"Do not f*** the players. Or you will be fired."

As the newest "ice babe" for the Colorado Blizzard, I'm not too worried about breaking that rule. I know a thing or two about fending off hockey players looking to score.

At least, that's what I thought ... until I caught the eye of Blizzard captain and heart-throb Hunter Rockwell.

No matter how many times I turn the troubled star down, he's convinced I'm just playing hard to get -- and he doesn't care how much hot water his flirting lands me in.

If I were being perfectly honest? Sure, I'd love to spend a few minutes in the sin bin with the chiseled stud ... but I'd never risk my job for a filthy rich athlete with a dirty reputation.

But with Hunter stepping up his game on and off the ice to win me over, telling him no is getting harder than ever. It doesn't help that everyone already suspects there's something between us.

And maybe they're right.

Hunter swears no one will find out ... but I know we're bound to get caught.

And then he'll toss my broken heart to the ice, just like all the others.

So why am I letting myself get hooked on Hunter?
Hooked is a 50,000 word hockey romance! This stand-alone novel is the first entry in the Colorado Blizzard series. Narrated in alternating first person. No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA guaranteed.

DNF- 50%

I thought it was fine but honestly it could have been a LOT better.

A majority of the time I felt like everything was just too.. lack luster.

the heroine didn't resist the hero's flirting all that much. Did they bang immediately? No. But she did cave when the hero pushed for things (giving her a ride home, her phone number, showing him her new place, etc) so she might not have come off slutty but she DID come off playing hard to get. When she'd constantly go "no i won't" and then turns around a couple sentences later and does exactly what she said she wouldn't... that's playing hard to get honey.

I EXPECTED so sassy back and forth banter between the heroine and heroine but there wasn't. Instead I got the heroine half heartedly "resisting" his advances one or twice before caving:

"No."
"Come on."
"...No...?"
"Come oonnnn."
"Hmm ok."

I wanted a little bit of resistance, some build up, but the heroine wasn't giving it to me.

I also would have believed the whole "this is my job, we can't be together etc etc" more if she actually NEEDED her job. She didn't seem to enjoy it, the girls treated her unfairly, and she didn't need the money. There were times where she SAID it was against the rules, that she'd loose her job, but did that scare her? Did she NEED it? No. There was an attempt at making this a major conflict in the book but in reality it just came off half-assed.

Maybe if she needed the money (she didn't, she had a family who were willing to help her out) or had no other options at her disposal to make me BELIEVE she wanted to, I'd feel a bit more tension/danger from this conflict. From what was given I barely believed it was a viable conflict let alone felt any danger for the heroine.

On top of that there wasn't REALLY a rule in place. The heroine even admits that the other girls "fraternized" with the players and the hero says he's never heard of this rule and no one follows it if there was one. So why in the hell was the heroine so hell bent on following this arbitrary rule set by a woman who's clearly biased and mean spirited???

And who's to say Madison doesn't just up and fire her just cause she pisses her off one day? There's nothing to stop her and she seemed more than willing to on occasion. So why did Honor specifically want to follow this one rule?

Plot. That's why.

Overall there wasn't really any need for any of this was there? Honor didn't resist the advances of Hunter (so she WAS playing hard to get), there wasn't REALLY any rule about fraternizing with players, and Madison could have fired her ass at any time. With everything that had interested me in the book in the first place no longer interesting why was I still reading?

There wasn't.

The heroine was fine, better than most by not being TSTL or ditzy but she was overall pretty generic. The hero bordered on plain douchey with certain things he said but overall he was a your generic alpha hero. Yawn.

In the end I DNF'd because the book just seemed like a big waste of time to me. There wasn't any real drama going on and the "conflicts" set up seemed forced and unnecessary so I felt no need to continue. Maybe it gets better maybe it doesn't. Didn't feel connected enough with the story or characters to really care either way.

Ok read...NOT for actual hockey fans

If you write a hockey romance, the hockey should be as good as the romance... This book was mediocre in both. It had some cute moments and some sweet ones, but it felt rushed. Neither character took their work seriously, and it felt like the author just picked a random sport and said what kind of silly situations can I come up with? It has the basic romantic formula from the 80's playbook: good girl meets bad boy; he likes her; she resists because they "shouldn't" but likes him so after a couple of no's, she says yes. Catty, jealous girl causes problems; alpha male runs after good girl; catty jealous girl gets punished; lovers together; everyone cheers; HEA. No major technical issues. Lots of sex scenes. I would have loved if the dialogue had either broken from cliche or had incorporated more of the sport and had more realistic reactions from the team management and coaches.

Short and Cute

It was a quick read with a decent, sweet storyline. It was also not well written and poorly edited. The characters weren't developed very well and a little flat, the adjectives in some of the scenes were off putting for me and there was a pretty big timeline error...was it yesterday or two days before that they talked? Both characters had a different timeline for the first phone call they had. Overall, fine for a freebie but I would have been disappointed if I'd purchased this book.

Cute, fun, and entertaining!
I read this book on a Sunday afternoon. It was a cute story, fun characters, and overall an enjoyable read! The character's inner dialogue made them seem like real people (I mean, he realized he asked her to quit her job, not be his girlfriend). I love how Honor stood up to her boyfriend from the get-go and also pointed out that mean girls, at any age, still exist!

This was an enjoyable, and spicy quick read for anyone who loves the hockey player trope. Hunter was sweet and charming, and I loved everything about Honor’s character.

This story had all the sporty feels and environment, complete with teammate bros, a resident mean girl, and of course a rival team; which all came together for an entertaining tale with a HEA.

This was my first June Winters read but it won’t be my last!

This hockey romance was a quick read and enjoyable.
The climax seemed a little too quick, but I enjoyed it all the same.
I think Hunter and Honor definitely clicked, but I felt there was also room to grow more.
I would read this author again and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Cute

A cute and easy read. The characters weren't too bad but they weren't the best. They didn't quite have the depth to them that I would have loved, but they weren't boring either. Definitely a fast paced story. Guaranteed HEA that was really sweet.

I loved this story. My only issue is that I wish goodreads listed this as a series and I wouldve read Grudge Puck first. The story itself was entertaining and hot. As a hockey fan I enjoyed the on ice segments.

This story was ok. It seems a little juvenile for me, don't get me wrong I liked the story and the cuteness of the romance between Hunter and Honor. The descriptions in some of the scenes were a little off putting for me. But like I said I like the story, it just need a little more.

Fun

Enjoyed the read. Sweet characters. Some issues, but nothing too deep or troubling. But then all the stars aligned and the problems vanished. Just a fun, simple trip.

Amazingly good story with the right amount of hockey and a strong female lead character. The tempo was a bit fast but it all worked well. PS. not sure you can drive a car with hockey skates on. I am willing to let the author take artistic license!!!

*I voluntarily read a review copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*

This is the first book to be read by this author and I wasn't left disappointed. The author balanced hockey and romance beautifully.

Hunter and Honor had amazing chemistry: it was intense yet passionate. Their interactions were sweet, fun and entertaining.

I couldn't stand Madison; I felt like slapping her all the way through lol.

This was a fun, sexy yet steamy hot read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I loved Hunter & Honor's story. I could really relate to it. It's been a while since I've read a hockey romance...but seeing as it's my favorite sport...I couldn't seem to get enough. Really enjoyed this new author, to me. Great book & hope she writes more hockey romance.

June Winters had me hooked from chapter one with this witty and sweet romance. It's so much more than a Hockey Romance. It was refreshing, funny and sweet. It perfectly depicts heartbreak, how we hide that heartbreak and sometimes how we meet the right person to see us through that heartbreak.

The writing style is witty and flowed at a great pace to weave one sassy yet heart-warming story. I loved the dual POV as we really got to know Honor and Hunter. I loved how Honor would think Hunter was drop dead sexy, yet turn him away all because of the "No Fraternization" policy, even if she did want to jump him! And how Hunter would be confused as Honor would turn him down...she wasn't impressed by money, his fame or even his advances...this was both refreshing and scary for him. The secondary characters added more layers to the story...even Madison who played the villain well added her evil dynamics to the story.

This story is a definite must read for those who just love when the bad boy gets reformed by the sweet girl next door type and that sweet girl next door finds her wild side with the bad boy! Even the epilogue will have you swooning!

I voluntarily received and ARC for my honest review.

For the first time in what feels like forever, my hometown team has found their on-ice magic. What does that mean for me? I've kinda fallen in love with hockey fiction. This is one of the best examples of the genre I've read in a while. I love when a cocky alpha-hole has to learn to hear the word "no". Hunter isn't that big a jerk as an alpha, but he hasn't been told "no" very often so I really enjoyed it every time Honor said it. And I really loved watching Hunter teach Honor that she's beautiful and valuable. The playful banter between them and their teammates and family was a nice, light break from the big emotions the two of them had to work through. This was a fun read that I didn't want to end. I hope, in the future, to see stories about the other Blizzard players too.

Great hockey romance, I thought it was a really sweet romance packed with some heat. Neither Hunter nor Honor were looking for love, but from their first meeting, he already knew there was something special about her. Honor was trying to do the right thing and stay away, but Hunter's persistence was sweet and endearing. I thought the sex scenes were pretty hot, but sometimes there were a lot of details completely left out, while in others we got to see what was going on. I liked the heat and was hoping for more, but the story itself was really engaging and heartfelt. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Hooked: A Hockey Romance by June Winters is a Sports Romance

Honor has become the latest ice girl after beating out 50 other girls at the open auditions. Madison, the captain of the ice girl squad, tells Honor that there's a strict no fraternization policy with the players. After the audition, Honor waits in vain for boyfriend Todd to pick her up, and calls to his phone go unanswered. Honor turns down an offer of assistance from a young man who leaves the stadium but he refuses to take no for an answer. Hunter is the devastatingly handsome captain of the Blizzard hockey team and is intrigued by the feisty and cute Honor. After Hunter drops Honor off, she dumps Todd when he gets upset that she got a ride home with Hunter. When Hunter finds out that Honor is single, he charms her into dating him. After a wonderful night together, Honor sends Hunter a text and gets mean texts back telling her that he can't do it anymore now that he got laid, to leave him alone, and that he's blocking her number. Honor is heartbroken and blocks Hunter's number. When Honor goes to work, Madison shows her the sexy photos of Honor taken on Hunter's phone which are now on the internet, and tells her she's going to be fired. Honor decides she's done with everything and that it's time to go home. When Hunter finds out about the leaked photos on the internet during a hockey game, it becomes clear why his calls to her were blocked, and he leaves mid-game to go look for Honor. Will Hunter be able to find Honor before she leaves town so that he can clear everything up with her? Will Hunter and Honor get their HEA?

Hooked is funny, suspenseful, sweet and steamy. June Winters has paired an exciting story with lovable characters for a read I could not put down. I highly recommend this book.

Light and sporty without being fluffy. I laughed, I got some good hockey, I got a bunch of hot loving, and I got a catty woman getting her comeuppance. This is a really good book.
