A Family Made at Christmas

After taking guardianship of his late friend’s siblings and baby daughter, minister Levi Wallin hopes to atone for his troubled past on the gold fields. But it won’t be easy to convince the children’s wary elder sister to trust him. But she can tell he’s hiding something from her, and she refuses to risk her heart with secrets between them. Even as they grow closer, will their pasts keep them from claiming this unexpected new beginning?

This has been a wonderful series and I've enjoyed following the Wallin family as each member finds love. Levi's story is one of redemption as he tries to make up for the mistakes of his past and learns about forgiveness. His match with Callie is perfect as he partners with her to care for her brothers and baby niece, and they grow to depend on each other emotionally as well. Their romance grows sweetly and Callie helps Levi overcome his struggles. She also learns to accept her differences and see that she is loved and respected for who she is. Her rascally twin brothers are funny and their shenanigans show the patience and compassion Levi and Callie have for them. The holiday setting brings warmth to the story as well as the family devotion shared by all the Wallins. There is a bit of a mystery with the death of Callie's older brother, two strange miners hanging around, and ransackings of Callie's old home and Levi's church.

I really enjoyed this latest book from Regina Scott! It’s Christmasy and romantic and it has a very sweet (and important) message.

First – I have to talk about the kids. Frisco and Sutter and sweet little Mica. These kids are adorable! Even the boys in their own precocious, rambunctious way. Their fierce protectiveness of their family, their boyish energy, and their ultimately tender hearts (masked by manly gruffness of course) made me smile every time they stole a scene.

Callie – oh how I wanted to just give her a huge hug. She’s been through so much and carried so many burdens that, when someone else shows up to carry them for a while, she doesn’t know how to relax and just ‘be’, nor even how to rest in a friendship. And the delightful Wallin family is full of potential friendships! Callie’s insecurities are in juxtaposition to her inner strength, and this makes her a very layered and inspiring character. And the subplot about reading! Ah! Be still my heart.

Levi is a reformed rogue turned preacher (that seems to be a theme today) with a big heart. He’s also currently fighting a losing battle when it comes to his feelings for Callie. I loved watching him fall in love! And learn to be an uncle-dad! So swoony. It’s also here, in Levi’s preacher capacity, that the author is able to weave some very sweet spiritual truth into the story. Namely – that we are more precious than God to the One who loves us best, that we are more than the sum of our past, and that He has come that we might be forgiven.

Bottom Line: His Frontier Christmas Family is delightful in every way. It will hit you in all the feels and leave your heart cozy warm and Christmasy. Swoony romance, adorable kids, and a large lovable family make this the ideal wintry weekend reaad!

His Frontier Christmas Family was a cute Christmas read. I've really been enjoying this series and cannot wait to read the next one (about Beth!).

I enjoyed getting to know Callie and her family. The romance was sweet and seemed to progress naturally. The danger aspect was a little lackluster, but the story didn't really need suspense - it was good just with the characters and romance.

All in all, a good story and I recommend the series to fans of sweet romance stories.

What a sweet and festive addition to the Frontier Bachelors series! This book can be read as a stand alone novel, yet ties in beautifully with the other books preceding it.

It is a tale of burdens, regrets, and guilt, as well as one of new beginnings, love, and family. I thought that this sweet story flowed nicely. I appreciated seeing things through Callie’s eyes. She and her two brothers were not raised in high society, or even middle class society. They grew up at various gold panning camps and their existence was a rough one. It was interesting to see what things they were surprised or confused about, as well as watch them as they began to understand that the Wallin family was happy to have them as part of the community.

Levi’s backstory was also very interesting. Having read the other books in the series, I was familiar with Levi. How much he had grown! Not only into a man, but into a man who worked to share God’s word and love to all people. However, he also had things to overcome in this novel that related to past decisions he had made. Levi carried quite the burden of guilt.

His Frontier Christmas Family had so many great Christmas and winter scenes in it. This was the perfect read for the holiday season.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book takes a good look at the gold-rush era and the lives of the people and their families. I loved learning of the hardships they faced, also how the zeal for gold overtook many people sensibilities.

This book is part of a series that can be read as a stand-alone. It looks at the life and romance of Levi and Callie. Two people who were worlds apart in their upbringing thrown together by tragedy.

Callie is a young woman who has labored to hold her brothers and niece together while her brother is trying to bring home riches through panning gold. She is strong, determined, and smart. A preacher, Levi, brings word that her brother has passed and they are to become wards of said preacher. Her life is uprooted and changed, something that is hard for a strong independent young woman.

I found this book to be about trust, forgiveness, and adaptation. It is a clean book with Christian themes. There is also an adorable baby and precocious twins.

'God knew how far Levi had fallen. It would be a long time before he felt himself worthy of respect again.'

Regina Scott gives us the last Wallin brother's story in this Frontier Bachelor series. Levi Wallin is hoping to atone for his mistakes on the gold fields when he returns home to Wallin's Landing. He has assumed guardianship of his late friend's family: his sister, twin brothers and baby. Callie is very wary of Levi and has not one bit of trust for him, but sees no way but allowing him to take care of them. Every man in her life has chased gold and forsaken their familial responsibilities, so why should another be different.

She finds out that the Wallin family is the real deal, though, totally loving and wanting to help her and her little family. Still she's wary because she senses Levi is keeping a truth from her. She is definitely not going to risk her heart with a man like this.

Regina Scott is a favorite at my house. I love her books. She writes convincingly, creates believable characters and situations and includes a wonderful spiritual element. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Wallin family. And there is one more Wallin sibling left, too! I am eagerly looking forward to Beth Wallin's story.

*My thanks to the author and publisher for a preview copy of this book. My opinions stated here are entirely my own.

It's been a while since I've last visited the Wallin family and I enjoyed getting to know the youngest brother Levi in this story!

He's made mistakes in the past, ones that he deeply regrets. And ones he wishes to make up for! Taking guardianship of Callie and her siblings is one way he wants to atone for his past sins. Vowing to care for and provide for them, he does all he can to keep that promise. In the process, his heart tangles with that of Callie. He's afraid to get close to her because he's sure once she's found out what he did, she will never love or forgive him.

Callie has always had to scrape for the necessary things in life; food, clothing, shelter. Now that she's taking care of her siblings and her brother's passing, it's even harder. When help comes in the form of Levi, can she trust him to keep his promise of partnership? And with the big loving Wallin family, she finds herself lacking. Can they show her that in the eyes of God and them (especially Levi), that she's a treasure worthy of love?

I found this story to be full of faith, forgiveness, and new beginnings. More importantly, a reminder that God loves us in spite of our past mistakes. A heartwarming Christmas themed story that's sure to please fans of Regina Scott and the whole Wallin clan!

"She'd been ready to hand him her heart. He couldn't see the light of their love because he was too focused on the dark of the past."

His Frontier Christmas Family (2017, Love Inspired Historical), seventh in the Frontier Bachelors series by Regina Scott, is a standalone historical Christian romance set in 1874 Washington Territory. The cranberry binding of this retired line of books signals to me that it's my favorite subgenre - Christian historical romance. A couple of months ago, in November when I was looking for a Christmas-y book, I happily went to my cranberry colored shelf! I didn't realize this book was the seventh in a series, but it didn't matter.

Rating: 4.5 stars

Is it clean/chaste? Yes!
Other content issues? None. Very wholesome. G rated,
Christian publication? Yes, I would call this Love Inspired story Christian fiction.
Any reference to God or the Bible? Yes. "Being able to read opens doors. Opportunities for employment, for learning more about our Lord through the Bible, for broadening our minds. Let me give you that."

The premise: California Murphy lives miles away from Seattle, isolated, with no method of transportation available to her, bearing the burden of caring for three young children: Sutter's Mill Murphy and San Francisco Murphy - her much younger eight-year-old twin brothers - and Mica - her brother Adam's little girl, still a baby. Callie's been keeping the household going for months on Adam's homestead, long awaiting his return. Starting with her father, Callie's family has lived a life of gold prospecting. Her parents have passed, as well as Callie's sister-in-law - little Mica's mother, and now Callie is filling the role of mother to both her niece and her younger brothers.

The heroine: Callie is a no-nonsense kind of woman, not quick to trust, used to rough mountain-living, both within the gold camps and far from civilization. I felt much compassion when she went foraging, came up with very little, and made soup for herself and the children. I've read about this level of poverty in stories, but I cannot imagine living it out.

"I'm sorry, Miss Murphy. Adam won't make it back in time. He died three months ago.

The hero: Levi Wallin, a gold prospector-turned minister, brings Callie the news that her brother has, in fact, perished. Levi promised Adam that he would care for them. He packs the Murphys up and takes them to his home in Wallin Landing. His church is a close-knit community, including many Wallin family members. The sweet Wallins are the basis for this book series.

What I liked:

*In the same line are characters Tom, Dick, and Harry. Too funny.

*The characters were very realistic and likable.

*The romance was not instantaneous. Good job, Ms. Scott.

What I didn’t like:

*I could tell that there were references being made to characters in previous books in the series. It was done well, but for some reason, it always rubs me the wrong way when I identify previous characters without having read previous books. Maybe because it makes me more conscious that I'm reading a book?

The bottom line: This is a nice comfortable read for anyone who would enjoy an American historical romance set at Christmas time. The Christmas theme was done well - not overdone or underdone. The same can be said for the Christian elements. I look forward to reading more by Regina Scott.

MY REVIEW
To continue on with the Wallin family, the story is just as good as the previous ones in this series. Regina kept me interested and wanting to read late into the night! The Wallin family is one welcoming, loving family and forgiving family, willing to help anyone. Truly a wonderful Christmas story about hardship, learning from your mistakes and forgiveness. You don't have to read the series in order but you will enjoy the books more if you do.

There is nothing like reading a Christmas story to get you in the holiday spirit and His Frontier Christmas Family does just that!

In this installment of the Frontier Bachelor series, protagonist Levi Wallin is now a grown man and the preacher of Wallin Landing. When he receives a letter asking him to take care of a friend’s family, he says yes without hesitation.

Callie Murphy has had to shoulder the world by herself in order to care for her twin brothers and her niece, and when Levi enters her life it takes some time for her to get used to the idea of someone helping her.

Throughout the book, you learn more and more about Levi’s past and Callie’s childhood, taking you on a journey to see if two people can overcome the hardships and trials of the past to find joy and love for the future.

Regina Scott is an amazing author. Every one of her books draws me in and leaves me eagerly awaiting the next release. If you enjoy heartwarming books, especially ones with the Christmas spirit, His Frontier Christmas Family will not disappoint!

A sweet holiday story that deals with romance and redemption!

I really enjoyed the 7th story of the Wallin Frontier Bachelors! I haven't (yet!) read the first six, but had no problem following along with things here--plus, saw just enough of the other six couples (and Beth--surely their sister is getting her own story, yes? It's definitely hinted at here, and I can't wait!) to prompt me to add them to my TBR.

In the meantime, though, Callie and Levi's story in His Frontier Christmas Family is a feel-good story that both puts you in the holiday spirit and inspires you to want to hold your own family members just a little bit closer--a perfect read for this time of year! Callie, Levi, Sutter, Frisco, and Mica are all highly likable characters who it's easy to root and cheer for (even when those twins are getting into mischief!)

This book is like a warm, fuzzy blanket on a cold winter night. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy insides and covers you with hope for better days. Callie is struggling with raising her rambunctious twin brothers and her niece When God sends hope in Levi, who is her appointed ward. Callie struggles with trust and watching her grow and have dreams again is so heartwarming. Levi is a reformed prodigal and is now a minister who needs to learn how to forgive himself and open his heart to the love God has provided. Throw in Christmas, romance, a little intrigue, and snowy days and you have the makings for a perfect Christmas story.

His Frontier Christmas Family is book seven from Regina Scott's Frontier Bachelors series. I have read several of the books in this series and I believe this one is my favorite. It is a sweet and heartwarming story. I do have to admit I was like Callie and not sure what I thought of Levi at first but that quickly changed when I kept reading. I enjoyed watching Levi and Callie grow throughout.
I give His Frontier Christmas Family 5 stars and recommend it for those who love a good historical with a Christmas theme.

"His Frontier Christmas Family" is book 7 of 8 in Regina Scott's Frontier Bachelor series. Overall, it was an okay read... a bit dry and slow moving, with not a whole lot going on.

I will be re-reading book #8 - "Frontier Matchmaker Bride" next... and then I can say and/or have bragging rights to have successfully read my way through yet another lengthy Love Inspired Historical series... phew! :D

Levi was asked to take guardianship of his late friend's baby and young siblings, but met his match in much older sister Callie who has been caring for them all for years. Romance ensues. I liked both families, and it turns out I was much too cynical for the subplot, ha. I realized as I was reading that I'd read an earlier book in this series, about Nora and Simon, which was fun. I think I'll track down Beth's story, too.

His Frontier Christmas Family is a sad, but such a sweet story. Now how can that be? Well sad because you have Callie who has two brothers, twins, Frisco and Sutter and her niece Mica that she has been taking care of by herself while her other brother Adam, Mica's father is off gold-digging. Then something catastrophic happens - in walks Levi the preacher which is sweet because he offers to help out the family when the family is in need, very big need. This book can break your heart 1 minute and make your heart soar and feel so sweet and happy the next. This is a definite must-read. Will the preacher be able to get through to the family? Or shall I say will the LORD get through to the family through the preacher? As Callie held a squirming baby Mica, Levi positioned the sled, then nodded to Frisco and Sutter to climb on. Once the boys had scrambled into place, he pulled back slightly.
“One, two,” he started.
“Three!” Frisco shouted, and Levi pushed.
They shot down the hill. He had barely straightened before they had reached the bottom and spun to a stop. Leaping off the sled, they looked up at him expectantly.
Wind whipped past Levi’s cheeks as they flew down the hill. The trees, the snow, everything became a blur, until it was only him and Callie, dashing through the snow. Her laughter tickled his chest as she shouted against the air. He wrapped his arms around her and hung on.

I am not sure what I loved most about this story; the developing, fragile relationship between Levi Wallin and the Murphy family, the new faith in God and trust in the people around her that was growing in Callie's heart, the romantic feelings that were developing between Callie and Levi, the Walling and Murphy families, the community that pulled together, or the redemption and forgiveness of the past transgression that was so evident in the story.
I started this story in the evening, thinking I was going to just read just a bit and ended up inhaling the story and reading until the wee hours of the morning to finish it. This is an unputdownable book, just get comfortable and enjoy it.
Levi and Callie were characters that I fell in love with. It is so easy to relate to them. Their imperfections highlighting their positive sides, their humbleness and loyalty shining through. The patience Levi had - to show and teach the Murphys the new and exciting life, talents, and tasks - was admirable. The love that was evident in each scene just gave me all the warm feels.
Callie had so many disappointments and setbacks in her young life yet that had just made her tough, capable, and able to take care of the family to the best of her abilities. The new life with the Wallins was as exciting as it was scary, her dreams were coming true and Callie wasn't sure if she deserved them or could trust them to be true and lasting.
Levi was sure his past actions, before becoming the man of God, didn't allow him to have the feelings that were growing inside his heart towards Callie. While teaching her about faith in God, he learns a lesson of forgiveness himself.
The connection between Levi and Callie is palpable, natural, and tight. They learn to work as partners to raise the Murphy kids and are building a life together, making a family, even before they realize it themselves.
A beautiful story about family, love, forgiveness, and faith in God with a touch of Christmas traditions and lots of cheer in a frontier town back in time

Returning to Wallin Landing is like visiting old friends and meeting new ones. This latest installment is no different, despite the somewhat bittersweet idea of a grown Levi. Thankfully, after some poor choices and tough consequences, the youngest Wallin brother is now a minister and on the right track.

Callie is the newest visitor to the town, and she has faced many difficult situations on her own. Raising her brothers and niece, the idea of depending on another is tempting but dangerous, given how everyone else in her life has ultimately left. When she arrives under Levi’s care, the family welcomes her openly, but Callie is afraid to trust and get her heart broken again.

Trust and honesty play a very important part in this storyline—in partnerships in the goldfield and in life. Some of my favorite moments are when another part of the truth comes out; seeing how the individual characters respond with grace and mercy is both heartwarming and encouraging.

I really enjoyed this book—not much of a surprise given that I have liked the previous ones, but with each novel, the growing family becomes more real to me. Each member’s story fleshes out the other people, too, and the brief updates are like catching up with those we haven’t seen in a while.
After hundreds of pages, I wouldn’t think there was much left to share about the Wallins, but every time a new book comes out, I’m like a kid at Christmas again, eagerly opening the cover and diving in to discover something delightful.

This is the perfect Christmas read, especially for those who have enjoyed the Frontier Bachelors series before. But those who have not read the previous books will still find a warm Christmas story, filled with family, faith, and love. I recommend it highly for fans of historical fiction.

Callie was destitute, struggling and had lost nearly everything because of the California Gold Rush insanity. She had learned to trust very few, ad only after they have proven themselves. now she is approached by a stranger claiming to have a message from her brother. He seems to have the right answers, but can she really trust him? She soon realized she had no choice but to pack up their few belongings and go with him.
Although a preacher now, Levi had made some really bad choices and one he would pay the rest of his life for in hopes of redemption when he met his maker. He owed Callie's brother a debt he know hoped, in part, to repay. He needed Callie and the twins to know they could trust him and depend on him to help them.
When Callie arrived at Wallin Landing and met a few people, she was immediately certain she would be laughed at and never "fit in". But soon she realized the opposite was true. What could she offer to repay their kindness?
This is a delightful, uplifting tale of new beginnings, forgiveness, redemption, self-awareness, and greed.
It is also an insight to the California Gold Rush days and the affects it had on lives.
This is a perfect story to begin the Yuletide Season.
It earns a Five Stars Rating

Every single man in Callie's life has abandoned her or broken a promise. Now she's left caring for her younger siblings and her little orphan niece. When a minister named Levi shows up claiming to be her brother's friend and niece's guardian, she's scared. But with no other options, she joins him at his home for Christmas. When strange things start happening, Levi must confront his past and help solve the mystery before Callie is taken from him.

This was a nice addition to the series. I've read book 5 and 6 so I had a little idea of the concept of the town the families were creating and how Levi fit into the story. I don't really think it works well as a stand-alone. I would recommend starting from the beginning. I enjoyed the plot and the little bit of suspense the author wove into the story. I had a hard time connecting to the main characters, but the children stole the show. Overall, this was a fun story, but not my favorite by this author.

Neither of them quite know what they are in for....

As Christmas decorations start going up, carols begin making their appearance on the radio and in stores, and peppermint everything is on the menu. For readers it's time to settle back, inside where it's warm, of course, and dive into a little seasonal reading. Which, is exactly what I did over the wet Thanksgiving holiday.

His Frontier Christmas Family was such a sweet historical romance and a totally fun read! Regina Scott has crafted a delightful tale of love and family, of finding forgiveness and finding a place to call home. I truly fell in love with the heroine's precocious little brothers as they provided some real laugh-out-loud moments with their crazy antics.

This is my first book in this series, and by this author, but I don't think it will be my last. I enjoyed my jaunt with the Murphy and Wallin clans! If you are looking for a good Christmas story to read this holiday season check out His Frontier Christmas Family.

His Frontier Christmas Family by Regina Scott
Frontier Bachelors Series Book Seven
Levi Wallin has regrets. He left Wallin Landing with his friend, Scout, about seven years ago. They were going to strike it rich in the gold rush. Levi had thought he'd be respected more when he came home wealthy. Instead, he lost respect for himself. Helping the Murphy's should help in his redemption...he hopes.

Callie Murphy hates the gold fields and gold fever. She's lost so much because of it. Now, she's raising her twin brothers and her niece. On her own. And she doesn't need any preacher or his perfect family to help her.

When Levi comes to offer the Murphy's his guardianship...he's getting more than he could have ever imagined. Another fantastic adventure with the Wallins and Wallin Landing.

I really enjoyed this story getting to know the youngest Wallin better. We've read about Levi in the other Wallin stories and now become familiar with some of his decisions and the consequences. Callie is a strong heroine who slowly learns how to open her heart, not just to Levi, but to those around her. Regina does a great job at a gradual transition that is naturally paced rather than a sudden turnaround.

While it was easy to predict who was causing trouble and the why, I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and the decisions Levi and Callie make for their future, which also contributed to making this story feel more real world. I can't wait to read Beth's story!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

Orphaned and impoverished, Callie Murphy has dealt with her fair share of heartache. When she gets the news that her older brother Adam has died while away panning for gold, she finds herself alone with her young twin brothers and baby niece to care for. Pastor Levi Wallin, who delivers this devastating news, offers to take her and her family in and care for them, though she’s naturally suspicious. Can he be trusted? And can they find a new life in his hometown of Wallin Landing?

I really enjoyed reading this sweet, heart-warming story. I could hardly put it down! Every time I read one of the Wallin family stories, I feel like I’m right there among the caring hearts and welcoming atmosphere of Wallin Landing.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is book seven in the Frontier Bachelors series. It is a stand alone book, yet you will miss some of the history in the Wallin family. It is not necessary to read them all to understand this one but the few I have read in this series are great books.

Callie Wallin has had enough with people panning for gold, when she must trust the handsome ex panner will it really be out of his blood?

Levi Wallin must learn to forgive himself to truly find happiness. When Callie and her family are thrust upon him there is much to learn.

I enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading more from this series.

His Frontier Christmas Family a Frontier Bachelors series by Regina Scott. Levi Wallin's friend Adam died and left a note for Levi to take care of his younger 20 year old sister and 8 year old twin brothers and Adam's baby girl. Levi takes Callie Murphy to a small town called Wallin. Callie feels she can take care of herself and family, but right now she needed help. The twins are a handful. The Murphy family fits in great in the town of Wallin and everyone who lives there. Romance happens between Levi and Callie. A funny and touching story takes place in 1874. Claim jumpers, kidnapping and back history.

His Frontier Family

The book kept getting better and better the more I read of it. Love the children in the book, especially the twins. Callie is taking care of her family while her brother is off trying to strike if rich panning for gold. Levi comes to tell her Adam past away and he is going to be their guardian and takes them to his family. Loved his family, his sister trying to play matchmaker for Callie to different ones. Loved that there was a Christmas play in the book. I received an advanced copy of the book from the author.

clean romance

A well written story about discovery of self and true treasures.

Regina Scott writes well developed characters and plot lines to keeps a reader engaged. She creates worlds that invite you in and you share the life of the characters.

This stand alone book in a wonderful series holds its own but I find reading the other books in the series adds a whole different perspective to all the characters.

I look forward to reading the next book in the series!
