I’m sorry, I just can’t help it. You see, I LOVED Strung Up to pieces. This was obviously an AMAZING read for me!!

The story line had my emotions all over the place. I was first sad by the events that took place, then I was hopeful. I felt for these two sexy Cowboys, they needed each other more than they ever knew. Then I was horrified by what Break had went through which turned into anger!

I LOVED both Cres and Breck. The chemistry they shared was undeniable. The sex/love scenes were SO DAM SEXY! Each encounter got HOTTER and HOTTER! Especially they last scene, it took my breath away.

The last emotion I had as the story came to its conclusion was JOY! I was SO DAM HAPPY FOR THEM, I had tears of joy.

Special note: This is a M/M romance with SUPER HOT cowboys having SUPER HOT sex. This is a short read and I feel you can read it as a standalone.

4 'Farmboys' Stars!

These last days I have met the lovely Grant family portrayed in Lorelei's Blacktop Cowboys short stories. I loved Sutton, I loved Wyn and Cres was no exception! And let me tell you, this woman knows how to write a hot and emotional MM love story!

Cres is not at his best moment and Breck definitely helps him heal. These two have crazy chemistry together and I really enjoyed reading how they fall in love! Again, I missed having an epilogue but everything else was amazing! Totally recommend Strung Up if you love some man on man action!

This is me being the minority. Don't mind me and my dissenting opinion, as I'm he only person who didn't like this book. I'll try to keep this short.

If this is the author's first foray in the genre, it shows. Because to me, Strung up is your typical heterofied, cliched MM.

Honestly, one of the MCs, Breck (and btw what kind of names are Breck and Cres?), is the most obnoxious character ever! Coming out unwillingly is a very sensitive subject, but I was so done with his fallen rodeo superstar attitude.

He was cocky (the bad kind), and his macho-bordering on offensive- bullshit grated on my nerves. Like:

"Then I thrust in deep, fucking his mouth with fast, confident strokes so he understood that while I had no issue with him fucking me, I’d never be a fucking bottom."

Hey, Breck...

And when Cres confides in him about not having any other lovers since his partner died, he is treating it like a mature, understanding adult instead of being a sleazebag:
“I haven’t been with anyone since Mick,” he blurted out. “That’s the other reason I ran out. I wasn’t sure how far I could go.”

“Guess we’ll see if I can convince you to go all the way with me.” I grinned. “It wasn’t too difficult that week you came to Denver…I had your cock in my mouth within two hours of us meeting. I had you bent over with my cock in your ass that same night.”

As for Cres....I loved his voice in the prologue, but in the end...how disappointing. Lets shit on the dead guy's grave, shall we? Because apparently he didn't satisfy him enough in bed, so Cres had to settle with him. It was unecessary and uncalled for. Ms James went out of her way to make sure that Breck is so much better than the dead partner.

Anyway, I'll stop here. Obviously I didn't like this at all. 1.5 stars rounded up because the writing was ok.

Yeah…this was SO GOOD! Holy cow. Lorelei James…THANK YOU for writing Cres and Breck. Thanks for writing cowboys loving cowboys. Thanks for writing a novella that felt FULL and COMPLETE and so SATISFYING. Thanks for writing a SCORCHING HOT book that didn’t forego HEART and real EMOTIONS.

With so much being said about what is and isn’t being written in romance today, it’s so nice to find a book that’s just…a romance. A straight up relationship between two complicated men who are given a second chance with each other. A beautiful discovery between two solid, mature men who are ready this time in their lives for one another.

The author had me in tears within the first 10% of the story. I wasn’t ready to have my heart thrown in from the get go as we’re introduced to Cres and the accident that tore his life to pieces. Two years later, we find Cres again, healing, and surprising even himself to be ready to love again.

And that’s all because of Breck. Breck has been through his own nightmare…and once he wakes up, finds his life stolen from him. But this allows him to question if it was the life he really wanted in the first place.

Cres and Breck are so great together. The chemistry is SO HOT and their fuck-buddies-to-lovers story had a few twists and turns that made it impossible to put my kindle down. I miss them already! (I would LOVE to read more of them…just sayin’…)

What's to Like:
This is my first Lorelei James book and I’m obsessed with her writing. I want to read every one of her backlist…if she can tell this great a story in a novella, I’m sure to be gobsmacked by her longer novels! There are also a lot of side characters that I’m guessing (?) already have books or will be having books in the future. and I’m excited to read more in this series.

What's to Love:
Dude…COWBOYS. HOT COWBOYS. HOT COWBOY LOVIN’. The build up, the dialogue, the back story, the tension…and the HOT COWBOY LOVIN’…all so good.

Beware of:
I had one little *this makes me uncomfortable* moment where Cres complains about his past lover only wanting to bottom. Something about the way it was said didn’t really work for me. BUT…I didn’t want to look too deeply at it, to be honest. It didn’t bother me enough to steer me off course with my love for this book.

This Book is For:
I’m not sure if this is Lorelei James’ first foreay into m/m, but she killed it! So good. I think anyone who likes stories about cowboys, this is for you. Fans of Lorelei James, this is for you. Those who want a spicy, yet heartfelt m/m romance, this is for you. So really…everyone should just read this.

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

I have been waiting years, YEARS I say, for a full out gay (M/M) cowboy romance from Lorelei James and she delivers BIG TIME with Strung Up! Leave it to this author to take a character I really didn't like much from previous Blacktop Cowboy books and not only make me like him, but make me feel proud for the way he has turned his life around, then she pairs him with a sweet, sexy rancher whose life has been turned upside down and gives us one provocative and intriguing story.

Two years ago rancher Creston "Cres" Grant lost his partner and the man he figured he'd spend the rest of his life with, but life goes on although Cres has pretty much done nothing but work and try and make it through each day. While attending a party celebrating the opening of his sister-in-law's family's rodeo school he runs into Breck Christianson whom he had a fling with several years ago.

The fact that Cres and Breck had some history made it easy for these two men to pick up right where they left off for the most part. I admired Breck for coming clean almost immediately about what had led him down a difficult path and the incidents that changed his life forever and while Cres was slower to share, he didn't hide his previous relationship and was pretty open about what he was feeling. The need, the want, and the passion between them came alive with Ms. James words, but more than that the reader can see these two falling in love with their actions and with their internal thoughts. For two rough and tumble guys, they were pretty good at romance and not afraid to show it even in public which I personally loved.

While they had a few moments of insecurity and some where better communication would have been nice (but you know...two men so what do you expect), overall their relationship was pretty even keel and low on drama and for that I am thankful.

Once again author Lorelei James has offered readers a superbly written story with charming characters, filled with emotion, yet every bit as sexy as her readers expect and she has jumped right into the gay romance genre with a 5 star winner!

Creston Grant has withdrawn himself from family and friends for two years after the love of his life was killed in an accident. His family has given him the space he's needed to grieve but enough is enough. When his brother drags him to a social event he runs into an old flame, who by the end of the night has caused a spark. Something Cres never thought he'd have or feel again.

Breck has experienced the lowest point in his life. He's no longer rodeoing and is in town for 9 weeks as an instructor at the new rodeo school. Once he and Cres run into each other everything starts to change for him. As their relationship starts to grow, things start to fall into place which gives him hope and whole new outlook on life.

This is a short novella but WOW at the level of emotions the author was able to wring out of me. What I was expecting was a light-hearted, funny, super hot romp of a story, but what I got was that and so so so much more. I'm a fan and enjoy all of Lorelei James' books but never thought I'd be so invested in these characters. I certainly never expected to cry. I loved this story and these characters so much, I didn't want it to end. I was totally enchanted by these tough, sweet men who had so much passion for one another. There were times I thought my Kindle would combust. I don't normally read Male/Male romances, but while I was reading, the male/male part never crossed my mind. It was two people who were fighting their way back from hard times and difficult situations, and finding love, companionship, acceptance and a place in life where they could be happy and whole again. It was beautiful and everything I'm hoping for when I sit down to read a romance

The 1001 Dark Nights project is meant for each book to stand on its own even if the characters are tied to a series, in order to help authors bring on new fans. So, if you've never read a Lorelei James book, now is your chance to give her a try. Since I've read and loved the other books in the series, I can recommend you start with the first book in the Blacktop Cowboys (CORRALLED) and read them all.

Oh Hells Ya, an MM book!

Cres and Break are smoken freaking HOT, this book is a scorcher!

Cres is having a hard time moving on and Break has a lot he has been dealing with alone. These two are exactly right for each other at this point in their lives.

I really enjoyed getting to know both men and you can’t help but feel so much for them. All they want to do is be who they are without judgment.

This story really opens your eyes to the fact that being Gay and being a Rancher/Cowboy just isn’t accepted and that is so very sad. Why should it matter what your career is? Or who you come home to? Utter sadness I hate that it's still this way in the 20th century.

I have to say I was surprised we didn’t have a male narrate the book but you know what I don’t care because like I said before Scarlet's male voice is delicious!

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Eh, this was okay and cute but I was bored.

In Strung Up you will meet Cres and Breck. Again, they were cute and it was somewhat adorable (but mostly eye roll worthy for me) that they kept wanting more from one another. I could only handle so much from these two and at one point, I passed my quota.

Of course, these two were made for one another. It doesn't take them long to figure it out either - which was a plus for me and this book. These two found love, happiness, and a forever with each other and it sort of made me happy. Mostly tired but still happy.

Wow. Lorelei is amazing. This book is m/m but it's all about the love & romance, ok and 2 hot cowboys. I love getting sneak peaks at the rest of the family. I've read their stories, but their life continued on. It's good to know what is happening when them now. With that said, this novella totally stands alone. It's amazing how so much can be packed into a novella!

Lorelei James brings two characters together that have dealt with big blows from life. Cres loved his partner who died a few years ago after a freak accident and he hasn't been the same since. And Brock had his own issues to deal with that have made him a changed man. The one thing that hasn't changed for both of them was that attraction that once brought them together in a hot physical fling.

STRUNG UP was surprisingly quite drama free for characters that have gone through so much. I was very happy to see that the author didn't drag this story down with angst as it could've easily been. What this novella is packed with is plenty of chemistry! Cres and Breck have that in spades. In and out of the bedroom (or against a wall).
Novellas are always hard because you have to pack so much connection into such a short amount of pages and this one worked very well for me! There is the fact that these two had a connection from before that they just had to rekindle after shelving it for years. That always makes it easier for me to believe in the outcome. But the truth is these guys are two different people than they were back then, and I loved that it means they are now ready for a relationship and being together as two better versions of themselves.

The story has plenty of emotional moments as we find out more of what Breck has been through and as he deals with changing what he thought he wanted out of life. It was nice to see the support from family that Cres always had through his own difficult times. And that constant support system makes this book have that classic feel of family and unity that I love about Ms. James stories. That along with the true western feel of life will surely draw you in and keep you turning the pages.

I would've loved to see a little more communication, and there was one thing about how Cres feels about his dead ex towards the end that I didn't necessarily like as I felt it diminished that part of his life where it wasn't necessary. But other than that, this was such an enjoyable story and I can't' wait to go back in to this world!

My rating...5 Stars!!...to "Strung Up" Blacktop Cowboys, #7.5 by author Lorelei James....
I loved this addition to the Blacktop Cowboys series! And luckily, Lorelei keeps them "coming"...no pun intended.....:)

For a short story this packs an emotional much. Although Lorelei has had some MM "lovin" in past novels, (Rough Riders series) this is her first MM only (that I'm aware of). I know there are some readers that are not into the male on male action. Truthfully when I read my first MM I hesitated not sure I would like it. Well almost every one I have read so far I loved, so I am definitely a fan of that genre. To me...romance is romance AND love is love!

"Strung Up had a bit of a dark edge to it. No, there was no suspense. Yes, there is a bit of angst. But the darkness in this story stems from the heartbreaking and horrific events of Cres and Breck's pasts. Each experienced their own personal, emotional pain.

Preston Grant is a rancher. After he loses his first love he retreats into himself separating himself from from everyone and everything. After nearly two years of living this way, Cres's older brother forced him out to an event with the rest of the family. It is here he runs into a man he had a week-long hook-up with.

Breck Christianson was formerly a cocky, arrogant, a**hole. He was a player, that used women to hide his true sexual nature. Breck was a rodeo champion. Being gay or even bisexual was not a little frowned upon; to that community, it was the worst sin. It broke my heart what happened when Breck was exposed. There was no going back to rodeoing from that disaster. Even more heartbreaking was the fact that he couldn't even seek support from the people who should love him unconditionally. I was really pissed off at that moment in the book. I mean f***ing pissed!!!

Breck and Cres slowly and hesitantly reconnect with each other. Yes, the chemistry between them was lava-liscious (yeah, I made that word up) from the beginning. However they each had their own private fears and worries about letting their hearts get involved. I will say that I absolutely loved this novella! I fell in love with both of these men equally. When they found their HEA, I closed my eyes and literally let the emotions I was feeling out. I cried briefly, happy and relieved tears. I am totally serious!

This book is going on my "favorites" list as well as "book boyfriends." I don't care that they are gay: they are in my heart! Like I said...love is love...!!!

Smoking Sexy Gay Cowboys! Dayum! Loved everything about this story. The fear that comes with coming out to the passion both from sneaking around and from falling in love. Excellent!
My only note would be that the Title refers to a particularly awful thing that happened to Breck. (very reminiscent of Matthew Shepherd btw) Not a sexy title once I'd read the story.

I have a plethora of Lorelei James’ books on my kindle, but I’ve never read one of them…life, commitments, ARCs - all of the above - have kept James’ books off my radar. So when I saw the chance to read a novella - a M/M novella (one of my favorite genres) - I knew I needed to dive into James’ cowboy world, and I’m SO glad I did!

The Cres Grant and Breck Christianson of four years ago burned up the sheets but then went their separate ways because their lives, their personalities, and their lifestyles couldn’t have been more different. Now, though, after individually hitting rock bottom due to grief, revelations, and a few kicks in the ass, they find themselves given another opportunity to surrender their bodies to one another without boundaries, without limits, and without feelings - at least that’s how their sexual dalliances begin, but when everything is said and done, Cres and Breck will either be strung out on each other or strung up with the realization that it was always more than sex between them.

Cres and Breck’s story may be a short one, but it definitely packs a lot of emotion, steam, and life’s lessons between its pages. Cres and Breck both have quite a bit to work through on their own, which is further complicated by how much they come alive, not only in the bedroom, but also just by being around each other. But anything worth having is worth fighting for, even if that means getting down and dirty, pushing one another to trust in their feelings and surrender to what they truly want from their relationship.

Now that I’ve experienced Lorelei James’ writing and the cowboy world she created, I’m ready for more…more alpha ranchers…more smexy scenes…more rough riding;)

3.75 stars-

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 13, 2016

Rancher Creston Grant retreats from the world after he loses the love of his life... Can his former flame, rodeo cowboy Breck Christianson prove he's a changed man who can give Cres a second chance at love?

•••••••••

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--STRUNG UP by Lorelei James is the latest novella in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series, and #7.5 in the author’s contemporary, adult BLACKTOP COWBOYS erotic, romance series focusing on rancher Creston Grant, and former rodeo cowboy Breck Christianson. STRUNG UP can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Some of the characters from previous installments in the Blacktop Cowboys series play secondary and supporting roles.

NOTE: STRUNG UP is a M/M story line with sexually graphic scenes of same sex encounters.

Told from dual first person points of view (Cres and Breck) STRUNG UP looks at the second chance relationship between rancher Cres Grant and rodeo cowboy Breck Christianson. Two years earlier Creston Grant lost the love of his life to a roadside accident and in the ensuing time has kept to himself pushing away family and friends. Fast forward to present day our hero is invited to the grand opening of Grade A Farms rodeo school arena he meets up with an old flame Breck Christianson and the attraction is immediate. What ensues is the rekindling of a friendship, romance and relationship between two men whose experiences as part of the LGBTQ community has been polar opposites. Breck has suffered numerous atrocities at the hands of fellow rodeo riders, and has been ostracized by family and friends. His career on the rodeo circuit has all but been destroyed because of his sexual orientation. Cres has been accepted for the man that he has become.

The rekindling of the relationship between Cres and Breck is quick to develop but Breck’s time working for the Grade A Farms has an expiry date-one that will force another separation between our leading couple, and an expiration that both are struggling to ignore. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense. The sexual tension is high; the energy level is off the charts.

STRUNG UP brings together many of the previous story line characters, updating the reader about their lives and families. We witness the ongoing loving family dynamics, as well as the cautionary emotions towards Cres’s new love. The premise is entertaining; the characters are broken but slowly healing with one another; the romance is hot and heavy. STRUNG UP is an emotional read with issues of sexual discrimination, grief and acceptance.

Not sure why I am always floored by another marvelous story by Lorelei James. Strung Up was incredible from beginning to end. The chemistry between Breck and Cres hit every mark from sweet to funny to heart-touching to off-the-charts-sizzling-hot. This novella is a must read every fan of cowboys and m/m romance.

The residual connection from four years earlier sparked back to life and exploded into a deep love that Cres and Breck will carry with them through what we hope to be future editions of the Grant family. Miss James' talent for grabbing the attention of her audience and leaving them forever changed in ever-changing ways is what makes her an author who shouldn't be missed.

Strung Up is M/M cowboy romance done right. Finally!

James give us two amazing men in a romantic, healthy love story. Breck and Cres are both stereotypical macho men living the western lifestyle. Ranching, farming and rodeo are still not welcoming to gay men and they’ve had a lot to deal with. They’ve each come a long way emotionally in the intervening years since their first brief hook up. Life’s hard lessons have matured them making this the right time to rekindle a smoking hot sex life and see if there’s more to it than lust.

It’s not all easy, of course. Neither man is thinking “happily ever after” initially and make statements to that effect. When their feelings change they’re both afraid to say anything in case the other doesn’t share the sentiment. Then there are a few misinterpreted actions. You know, typical relationship drama. It’s especially fun to watch these two big, tough men have the same insecurities everyone else does. Both are also capable of being very romantic and thoughtful which made them even more endearing to me.

The large cast of supporting characters add color and fun. They also help knock sense into both men when needed.

James delivers yet another poignant, touching love story with fascinating, likeable characters and plenty of smoking hot sex. James, as always, gives us thoroughly realistic modern western culture too. I only wish it was a full length novel because I’d have loved to see more of what the future holds for Breck and Cres.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

Strung Up is a really enjoyable cowboy romance with lots of hot steamy scenes and some really nicely developed characters. It is a fairly short novel, but James manages to create some interesting back stories for these guys and even in a short number of pages, they are both given a lot of depth. Each man has had tragedy in his past that left him avoiding future relationships, but the spark that was there years before between them is still there. And wow, what a spark! These guys are super hot together and the connection and chemistry between them is great. James manages to get the balance just right between depth to the characters and also lots of heat and intensity.

This isn’t a really plot heavy book. It mostly focuses on the guys reconnecting and their growing relationship. The conflict comes with the fact that both men want more and for things to continue between them, but both assume the other isn’t looking for anything more serious. So we do get the misunderstanding conflict towards the end that could have easily been resolved with some talking, but this doesn’t drag on long and the pacing of the book helps keep thing moving.

Once again, Lorelei James brings us a story of two well-developed, believable characters. Characters who you wish you could know in real life.

Both Cres and Breck have been through some difficult and challenging experiences since they last saw each other. Neither are looking for a happily-ever-after, but sometimes love finds you when you least expect it.

Cres has always had the support of his family so after two years of mourning his boyfriend’s death by totally withdrawing from life, his brothers step up and almost force him to attend an event at the rodeo school run by his sister-in-law’s parents. He has no idea that Breck, someone he had a fling with years ago, is now working at the school.

Breck has dealt with his own troubles after he was outed by a disgruntled lover, ostracized by the rodeo community, then subsequently beaten by some he’d considered friends.

I only wish is that Ms. James had been able to give us a longer story. Hopefully these two will show up in future installments of her BLACKTOP COWBOYS series.

Finally! It seems like I've been waiting forever for Lorelei James to write a m/m romance. I knew from characters in a previous novel, that she definitely had it in her. STRUNG UP, a novella in the 1001 Dark Nights series, went beyond my expectations--and my expectations were pretty high. Ms. James perfectly captured the emotions of both Cres and Breck, their insecurities and fears, their desire to be loved and accepted--you know, pretty much like everyone else on the planet. Brock's story broke my heart, and made me that much happier that he had a man as sweet and caring as Cres, as well as a newfound support system. I thought Strung Uo was very romantic. Not hokey or sickening sweet, but romantic in the sense of two people getting to know each other, discovering new facets of themselves, and falling in love. The emotional connection between the two men was palpable right from the start. I was charmed and captivated by these two sexy cowboys. I'm tempted to say I wish the book had been longer, but I think it was just right.

W O W! Lorelei knows how to pack a punch in a short story!!! Cres and Breck literally blew me away...no pun intended. With each book I read from LJ, I am more amazed by her skill. The way she can pull you, as a reader, into her stories and make you feel like you're going through the story with them is truly amazing. I have YET to come across one of her books that I have not loved, no matter which series it is!

The story of two broken cowboys won out my heart. Cres loses what he thinks, is the love of his life and finds it hard to get back to "normal". After two years of sulking around, his family steps in and forces him to come back to the land of the living. They make him go to a party where he meets a former lover, Breck. Sparks fly and it's amazing to see how these two men try to learn to love and trust again.

If you think that a MM romance is not for you, you just have not read the right one. LJ wrote this story tastefully and respectfully. When you read the word "Ours" at the end, it will definitely bring tears to your eyes.

Strung Up- A Blacktop Cowboys Novella by Lorelei James is part of The 1001 Dark Nights series.
Creston-Cres Grant lost his lover Michael-Mick Darby a car accident. He is deep in mourning.
2 years later at a get-together he meets Breck Christianson a cocky former rodeo champion.
Breck was a hook up from Cres years ago and they spend a week together.
Now Breck has scars both physically and mentally.
Both men agree to have a 9 week non-relationship with lots of sex. But can they ??
OMG. This novella is sizzling HOT steamy and sexy. I was in tears from page 1 and I will never hear "Let it be" from The Beatles without crying.

Favorite quote: " I believe that love is stronger than death. That had become my mantra, my focal point..." and "I felt I need to wear him today ."
Thank you Lorelei James and 5 beautiful stars !!!

OMG, Hot, Hot, Hot! This novella is a great addition to the the 1001 Dark Night Series and to Lorelei James's Blacktop Cowboys series. This story is so perfectly written. I really enjoyed getting to know Creston Grant and Breck Christianson on a more personal level. Since I have rad all the Blacktop Cowboys books I have gotten a few glimpses of these to characters. But don't worry if you are new to the series you won't feel left out. This book can easily stand on its own.

I wasn't sure how I was going to like this book. I have read all of Lorelei's books and they each have been as good or better than the last one. I was thoroughly surprised on how enjoyable this book was. I liked the emotional honesty that both Cres and Breck showed, whether out loud or in thought. I am so glad that I read it and would encourage anyone on the fence to go for it, you won't be disappointed.

"Aren't we all screwed up about something?"
Strung Up was my first read from Lorelei James and I really enjoyed it. The writing flowed smoothly also this second chance story captured me wholly. I liked the main couple's amazing connection though the plot was a bit faster than I expected. Don't get me wrong it was entertaining, heartwarming and steamy as hell romance I just could've read about it longer than this was.

Every time I read another book, I fall deeper in love with LJ's characters. Cres, a rancher in mourning for this lover that died in a freak accident & Breck, a former champion rodeo star who was black-balled from the tour & his family farm because of his sexual orientation, finally find each other in the right place to complete their lives.

Finding Love again seems impossible when you are still grieving. Is it possible to find love when everyone turned their back to you.....Breck doesn't want to feel alone anymore, Cres doesn't think about moving on, his grief is to strong. Only together can heal. Only together can they find love and love again.

Lorelei is always a 5 star for me.
Her ability to research topics and give the character their own thoughts and feelings just gives you a book that is real. You want to hug and love these two the whole way through. Such growth and emotion packed in one novella ♡
