Step Boss

Rate this book
Four months ago, I had a one night stand that blew my mind, and literally blew my ‘you know what’.
She’s the one that got away, and I’ve been craving her ever since.
Just the thought of her, just a scent of the perfume she wore, and I’m hard as a rod.
So how do you think I feel now that she’s back in my life?
Great? Excited? Aroused? Ecstatic?
Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!
Because having her back in my life is pure torture.
Not only is she my new PA, and I have a strict hands off policy at work, she’s also my father’s spanking new stepdaughter.
That makes her my stepsister.
I’ve heard of keeping it in the family but come on, that’s got to be crossing the line.
The thing is, everything about Carley makes me want to cross the line.
I want to rip her out of her ridiculous new business clothes, breathe in her delectable scent, throw her down on my bed, and show her what I meant to show her the first night I had her.
You know what? Screw the rules!
*** A steamy STANDALONE contemporary romance with a hot dominating wealthy alpha. No cliffhanger, no cheating, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after. ***

Excuse my language for this review.

Just take my word for it that this book was BDSM trash that's so 2015. Bland, mechanical & unromantic.

Dynamics:
h - 22 y/o
H - 35 y/o
Meet through ONS
Reacquaint 3 months later as stepbrother/ boss. She's his PA. Personal preference: I'm tired of these older heros. I don't know; I just feel like it adds to the whole idea of chasing "young pussy".

I cringe every time we come to a point in a story where a hero is capable of tying a fucking knot or lace and somehow it has to have come from his b/d past. Give me a break. Some of us aren't so retarded that we have to learn how to twine some bloody rope or lace up shoes from our sex lives. I'm over belt lashes, strip & kneel on the ground, "sir", gagging, collaring, "your tears make me hard", let me enlighten you with my dom/toy lifestyle bs. Nah.

“My job is to care for you, to protect you, to allow you to grow and blossom. I can’t do that when you don’t answer my calls or respond to my messages. Do you understand?”

ALLOW, YOU'LL ALLOW HER?

Hero has loved before. Hero has fucked his PA before. She sees photographic evidence of his sexual conquests.

Goodbye.

I was provided an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book and I am thrilled to leave a voluntarily review.

This book is an absolute joy ride and something you need in your life. It's a hot, sexy, witty and laugh out loud funny read that I didn't want to end. Marcus and Carley have such incredible chemistry that just leaps off the page.

If you are looking for an erotic, playful, but sometimes intense, romance, you've found it. From the get go, Carley and Marcus are drawn to each other like the sun to the Earth. Because of their work and family 'situation' they put in a good effort at resisting each other, but it's oh so futile (thankfully). We don't have to wait long for them to cave to their attraction. At first it's all sexy fun and games but then things start to get more serious. When delicious, bossy Marcus shows himself, it's... well, difficult to describe but something you've got to see (read)!

Step Boss is a hands-down, no hesitation, 5 star read. You'll laugh, melt and tingle right along with Carley and Marcus and then you'll get your HEA. I loved & adored this book. This is my first book by this author (who seems to be just as talented a comedian as author) and I can't wait to read more from her.

Got for a honest review.

WOW! Talk about hot erotica in the office with her stepbrother. I thought for sure the building would catch on fire. But no fire department was called to put the fire out. It just got even hotter yet when the stepbrother started with his BDSM on his stepsister. The author kept the pages burning with just a right amount of story to keep the story moving along nicely. I thought the story was very good. The characters had great chemistry together with their hot steaminess that hit the pages. Their parents tried to keep them apart but Marcus and Carley's love was stronger. One hot stepbrother book. WOW!

Thank you for letting me read your story.

Review for (Step Boss)ARC with my honest review***HOT

What if you describe your stepbrother, and not knowing that he is standing right behind you, “Oh, you mean Creepy Marcus, the misogynist of the family? Well, let’s see. He’s never married because nobody can stand him. He keeps frogs of all things. Rare frogs, and I don’t know if it’s because he handles amphibians a lot, but his hands are warty. He can’t keep staff, mainly because he has this awful body odor, and terrible breath. Honestly, I swear it can strip paint. He’s also losing his hair and has a greasy comb-over that flops around in the wind. He’s always plastering it back in place with some hideous concoction he makes himself, because he might be rich, but he’s too cheap to buy pomade.” I laugh so hard, tiers were coming down my face. But she was on a roll, with her small audience spellbound, wide-eyed, eating up every word, so she kept going with, “He’s quite gropey, too. If you don’t keep your blouse buttoned to the neck, he makes you stand close to his desk and bend over to examine something non-existent so that he can leer down your shirt. You always know what Marcus has eaten at his previous meal because it’s embedded in his beard,” She continue. “He spits when talks…What? As she is reassessing the group, it appears they’re not so much spellbound, as frozen in place. Clearly, somebody’s entered the room. After she sees who it is she swallow, take a breath, I’ve got this. “…So that describes the antagonist in the movie I watched on Saturday. You know what these art films are like, they never have anyone appealing in the lead role.” I was rolling with this, it was so freaking funny*****
When Carley turned around she sees a face that she hasn’t seen in three months. It’s the man she had a one night stand with and it was the best night of her life, she didn’t give her real name and she is pretty sure that he didn’t give his real name either, only to find out that he is her new stepbrother.
If you want a fun loving, heartwarming, down and dirty step story this is the one with an HAE ending… With the way Ash Harlow wrote this, I'll read a lot more of her books!

I can't explain how much I loved this book. This was a new author for me and I now consider myself a huge fan. Fun, sexy and emotional, it's an amazing book. A chance meeting turns into a no-name hook-up. Neither participant can forget the other. Fast forward and things get complicated when fate brings them together again. They not only must work together but are now step-siblings!. The attraction and chemistry is off the charts and even tough both have great reasons for not getting involved again; they cannot resist each other. Warning: this book contains elements of BDSM. So if this is upsetting to you or you don't like it be forewarned. I found this book so emotional and real. Marcus knew what he wanted but also knew that Carley was his and that he was hers. Carley fell for Marcus but struggled with her feelings of shame and fear about liking the things they enjoyed sexually. I found this so realistic and touching. I think often books portray BDSM as something people easily fall into, with no doubts or fears and it's unrealistic. This book I felt showed a perfect balance of someone trying to come to terms what they want and need and the unknown. I also loved how supportive Marcus was. Even feeling that he could and would forego all of it because having her was more important. I cannot recommend this book enough. It truly touched my heart and for me is a true keeper. I received an ARC copy in order to provide an honest review.

All Carley has to do is make it through a year at Truebridge Group to pay off her debts and then she will be free to join her friend Viva in the business they have been planning for 2-years. Currently she is working as an assistant at Truebridge Group, the company owned by her most recent stepfather, Randall. Carley has not met his son Marcus yet, but is aware he is returning from overseas to join the company. Carley is in for a surprise when she meets Marcus because she has seen him before. He is the man she met and had a one and only casual hook-up with at a winter solstice party in Waitapu. Carley thought he was a tourist and someone she would never see again. Now he turns out to be not only her new boss, but also her stepbrother. For 10-years Marcus has been careful about the women he has associated with, but the time he met Carley he nearly broke his one night, no names rule. All this time Marcus’ goals have stayed focused on Truebridge Group and his carefully laid path to gain control of the family business. To do this Marcus has to make sure he is not involved in any scandal, but that is easier said than done when Carley is appointed his P.A. While Carley and Marcus both realise they have too much to lose for something as simple as an office fling, neither want to let go of their special relationship; they just have to be patient. When financial discrepancies in a project come to light, Marcus has his suspicions, but with Carley’s help he is able to apprehend the culprits. It is then that secrets are revealed and outside influences tear Carley and Marcus apart. When their love is tested, can Marcus make a stand, and will Carly ever put her trust in him again. This was an intriguing story and had lots of twists and turns to make it an interesting read and one which I would have no hesitation in recommending. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

Ash Harlow is a new author to me but I am so unbelievably glad that we found each other. This book is well written and the story is one that you will not want to put down until the end. Carley and Marcus meet one night at a bonfire. They are both very attracted to each other and decide to have one night of passion with no names, at least Marcus didn't use one and Carley was "Poppy". The night they had was the best for both of them and one that they never forgot. When Carley gets into trouble with her mother and stepfather, they are punishing her. Yes, she is an adult but that doesn't matter to them. Money and reputation is what matters and they feel that they need to make Carley understand that it's time to grow up. She ends up having to work at her stepfather's company in order to pay her debt back from "borrowing" a car and then getting into an accident with. When she's speaking to others in the office, they all of a sudden look beyond her to the new guy who is coming to work with them. It's her new stepbrother and when Carley turns around, it's just so happens to be Marcus. Neither of them knew who they really were nor did they know that they were going to be "related". The attraction between them is something that any person would hope for in their lifetime at least once. I will not go into any further detail because I am a reviewer that will not give away the story or the ending because if I did, would you want to read the book? I knew I wouldn't. You will not be disappointed in the story. Will Carley and Marcus be able to work together and put the past behind? Will they be able to have "family" lunches together without their families knowing what had happened between them? What will happen if they want to take their relationship to the next level? They have both disappointed their parents one way or the other and it's time for them both to show their independence. So worth your purchase. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book. Enjoy

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Marcus Truebridge and Carley Renshaw. Carley is stuck working at Truebridge towers due to the fact that she took Marcus’s car out and ended up in a wreck. So to help set her straight her step father is having her work as a floating PA in the company. One day she finds out that her step-brother Marcus is back from Singapore. Little did she know that he was the next person she would be the PA for. Can she learn to work and trust the man that she has never met before or will the fact that she has problems with his father already cause them problems?

Marcus can’t believe his eyes his new PA is his one night stand that he can’t seem to get out of his mind. It doesn’t matter to him that she lied about her name she captured him and so far hasn’t let go. He has a plan though and has no desire to screw it up with his step-sister no less. So he gets her to agree that that was then and both of them need to work for their goals to get out from under his father’s thumb. To bad doing the right thing seems to get harder and harder as the days go by. Can he follow though with his plan of being the next CEO of Truebridge Towers or will he loose it all because he can’t stay away from the one woman he can’t seem to forget?

This is a great book that will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I really is about finding out what is most important in your life and fighting for that. There are some twists and turns in this book that I really want to tell you about but don’t want to ruin it for any other readers. I will say this is an amazing book and I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Ash is a new author to me, and she is going to become a favourite! Marcus and Carley meet over a bonfire, where Marcus verbally (and then literally!) seduces "Poppy", both believing it will be a one night stand. You can tell by the title where this s going-Marcus is not only her step brother but also her new boss. Neither have forgotten their encounter 3 months ago. The story is set in Auckland and Waitapu (Google the images for Waitapu and it really brings the setting to life) in the Coromandel, New Zealand. The characters are rich and complex, and I fell in love with Marcus' alpha personality and self-deprecating humour. Carley is funny, warm, and honest in her emotions. No game-playing, just two people drawn to each other trying to forge a relationship despite familial constraints. What I loved about this book: Ash's writing style flows beautifully; her characters pay attention to the small details (the seductive effect of cuff links and those fingers!); the humour (pity-dildo); secondary characters (Predictable Kim)--when I went to write my review, I ended up reading the book again! Honestly, that good! And so, while I have received an ARC of this book and have voluntarily reviewed it, I'm still one-clicking to make sure I get the bonus content as well as a book I'll read again.

Hot, hot, hot

I loved this story. Carley and Marcus hook up one night while he’s on vacation with the intention of hitting it and quitting it. They don’t even exchange real names. Imagine their surprise a few months later to find out that their parents have married and Marcus is not just Carley’s stepbrother but her boss also. They both work for the family company, with Marcus’ father Randall as CEO. Marcus is trying to prove himself capable of taking over the company his grandfather started after his father retires. Carley is just biding her time until she can be on her own. Both are trying, and failing, to deny their mutual attraction while navigating office politics.

Marcus is a dominant and introduces Carley to the lifestyle. Any dom traits Marcus has he got from his father. Randall is a micro-managing control freak who uses his money to control everyone around him. Marcus’ father is a secondary character but his presence and disdain permeate the story. It helps explain many of Marcus and Carley’s actions. They are both held so tightly under his thumb that sneaking around seems to be a necessity to live. Sex is about the only part of his life where Marcus can truly dominate. He also teaches Carly about gaining control by giving it up. There is some light BDSM, but nothing extreme.

This was a much better read than I thought it was going to be. The MCs were great - developed and complex - and the situation was truly intriguing. Of course, the parents were fucking annoying as they were supposed to be, and the best friend only served one purpose, but it still felt well-rounded. The conflict at the end was also realistic and worthwhile.

Couple of issues for me:

The story dragged in the middle when they were having sex all over the place. I couldn't see the purpose of it, other than to get Carly used to being a sub.

The MCs had no willpower. Which is fine, but then don't keep going on about how much it needs to stop if you're not going to actually resist.

I didn't really like the BDSM aspects of the book. They were okay but I felt like the story dragged because of this and it didn't add anything in my opinion. Feels like the author was just trying to capture the FSOG audience, which worked because many reviewers are saying that's what they liked.

Not really sure why there had to be a pregnancy thrown in at the end either.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Who knew.....that one night stand would turn out to be the surprise of your life. Well Marcus realised after his quick one night stand that he may have made a mistake but now it's too late. She's gone, forever. Meeting Poppy was beautiful but now back to reality , things are about to rock his world. He meets his new PA and its Poppy.....no, no, no. It's Carley his step sister..what!!!! Carly's can't believe what she is seeing..it's him, Sir. Well not really, but it is AND he's her new step brother. A really good, hot sexy story of family business, family politics, control, secrets, drama and so much more. Deep down I know Marcus loves Poppy/Carley but they have to prove themselves all the time. Bringing new emotions to the relationship but a true learning curve in all ways.

What a fun, steamy, easy to read book. Carly (sassy, young, and fun) and Marcus (hot, domineering, and career-driven) meet by chance at a bonfire one night not knowing who each other are and then unexpectedly fall into each other's lives in the most inconvenient way....as step siblings AND co-workers. Marcus is a hot alpha male that teaches Carly how to submit to him.

“Hands above your head, palms flat against the glass. Step back, lean into it and show me your ass.” His voice licks across my body. I should tell him he’s deluded, to go fuck himself. That he’s not the boss of me, not right now, but for whatever reason, I don’t. His words are the hottest thing anyone’s ever said to me.

Minor BDSM (i.e. spanking) with dom/sub tendencies during the {steamy} sex scenes. A happily ever after that you can't help smile about.

Step Boss is a sexy hot romance between Marcus and Carley that started when they hooked up for a one night stand at a beach bonfire. It was a no strings attached giving false names and and when 'Poppy' leaves the next morning with a wave, he has no idea how to find her or even her real name.

Three months later he returns to his family company and find Carley working and assigned to him as his personal assistant by his father. Carley is the daughter of his new wife; that makes her his new stepsister and off limits. The attraction is still hot, mutual and not allowed by Marcus' father or Carley's mother, who control her life.

Marcus being her Step Boss he makes his own rules and they find a way to be together for a hot secret affair until... You will just have to read the hot sexy novel about a relationship that tests limits in every direction.

Everything was thrown into this story. You have a one night stand, boss and secretary, step siblings, secret/hidden relationship and this is all with one couple. Carley had to be my favorite part of the story. She has such a sassy attitude on her. Marcus, knows what he wants but he also wants the business.

There was so much thrown into this book but it wasn't overwhelming. Randall is a douche for his treatment of Carley. A year working for him without pay, insane. All over a crashed car. And don't get me started on her mother, mother of the fricking year there, NOT!!
The sex is hot and off the charts. It's explosive! Marcus knows how to handle a woman. There was also a bit of mystery with the building project.

Wow, what a great read HOT

This was a very good read. I loved it and would read it again. There are bonus stories, but they are not included in this review. Their reviews will be under their own titles. There was a few really hot scenes that even made me blush and jealous.
Overview. Carly is being punished by her mom and new stepfather, mind you she is 25 and they are treating her like a 12 yr old. She is forced to work at her stepfathers company to repay for the Porsche she wrecked. She is forced to be the PA to his son Marcus. Soon Carly finds out that Marcus was her one night hook up from the winter in her hometown. Now they are both fighting the attraction as well as their parents. A hot affair.

I felt like I connected so much with Carley. I wish she had a little more backbone when it came to Libby and Randall but that weakness contributed so much to her character and personality. What really struck me making me keep thinking, "Yes, exactly," was the calm and peace she found in submission. In a world where she was fighting for some semblance of control, that actually becomes her calm in the storm. It's so easy to relate to her. Marcus was everything I could have asked for. I felt he had just the right balance of traits that made him "real" and very likable. This is one of my favorite books I've read recently. Loved the writing style and the pace.

First off I couldn’t find this book on Amazon kindle or google books and iBooks wasn’t on Barnes and noble it wasn’t even available from my public library. I wanted to read it due to the concept being really interesting to me. I had to find this book online and read it online. It was boring. The chapters are short with hardly any grip to it. The characters are kinda dry and the steam is non existent. I normally like office romances and also I like step brother romances I thought the two together must be some story. I was wrong. I got as far as chapter 13 the editing is not so great had a hard time I usually don’t comment unless it makes the story kinda hard to read.

I enjoyed the book. These two had a real connection and just could not forget their time together. When they get another chance, it is complicated by their family relationship. He has some definite ideas about what he enjoys and introduces her to them. It has a mix of different types of popular themes. You have the younger woman/older man, the forbidden stepbrother and the the Dom/sub relationship and it is an interesting mix.

The overall book was so mehh.
It doesn't have anything new at all, the same old bdsm, whips and call me sir.
And then they fall in love, because plot. That's my main problem with these books how are these people falling in love they barely make any conversation.

I could see the conflict come from a mile away. The reason I've given this book 2 stars and not one is because it has consent.

I'm being nice

It wasn't a bad book I really liked the characters carley had a great personality and Marcus was a poet house\dom. I didn't know this was a sub\dom book and just didn't like how he treated her like a lap dog and then flipped when they got married. At least it was free I would not pay to read this book

Hot!

Actually hot didn't describe this book accurately, sizzling hot is a better description! Wow! The anxiety and worry over these two being discovered really got to me, the HEA was perfect though.
And, to top off this great story is a freebie equally capable of making you want to get naughty!

They way they first meet is just wow! Sparks and more fly everywhere.
And now he is back in her life as her stepbrother.

And his father and her mother don't want them together.
But they are magnets pulled to each other. Luckily enough for the reader, because this means lots of hot moments.
I like the way he is taking care of her and how he tries to win her over.
