it's on my bed and in the morning i talk to it:
florence--can you speak the word for me?
and then i open it and she says something like:
on this wonderful day wonderful joy is with me in wonderful ways and it's here to stay!!!!
but much better. and then i realize, oh, right, i forgot, i AM having a wonderful joy and then i get out of bed and make 2 cups of coffee, one for me and one for florence.

This book made the Bible and its stories more real and attainable for me. I believe that the Bible is a great book, but is even better when you know how to apply it's lessons to your life so that you can conquer any obstacle that comes your way. Ms. Shinn dedicated her life to teaching the world how to understand the Bible in a practical and easy-to-understand manner. I never realized how powerful affirmations are until I read this book. It has also taught me how to take my power and harness it in such a way that everyone, including me, benefits from it.

If my collection of books where to be burnt and I was just to keep a couple of importen books from being burnt, besides books of Ralph Waldo Emerson and a few others, THIS BOOK would absolutely be one of the books I had to save from the flamnes of the fire!!!
(I'm now looking for a wife. I would very much like her to be able to 'grasp' the content of this book (four books altogether). I think that it would make it much easier to understand each other – foremost I am thinking that it would be easier for her to understand me and "where I am at in life" spiritualy; 'in my world of metaphysics'!)

The Wisdom is written in simple terms about faith and not backed by any clinical studies, but that is what faith is all about. This book is one of my all time favorites. Twice I read it back to back and then I gave up linear reading, and many times over, I picked random spots in the book to read. Sometimes it was a phrase, other times it was a phrase or a line or entire paragraph, and more times than not these spots became points to ponder. These simple lines became very valuable lessons as I dug deeper in the meaning for myself. If you ever felt compelled to read this book I would suggest that you don't hesitate. It's a very valuable tool for any student seeking Truth. The Wisdom is comprised of four books written over a span of decades. Florence Scovel Shinn was definitely a teacher way ahead of her time, and these lessons are still as solid as the day they were written.

I met two sisters on a trip to Italy over 10 years ago when I was on a tour and travelling by myself. They were the nicest woman you ever want to have met. They were reading this book and highly recommended it to me. I had a lot of issues going on at the time. I must say 10 years later and I STILL go back and read this book. It is EXCELLENT. This is way before that silly book (which in my opinion is a rip of this) "The Secret." Florence's book is 10 times better a must have. I have even downloaded onto my eReader so that whenever I feel the need I have can always refer to it. This book and the Dali Lahma's book are the two most read books.

first of all i have to say that i don't like "self help" books at all...and i especially don't like preachy books, but even though this book has both of those elements i read it when i'm troubled and it helps to get me back on my feet. corny? yes. true? yes. it's basically the common sense that you need your friends to tell you, but sometimes they're too involved to be unbiased. that's all.

This is a must have for anyone who feels lost and wishes to find their own way. I read this book over a decade ago and am rereading it again. I am still gaining new insight from this book. I plan to reread every decade to insure that I stay focused and on my right path.

So far I am learning some of the most valuable lessons in life...Its really teaches that whatever you put into your life is what you will get out of your life...This is one that I will continue to refer back to for the rest of my life...A MUST BUY!!!!

Originally I gave this 4 stars. However after some consideration I realized this is a 5 star book, especially in the affirmation/spiritual realm. This masterpiece is broken into 4 short books, The Game of Life and How it is Played, The Spoken Word, Your Word is Your Wand and The Secret of Success. When you are reading these short stories you feel like you are transported back in time to the early 1920's. I absolutely love Florence and I still use my favorite affirmations from one of her short stories " I have a wonderful job with wonderful pay. I give wonderful service in a wonderful way." If you are looking for a good manifestation book that is a very simple read & offers plenty of good affirmations and examples of manifestation stories, then this is book for you.

Can't believe I finished the book! Been taking me a long time to finish books this year.
Well actually I am not happy about finishing it. I wish it was never ending! I've always wanted a sort of book that helps explain the Bible sentence by sentence and this one got to the gist of it. She's partial to Psalms, which i for one have been told to start with.
This compendium is actually four books in one! But I'd just say that I finished one book. She emphasized a lot on her first novel, which is the Game of Life, but tbh my absolute favourite is her third, which is 'door of success'. This one is music and poetry to me, and hardly anyone can write in a musical way that she does. Her fourth book 'your word is your wand' is good as well, and I see it as a continuation of the third. I'm not sure if that's because I only got into it during her third book!
The first book grated on me because she emphasized that to ignore something means it doesn't exist! Her third and fourth book did not do so and thus it sat better with my palate.
I didn't know there was a school of thought as 'Truth' because that's a new genre to me. I'd say that, as I know it, this book is 90%, but she's very intent on unlocking the truth you already hold.
I bought this book maybe a decade ago but never got round to reading it. I guess I could only do it now as the level of understanding that I had back then would never allow me to understand it. She's an advocate of God consciousness and intuition and because of that, now I will be divinely led to books instead of forcing myself to read some!
I'm definitely inspired 101%

Reminds me of the fool card in the tarot. It advises not to rely on your own devices, not to plan and analyze but to rely fully on divine inspiration and help!

If you don't have this book get it! This is one book that I treat like a bible - it is one of the most important books to help you in whatever situation you are in, wherever you are in life.

Florence Shinn (1871-1940) was promoting the Law of Attraction long before "The Secret" and the Abraham-Hicks books came out. Louise Hay ("You Can Heal Your Life") considered Shinn one of her greatest inspirations.
Shinn's message is clear: we can have what we want in life if we align our beliefs with having it. If we anticipate failure, we'll get failure. If we anticipate success, we'll get success. And above all, don't give your attention to what outer reality is telling you, but give it to the Universe which is the Source of all Supply. (Example: if you desperately need money by a certain day and you're completely broke, without any prospect of getting that money--*expect* to get it, and you will.)
In her books, Shinn gives countless examples of people whose mindset--not outer circumstances--brought them what they desired. Or what they *didn't* desire, but kept their attention on until they received what they didn't desire: she mentions one man who couldn't take his mind off a fatal, but very rare, disease he'd heard about. Eventually he came down with that very rare disease.
If all of this is hard to believe, keep in mind that the process works not through events but through energy flow. Essentially, we're all energy. And as we flow our energy (which we're continually doing while we're alive), whether it's positive energy or negative energy, it will attract similar energy--and *that's* what brings things into our physical experience.
I admit that, for whatever reason, this hasn't always worked in my own life. But it *has* worked many times for me. And if you read the reviews of Shinn's books on Amazon (the "verified purchase" ones), you'll find some really amazing stories of its working too--often by people who were scornful of Shinn's teachings, but when they became desperate enough, they gave it a try. And they got what they wanted.
Lots here to reflect on, and see if it works for you too. Here's one of my favorite Shinn quotes: "The first start to success is to be glad you are yourself." It's easy to see that you can't possibly have a successful life if you wish you were someone else. Yet how many people strive for success while wishing just that!

This book is a god send! It is full of wisdom and teaches you how to approach certain thoughts and situations with meaningful information you can apply on the spot. I have learned so much through Florence Scovell Shinn’s teachings that I implement her advice in my everyday life. This is a book I find myself referring to when I’m feeling lost, need a spiritual pick me up, or if I need clarity. From issues/challenges with happiness, anger, fear, and even finances this book will enlighten your subconscious to think better thoughts and approach situations with mindfulness. We are our own creators of our reality. What we think about and how we think about things manifest into our physical realm. Through the power of positive thinking and expectancy along with a great amount of faith we can live a life full of blessings. For those who take interest in the law of attraction, this would be an excellent book to add to your collection. Don’t be weary of her examples she uses from biblical scripture as it only aids in the understanding that if you want something in your life you will get it. Take or leave what you want from this book, however, I assure you that you will be taking way more than you than you think!

I deeply believe this book will come to those who are ready for it and able to deeply understand and benefit from it. Absolutely lovely and practical. Whether you are a biblical scholar or not, her way of re-framing life is commonsense and helpful.
It has also made me really think about how we look at the world as a whole. I know this book is meant to be used by individuals, but I pondered how nations, communities, and most especially media could use this re-framing as well. What if we collectively focus on divinely-guided action? What then?

The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn is timeless wisdom. Her classic approach, clarity in expression and the help her books give divert the reader away from fears, scarcity, and limiting consciousness into peaceful abundance, authentic truths, and beautiful awareness.
I recommend all of her books, this one is wonderful and extremely beneficial.

...think about what you are thinking about. Be deliberate. Persistent. And, let go. You do your part and allow God to do His. See what happens. Classic and I read it in less than 2 days. I enjoy the English grammar/ language from the early 20th century; clearly, it's still relevant today.
