I was going through a particularly difficult time and desperately needed something to help lift up my heavy heart. Years ago my Mom let me borrow this book. (Obviously I'm on the "extended-borrower" plan because it is still sitting on my bookshelf. Thanks, Mom!) I pulled it off the shelf and quickly lost myself reading about Art Berg, his life and advice. From page one to when I finally replaced the book on my shelf, I feel so much better.

Art Berg hasn't had an easy life, but he has made the best out of what life has given him. In his early twenties he was in a terrible car accident that left him quadriplegic. He doesn't sugar coat things and make it seem like he had a positive outlook on things from the very beginning. He struggled, felt sad, even depressed, but with the help of faith and much support from his family, he was able to take a life-altering experience and use it for good.

Some self-help books feel preachy or are full of glib one-liners engineered to be quotable but offer little as far as truly helping you to change. "Look out for positiveness and you will have a positive outlook." Bleh. Art gives ten "anchors"--ten things you can actively do to help find peace when in troubled waters.

One example (and probably my favorite) was about having a sense of humor. Laughter. As we grow we tend to take ourselves too seriously. We value solemnity more than lightheartedness. However, laughter has a positive physiological effect. It just makes you feel better!

Within his advice Art offers experiences from his own life that help to show that he intimately understands what it's like to feel down and hopeless; however, he has taught himself how to remain grateful to God, look for the good even in bad situations, and enjoy life for what it is: a time of physical and spiritual growth and improvement.

This book was an answer to prayer. Anyone who is struggling against feelings of despair, injustice, hurt, illness--do yourself a favor and find a copy of this book. You'll be glad you did.

I love this book. It's a true story of a man who became a quadriplegic and the things that help carry them through the hard times of life. He gives very sound advice that's actually backed up by research, but it's also a spiritual book. It's a super light read, great stories, and he has some profound truth. I was really impressed with the book

Read this in just a couple of hours. I found in this book what others I have read lately seem to be lacking: personal experience with challenge and tragedy. That has made a huge difference. I can really respect advice from someone who has had practical experience with extreme difficulty. Somehow it has much more validity! Excellent and uplifting book!
