Lobo and Tehya

This book describes creatures which are a great combination of vampires and skinwalkers i.e. vampire shifters who can not only become animals, but also they can become anything living that has similar size to them.

Lobo is a skinwalker. He was banished from the MoonBound Clan many years ago when he was accused that he tried to seduce a female vampire after he impersonated her husband. He was lucky that he was not executed:

“Skinwalkers and people who can speak to animals are considered evil by some.”

Since then, Lobo was a loner. They never let him explain, but they let him alive. Desperate Lobo did not have the will to live, until he discovered a lonely female wolf who became his friend straight away. They lived together 12 years and they had a quiet life together- besides the times that he was trying to feed by female vampires and his wolf was throwing a jealous tantrum.

She was unique, this wolf, an individual the likes of which he’d never encountered in his nearly hundred and twenty years of life.

As you have already guessed, the wolf was not a wolf. And one day, she almost dies and Lobo needs to seek help from MoonBound Clan.
Soon his little wolf will become the woman of his dreams, while he needs to face the MoonBound Clan’s leader and finally explain.

Such a great short story!

I want more books in this series!!! Seriously now, this series is awesome. Why there are only three books published?

Forsaken by Larissa Ione is a short but interesting read/listen.  This is book 2.5 in the Moonbound Clan series. I have had this on my kindle for some time now, but recently got the chance to read it.

This installment introduces Lobo and Teyah. Lobo is a 120-year-old vampire who is also a skin walker. He can shift into any living form, be it human or animal. A former member of the Moonbound Clan, banned for shifting into the form of another clan member. Since then he has been wandering the woods and living a lonely existence.  That all changed when he rescued a wolf, that was injured and on the brink of starvation. She became his constant companion for 12 years.

What he did not know is that Teyah was no ordinary wolf.

I found Lobo to be an intriguing character. His protective nature led him to take a great risk to save Teyah’s life. A risk that would pay off in the end.

Teyah proved a fascinating character. Loyal and fiercely protective of Lobo. She showed courage in the face of danger.

Despite, this being a short read, the story packed a punch. There was sufficient romance, action and heat to keep me glued to the pages.

The fluidity of the story made it easy to follow. I loved the world building, which made me realised how much I missed this series.  I curious to know if there are plans to continue the series. The good thing about this, there is no need to read the previous books prior to reading this installment.

Narration

Amy Landon narrated the story. This is my first time listening to her work and I enjoyed every moment. She did a good job with the narration. Her pace and tone fit the story well.

Conclusion/Recommendation

Overall, a good read with interesting characters

It was a really cute novella. I would have preferred a longer book for those two.

It has been a few years since the last book in this series and I've lost track of what has happened since then, but I still enjoyed the love story between Lobo and Tehya.

The nicest part is the love Tehya had for Lobo even in wolf form. A different kind of love, not a carnal kind that many shifter books have. A love like a dog could have for his human.

In her wolf form she was very possessive of Lobo and it continued also in her human form.

Lobo was very dear too. His attachment to Tehya-wolf was great. He was ready to sacrify his life to save hers, even if he didn't know she was a woman. He loved the animal for itself!

A lovely, lovely story!

I have missed this series, and am so excited to finally get another taste! Originally published in the Blood Red Kiss anthology, this novella is #2.5 in the MoonBound Clan Vampires series and is now available to purchase on its own. It’s a great read with a unique, sexy and heartfelt romance and fantastic paranormal action, and is a great addition to the series.

Vampire loner, Lobo, has been seen in glimpses in the previous books of the series, and I was so excited to finally get his story. As a rare and feared ‘skinwalker’, Lobo can shift into other forms, and was banished from the MoonBound Clan 12 years previously for doing just that. Alone and at his lowest point, he came across an injured wolf and nursed her back to health. Tehya has been his solace and constant companion since that day, and the two share a special bond. So when she is injured once again, he’ll risk his own life to save her from death, taking her into the heart of MoonBound territory to get help.

Unbeknownst to Lobo, Tehya is actually a vampire who shifted into wolf form shortly after being turned and has been unable to shift back. She has grown accustomed to life as an animal, even though she’s desperately in love Lobo and is unable to do anything about it. So when she wakes in human form in the middle of a clan of vampires, she’s absolutely terrified and she runs to the one man she can trust.

It’s a great setup for a love story, and the connection that Lobo and Tehya have always shared is still very much there when they finally meet as vampires, although now enhanced with a healthy dose of insta-lust. And like other books from this author there is plenty of hotness to be had, along with a gorgeous and intense romance.

“I had nothing left to claim as my own.”
“Now you have something to come back to? Something to claim?”
“Yeah,” she murmured. “This life. You. You’re mine.”
His grin made her heart soar. “Just promise you won’t pee on me like you do to everything else you consider yours.”
She probably turned a dozen shades of red, but she played it cool. “There are other ways to mark my territory,” she whispered.

But the skinwalkers are feared among the vampires, and after leaving mayhem behind them, they are being hunted. It will take all of Lobo and Tehya’s skill and cunning to keep each other safe, and to fight for a future together. Because now that they’ve found each other, neither of them have any intention of letting go.

“I’m not leaving you.” Her hot breath whispered across his ear, and his groin tightened. “I’d rather die with you than die alone.”

I loved this book. It’s a quick read, but is full of all of the action, excitement and sexy romance that I love about this author’s writing. The paranormal aspects are really well developed and form a great basis to the story, and I loved that we got to see the characters from previous books as the action all unfolded. And with the overarching story arc continuing to build, I can’t wait for more from this series.

4 stars.

This story has been published in the Blood Red Kiss anthology so do not buy if you own that. I get that publishing is a risky business and recently several traditional publishers are no longer trading which means many authors are getting back the rights to their books and re-releasing which means readers really have to pay attention . Now fortunately I hadn't got around to buying the anthology so to me this short story was completely new. Funnily enough this hadn't been my favourite series by this amazing author but reading this has really made me hope she continues it.
It was interesting seeing the other side of the Moonbound Clan Vampires and being able to catch up with the estranged Lobo added a whole new element. He's able to shift into other forms but has no idea the Wolf who has become his companion also has that ability or does she? Tehya isn't the normal run of the mill shifter ( no not at all !) and she's well and truly stuck but with her memory fragmented what is she supposed to do? Fiercely protective of Lobo Tehya will do anything to stay with him but when she's mortally wounded Lobo does the only thing he can to save her , he takes her to the Clan that threw him out. Now that wouldn't be so bad but things start going horribly wrong when Tehya wakes up!
This novella was eye opening. I was absolutely not putting it down until I'd finished. I loved the twists, thought the interactions were so funny and it's really got me wondering what could happen next. Yes there are Vampires, yes it has an unusual shifter twist but best of all hope for a much happier future for Lobo and Tehya. Plus the alpha Hunter gets to hunt! A series best read in order and hopefully more to come soon.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

The MoonBound Clan Vampires series is one that started off a bit shaky for me.  I really enjoy the idea of this series because even though we are dealing with vampires, this reads a lot to me like a shifter book.  It's in the involvement between the members of each Clan, the rules, the plots.  And I love that about it!  While the first book was kind of ok for me, the second book was really enjoyable and this novella followed along that second installment.  It features a member of the Clan that was kicked out a long time ago because of his ability as a skinwalker and the fact that he can impersonate people and in particular other vampires.  The law dictated he should either be killed for that offense or kicked out.  And he's been an outsider ever since, but never straying too far from Clan territory.  I found Lobo endearing and the story and connection with his mate was adorable and just got to me.  This wasn't a very long story but it packed all it needed to in it and I hope that if it's your first taste of Larissa Ione that you'll go pick up the rest of her books.  Yes all of them!

I positively adore Larissa Ione’s Demonica series. I read the first five books – those from the main Demonica arc before segueing into the Lords of Deliverance series – back to back, and I cannot wait to continue on. In addition to wanting to read the rest of the Demonica series, I was super interested in reading some of Larissa Ione’s other novels. One such series to interest me was the MoonBound Clan Vampires series.

On Larissa Ione’s website, she mentions how there is to be a big delay between Chained by Night and the next MoonBound Clan Vampires book as she is planning to release the next three back to back. I’m all for books being released in rapid succession, but as I’m not a fan of long waits, I decided to delay reading this series until closer to the time of release.

However, when I picked up Blood Red Kiss to read Kresley Cole’s The Warlord Wants Forever, I found myself treated to Forsaken by Night. I told myself not to read this novella, to leave this two-point-five book alone until I was able to read it in order… yet Larissa Ione. I needed more, and I found myself diving in.

Although I have not read Bound by Night or Chained by Night, I found Forsaken by Night really easy to follow. I could see where I would have enjoyed the experience more through having read the prior two books – the relationship between Nicole and Riker and the relationship between Aylin and Hunter would be explained, along with certain referenced events and the abilities of the supernatural creatures – but this also works well as a standalone novel. In fact, I enjoyed it so much a part of me is tempted to grab Bound by Night and start the series even though there is quite a wait for the next book.

As with my other Larissa Ione reads, I found this to be thoroughly addictive. I was quickly pulled into the world, the storyline, and the characters, wanting more with every page. Although it was just a small insight into the series, I gained so much from this one. Our main characters were positively wonderful, yet I also found myself enjoying the side characters. The storyline was intriguing, and the underlying story arc relate to the main series has left me curious. The world was a lot of fun, and I’m excited to see how it all comes together in a full-length novel. If the main books in the series contain what this book did – action, amazing characters, a great romance, and wonderful steamy scenes – then I’m sure I’m going to love the MoonBound Clan Vampires series.

Without a doubt, I’m looking forward to diving into the MoonBound Clan Vampires series in the future.

***I received this arc courtesy of Netgallery in exchange for an honest review***

This is a cute short story. We basically get to meet members of the moonbound clan and then the main characters. There wasn't a lot of time to connect with the MCs as this was a novella but it was nice to see the characters from the previous books.

At this point , I'm tired of waiting for this war that is brewing on the horizon. There are too many variables being thrown into the story, gods from other realms, skinshifters, witches, the invisible man, it's getting too much. My worry is that the story would get cluttered with all this added components and make it difficult to follow. That being said, I look forward to the next book.

I liked parts of this novella but frankly I think I like the 'clan' bits of this series best.

Lobo has been exiled from the Moonbound Clan of vampires and threatened with death, a vampire who can also shift into any creature (or human) of a similar size, from a coyote to a grizzly bear, he was accused of shape-shifting into another vampire in order to seduce the vampire's mate.

Lobo would have given up on life, without a clan he was vulnerable to humans who would want to make him a slave, if it hadn't been for the female wolf which he found badly injured over a decade ago. The two have become inseparable companions in the forest where they live until one day Tehya, the wolf, is badly injured by poachers and is likely to die. Lobo realises that the only way of saving his best friend's life is to carry her to the lair of the Moonbound Clan which has the nearest doctor, even if the way he gains entry could ultimately cost him his life.

What Lobo doesn't know is that Tehya is actually a vampire who accidentally shifted into a wolf and has no idea how to shift back. She has subconsciously been projecting her vampire self into Lobo's dreams, he assumes that Tehya must be the wolf familiar of a vampire, perhaps one enslaved by the humans.

I found the beginning with the lone vampire living in the woods with only his faithful wolf companion to be a bit slow, I felt I had read the same kind of set up in way too many PNR stories. I really enjoyed the bit where Lobo and Tehya interact with the Moonbound Clan, the politics, the changing alliances, the changes that Hunter has wrought in the clan since he became the leader. Loved it. Then there was the obligatory vampire sex which seemed to go on and on and on, in a novella the ratio of sex to plot needs careful consideration and I felt there was too much (only a personal view).

I liked the plot resolution and the hint of a cliffhanger (can't say more, cos spoilers), looking forward to the next in the series.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Forsaken by Night is a novella in the MoonBound Clan Vampires series. It has been many years since I last read book 2 so being back in this World was very exciting. Lobo has been exiled from his Clan after being accused of impersonating another member. He was barely living until he found a wounded wolf who happens to be more than she seems. Tehya was found by Lobo, but he is unaware that she is a Vampire stuck in a shift. I enjoyed this book so much, but I would have loved for it to have been a full-length book, and to be able to witness Tehya's jealousy.

I was such a fan of Larissa Ione’s Demonica series. I had great hope that these Moon Shifter books would give me the same kind of pleasure and excitement. The first one did not work for me, but I thought it might be a fluke. I hoped that once the world was established, I would be able to fall in to this series the same way I did the other one. Unfortunately, in reading this story, I feel confident this series is just not for me.

Tehya is a vampire who has spent the last 12 years stuck in wolf form. Lobo is the vampire skin walker who adopted her all those years ago and has been taking care of her ever since. Lobo is an outcast from the clan where he grew up because of his shifting abilities. Tehya has been essentially the only thing in his life that has made him happy since he was ostracized.

When hunters shoot Telya, however, it is beyond Lobo’s his ability to save her. He must shift into the appearance of his former leader to sneak her back into his old camp to be healed. Her body manages to shift back to human form in reaction to her serious injuries and suddenly her relationship with Lobo takes on an entirely different vibe.

While the world building is distinct, I simply don’t enjoy it. I don’t like how miserable and awful it is. I did not like any of the characters beyond Lupo and Telya. And frankly, those two weren’t really developed enough to make me feel much of anything.

There were times that the wolf/pet connection was kind of squicky. I also was not a fan of watching them mate in animal form. I don’t know. I just did not feel anything good when I was reading. No real love, no chance for sexual tension. Maybe this would be a better fit for someone else, but for me, it’s a miss.

I have really enjoyed this series but given that the last book came out in 2014, I sort of forgot about it. I wasn't sure if another book would ever be made, and just sort of gave up hope on it. So, imagine my surprise and excitement when I saw that there was a new installment listed on NetGalley. I'm not normally one for novellas because I don't end up making a connection with the characters or their world, but since I've read the previous two books in the series, I thought I'd be fine. Due to the major break between books, I kind of forgot some of the key elements to what was going on and wasn't overly sure if Lobo was someone I met previously. So, with that being said, if you wanted to read the novella without reading the previous books, you can. The author takes the time to sort of explain stuff without explaining stuff. So, I feel like this would be a great read for fans of the series as well as newcomers.

One thing I loved about this story was Tehya's character. After becoming a vampire, Tehya accidentally shifts into a wolf and is unable to shift back. Unused to being a wolf and unable to hunt or properly care for herself as such, she ends up in a pretty bad state by the time Lobo finds her. Thinking she's a wolf, he mends her, and takes her on as his pet companion. He has no clue that the wolf who's protected him and been by his side for twelve years is actually a fellow vampire. Even though the author sort of gives you an idea on how they came to pair up and their close connection to each other, I would have loved for this to be a full novel. Mainly because I would have just liked more time with Tehya. She was a fearless thing.

One thing is for sure, I hope we don't have to wait another 3 years for the next book to come out. I have really enjoyed this series and the world the author created. I know that vampires seem to be a dying breed in books lately, but the spin that the author puts on her vampires breathes new life into them

Title: Forsaken By Night

Series: Moonbound Clan Vampires Book #2.5
Author: Larissa Ione

Genre: Romance, Paranormal

Blurb: Desire collides with danger as a vampire and a shapeshifter cross paths in this searing MoonBound Clan story from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling paranormal romance author Larissa Ione.

After accidentally shifting into a wolf—and getting stuck—Tehya, herself a vampire, has spent the last twelve years as the pet of Lobo, another vampire who has the unique gift of communicating with wolves.

When Lobo found Tehya starving and nearly frozen to death, he took her in and nursed her back to health, all the while completely unaware that she was really a fellow vampire. But there was always something special about her, and he finds out exactly how special after she’s injured and returned to her true form. Desire collides with danger as he soon finds that he must protect not only Tehya but also himself...

Favorite quotes: “Don’t leave me again,” he said, lowering his lips to hers. “You’re everything to me.”

Thoughts: I’ve been a fan of this series from the beginning, and I have to say this makes a great addition. I loved the idea of our characters having known each other for longer than they think – just not in the way they think! The idea of Tehya knowing Lobo for years as a wolf, threw the dynamics of our characters off and made for an intriguing storyline! I would have loved for it to have been a full length book, rather than a novella, simply because I loved these characters so much and wanted a bit more of them. It isn’t so short that you feel cheated, though. The only thing to say is….ENJOY!

One little thing about me, Larissa Ione is one of my favorite PNR authors! She draws you into her story, pulls your heartstrings, and leaves you in an emotional wreck. The pulse pound forbidding action, was the icing on the cake!

Forsaken by Night begins with a young woman named Tehya. She has shifted into her wolf form, but can't change back. Which leaves her in a bit of a pickle, as being a so called "pet" to a vampire named Lobo. Lobo knows there is something unique about this furry creature, but can't find out why... He will have to keep an eye on his so called "pet."

Another great PNR read. The humor, suspense, deliciously sizzling chemistry . .
A 5 Star Read.

And do I see possibly another book in the MoonBound Clan Vampires series? If so, COUNT ME IN!!

This was short and sweet. Lobo is a skin-walker. Because of his ability he is kicked out from Moon Bound Clan and shunned from every other vampire sect as well. He found an injured wolf and takes her in. Turns out that the wolf was a shape-shifter/ vampire. It's an interesting world Larissa Ione has created, where vampires are hunted by humans. There are different vampire clans and each of them has their own culture and politics. The Rule of the Crow and The Rule of the Raven. It gets a bit complicated with all the Native American history, science research and vampire history all merged together. But it's a great series for all PNR lovers.

Supposedly, I read the other books in the series. But honestly I don’t remember. Nothing in this story sparked any memories.

With that said, I completely enjoyed this story and didn’t feel lost after not remembering the world building.

Everything was explained.

I didn’t necessarily love the narrator. She was good but I didn’t love the tone of her voice and how she spoke as if to give the characters accents???

What’s it About? Vampire Tehya has the unique gift of being able to shift into a wolf. Unfortunately for her, she shifted and got stuck in her wolf form. For twelve YEARS. During that time she’s been the companion to fellow vampire and outcast Lobo, who was unaware that she was a vampire. When Lobo originally found Tehya she was half frozen and dying so he nursed her back to health and kept the wolf as a pet. Then Tehya is seriously injured and Lobo breaks some serious vampire rules to get her the treatment she needs and while she’s being treated she shifts back to her original form. Suddenly the special connection between her and Lobo takes a new and heated turn, but before they can figure things out, Lobo has to face the consequences of what he did to save Tehya.

Overall reaction to the story? It’s been a few years since I read the first book in the Moonbound Clan series and I never got around to reading the second so I felt that I missed some key points from that second book that were mentioned in Forsaken by Night. It wasn’t anything major that kept me from understanding what was happening with Lobo and Tehya but I knew I had missed something.

I enjoyed Lobo and at the same time I felt bad for him. He was an outcast because of his particular gift and that hardened him into a survivor but he also had a caring, nurturing side when it came to the wolves he considered his friends. His relationship with Wolf Tehya was equal parts tenderness and playfulness, he had a quick sense of humor, and a selfless nature which was surprising given the way he’d been treated in the past.

Tehya’s personality could be divided into two parts: Wolf and Vampire. As a wolf she tended to focus on the simple things like running, playing, and spending time with Lobo. As a vampire she had more complex needs and emotions. I liked the way she saw things and how she could be such a powerful being but still be so insecure about herself. She and Lobo made the perfect pair.

Forsaken by Night reminds readers why Larissa Ione is one of the best paranormal romance authors out there all while taking the time to introduce potential new fans to a strong series. Even though it was a novella I felt that Ione took the time to build a solid story with two likable characters within an already established world that could serve as a standalone.

Wrongly accused and then banished from the MoonBound Clan decades ago, Lobo is an outcast. He's also a vampire and a skinwalker (he can take the form of an animal). He's living in a cabin with his pet wolf Tehya, when one day he hear a lone shot in the wood. When they goes to investigate Tehya is shot. More than a friend but his salvation when he found her nearly dead and weak from starvation twelve years ago, Lobo's only chance to save her is to ask for help to the people who rejected him before. Using deception to enter the MoonBound Clan's lair, the vampire is gonna have to deal with the consequences. But before that, he's going to discover that Tehya can change into a beautiful woman who doesn't let him indifferent. They're gonna have to run for their life but Lobo will finally have the chance to prove he wasn't the one at fault years ago.

A paranormal novella and animals are exactly what I needed to begin the day. But because the last book of the series was in 2014 and I didn't remember a lot of things about it, I worried the story wouldn't grab me. I'm glad to say that wasn't the case and the author gave enough info to introduce the universe to new readers and remind to the others the specificities. And you'll see again all the previous characters. Because it's a short story the romance was fast but I felt the connection between Lobo and Tehya and found it believable and so satisfying.

If you like Paranormal Romance and haven't read a Larissa Ione's book before, you should try it ! Whether it's with this series or the others, doesn't matter. In the genre, she's one of the best at World-Building !

This the third book in Larissa Ione's MoonBound Clan Vampires and although it can be read as a standalone it's best to read the series in order since there is an overarching plot that is tackled a little bit in each book. In Forsaken by Night, we find Lobo who is a shapeshifting vampire (a rarity) and his pet wolf Tehya living in the outskirts of the clans who have an abhorrence for Lobo's kind also he's been declared outcast for a long time by the MoonBound Clan. He doesn't mind this, especially when Teyha came into his life twelve years ago. But Teyha has a secret that even she can't unlock. When she gets shot by a poacher, Lobo has no choice but to go back into MoonBound Clan territory to save her life. When they get caught it leads to a lot of other secrets being revealed including a possible spy in the midst.
So this was really short but like all of Ms. Ione's other books, it packs a lot of action into it. Also, it is the sweetest romance possible for a paranormal series, I mean Lobo and Teyha together was just hug worthy! Those who love paranormal fantasy that is a little bit out of the box should start reading this series!

5/5 - so freaking good! Larissa Ione is a new to me author but not anymore, I am about to binge her library of works.

Loved this story, like a lot. Now to go back and read books 1 and 2. Also, wth isn’t there any new MoonBound Clan books?!

Skinwalkers, vampires, shifters, Native American culture. I can’t get enough.

3.75 Hearts This is a very short story of less than 100 pages. It can be a stand alone even though that means you will not understand some of the dialogue of the story.

There is a lot that happens in a matter of these 100 pages. Tehya is vampire/werewolf mix but has been stuck as a wolf for over a decade. Lobo found the wolf almost dead and healed her. She became his world and saved him just as much as he saved her. Tehya then somehow manages to shift back and life changes for both Lobo and Tehya.

There is not much I can say that won’t give away some of the storyline since it is a such a short read. This series is a bit different than most vampire stories and well worth the read.
