Wilder Ten years ago, Logan left me. He told me that two Alphas cannot be together, he told me that our mating wasn’t real. Yesterday, my sister called me and told me that Logan passed away, leaving behind an Omega and a child. Today, I’m at Logan’s funeral. Why am I offering to look after his little family?
Sterling Logan and I had everything we wanted: a house, a beautiful daughter and lots of big dreams. Then he was ripped away from us in a car crash. His family is too busy to help me out after the funeral, so one of Logan’s old friends steps in. Only, in all the commotion, I didn’t keep an eye on the calendar, and my heat starts at the most inconvenient of times. And why is Logan’s friend reacting to my heat? Only true mates are supposed to react to a mated Omega...
This is the first episode of Second Chance Mates, which takes place in a non-shifter Omegaverse world and contains mpreg (male-pregnancy).
So, by saying this is the first "episode" of Second Chance Mates...I should have understood that to mean this is actually a serial, this is part one, and it ends with a TO BE CONTINUED.
I am NOT happy.
I was finally getting into the story when it abruptly ends in the TBC cliffhanger.
Well this might have been decent if the story didn't cut off in the middle. I get part one, but I expected a complete story not a cliffhanger that wasn't even a cliffhanger, just an abrupt end that said if you want to read more.... WTF! You gave me a sample and made me pay for it.
The author can be assured I'll be keeping my money in my pocket.
Logan's family have always been a mess so far into themselves they miss everything else. When things change with his passing, his Omega Sterling and their daughter Maddie struggle. But just because he came to the funeral of Logan, his first mate, it does not mean that Wilder wants to help. But how can he not help? What is happening with his feelings as they all struggle to work through life now that everything has changed?
I'm intrigued enough to continue to the next one...which, FYI, means the series is actually more of a serial since it ends in such a way that in no way wraps up any part of the story - and there appears to be 8 of them.
Also, I had to create an ABO shelf for the Omega-verse type stories with humans, or MCs that don't actually shift.
This is a sweet, well written little composition which is the first in the Second Chance Mates series. When I read the descriptive blurb, I couldn’t wait to read the book. I have come to like Omegaverse stories and the idea of a secondary true mating peaked my interest. So why only 2 stars? The blurb and the book are one in the same. The book has a few more words, and explores the grief of the main characters, but after reading it I don’t know any more than when I started. What little there is was well written but I would have preferred the author hold off publication until there was more story beyond the introduction.
I accepted a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Fair warning. This looks like it will be coming out in chapters. Not sure if I'm willing to deal with that. Also, it's told in present tense, which isn't my favorite.
I have no idea why, but I got the craziest déjà vu while reading this! I grabbed it on Stuff Your Kindle Day, and it’s a short, quick novella that I flew through. I’ll definitely be continuing the series—I really liked the characters, especially Wild!
The backstory is still a bit of a mystery, but there’s just enough to make the tension between the characters make sense. Plus, the world-building is super easy to follow, which made it that much easier to enjoy.
Even though others have said it, I'll warn people here that this is a serial type of story, so it does end on a cliffhanger and with most plot lines unfinished. I'm not a huge fan of these types of stories as things just abruptly end just when they're getting good!
I enjoyed how this story started out, I like the characters and am interested in how things will play out. I will most likely continue reading this series!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was pleasantly surprised with this heartwrenching novella.. This is the first I've read of this author's works and felt it was extremely good:. The only thing I didn't like was it came to an abrupt cliffhanger. I knew it was the first of the series but I wanted so much more. This was an amazing beginning of an Alpha who a decade before had mated with another Alpha only to lose him to an Omega. Present day, that Alpha comes back to the funeral of his ex and meets the Omega and his daughter!!! The Omega had no idea who the Alpha was, but the Alpha had agreed to look out for the ones who were left behind..Staying at their home, his attraction goes on high alert especially when the Omega goes into heat. The Alpha had been claimed and mated by his ex years before now he is finding that attraction strong with the Omega who had also been claimed and mated with!!! Is there a connection?? I sure hope so....I guess we'll find out❤️
This was quite sad and emotional but really intriguing. Unfortunately I won't be continuing this series because there's 7 more short instalments and I'm on a budget. Pity it's not on KU.
This was a short quick read that I wanted more of. Wilder gets a call from his sister telling him that his mate Logan has died. Logan left Wilder ten years earlier both of them are Alpha's and can't have kids. At the services he meets Logan's mate Sterling and his daughter Maddie. I really liked this book and wanted more of it. Both of them are grieving the lost of their mate Logan's family didn't like Wilder and although it wasn't said I didn't think they liked Sterling either. When Sterling goes into heat they have sex and are both upset about it. This was my first time reading this author this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Rating: 2 stars Thank goodness I only paid 99cents for this book. I wasn't impressed with the writing. It badly needed an editor. Add the fact that it ends in a cliff hanger and I can't say that I recommend this book at all.
If you are thinking of reading it, I would wait until the whole series is out.
This is the first "book" of several... this is more like the first few chapters of a book... Just when you are starting to really get into the two characters, you are at the "end" of this book and need the next one to continue... I might eventually get the next book or books in this series, but not at this time... just because I hate not knowing the ending and this is far from a middle or an end on this one.
This is another story in the past couple of months that I have read that deals with alphas, omegas, and mpreg, and yet, none of these characters are shifters. I believe the description is "omegaverse". I'm finding it interesting, although it definitely doesn't grasp my attention the way paranormal, mpreg stories do. However, I do enjoy different, and this new-to-me genre is certainly that.
The fact that it's been ten years since Logan walked away from Wilder, regardless that Wilder carries Logan's mating mark, doesn't lessen Wilder's pain when he finds out that Logan has been killed in an accident. Coming to the funeral is hard, especially as Wilder can't let Logan's parents see him, but coming face-to-face with Sterling and Maddy, Logan's omega and their daughter, is the hardest part of all. Because Wilder knows exactly the kind of parents Logan's are, he agrees to stay for a week with Sterling and Maddy, so they don't have to be alone.
Sterling isn't surprised by Logan's parents, not at all. Logan despised their attitudes regarding needing an alpha heir to leave the family business to, and since Sterling hasn't produced one, yet, they think even less of him than they always have. Sterling doesn't know who this "friend" of Logan's is and he's confused by why this man would be willing to help him and Maddy, when Logan's parents can't be bothered. It doesn't matter. Sterling is facing loneliness and he figures having some help for a week will be nice.
“I’m so confused. It hurts so much. Not just him being really gone, like really really. But why did he tell me he had to move on, and then he lives in the house that we wanted together? How can he live in my house with a mate who isn’t me?” My breath shudders, my chest aching...... I don’t care that I’m an Alpha, this was supposed to be my life, this is what Logan and I planned for all those years ago, and now… Why did he leave?"
In this world, mating bite marks only remain visible if it's your true mate, and an alpha can only have a child with their true mate. So, how come Wilder still has his mating mark, but Logan was able to mate with Sterling and have Maddy? Even weirder is when Sterling goes into heat, Wilder takes care of him, ends up mating him, and somehow Wilder is just as affected by his heat almost as if Sterling is his true mate.
A lot of questions the author raised in this first book to the series. Overall, I very much enjoyed the worldbuilding. I had some difficulty with quite a few editing errors and hope to not see those repeated in the next installment. I was certainly intrigued enough by the plot to continue reading further in the series.
I like the concept of this story. Sterling and Wilder are rather one dimensional right now, and we only get the most basic rules for how this particular omegaverse works. This doesn’t seem to be a scent match verse, but it does have fated or ‘true’ mates.
I’m very curious to find out more about Wilder and his relationship with Logan. It would be interesting to see if there were aspects of his relationship that mirror what Logan had with Sterling. Also, I am excited to learn how the thing that happened at the end of this part is even possible based on the world rules.
This sounds good, and I am enjoying the start of the story, although I can’t see how Star will forgive Wild for lying without it being instant forgiveness. The reason for the low star rating is because it’s sold as a story but it not, it the beginning of a story, there is no ending, just to TBC. This is one of my pet hates, it’s not even the end of a partial story line, it finishes mid scene.
The book was pretty good until I got to 81% and found out it's a pay by the chapter scam. Why do authors think we want that?! Either write a book or don't. Tell people what they are getting in the description. I am not paying $2.99 to read more in seven more parts. That is a rip off!
I got the book for free cause of the Christmas Give Away.
I knew beforehand that it was a novella, that's totally fine with me.
The story was interisting and I liked the characters. You could imagine how they felt and I really liked the way Wilder was interacting with the little daughter of Sterling and his late mate.
But, a very big but, it finished with an absolutely unexpected cliffhanger. Normally I don't unlike cliffhangers but I honestly don't understand how the author could end the story so abruptly with no warning or anything. It just stopped in the middle with a "to be continued". Not cool.
And my Kindle stopped at about 80%.
Really the idea is great, only these novella style with that abrupt cliffhanger isn't. Don't know why the author decided to publish so many novellas instead of one or two full books. Won't buy the next part of the serie to avoid further disappointment (and in my opinion thats a shame cause the story is great.)
So, here’s the thing, this was really good. Like the story was so interesting and felt unlike a “typical” omegaverse novel, and I just really really loved it. BUT I actually feel like 3 stars is almost too high of a rating. This is actually just part 1 of a serial, and I actually have no problem with serials, so long as they page count justifies the price. That is most definitely not the case here. At the end of this for somewhere between 500-600 pages total, you’re going to end up having paid over twenty dollars!! For one story. I am one hundred percent for authors being paid more, I think for some reason writing is valued at less than other arts. But this is a robbery. As much as I loved the story and really want to continue, I just can’t. I’m leaving the rating at 3 stars though, because it was so good, and maybe others won’t mind paying so much for one story.
The premise of the book caught my interest and I was eager to learn what would happened between Wilder and Sterling. I wasn't expected to feel so much. My emotions were all over the place and I got teary eye at some heart-breaking moments. I was pulled into their story and I cannot wait to see how the story would continue. An excellent start to a new series!
Such a profound story. It is amazing how one person can have such a huge impact on another's life. This story combines the best of trying to console someone's grief by consoling others and the brightness of a new life in the making. The writing style is excellent and easy to read while the pace flows along nicely. Each of the characters is well developed and believable rather than larger than life. We can empathize and sympathize with both sides of this situation. I have not had the dubious pleasure of in-laws like that but I know people who have. Of course, everyone grieves in their own way. It is to be hoped that the in-laws can change. I very much enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the sequel.
I got this book after reading the first 3 in the Making a Family Series that these characters also appear in. So far in this series, I am just not a Wilder fan, an Alpha who thinks he mated with another Alpha who left him and mated and Omega and has a child. He shows up at the funeral and insinuates himself in Sterling and Maddy's life. He is too busy worried about himself and his perceived connection with the recently deceased Logan to see that he is being childish and wrong. Luckily Wilder seems like a good guy in the Making a Family Series so I am hoping this series redeems him in the next book and he confesses the low that he is keeping from Sterling.
