Hi, so excited about being on Goodreads and sharing my Middle School books with you! I live in beautiful Noosa, in Australia. For most of my life I was a teacher of Middle School kids, and what an awesome experience that was. It gave me the opportunity to understand the problems that kids go through. My writing partners are Kaz and Bill Campbell, they were also Middle School Teachers. We hope you enjoy our books as much as we love writing them for you!!!
Bella and her best friend Joe were working on her mom's time travel machine. She tried it on Joe. He became very, very small. Her mom had stopped working on the machine when something else caught her eye. Bella and Joe decided to finish it. Her mom also talked about a shrinking ray, that way it wouldnt cost as much on shopping items. Bella saw a button on the machine, she thought it was a undo button. It wasnt, now she is small. They have one adventure after another trying to get to her mother so she can fix them. They battle ants, beetles and even a hamster. They do not want to be two inches forever. This is a great book for grades 3-6. It is also very interesting for book reviewers. It is well written and flows fast through laughter and interesting circumstances. I found this book on a Kindle Unlimited website and so can you.
DNF it 6 or 7% of the way through, very boring and NOT funny. That’s just my opinion, your’s might be different and i respect that, but for me, it not worth it.
I don't know what has gotten into me lately but I enjoy reading children's books. The idea of becoming tiny and watching the world and everything around me appear massively large, taking my time to discover it all, has always been an interesting topic. However, the first chapters were a bit slow and I found many dialogues unnecessary.
Bella and her best friend Joe are inquisitive middle schoolers. Perhaps a bit too inquisitive. Add to that mix a basement full of crazy science experiments Bella's mother has set aside unfinished, and there is definitely trouble brewing. Bella knows her mother had been talking about a time machine, but she hadn't finished it. That's okay, though. Bella is convinced that she and Joe are smart enough to finish it so they can use it. They even did a test run, using the time machine ray gun on Bella's sister's hamster - without telling her sister Becky, of course. And it seemed to work. Honey the hamster disappeared for a bit, then reappeared. Success! So, of course the next logical step is to use it on themselves. And that is when Bella discovers that the time machine ray gun is NOT actually a time machine ray gun; it's a shrink ray. And she has just shrunk her best friend! But don't worry! Bella has a plan!
I would be lying if I said this book didn't bring up memories of the movie Honey, I Shrunk the Kids! There were enough similarities: a science-oriented parent who is a bit scatterbrained? Check. A kid and friend who end up shrunk? Check. Crazy hijinks trying to get back to normal size while also avoiding craziness? Check. Ants? Check.
But even with the similarities, there are enough differences for this story to be its own, and it is a funny story. Bella is very confident - some might say over-confident - that she can solve the problem and get her and Joe back to normal size again. While Joe acts somewhat as a voice of reason, he's still in middle school, and thus not always logical or reasonable. So it should come as no surprise that Bella's plans to return them to full-size face difficulties, but it's the difficulties that make the story fun.
As this is the first book in a trilogy, we are left on a bit of a cliffhanger. No, I'm not going to tell you what that is. Just that it's pretty funny - and very illustrative of sibling relationships. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book, to see what happens and what new problems crop up with the plans Bella comes up with.
My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.
Oh my, this book is hilarious! I read it with my 11 year old and we both loved. it. The only disappointment is that it ended in a cliffhanger which we were not expecting. But not to worry, the next two book in the series are available AND are both on Kindle Unlimited. 😊😊 The story is funny, engaging, silly, and just plain fun!!!
Bella and Joe find themselves in quite a pickle when they get shrunk to about the size of a bug. The story had me LOL from the very first page. It's not a slapstick type of humor, but the type that has you rolling your eyes, and smacking your forehead. 🤣🤣🤣 Bella is extremely smart, but she's also silly in a way that only a kid can be. Some of the decisions she makes are ridiculous, and the reasons WHY she makes these decisions are really funny! Honestly, I loved everything about the book except the cliffhanger. My son was super unhappy about that. It was a relief when we discovered the other books are available and a bonus that they are on KU.
This little gem is available for free on Amazon; the other two books are only $2.99 each. So the total price for the entire story is less than $6.00. That's more than reasonable IMO. And the cherry on top is that it's a really good book! Enjoy!
My child liked this book because of the humour, perspective, and liked how it was short and simple. She rates it a 4 out of 5 because in her opinion one thing was missing, better descriptive words to describe certain things people and events. That was her only problem.
