This box set has the first four books from Bree Wolf's Love's Second Chance series. Although these books could be read as stad alone books, it's much better to read them here in order because the characters overlap and will reappear in another book as their own story is told as one of the main characters. They are well written and each one has a unique story line.

Forgotten & Remembered: The Duke's Late Wife
Found out about this author and this series randomlywhile browsing through the free NOOK shelf, and after reading this book, decided to buy the box set to continue with the series. I truly enjoyed all the characters, even though at times they fristrated me. They are so cowardly and timid in the beginning that they drove me crazy, but everything comes full circle in the end and I loved following their progress thoughout the book. This book ended perfectly, there's character growth and development and everyone gets closure.

Cursed & Cherished: The Duke's Wilful Wife
This one really bothered me and I had a hard time sticking with it. Almost made me regret buying the box set because I was worried that the remaining two would be just like it. It's essentially just an abusive relationship where she gaslights him constantly so that even if he's done nothing he is left wondering what he's done to desrve her anger and hostility. Somehow they manage to work it all out and find happiness though. Still enjoyed the first book and the author's wrting style so, although this one is a miss for me, I decided to continue on with the series.

Despised & Desired: The Marquess' Passionate Wife
Redeemed my choice of buying the box set, I found this one far more enjoyable that the one about Anna (although still not one of my favortes of the series). This books focuses on Rosabel's cousin, Ellie, who has suffered a horrible accident since we last heard of her. She experiences a lot of self-deprication and doubt, wondering how her husband could ever care for her or see her as beautiful with her scars. Frederick hasa hurdles of his own to overcome, suffering from battle fatigue and a sense of guilt over the loss of his friend, he doesn't seem himself as being deserving of any happiness or even to continue living. My biggest issue with this book was that the change in Ellie and Frederick's relationship was so sudden that I was confused that it had even happened. I though I had somehow skipped some pages during my reading, gave me whiplash. But there is another plotline that helps to solidify things, which smoothed the transition out a bit for me so that it didn't feel so abrupt.

Abandoned & Protected: The Marquis' Tenacious Wife
I was very worried about reading this one because it focuses on Henrietta, who is Anna's best friend from the second in the series. I was worried that I would dislike Henriettaas much as I did Anna and that it would ruin the book for me. But I was pleasantly surprised! I actually really liked Henrietta's character, her fear and hostility was more reasonable and genuine to me because she had suffered an actual trauma. Her marriage brings her to a whole new place where she is unfamiliar with her surroundings as well as the people and their customs. This was exactly what she needed thoough, to be forced out of her comfort zone and be given the opportunity to trust others by taking away her training wheels. I loved Connor he was great. So caring of everyone around him and a great keader. This is one of my favorites in the series. It was a great read, and even better for me since I went into it with fairly low expectations and enjoyed it so much.

I recommend this serious to all fans of historical fiction/historical romance.

Forgotten and Remembered: A well written Regency romance, Forgotten and Remembered is a gentle, clean romance that touches one at a very deep level. Graham Astor, Duke of Kensington has been deeply sad and depressed for so long that he has forgotten what it is like to enjoy even the simplest of pleasures. Nevertheless, he is a man of responsibility and as a widower he feels obligated to find a caring woman he can trust with his daughter. He knows that when he sees Rosabel for the first time that she fits the bill and offers for her. What he doesn't take into account is that when Rosabel meets Georgiana and comes to love her with a mother's heart, she will grow a spine and stand up to him for the good of her daughter. The book definitely has a flavour of the Bronté sisters to it, and I thoroughly enjoyed those books!

Cursed and Cherished: Edmond Dunsworth, the Duke of Cromwell was introduced to us in the first book in this series, Forgotten and Remembered. Edmond, the easy-going, smiling Duke who is used to smoothing trouble waters for his friends, suddenly finds himself desperately in need of a huge amount of funds and the only way he can fix the problem is to marry money as soon as possible. He is directed to Mr Hanford and he makes an offer for Anna, even though everyone has told him that her sister would make a more suitable wife. Anna subconsciously knows that there is a riddle to be solved, because the facts in her life are not adding up. Being inquisitive of mind, she starts her own investigation and wishes that she had left well alone. Secrets are exposed and when the truth finally comes out, Anna's worst fear is that the man she didn't want to marry, would reject her after all.

Despised and Desired: I loved this novel, despite the darkness and morose nature of the hero. When Frederick returns from war, wounded and riddled with guilt over his best friend that he couldn't save, he enters into a world of dark ponderings and misgivings. Elsbeth has also had her share of pain and suffers the consequences of her heroic deed. In a society where beauty and perfection reign supreme, she finds herself being rejected because of her scars. In the Lancaster household she finds peace and acceptance, even if her husband is unable to give her what she so badly needs. I found this book to be well written and despite the pain being experienced by the main characters, it was nevertheless and delightful story about triumph over tragedy.

Abandoned and Protected: In this well written romance, there is tragedy, betrayal and healing. We previously met Hannah Turner as the embittered young woman who tried to turn her friend against her husband. She certainly didn't invite any sympathy at the time. It is whilst practicing her skills that Connor comes upon her and decides there and then that he wants her as his wife. Instinctively Connor realises that Hannah would reject any proposal on his part and so goes straight to the source and arranges the marriage with her uncle. In the short term, Connor has to wonder at his wisdom, but with persistence he begins to demonstrate to Hannah that he can be trusted. The gentle building of the romance between Connor and Hannah meant that the protective layers around Hannah's heart began to dissolve. When faced with insurmountable odds, it was the skills that Hannah so diligently honed that saved the day.

I received a copy of this box set as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I read all four of these full length, stand-alone books a while ago and this is basically what I had to say about each of them.
1. Forgotten & Remembered
A beautiful historical romance where the words flow off the pages effortlessly.
I loved the strength of Rosabel to hold her own and her understanding of Graham's position and attitude, her willingness to explore life and her love for a child that she makes her own. All of this made it a very entertaining tale which I really enjoyed. I am very happy to recommend this story.
2. Cursed & Cherished
I am loving the way this author writes. Its so easy to read with just enough excitement, passion, strength of characters and everything that makes one want to read more of her books.
In this story Anna is forced to marry Edmond who is a bankrupt Duke so that she can prevent her sister having to marry him instead of being able to marry her current love match.
The cat and mouse games between Anna and Edmond are soooo brilliantly funny that I found myself laughing many a time. Gosh, but she is so very headstrong and has such fixed ideas of how things should be between them and is very badly advised by her "friend" on how all men are bad and are not to be trusted.
Luckily the warmth of love and eventual trust that builds between them saves the day.
I am very happy to recommend this story as a clean, romantic, enjoyable and entertaining historical novel. Enjoy!
3. Despised & Desired
This is Ellie and Frederick's story and what a story it is!
Both have issues and are scarred - she is physically scarred and he, mentally, but she is a compassionate and strong young lady who has decided that it is better to face reality and continue with life, helping those she can as she lives her life.
She really has to work hard to get through to Frederick, but she does and how she goes about this is what this book is all about.
It is a great story, filled with the building of trust between Ellie and the various people whose lives she touches. It also tells of the love between her and her husband.
At various points in this story their lives are put into jeopardy and by working together they manage to solve the mystery of who is the guilty party and the why.
A beautiful love story that I am happy to recommend.
4. Abandoned & Protected
Henrietta is plagued by an incident in her past where her mother and father die. Her uncle eventually marries her off to Connor, the new leader of a clan and she tries desperately to fight of her demons from her past and with Connor's love and understanding she tears aways at them slowly but surely.
This is a delightful story written by Bree Wolf for her Love's Second Chance Series and one can happily read it as a stand-alone.
I found myself empathizing with Henrietta's difficult decisions and her desperation and frustration when she realizes that she really does feel something for this man that she was married to. Connor on the other hand is unselfish, loving and caring (I want one just like him please!). Together they make this story come alive and I happily recommend it as an exciting page-turner that you might just find hard to put down.

Couldn't finish

I got through two of the books but the second was almost impossible for me to get through. First, I didn't realize these were clean romances but that might be my fault if it's in the description. I have no issue with clean romances as I'm not a fan of gratuitous erotica anyway. However, I find it extremely difficult to suspend my disbelief that these plots would actually happen nor were they exciting. The characters marry early in the books and despite their reasons for abstaining or for even marrying have some logic, I cannot imagine married people waiting over a year to consummate. In fact, back then people would annul these marriages. Plots are extremely repetitive. I despised the heroine in the second book. I'm all for strong female characters but she was annoyingly stubborn, immature, and honestly a b@$!#. I felt bad for the guy the entire time and found myself wanting him to get rid of her. There is domestic abuse on her part, seriously, at least three times. There is also a male-hating unhinged character that influences the heroine (although she's so stubborn I don't find it believable that anyone can influence her). It makes a grossly inaccurate depiction of the first feminists. In both the books I read, characters weren't believable, stubbornly stereotypical, wild charactertures of real people rather than realistic. There are moments of awkward sage advice from others that is at times common sense making me wonder if the characters are blind or simply ignorant. I felt like I was watching a soap opera without the action or romance. In all fairness, I bought this set at a very cheap price and the first book would've gotten 3 stars so it was worth the severely discounted price. However, because the second book, and the fact one of the later books features this seemingly insane woman who wants men dead, I probably will never go back and read these and I am a feminist.

Can You Find Love in an Arranged Marriage

I have enjoyed exploring a new writer these last few days. Bree Wolf writes Historical Regency romance. The four novels I just completed are books 1-4 of her Love's Second Chance series. These are all marriage of convenience stories with just a touch of mystery, mostly involving whether or not the characters can ever find true love in a world where relationships, marriage is more about money and politics then love.
The novels are light hearted and a very easy escape to another place and another time. I liked that Bree Wolf took me back to my young teen days when I had finished reading everything our small town library had to offer in the basement children's library. My mom had to sign special permission slip so I could be allowed upstairs with the adults. Mom introduced me to Georgette Heyer and Barbara Cartland romance novels. They were "clean" romances she felt were not too explicit for a "young lady". Sharing romance novels and discussing the ins and outs of Regency relationships remained a favorite pastime for my mother and I till the day she died. Taking me back to those delightful conversations about books with my mom, is one of the reasons I enjoyed these novels so much.
I also appreciated that Bree's heroines were strong women, not afraid to stand up for what they believed in and for those they loved. While involved in an arranged marriage they demanded love on their terms. And her heroes respected and loved them more because they were not conventional.
I look forward to reading the second set of novels in this series. I recommend them to anyone who wants a light afternoon escape with a good book and a cup of tea. And if you happen to have a young teen girl who is tired of vampire and zombie love novels, maybe you can introduce her to another type of romance . Who knows where te after discussion may lead!

Each of these books I have read and reviewed separately and enjoyed them all. However, this box set allows a reader to satisfyingly binge read all four books nonstop. I picked out some of my favorite parts from each book to read again. But ‘Despised and Desired’ I read all the way through again. I also provided a brief summary of each book below.

Forgotten and Remembered
A relentless test in psychological will. Such a heartfelt story of love and loss but the end result will find you smiling and rejoicing.

Cursed and Cherished
A love hard won but satisfying

Despised and Desired
I have read many books written by Bree Wolf and this one by far is my favorite. This story deeply touches the heartstrings. So many words of wisdom are written in these pages and Ms Wolf said them well. I love Frederick and Ellie. I appreciated their struggles at the beginning of their marriage and was overjoyed when they finally found their true happiness in the end. I highly recommend reading this book.

Abandoned and Protected
This was a hard book to get through because of all the emotions and because the subject matter was so close to home. Many husbands nowadays could use a lesson from this guy. This is an excellent psychological lesson for all.

I heartily recommend this box set to all lovers of historical romance with unique psychological lessons in them that we could all take to heart.

Love's Second Chance Box Set One sets the stage for emotional dueling of its characters securing perfected true love as their trophy. Rosabel parried the thrust of neglect and abandonment of her platonic husband Graham in Forgotten & Remembered: The Duke's Late Wife. Edmond parlayed Anna's vengeful audacity with goodness and victory in Cursed & Cherished: The Duke's Wilful Wife. Battle torn by life and circumstances Elsbeth foiled Frederick's attempt to leave her forever by her healing touch and experienced knowledge of suffering in Despised & Desired: The Marquess' Passionate Wife. Repelled yet powerless in an arranged marriage, battle skilled Henrietta and Connor became a fierce team in combating the clan's upheavel in Abandoned & Protected: The Marquis' Tenacious Wife.

Great box set of the first four books in this wonderful series. There is lots of action, intrigue, treachery, secrets, lies and misunderstandings, all working together to make this set something not to miss. I enjoyed the fact that I didn’t have to wait for the next book to arrive before learning more about the characters. Although each story is a stand-alone, they each include some of the characters from previous books which helps to build the storyline.

This collection has 4 wonderful full-length novels. Each one has a character that has appeared before and all these can be read as a standalone also. The author is truly gifted and she describes love in a beautiful clean way. Her stories are all intriguing and gripping. The characters are well developed and have appeared previously which is lovely to see and follow.
I highly recommend these to be read.
I received the box set from the novelist herself but this is my honest opinion.

Excellent writing with depth and insight

I am relatively new to Bree's work, but I'm quickly making up for lost time. I love the insight and emotional integrity of the work: the only story in this set that I did not 100% love was Sara's take, and solely because I could not quite believe that a man who disassociates to the point of almost raping someone would then become a reliable husband, but even there Bree made me hope, if not quite believe, that it was true.

Four clean romances

Four unique stories full of promise and romance. The characters are well developed and the plots are so well written that the pages keep turning so you can see what happens next!
I enjoyed each story individually but to honest it is so much richer to see the interconnection of the characters. It becomes a big family.
I look forward to reading the next box set of the series!!

Harriet. Oh Harriet

I didn’t like the heroine. Even at the end when she redeemed herself, I was past done with her mean spirited behind. Sooooo needless to say I had a problem with liking the story! A story, which by the way, was too sad. It took me days to finish this book and made me swear off of a very good writer for a while.

Unlikable heroines, unbelievable romances

Even though the stories took place in 1700s or 1800s, the heroines had very modern feminist views. Marriage was arranged during those times, but they acted like it was their choice and they were very mean and hateful to the husbands. So how could anyone fall in love with someone who is constantly snarling at them?

Wow wow

Now I can’t wait for the next second chance set. There is always reasons to be solved or to be fixed for a second chance at love, but the way that they all do, their journeys are full of adventure, both physical and mental.

enjoyable read

In each book there is an internal battle to work through. There is love and acceptance. The intimate portions are not elicit, which is nice. Personally, I don’t feel like I have to skip over those parts because they are vague.
