When Leaves Fall: A Different Point of View Story

Rate this book
Ralph wakes up to what others only experience in a nightmare. Chained to a shed, he has no idea where he is, or who his captor is. His memories are blurred at best. As the days press on, he finds himself experiencing a roller coaster of feelings. Hunger, thirst and pain become his only companions. Flashbacks of a happier time are all he has to keep him going. As his situation deteriorates, he finds himself doubting he ever had the very thing he wants most - a family.

When Leaves Fall is a dramatic thriller with a twist. Keep the tissue box close for the ending.

WARNING: May cause extreme sadness

Reviews For When Leaves Fall:

There's no question, my official rating for When Leaves Fall is 4 out of 4 stars and I can't recommend it enough. If you like suspense, mystery or a good twist you'll love it, and even if you typically shy away from those genres you'll love it too. The book very briefly covers violence and there's no gore, brutal violence, sex or cussing. It was so good that I looked up what else C.A. King has written, and now I want to read the rest of her books as well! If they're anywhere near as good as this one she's definitely an author to follow. ~ an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "When Leaves Fall" by C.A. King

Oh my, When Leaves Fall should come with a trigger warning label. This book has broken by heart but in the best possible way. It has been a very long time since I have given a book a 5-star rating, and this book more than deserves the honor. ~ Peachy Keen Reviews

When Leaves Fall by C.A. King is a powerful story that strikes at the hearts of everyone, even those made of the hardest stone. C.A. King builds intense suspense throughout his short story as he delays the revelation of the captor's identity and his place in Ralph's life. When Leaves Fall made me appreciate everything that I have in life, even the smallest of things. Ralph had close to nothing, although he captured my heart from the beginning and never released it. C.A. King's work struck me on a deeply emotional level and made me want to be more diligent in my community. When Leaves Fall conveys a strong message that drives the reader into action. It's a powerful and necessary story that tugs at your heartstrings and inspires you at the same time. I would definitely recommend this tragic thriller to any reader. - Reviewed by Hannah Richburg for Readers' Favorite

About the author!

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.

To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn't open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn't need to be a reason or trigger.

People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.

I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don't ever let anyone tell you different.

I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes - I want them to know they are making a difference.

Thank you for reading and writing.

When Leaves Fall is a short story from C.A King. It is a perspective story that is full of drama, suspense and mystery. It is somewhat disturbing, dark, violent and heartbreaking. When the author warns that you will need tissues on hand while reading this book, she isn’t kidding. It had me sobbing my heart out in complete devastation with what the character/s go through. The plot is ingenious, really twisting and turning and keeping you guessing right till the end. Even though I did guess the major twist, it wasn’t till the end before I was really sure that what I thought was indeed correct. The story is really though provoking, while really pulling at your heartstrings.
Ralph wakes up disoriented and in pain. He has no idea who he is or how he came to be chained to a shed. He wracks his mind desperately trying to remember something, anything that could explain the situation he is in. He wonders if anyone has noticed him missing yet. Or if anyone is looking for him. Does he have a family… Or friends? Where is his home, because this shed is certainly not his home?
“Home. He wanted to go home. He wanted to leave this place and never think about it again. Would he ever see his home again? He pushed the strange thought from his mind, not allowing it any time to fester and infect his will.”
“None of this made sense. He tried to remember what happened, but memories failed him, providing only quick glimpses of random pictures in his mind. Someone had put him there, but he didn't know who. He shivered. It was getting cold.”

As the story progresses, Ralphs mind begins to play tricks on him. He is having trouble telling what is real or imagined. His captor beats him, starves him and terrorises him until he fears he will lose himself completely. Where is his family? Surely he has one and they would be searching for him?

“A family. He most definitely had a family - not that he could visualize them at the moment, but he was sure they existed. He also knew they loved him as much as he loved them. His family would notice he was missing. They would come for him. He only needed to wait. He was sure they would find him.”

“A single falling leaf grabbed Ralph's attention. It fluttered playfully about, caught in a gust of wind. It blew around in circles a few times before drifting peacefully down to join the others. How lucky that leaf was. If, at that exact moment, he could chose to be anything, it would have been that leaf.”

I won’t say any more because I don’t want to give away any spoilers. But I doubt that anyone could read this book without being drawn into the story and feeling for Ralph and his plight, and rooting for him to find freedom, his family and his home. When the story finally comes together it will shock you to the core. Again I point out again the need for tissues!
A really well written and moving story that will stay with you long after you’ve finished reading it!
There really is no limit to the wonderful imagination of Ms. King- she never ceases to amaze me with the variety of stories that she draws from her creative mind.

Thank you Ms. King!

Have you ever read a book so good that you don’t even know where to start reviewing it? When Leaves Fall is a fictional short story that intrigues from the start and almost has your eye pop out with its big reveal towards the end.

The story begins with the main character, Ralph, trapped and chained in a shack. No matter what he does, there is no escape. The abuser is very mean, not providing even the basics of needs, such as water and food. No matter how much the protagonist tries to escape, yells, and shouts for help, no one is there to hear him or to save him. He isn’t sure why he is there, why does he feel so much pain?

Have I already made you want to know more? Well, that is how deliciously well-written this book is. The suspense and heartfelt nature of this book made me feel it to the core. The writing is superbly done. The author weaves the story so incredibly well, that you really do not see the reveal coming.

Although the book is short, the literary standard and the layout of the work are nicely connected and had a smooth flow to it. There weren’t any editing issues or structural problems within the content and I believe this author has great potential in writing solid, good literature.

I believe anyone picking this book up will enjoy reading it. The emotional challenges and the message behind the book are what make it a great read.

A short story with big impact.

‘When Leaves Fall’ is an emotive and powerful story that will remain relevant as long as neglect and prejudice exist.

The author has cleverly crafted a story that positions the reader to empathise with Ralph and abhor the way in which he is treated long before all the facts of his situation are known.

This is a great short read that one can enjoy in less than an hour and still be left with something significant to ponder. It’s an ideal “busy person” or “busy day” read.

A nicely written story about cruelty to animals and how it’s possible for a dog to be mistaken for a vicious animal. A short story, but worth reading.

When leaves fall by C.A. King a tear-jerking Four-star read. This is the first book in A different point of view story series. C.A. King writes a powerful story, this book comes with a warning that it may cause extreme sadness. Be warned the ending will reduce you to tears and you may need more than one box if like me you are a crier generally. I can’t understand how it can only be so few pages and still be such an amazing story, it will knock your socks off.
When Ralph wakes, he is alone in a shed, disoriented and in pain. Waking with no idea who he is or how he come to waken chained in a shed, memories are blurred and he doesn’t know what is going on. Ralph has a feeling that he has a family, and surely a family would come looking for him, wouldn’t they?
Without giving the story away, as this story has many twists and tales within it. It may be short book, but you can’t not read it. C.A. King is a great story teller.

I truly LOVED this book, nothing like I have ever read. When Leaves Fall (A Different Point of View Story Book) is the first book in the series by C.A. King. I give it a 5 star, and cannot wait to read more by this author, and specifially in this series. I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next. This was NOT what I expected at all. The author writes the story, getting the reader totally hooked, without us even knowing what we are reading. You think one thing, and then about halfway through, you discover who is writing the story, and it is a total mind shock. I even re read it to look for hints or clues along the way, and knowing what I know now, I picked up on them. But the first time around there was no indication. I know this sounds confusing, but I don't want to give any spoilers.
Ralph wakes up, and quickly realizes he is living people's worst nightmares. He is in a shed, chained up, without food and water. He doesn't remember who he is, or where he is. He tries so hard to gain any memory he can, of where he is, how he got there and who his family is. All he gets are blurred generic memories. He imagines happier times, but isn't sure if they are truly memories, or just hopes and dreams. The situation goes from bad to worse, until one day, his freedom comes. It is NOT what we are expecting, and is a total shock. I suggest keeping tissues close by, as this has a emotional ending.

When Leaves Fall (A Different Point of View Story Book 1) by C.A. King

5 Stars

He wakes up realizing he is laying on dirt. Where is he? Why is he here? Who is he? As memories flood his mind he thinks he remembers better times, but everything is hazy. He tries to leave the small shed he wakes up in and realizes he is trapped by something too tight around his neck, as he cries out he is all of a sudden hit by something, many times, it's raining, he is soaked and wet and in pain. He hears a name, Ralph, yes this must be his name. What is going on, he hears voices but it seems they can't hear him, what crime has he committed that has him deserving to be a prisoner like this. Hungry and in pain, it's getting worse and his flashbacks have him wondering if they are just dreams. If he had a family wouldn't they be saving him or looking for him?

This is a heart wrenching story, making me feel all kinds of emotions during it and at the end. Written in a way that will stay with me forever when I come across certain situations especially. This is my first book by this author and it has definitely left me wondering about her other work. This was written very well and I can't wait to check out everything else she has written.

When Leaves Fall (A Different Point of View Story Book 1)
By: C.A. King
5 out of 5 stars

The story When Leaves Fall (A Different Point of View Story Book 1) by C.A. King is a short story that will leave a big impact. You are introduced to Ralph who wakes up chained to a shed not knowing who he is. He also doesn’t know how he has come to be there. He keeps hoping that his family will come to save him. What will happen to Ralph?

This book is all about the ordeal that Ralph is going through and all of the emotions that go with it. It starts with confusion, then goes to sadness and eventually, Ralph starts to feel hopeless. We all have a need to feel love and feel like we belong. Ralph is no different. Parts of this story also had me angry. This came with the way Ralph was treated and who was the cause. I have read several of the author’s books and have always found her to create meaningful stories and wonderful characters. I always look forward to reading her books. This book is just the latest example of her amazing work.

When Leaves Fall by C.A. King
Four Stars

When Leaves Fall ( A Different Point of View) by C.A. King is a short story that is full of mystery, suspense and drama. It may be short but it really packs a punch. There is a tissue warning that comes with this book and believe me you will need them. C.A. has such a descriptive mind to come up with all of the twist and turns that happen in this book.

Ralph has woken up in a nightmare. He is chained to a shed. He is not sure what is happening, why he is there or who has him. Things get worse as time go on. Memories are the only thing that keeps him in there, when the pain, hunger and fear get worse and worse.

This story is written in the third person and deals with some dark subject matter. It held my attention from the first page. I have read five or six of C.A.’s other books and really like her writing style, although this book is different than I have read from this author in the past. This book made me sad and angry, but it had a lesson.

When Leaves Fall: A different point of view by C.A. King. It is another amazing short story by C.A. King, an author that I have grown to love and respect. The author does warn you in the beginning in her synopsis: WARNING: May cause extreme sadness.

When she warns you something like that you got to take that into consideration because she never says something like that lightly. I of course give five star rating simply because the right is magnificent. I seen that there was going to be more books to this series and I cannot wait until I see more from this author.

Since the moment that I found this author I have been nothing but addicted to her books.

When Leaves Fall is different in a sense it is a darker thriller. Ralph though starts off in the beginning of the book being very confused. He doesn’t know where he is or what happened to him. Being confused you can tell how his mind works slowly.

Saying anything more about the book will ruin it and I’m not going to even say anything more but I really liked the book. It was short and sweet. I love that. I can’t wait to read more about this book.

Where Leaves Fall is a different perspective short story that will open your eyes, and help you to see a scenario in a different light. I won’t give any details away since it will ruin the experience, but I will warn you to make sure a box of tissues is never far away while you read this. There is a beauty in this story that will grip you, and even if you are able to figure out the “twist” you will not believe what you are reading. I was sickened and disturbed but I know that there is a reason for this story, to make you think.
This was a four-star read for me because it was just wonderfully done. It’s hard to get such depth and feeling in such a few pages, but C.A. King does it expertly and with grace. She is a force to be reckoned with even if you must fight her off with used tissues. I suggest that everyone who is sympathetic to the ones around them to pick up this story and read it, take it in and learn from it like I did. I don’t think you will regret it.

There is very little I can tell you about the story of this book without giving away the story.

I can tell you that it is a truly amazing tale that will make you cry, gasp and think. It is a short story yet the author manages to convey so much. It is a gripping tale of Ralph who wakes up to find himself chained up in a shack. His journey is one of true heartbreak and the subject matter within the story is something that happens far too much. The different perspective is a very clever and genius way of driving the point of this story home and straight into our hearts.

It is a very dark and violent tale with a twist that changes very thing you think you know to be true and makes you think long and hard about the situation Ralph finds himself in. The true sadness of the story comes when you realise that this situation happens a lot and we have been given an insight into a side of it that we have never had before.

This is such a clever and poignant story and a different direction from other things I have read from this author. This book has reinforced my love for C A King and I would highly recommend that you read anything written by them.

He wakes not remembering who he is or what happened to him. He finds himself in a nightmare he can not wake from. Day after day it only gets worse, he can not find any relief. He finds himself chained to a shed, if you can call it a shed, he is hungry, he is thirsty,he is hurt. Where is his family? Where is the people who love him? What is his name? Who has captured him? Why is he here? He didn’t think he was bad, was he? Can anyone hear him? Why won’t help come? Will help come? My memories are going, my sight is going, I think my mind is going.

As the title says this is definitely a story from a different point of view. When Leaves Fall is definitely a dark thriller with a twist you will not see coming in a million years. It is also very sad at the end. You will not find another story like this one. It is very cleverly written.

“The leaves. Jumping in the leaves would always be his favorite thing to do.”

“A shack. He was in a shack made entirely out of wood and poorly at that. Whoever built it must have had minimal skills with a hammer and saw. From where he lay, it seemed quite possible the whole roof was slanted. One thing was for sure, the structure wasn’t very big- maybe twice the size of him lying down and a bit taller than him standing up.”

Ralph is suffering and withering away in a shack somewhere far from the only family and happiness that he has ever known. Day in and day out he searches his bleak memory to find something about them to remember. Maybe it will be the way he gets out of this prison of a shack. “None of this made sense. He tried to remember what happened, but memories failed him, providing only quick glimpses of random pictures in his mind. Someone had put him there, but he didn’t know who.”

This is a short tale of humanity, and the ugliest that it can be. Not everything is as it may seem though and there is a really well written and provocative twist at the end of the story. Definitely think this book is a great little gem for teaching about humanity. I enjoyed it and look forward to more different point of view novellas from C.A. King.

When Leaves Fall By CA King – 5 stars

I am a fan of CA King’s work. I’ve read The Portal Prophecies and Tomoiya’s books. Ms. King has a unique writing style and a unique way to weave a tale. Her books are the perfect length and filled with detail and diverse characters. When Leaves Fall is a completely different writing style than I am used to in her work. It’s a 56 page short story that I read in about 20 minutes yet the story sat with me for a long time. One of those stories that was so indescribable that my review of it looks like this. “Buy this book, read this book, I loved this book. I’m going back to reread it right now”. If I had to rate When Leaves Fall based purely on emotion – I’m not sure there are enough stars to portray the depth of emotion I felt in such a short amount of time.

When Leaves Fall is the 1st book in what I assume is a new series being written by CA King called “A Different Point of View”. I’m hooked.

4 stars!
When Leaves Fall is a short standalone story by C.A King and is the first book that I have read by this author. When I first read the synopsis for this book I wasn’t sure what to expect – I just knew that there was a warning and I had my tissues ready! And oh boy did I need them! Even thinking about it now has me tearing up!
It’s hard to write this review without spoiling it because the synopsis is quite vague but I will admit that it wasn’t long into the story before I had an idea about who the main character was. The storyline broke my heart and I hoped I was going to be wrong about it - I know that I definitely wasn’t prepared for the ending. The story is told from Ralph’s POV and as the author says in the title it really is a different point of view! Poor Ralph I wanted to go and get him and take him away from what was happening.
I think that the author did a really good job of cramming such a lot of story into so few pages. It was fast paced but it didn’t feel like there was anything missing. It was very sensitively written considering the storyline and it’s sad to think that this situation happens far more than it should. I am definitely interest in reading more by this author in the future. A truly heart-breaking story with a very poignant message.

When Leaves Fall (A Different Point of View Story Book 1) is a short story written by author C.A. King. This story is about Ralph. The book starts off and Ralph wakes up very confused and chained to a shed. He doesn’t remember what happened or how he ended up in such a predicament. I don’t want to say much more than that about Ralph’s situation because it will ruin the story and it really is best you go into this story without too much information!
I love how this story started with the suspense right away from the very first page. There was no waiting and build up for the suspense to start . . . it was right there from the very start. I’m usually not a huge fan of short stories but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The length of it is just perfect and it is very well written. This is the first book or story I have ever read by this author but I will be checking out more of her work in the near future.

When Leaves Fall: A Different Point of View Story by C.A. King

5 out of 5 stars

WOW just WOW Ms. King blew my mind with this short story. I have read a few of Ms. Kings books and I have to say it again she blew my mind. The mystery surrounding Ralph will open your eyes and help you to see this story in a different light. I have to warn you will need a box of tissues while your reading this story because you will ball your eyes out and cause you extreme sadness. I don’t want to give too much to away so I’m keeping this short so I won’t give anything away.

As his situation deteriorates, he finds himself doubting he ever had the very thing he wants most a family.

I highly recommend this book and Ms. King she is an awesome author and I cant wait to see what she has in-store for us next…

When Leaves Fall by C.A. King is A Different Point of View Story. Wow. Just wow. I don't know what I was expecting but it definitely was not that. But boy was it so good.

Ralph wakes up one day and realizes that he does not know where he is. This place is not familiar to him, this shack that he is being held captive in. Captive? Why would he be held captive? What could he have possibly done to make someone so angry with him that they would do something like this? Where is his family and why haven't they come to save him yet? So many questions and so little time to get them answered.

There is definitely a huge plot twist which I felt I figured out shortly into the story but it did not deter me from wanting to read it nor did it change my emotional reaction to it. And when the author says you need tissues, you totally do. The short story is full of so many emotions and so much love and pain. It is probably like nothing you've read before. I enjoyed this different point of view. Ralph's character was well done as was Sydney. She had a hard decision though it seemed as though she knew who she truly loved. Well done in such a short timeframe.

“When Leaves Fall” is a sad yet beautiful story that deals with a very sensitive (at least to me personally) subject: animal abuse. Told from the point of view of Ralph, a dog, it dwells on the issue of human cruelty towards defenseless creatures, whose only fault sometimes is belonging to a certain breed.
Ralph’s story will probably make you cry and feel rightful wrath towards his abuser, but it’s a story that needs to be told because unfortunately there are still too many cases like Ralph’s nowadays, and the least we can do is to bring awareness to them. Five stars.

A beautiful, poignant short story that will tug at your heartstrings, full of love, betrayal and abandonment. Written from a different point of view, there is a moment when you suddenly realise the twist in the story and the whole thing takes on a completely different meaning. You will almost certainly have a lump in your throat by the end, as the author portrays this unfortunately all-too-common occurrence in a sensitive, heart-wrenching way.

To say much of anything about the actual story would give away an important twist, though I will say I figured out said twist about half way through. The writing is excellent and subject matter heavy with an important message at the end; it did elicit a few tears from me. Well done.

Very short, but very powerful tale of loss. This story really hits home to anyone that has loved a pet. We not only must provide shelter and food for them but we must keep them out of harms way. Truly a sad but important message from the author...

One of the true joys of reading When Leaves Fall was in seeing how far C.A. King's writing has matured since A Keeper's Destiny. Not just in the way she uses language, and the way she frames sentences, but the fact that she felt confident enough to step out of her vibrant fantasy universe long enough to give us what amounts to a tear-jerker... that's a bold move.

And this book delivers. While this is one of her shorter works (and King's not the sort of writer to toss hundreds and hundreds of pages at you at a time), When Leaves Fall makes its relative lack of space count. When the twist reveals, you'll feel the emotional gut-punch. King set it up brilliantly, and the resulting payoff makes up for any confusion one might have early on.

Just... have a couple tissues handy.

Oh, and for those of you who like happy endings... well, this isn't for you. But if you're looking for something that makes you feel, something that's just slightly different from the typical tearjerker, this is the book for you. When Leaves Fall is compelling, hard-hitting in its brevity, and hits all the right notes.

I give this story a rating of five stars for content,  creativity,  and clarity of thought.  When Leaves Fall is a different point of view story that depicts the sad life of Ralph.  At first it appears he is a man held captive and chained in a tattered shack.  However,  Ralph is a defenseless dog being watched by an evil person while his human is away. He found himself torn from his family,  living in hell,  and wondering what he did to deserve the misery he was living. A glimmer of hope reappears when he sees his family again.  The end is not what one would expect.

C. A. King is an author with a creative mind.  She can write on almost topic and entertain her audience. She has a knack for creating unique,  interesting characters whether they are human or creatures. Her writing style is smoothly written and flows easily through the story. I will definitely enjoy reading other pieces from this author.

QUICK SHORT READ
I didn’t realize when I picked up this book that it was so short so I read it in an afternoon. A sad tale, although I did guess the subject early on but a sad tale told from a perspective many people might not even give a second thought. Full of pathos.

Although this is a short story, its impact hits you straight in the heart. It's dark, somewhat macabre and shows the human condition at its worse. It's also a cautionary tale, thought-provoking and sad, but well worth reading and spreading the word.

Cleverly done.

When Leaves Fall
By CA King
**5 Stars**

When Leaves Fall (A different point of view story) by CA King is a sweet and sad tale of unconditional love. Life can change in the blink of an eye! Ralph finds himself in a prison of sorts being treated badly by the ones entrusted to watch over him. We find ourselves trusting people without truly knowing them and the ones who love us unconditionally tend to see the true light of the bad ones before we do. This story is a is truly eye-opening it makes us think twice about the way we treat others. CA King is a fantastic author and this short story stands with the best of them.
