Rook is oblivious to the horrors that await him in Paratay. Dark secrets taint the packs of Brazil, centered around ancient customs designed to block the true mate bond. But fate has steered Rook to the land, and he is determined to answer its call. Hidden behind the Alpha's doors, Jasmine longs for freedom. Never did she anticipate the chance would come accompanied by the magnetic pull of her bonded mate. Together, they are stronger. A force able to challenge the evils lording over her pride. But will it be enough for Jasmine to break free from the chains of her past? Or will they be crushed under the violent reign of archaic traditions?
Mother to two teenage boys, 2 four legged babies, and wife to a loving army veteran who doesn't mind the extra voices in her head. Miranda grew up on a dairy farm in Illinois, but calls Portland, TN home now. She is an avid reader, coffee addict, wine lover, crafter, and beginning quilter. Though her true passion is in creating her own worlds, characters, and stories for her readers.
Blurb: Rook heads to South America and finds his hands full with bringing the Pride out of the dark ages that Tomas had kept it in for years under his malicious ruling. He reunites with a few old friends and discovers a dark and twisted world he never knew existed behind the closed doors of the Alpha’s house. With the help of old military buddy Jonah he guides the Pride onto the path of a happy and fruitful living. Fate has other plans when Rook is blindsided with the fact that his true mate had been kept in the clutches of the former Alpha. Locked behind doors and used as an object to be shared rather than respected and revered as all female shifters should be. Will he be able to cull the evil from the Pride and make it safe enough for Casey to lead without fear? Will he be able to help his mate heal from the hell she has been put through and coax her cat to come out and play?
I thoroughly enjoyed Rook by Miranda Lynn. Rook is the second book in the Black Mountain Series. While it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone...though you get so invested in these characters...going back to read book one is now on my to do list.
Rook has always held an enforcer/security type position in the ranks of his Pride. With a military background it only makes sense. Tasked with the Alphas wife and daughter he becomes close to them, protecting them til the very end. Fast forward...and he is now being tasked with cleaning up the Pride and getting it ready for the new Alpha. In the process he stumbles upon his life mate, but fate won't make it easy.
I loved Rook. He is the perfect take charge, patient and loving man. He was well very well written.
I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for more work by Miranda Lynn.
Rook knows Jasmine is his mate and he knows she is going to be difficult to get her to trust him. Jasmine has been abuse, she is emotionally scarred. Will love win? This is a well written paranormal romance with hunky shifters. It has an interesting story with interesting characters.
Wow, Loved, loved, loved the second book Rook and Jasmine story in this series, I just can't get enough of these characters. Their story just pulls you in and makes you root for their HEA! Can't wait to read the rest of this series, each one just keeps getting better and better!
Jasmine has so much to overcome. Rook has gone to get the Pride ready for Casey. This Pride has to overcome the abuse from the old Alpha. Room has to make sure they will accept Casey as their new one. Lots of detail, lots of hunky shifters. Loved the story. From a Fan... Pam James.
When I read Rook I was completely blown away. The way the words flowed through each page had me wanting more. Rook is sent to clean up Tomas's South American pack. What he sees in shambles. Once he meets Jasmine Rooks world is turned upside down. His tiger has found it's mate but will Jasmine let him in? My favorite part was finding out Jasmine's animal. I wanted her to be what she ended up being.

Rook continues the story of the Black Mountain Pack from a whole other point of view! Miranda Lynn never disappoints by bringing suspense, romance, and some supernatural shape shifting together for an awesome read!
I quite enjoyed the first book in this series, Mack, and while Rook has an interesting premise, the characters are likable, and the author has a good writing style, I didn't connect with the story like I did in the first one. It is a continuing story and if you haven't read the first book, things in this one may be somewhat confusing. The story is easy enough to follow, but there are references to things that take place in Mack. The story is fast-paced and emotional, especially the treatment of people under the old alpha's rule. I was a thrown by how quickly some of these people accept a new alpha and all the changes that are being implemented, considering the oppression they were living under. Overall, I feel like the story had the potential to be really good, but it just felt too rushed, making it hard to become invested in everything going on.
I literally just finished leaving a 5 star review for book 1 full of excitement for book 2 and then read the prolog in this book. Um hello!!!!!!! You didnt gets Sibbys moms name right, you didnt get the back story right, basically nothing was right except her mom died. Rook never left with her. Libby was in the wall hiding, the black mountain pack found her, Rook didnt arrive to them until after Sibby went missing again. He was Sibbys bodyguard yes and did help them get away but they left with a Rouge. Not Rook. Rook became a Cop Detective not in south America but after he became a black mountain pack member to try to find Sibby while keeping the pack safe. That just off the top of my head there more wrong. Sooooooo do I even want to read this book when I apparently know more about it then the author? Dear author please CORRECT YOUR PROLOG!!!!!
This is a quick and easy read but doesn't add anything to the shifter world. About what you'd expect from a pack run by a crazy alpha who got off on terrorizing the men and abusing the women. I didn't feel any real connection between Jasmine and Rook so felt the romance was lacking since there wasn't really anything to indicate "romance". She looked and him and blushed. He stared at her and wanted. And then they were in lust/love.
The book needs an editor to correct the typos (had instead of hard; read instead of ready, Katarina instead of Katrina), etc. As well as sentences that made no sense.
So nothing to write home about but not a bad story in itself.
This was a good book. I liked the characters in it. It portrayed shifters who faced adversity and over came it. Not as spicy as some shifter books but very enjoyable. I wanted to read more on the couples who boarded the plane back to the states and whether Casey the new alpha had her cubs. So i am off to Amazon to see if there are more books on this pack. I sure hope so.
I couldn't wait to read Rook's story after Mack's. There were a few distracting, but easily fixable mistakes in this one compared to books 1 and 3. I wouldn't let that stop you. Rook is the most loving and patient man as he waits for Jasmine to get through her demons. I enjoyed the story but wish there had been a little something more. Maybe I'm being greedy. If you love shifter stories you need to delve into this series.
The love story of Room and Jasmine. After the death of Tomas, Rook is send to Brazil to the South America Pride. When he get there he is shock of what has happened to the pride. He find Jasmine and other female shifter held captive by Tomas. when he see Jasmine he know she is his mate. Can he won her after what Tomas did to her ? Great story.
Rook is a strong male lead and needed to pave the way for Caseys return as Alpha. The Pride is in worse shape than anyone could predict and it's only through tough rules and gentle urgings that it begins to come around. This is a good continuation of the story, it builds on existing characters and introduces us to the new ones in a meaningful way.
Rescuing His Mate Reuniting with old friends and old secrets in the dark hear of Brazil he finds a world of lies designed to keep him from his true mate. It’s a dangerous world, but Rook will risk it all to purge the pride of evil, bond with his mate, and help the new Alpha take her place as their first female leader.
Although this was the second book in a series, it was a complete story. Not the same storyline as the first book with different characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal romances. I enjoyed the first book, however, I loved this book.
This is the first time I’ve read this author. I really enjoyed Rooks and Jazz story. There were some twist re Jazz life that she had found. I really like this story.
A wonderful second addition to the Black Mountain Pack. Casey comes Into her own with a Pride and brings about many changes. What really touched me a lot these stories are the well written every day problems and how they work towards solutions.
I liked this book story wise. However. It was irritating to read through the editing errors in the back half of the book. Jonas also became Jonah. Katarina became Katrina...just makes me a little crazy
It amazed me the way Rook assumed the task of getting the Pride ready for Casey and Mack to take the pride to where it should be instead of the fear and terror her father ruled with.
I love this series, it keeps getting better and better. Storyline is fabulous, had me glued the whole time. Characters are so unique, I want to know more about them.
I enjoyed reading this book. I received a copy from the author, and wanted to share my honest opinion here. Before I started reading this book, I wasn't aware it was 2nd in a series. I haven't read the first book in this set yet, but found I still enjoyed this novel.
A woman has become alpha over a pride of were-cats that end up discovering this abusive shifter that has claimed 'alpha' but abuses the women that lives in his pride and keeps them separated from their children. It's a horrid situation, but Rook and his team help work on seeing that the women and cubs are well on their way to healing.
Many things occur in this book, and I'm definitely not cool with spoilers, but I'll just say this book ends just as it should. If you're a fan of the paranormal, especially involving feline-shifters of many varieties and/or a rescue and restore situation, I think you will enjoy this book as well.
Another good story in this series. We find old familiar characters in this book along with new ones. While it can be read as a stand alone I do believe you will get more out of this book if you have read book one first. If you are a fan of shifter series this is a really good one to get into reading.
I was given a copy of the book from the author for an honest review.
*Purrrr* Oh Rook!! After meeting you in Mack and Casey’s book, I was super excited to read about you.
Rook is the most trusted, elite pack member for Casey, the new female alpha of the Pride in South America. She sends him to check out the pack and make it safe before she and her mate Mack arrive to fix her pack family…the one her father destroyed. Rook is stunned at all he sees and hears of the old alpha. When he meets Jazz, he is fascinated with her as is his cat.
Jazz is a hot mess. She is scared but hopeful. She is worried about the cubs and about the other wives from the old alpha. When she meets Rook she is instantly put at ease as is her cat by him. He calms her and makes her feel things she never thought she might want. However, she fears what he will do once he realizes all she did for her sister wives.
Rook shows such great understanding and compassion for Jazz. He gives her and her cat space to come to terms to the fact she is his and he is hers. The couple are a great read of determination and resolution that if you want it you can achieve to get it.
I loved the side story of Jonas and Tam. If you think Rook has it bad for Jazz, Poor Jonas has it ten times worse with his mate. Their storyline has me full of giggles and smiles. Love truly can heal is a great message for anyone and a big message from this book.
