Brenna MacRae finds herself an unwelcome guest in her own home. Ever since her father married Greer Matheson, her new stepmother has been trying to get rid of her. She’s now intent on marrying Brenna off to a man old enough to be her father. Unwilling to marry anyone, Brenna takes matters into her own hands and runs away with the intent of finding refuge with her brother and his wife. She doesn’t make it very far before being forced back to Castle Treun and the possibility of a life with a very dangerous man. Zeke Barrett didn’t plan on traveling back in time, especially if it meant possibly seeing the woman he once loved and lost, but he finds he has no choice if he wishes to ever see his sister, Sara again. He’s determined to bring her back home to San Francisco where she belongs. She’s the only family he has left and Zeke refuses to lose her to a time and place that has long been forgotten. He enlists the aid of the witch, Edna Campbell, who agrees to help him, but as usual, Edna has an ulterior motive. Instead of tracking down Sara, Zeke finds himself at Castle Treun where he becomes embroiled in the MacRae family drama and he gets more than he bargained for when he finds he can hardly stand by and watch as Brenna MacRae is used as a pawn in a game between her father and Nevil Munro, the man she is to marry. Zeke must get Brenna safely into her brother’s care, but first he’ll have to deal with her family and the evil Laird Munro. Once he does, he’ll still have to confront his feelings about the woman who broke his heart and the woman, who despite all her protests, is the only one who can heal it.
Jennae Vale hit another home run with this 7th book in her series. In this book Zeke Bennett goes back in time to bring his sister home but instead Edna (the witch/matchmaker of this series) has other plans for him. Zeke's trip to the past takes a detour as he is sent to save a maiden in distress. This book is filled with characters from the previous books but you don't have to have read them to enjoy the story. Most of the couples are in "mixed" marriages - a man from the past and a woman from the present. While this is a time travel book, once Zeke arrives in the past it becomes a romance as he works to save Brenna from a cruel step-mother and dangerous possible husband. The characters are well written and they draw you into the story - you can't help but hope for the best and know that they will get their Happily Ever After.
When Zeke’s sister, Sara is sent secretly back in time to be with her one and only love Logan, Zeke is worried and can’t get her off his mind. He discovers she isn’t really on the trip she told him she was going on. He reaches out to Edna, thinking she might have an idea of where she is because he remembers how she felt about Logan, hunk from the past. Edna agrees to send him back to find Sara, with her own brand of twist on his journey. She misdirects him into the Scottish Highlands to help Brenna escape a forced marriage. He comes up with a plan to help her get to her brother, Dougall at Castle Breaghacraig. I don’t want to give away the plans, I’ll just tell you this is another of Jennae Vale’s stories from the Thistle and Hives series and this one is Great!
I was so happy to find out that Zeke's story was finally available! I've read this entire series and loved each book. Edna sends Zeke back in time to visit his sister, Sara. However, like with all of Edna's magic, she has other things planned for him while he visits the past . . . and of course, he doesn't have a clue. He wants to find his sister and bring her and her new husband, Logan, home to 21st century San Francisco. Along the way, he meets and rescues the lovely Brenna from an arranged marriage to a man twice her age, and her neglectful father who has a shrew for a wife. They fight their feelings for each other and eventually fall in love. Like all of the other stories, this one was full of adventure and fun. I hope Hamish gets his own story next!
I just love this story, and the time travel. The story where love abounds, and pain is shown. Brenna only wants to be accepted, and who doesn't? She is abused by her father who use to treat her with love, she's verbally abused by he stepmom, and her brothers.
She is being forced to marry a very evil man, and refuses to do so. Then she meets Zeke, ah yes, Zeke, Sara Bennett's brother from San Francisco.
Zeke, misses his sister and is very concerned for her, he has every intention to convince her to come home. or at least beg her to. He is a man of honor and he is single, yes he would prefer it to stay that way , thank you very much.
He makes a deal Brenna's father and with her, and then everything breaks loose.
This was a good story and I enjoyed the closeness between the characters; whether they were siblings or just friends. The time travel aspect seemed too easy to me, but I did enjoy the book and am looking forward to reading more of her work. I wished that more loose ends would have been tied up in this book but maybe that is going to happen in the next one.
I do wish I had started at the beginning though, so I will do so now.
I have read the whole series and don't want it to end. The characters so email to become part of your own friends that you wish to enjoy. I always love the Scottish history and the suspense and anticipation of surprise is always an added bonus.
I just felt like Jennae Vale was finishing her series. There was so many ways she could have gone, yet this last book was a disappointment. It was slow, and still left questions right from the beginning. I'm sure somehow she'll have to work that in somewhere. But don't think I'll be reading it. Lorana
Another fabulous story by Jennae Vale. A wonderfully written storyline keeping the reader interested from start to finish. I love the way the previous characters are intertwined with the current story. I'm always excited for the next book in the series. Highly recommend this book.
Wonderful series with lots of great characters and fast paced action. Zeke travels back in time to convince his sister Sarah to come back with him to present time as he misses her terribly as his only family member still alive. Little does he know his venture back in time will introduce him to Brenna, a lass that will change his own life in ways he never sees coming.
I've enjoyed so many Scottish Highland time travel books while waiting for season 3 of Outlander and Book 9.....this was another one with many plot twists and that happy ending I love.
I love reading this book I have read the whole series fantastic I hope will be anyone coming out to the series of time travel going to Scotland to make you a great writer keep up the good work
I love the Thistle and Hive books. Edna, that clever witch really knows how to make a love match. I look forward to what happens in the next book. Perhaps someone for Hamish?
You'll enjoy these romps through time with international destinations. If you like a story that makes you feel good, and you want a thoroughly enjoyable, innocent love story, then this is the series for you.
Again, I can't say it enough, I love these books. I read straight through. Wanted to know how this couple would end up together. So happy that Sara got to spend time with Zeke. On to the next book!!!!
This is another winner. I love time travel stories and this series is the greatest one. I highly recommend all her books to everyone who loves time travel love stories. She writes wonderful characters and great storylines. Diana Romano
