The Elves are invading Galea. With evil growing in the southern lands they have come to put an end to it by any means necessary.
The forces of evil won't go down easily. Liam Ottani has learned many lessons since first logging into the crucible shard. Attacks must not go unanswered and one must strike where their enemy is weak.
With allies growing more unhinged and dangerous by the day and the mysteries of the universe deepening there are battles on all fronts and victory always comes at a cost.
It is rare to have a series that becomes 'better'.
Perhaps it's that I've had very mixed experiences of other authors in the LitRPG genre. I must say Gank took this series to a new level. Usually, a series explores the character's inner truth, develop their morality and explore ranges of such.
This... well, it moved beyond the confines of the books narrative to a literal ontological analysis of reality. (That's overstating it a bit.)
However when you start the series with a protagonist that apparently will - by luck or happenstance bed or attempt to bed everything... well, your expectations are not going to move beyond that familiar "God, I hope the author doesn't drag this past puerile and attempt eroticism."
Thankfully it did not. In fact, the often campy, witty, engagements are truly wonderful character interplay. Skyler does a great job with character dialog and voices. The trope-ishly bombastic characters face a true crucible, and show that the series name wasn't' just slapped on but reflects a considered and well executed plan of development.
I thought that Kong held the kingdom in LitRPG - and I must now acknowledge and seek out Skyler Grant's other works in other genres.
Three stars means that I've read and liked the book, but I am unlikely to read the book again in the future.
What did I like about the book? In this book there was a lot of reality hopping, I really like that. One of the more interesting worlds that they spent a little bit of time on was a dating sim world, I would have liked to have seen that expanded upon a little bit as it was a huge change of pace with what was going on in the rest of the story. I also liked how realities could be more real than other realities and that the characters were no overpowered but underpowered and the world was trying to give them a handicap to bring them up to the challenges that they would be facing.
What didn't I like about the book? Nothing really sticks out. Like the rest of the series it is decent but not great. A nice world to visit but not something I want to return too, also the books are a bit forgettable, a lot happens but not everything really matters. Like the dating sim, it was interesting but it didn't add nor did it detract from the story as I've read it so far. You can leave it in or remove it but in the greater sense of the story it was filler, fun filler but filler.
Well... that went off the rails O_O. I'm at a bit of a loss to review it, both because of spoilers and I just don't know how to accurately capture the kind of glorious mess of it all. I liked this book, a lot, easily the best of his series so far. This is potentially a 5 star book, but that will depend on where he does with it all in the next books, so 4 star for now.
I have a feeling my opinions of all the books are going to be heavily dependent on where the series as a whole is going and what the conclusion is rather than being on each book individually.
The Train Wreck Continues Liam continues to meet more ueber-powerful beings making him continually less the protagonist. But no one steps in to fill the void.
His actions matter less, and Walt and Ashley have also become quite mutable and unable to foil his characters faults.
And to top it all of, the very question of what reality is, multi-verse, and literal character fracturing have pretty much discarded any true sense of risk and reward from this story.
I like the directions this story is going...I like the scaling. I love cosmic bits...I loved how the characters grow and change. I loved the part where they looked into what was real and what was not...this series is just brilliant....brilliant and entertaining as heck.
A very quick read I think the quickest of the series so far but also the craziest with loads of different ideas thrown into the mix sometimes making it hard to follow but it stays being a fun read hence the rating. There are other better litrpg series out there possibly but the ones I would rank higher are only at their first or second instalment.
Better than the previous books as far as proofreading goes, but still needs a bit more of it. On the other hand, the story was better quality, and it no longer feels like the story is simply wandering around looking for a place to call its own. I like where this story is going now, so I hope the remaining books in the series continue this trend.
Really! How can you call something under 200 pages a book? Needs better editing and better details on just about everything. Thank God for kindle unlimited.
These books just keep getting better. I really liked this one. It went to some interesting places and added a lot to the story. The only issue I had with the book was the "dating game" part. It was interesting but it seemed to break up the flow of the story and went on for to long. It just seemed like something that would have been better suited as its own mini story.
