Dirty Whispers

Rate this book
I’m her worst sinful nightmare
She’s the kind of girl who has no business around a brute like me.
Nineteen. Beautiful. So fragile she could break from a hard stare.
She’s running from something—or someone.
I saved her, but now I’ll own her.

I’m a mob enforcer—I hurt people for a living, not go around saving girls.
But Emily was something else.

She was so young. So innocent.
The way her eyes would pull away when you look hard enough
--like she’s afraid she’ll break.

I had no business being around her, no business kissing her.
But once I had a taste, I couldn’t stop myself.

I’ll own her sweet curves.
Use her for my pleasure .
And leave her ruined for anyone else.

Dirty Whispers is a full-length, standalone romance novel with steamy hot sex, NO CHEATING, strong language, a happily every after ending and NO CLIFFHANGERS. Contains dark and disturbing themes, and over the top sexiness that may be uncomfortable for some readers.

I do spoilers so I don't forget shit.
This is your only warning.

This was better than the last Paula Cox book I read and it will probably be the last. Because the problem still stands, either the plot isn't deep or interesting enough, or the characterizations of the MCs are pretty cardboard. Or both.

Rating - 2.5 stars

Cover - Yes, please.

FMC - Not memorable. She is not a character I can empathize with, but that's just me. Her reactions were often random and not well explained.

MMC - Not memorable. His motivations weren't really believable. His pursuit of the FMC felt forced.

Plot - Lots of physical violence against FMC by her brother. If that's a trigger, please don't read. This was the main plot. It was a pretty good portrayal of how victims of familial abuse feel about their victimizers.

HEA - HFN at best. In the last chapter FMC struggles with whether she should move in with MMCs sister or keep living with MMC. They said their ILYs already. Makes me feel they'll split longterm. Especially when the choice for her to stay is because MMC makes a move on the FMC as she's trying to leave with a box in hand.
And, NO EPILOGUE.

Smut - No cheating or hint of it. Sexy times were kinda hot.

Great story. Some parts are very dark, but it was very good. Emily is a young girl that gets abused by her brother and Jude saves her. Jude is a part of the mob that is supposed to take him out. Emily defends her brother, but only because they are brother and sister. Emily and Jude end up falling in love and she realizes that what her brother did to her was not her fault and that blood is not the only thing that makes a family. To short

I liked the savior complex, story is well written, not going to attack the next part of the series. What's next

Dirty Whispers is a dark gritty story about Jude and Emily, Jude a hit man for the mafia and Emily a young woman who has been abused by her brother all her life. Jude saves Emily and they are instantly attracted to each other. These two were hot together. Will Jude be able to protect Emily from her brother and always keep her safe? This is a well written story full of emotional and intense moments and the twists kept me wondering what would happen next. The author did an incredible job with such a difficult topic of abuse. I can't wait to read the next Paula Cox book.

I am voluntarily reviewing an Advanced Reader Copy of this book*
A great book to add to your weekend reading list!! Jude and Emily are compelling, well written characters that have great chemistry together. The sibling abuse angle of the story was well done and Patrick was a pretty despicable person...but still Emily's brother. I liked this book a lot and I always know Paula Cox will deliver a great read!!

I had the privilege to read an ARC copy of Dirty Whispers by Paula Cox. Emily has had a terrible past, but it crashes into Jude's and they both fall hard and fast. But Emily's brother won't leave her alone and that's hard to Jude to handle. Jude is an enforcer for the mob and Patrick is a woman beating druggie who thinks Emily is his property. Emily finds out she is a strong woman and can speak her own mind. Being with Jude makes her stronger and it's now possible to stand up to Patrick and everyone else who has tried to smother her. All the while falling in love with Jude and he having to find out how to deal with a strong woman who has grabbed his heart and won't let go. He doesn't only have to protect her he can't let her go. Love is strong and wins out against evil.
