The Seven Signs #3

The Old Man of the Temple

Rate this book
With the Conclave shattered from within, the fate of all Eldath hangs in the balance.

Fugitives from the place they once called home, Dormael and his friends flee the Conclave with the armlet in their possession. Hounded by their former allies, they undertake a dangerous trek to an ancient ruin, a place where the only things older than the stones are the secrets buried beneath them. With enemies on all sides, the party searches for the key to unlocking the mystery of the Nar’doroc—but they’re not the only ones seeking its power.

The shadows of antiquity can conceal terrible truths.

Will they discover the origins of the ancient weapon, or be destroyed by those who wish its power for themselves?

The Old Man of the Temple, the 3rd book of the Seven Signs series starts with a bang and keeps on going. I'm really growing attached to Shawna, D'Jenn, Allen, Bethany and Doramel after spending the past three books reading about their exploits. Each of the characters is growing and developing in their own ways.

D.W. Hawkins is a strong writer who paints vivid pictures of the world in which his story is set. If I had to knit pick anything it would be there can be a bit of repetition in the battle sequences, but when they're 20% of the book that's bound to happen.

I'd highly recommend the Seven Signs series to anyone who likes dark fantasy. This is a story that only gets better with each book.

I liked the first, loved the second and am now obsessed by how the series will end! The Old man of the Temple continuous the story of Dormael, D’jenn, Shawna, Bethany and Allen.

D.W. Hawkins does a great job with the world building and the character development. The interaction between the characters is simply amazing and realistic. You see how they warm up to each other, get to know each other and learn from each other during the long hours on the road.
The story is astonishing, it develops at just the right pace; the odds between good and evil are ever in balance, leaving you on edge in hope that it will all turn out well (it will, right? I so hope it will).

Engaging, detailed, properly paced

I've read too many kindle unlimited books that speed through characters attaining skills, powers and so on.

This is the total opposite as a series.

Care and attention has been paid when fighting happens, when skills are attained, and when events occur. This gives a satisfaction in reading that I like a lot.

Its a great series and deserves to be up there with many of the best in fantasy.

Thanks Mr Hawkins.

This series is so much fun to read! I have thoroughly enjoyed Dormael and D'Jenn's journey. Each book delves in to the secrets for the Conclave and it's surrounding world. You'll find twists and turn when you least expect it, likable characters, witty banter, awesome magic systems and frenzied practiced fight scenes. DW Hawkins weaves a masterful tale that is fluid and smooth bringing characters and storylines together seamlessly. Can't wait to delve deeper in the coming books!

I have enjoyed all 3 stories and this o e just as much. My only criticism is the use of the word dear which doesn't seem to fit with the characters and the way they normally speak.

I loved this story and have enjoyed all 3 so far. My only criticism is the occasional use of the word dear, it doesn't seem to fit in with the characters and the way they normally speak.

Top marks / well done

Yet another enthralling installment by far the best of the trilogy but only just as books one and two were excellent reads and I'm so glad another is on its way there's so much you need to know, what happens with the conclave and where does the story take you next I hope its noir too long before its release.

Entertaining

Good read but at times very slow in places and it seemed to not go into enough detail around important storylines. Really enjoyable xx
