Displaced is an engaging story told in simple, accessible prose. The dystopian concept/societal framework Slade has begun to build in this novella is different to any I’ve come across before. Read full review >>

With a fresh, well-developed heroine, continuous plot twists, and an original vision of a futuristic dystopian Seattle, this novella is a satisfying read. J. F. Slade packs a lot into a slim volume, raising moral questions on both a personal and societal level. The main character, Kara Lee, thrust suddenly into a world that was once so familiar and is now so strange, grows and learns as she creates her place in it. Its excellent pace kept me eagerly turning the page to the impactful ending.

Definitely worth reading 👍.

The book is wonderfully written with a great storyline. It keeps you entertained right from the beginning. Le and Trey have a chemistry that spans twenty years. The twists and turns keep you engaged. I would recommend this book to any science fiction readers.

The concept for this book was great. Fun, easy to understand and it played out well. Unfortunately, I am a writer and thus, tend to be a bit picky about prose. This book would have gotten a higher rating from me if it "showed" instead of "telling" and if the author had made better use of the first person narrative to show the character's voice. I do hope this writer keeps working at her craft because the story itself was enjoyable and would have made for a great Sci-Fi read in one of my favorite genres.

Thank you J.F. Slade for sending DISPLACED to me.
Interesting dystopian concept. Soldiers being manufactured for policing with , supposedly, limited
human emotions. Hmm. The story leaves out some connections but it is a "Novella." I rated the story a 3 because it did have some different ideas.

I found this story very compelling to finish, although it is a short book the author gives plenty of details so you get an understanding on what is going on around the main characters. I can see this story getting adapted into a film or even a video game. I would recommend this story to anyone who like post apocalyptic fantasy stories.

The novella was just that but now I want more! This could have been a full novel or maybe another trilogy. Slade's writing keeps getting better and I hope to see more great stories from her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Quick read as it is very short. I would have enjoyed a longer book and the ending kind of left me hanging. Goodreads win review.
