The glorious Kingdom of Candrama has but one fatal flaw, and after a grave mistake of a loyal knight, this flaw is threatened to be revealed in full force. Under the banner of the Mistletain family the kingdom has flourished gracefully and the solidarity of its people cannot be understated. Swept beneath the rug, however, is a criminal underworld with deep-seated roots in the higher echelons of society. These clandestine groups have their fingers on the pulse of the capital city of Isle and, suddenly, a knight by the name of Sehren finds himself marked.
The bonds he once held dearest to him crumble around him, and Sehren is threatened to be swept beneath a tide of conspiracy and a storm of hatred. To add to his misfortune, he is linked to an ancient enemy of the people of Candrama, and the citizenry focuses their deep-seated animosity on him. He endures and finds a glimmer of hope in new companions, and amidst the turmoil he devises an escape for the safety of him and his wife. Just as things appear to be taking a turn for the better, tragedy lands upon Sehren’s shoulders. Suddenly he’s backed against a wall with a hard choice in front of Either succumb to the machinations of the insidious underworld of Isle, or cleave his way free of the webs that were woven around him.
Sehren had not been plagued by nightmares for some time, perhaps he should have taken their return as a prediction of ill-tidings. But instead he thought it to be nerves. That day he was to bring the crown prince into the Knights, but more importantly the price would become his squire. It was not a decision Sehren was pleased with, or a role he wished to undertake, but he would do his duty, and do so fairly. He had no idea that someone was counting on him doing just this in order to further their own ambitions. Sehren failed to expect such treachery and as a result his life is torn apart, all in the name of a greater scheme, but can the truth be heard when spoken by the lips of one thought to have committed the most heinous of crimes?
Well written with great character development and world building Tenebrous is an easy book to lose yourself in. I love a good fantasy, and the scene setting and plot execution of this book is done well. You feel yourself drawn to the characters, experiencing things from their perspective and wanting to know what fate has in store.
