unambitious but well written and interesting, with lots of my favourite historical sources/anecdotes. worth reading.

Sadly this is only a popular, rapid, superficial summary of Chinese script. It gives too little time to the characters themselves and their origins and too much to superficial topics such as the scripts of other languages in China.
