Tim and Susannah have ordinary lives on the surface, he’s a mortician for whom death is a serious business, and she’s a chef who really knows her way around a knife, and if the neighbors in their small Midwestern town knew of her dark hobby, they’d run for the hills.

Raised by an apathetic mother and a cruel father, Susannah was bullied and pushed to her breaking point long before she met mild-mannered Tim, and learned to channel her murderous impulses into a strange form of art, which keeps her clueless husband safe…for now.

As strange events occur, and Susannah’s eccentric behavior becomes more dynamic, Tim starts to wonder about his wife. Will he be too perceptive for his own good?

This twisted, psychological, serial killer thriller will sear your psyche and rattle your soul. Buckle up, you’re in for a terrifying ride.

No, just NO!

Abandoning this at 10%. I just can't stand this. The author writes in superlatives. Everything is overdramatised. I just can't do it!

DISCLOSURE: Thank you to S Prescott Thrillers via NetGalley for the opportunity to read The Quiet Type by Summer Prescott. Unfortunately it's just not for me. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own personal opinions.

My first d-n-f of 2024.

**** 4 "Special Leaves" Stars ****

What happens when a young girl is treated with hate and disgust from everyone in her life, from teachers, to class mates, to strangers to even her parents, especially daddy dearest???

Revenge!!!! That is what happens.

Susannah will take you on a wild ride inside her mind where things seem normal but normal is so far from the truth. But her normal is what keeps her functioning in a life she just doesn't quite fit in.

LOVED this book!! I love a quite but DOMINATING woman!!!

This an entertaining serial killer story with plenty of body horror. I enjoyed the grosser aspects of this novel. Huge trigger warnings for anyone sensitive to harm to animals.

A chilling look into the mind of a serial killer who has no regrets or remorse and only lives for the thrill of killing again. Susannah was a Culinary Arts major and Tim was in Mortuary School when they met in the Cadaver Lab at school. Both were withdrawn introverts who forged a bond and a relationship that led them to marry and move to Pellman, Michigan where Tim opened a mortuary and funeral home and Susannah went to work as a chef's assistant in the only fine dining restaurant in the area. Everything seems to be going well until the blood lust seizes control again and the killer starts preying on more victims. Told from the different viewpoints of both Susannah and Tim this is an enthralling read that will leave you chilled to the bone but unable to stop reading! A twisted tale of revenge and hate taken to the ultimate step of killing another living human being! Serial killing at its deadliest best make this a Must Read book!

Deliciously Dark and Twisted Thriller… One of the Best I've Ever Read

For the second time in its first two thrillers published – this time by phenomenally talented mystery and suspense author Summer Prescott herself – S Prescott Thrillers (a division of Summer Prescott Books Publishing) has released a truly dark and disturbing serial killer thriller that's guaranteed to give its readers nightmares for a long time to come – in other words, the perfect thriller. Definitely not for the faint of heart, and clearly recommended for suspense and thriller readers who love their fiction on the dark side, "The Quiet Type" is an extremely tightly plotted full-length novel with totally complex and multidimensional characters that will keep its readers on the edge of their seats from the very first word to the very last. You just never know what will happen next, and, until you've completely read the whole book, you won't be able to stop reading until you've read every single last word. (Even given the many complexities of life that can arise unexpectedly and interrupt reading time, I had to read this book through from beginning to end over the course of the first 12 hours of its existence simply because I could not put it down, and I just had to know "what happens next".

Telling the gripping and engrossing story of Tim and Susannah, a seemingly typical and quiet Midwest couple (to him being a very introverted mortician who takes his work extremely seriously, and Susannah being an extremely talented chef at a local restaurant, having a troubled past and a most unusual – and quite dark – artistic hobby), "The Quiet Type" is definitely one of the most terrifying serial killer thrillers I've ever read. Amidst a host of troubling events and untimely deaths that surface in their small Midwestern town, while doing his best to peacefully maintain his business as the local mortician and to protect his reputation thereabouts, eventually Tim begins to question whether his wife (Susannah) is really the quiet culinary expert (chef) and recreational artist she appears to be on the surface. Soon Tim realizes that there's far more he'll need to protect than just his mortuary business and his reputation – he'll need to protect his life.

"The Quiet Type" – which clearly illustrates what a phenomenal multitalented author Summer Prescott truly is – will keep readers glued to the edge of their seats all the way through this delectably dark and delicious new novel. Just as with her awesome and amazing cozy mysteries, this first thriller novel shows how widespread this extremely gifted author is throughout the mystery and suspense genre. And the really exciting news – at least for myself anyway – is that, by the end of this exceptional novel, readers are left with the promise of hope for future books yet to come about Tim and Susanna Eckels. I can hardly wait for these books to be written and published, because, if "The Quiet Type" is any indication of things to come and additional thrillers yet to be written, then clearly Summer Prescott has found as much (and as welcome) a home as a thriller author as she already is writing her wonderful cozy mysteries. This book is an absolute must-read for anybody who loves and exceptionally well-written, dark and disturbing serial killer thriller with well-crafted and truly well-rounded characters, uptight plot, and plenty of extremely suspenseful and gripping twists and turns throughout the book. While clearly intended for a more mature audience than her cozy mysteries, without a doubt, this phenomenal book is definitely Summer Prescott at her undeniable absolute writing best. I simply cannot highly recommend it enough… In fact, my only regret is that I'm only able to give it a rating of five stars, because it truly deserves a whole lot more than that…

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book, when I wasn't feeling totally grossed out! I honestly thought Tim was going to freak me out more than Susannah, but I actually liked Tim alot. This story ramps up the suspense and intensity with each chapter and I like the way the story ended. Book 2? I highly recommend this captivating thriller!

I think I turned more picky over the years, definitely with thrillers. Why this book average rating is a 4.4 is beyond me, this story was so damn bad, nothing about this book was interesting. The story came across as very cheesy, it was far from thrilling, more like a mundane puzzle that you will get tired of solving.

Usually I disagree with the majority, so I am not surprised that I found this book to be very flat. No characterization, no consistency and I was too annoyed to even reach the conclusion.

I am not the 'quiet type' reviewing book, more like a scary monster who is always brutally honest with book reviews.

Oh well, another one that bites the dust, ground and cement.

NEXT!!!

The Quiet Type is a story about a young girl who was verbally abused by her father for being overweight. After years of this verbal abuse, Susannah decides enough is enough and kills her father by poisoning him. Susannah was so enthralled by the dying process she decides to continue killing.
This book is a thriller like you have never read.
Author Chelsea Cain writes about a female serial killer and when I saw another author decided to write about the same I had to read it. Susannah is as twisted as they come and will have you cringing and wanting to cover your eyes to stop the images that will pop into your head.
The secondary characters are great and really help support the story line.
You may just start liking a character and Susannah may decide it's their time to die.
This is a must read!

Female serial killer books are always a good read because they're *different*, but Prescott writes a good, creepy book regardless of the sex of the killer. Though at times it felt rushed the story kept me engaged.

I can hardly put into words my thoughts of this book. It was fascinating, intriguing and creepy all at the same time. It is so nice to finally learn about Tim's past. A lot of questions have been answered.

Absolutely thrilling!

So it's really nice to see Tim's story but this is not a cozy! Timothy has always been one of my favorite characters, even going back to the Key West series, especially since he has crossed over series in such a dramatic way. I also hope that this book has a sequel, I need to know what happens to Susanah, I need to know she gets caught. This book was amazing! Well written, thrilling, creepy yet still only makes Tim more endearing. Great book!

Totally Blown Away!

I've read numerous books by this author but never any in this genre. I've never been disappointed in the way each book unfurled with tight plotting and character development that makes you want to sit and chat. This book has all that and more . I read this book in one sitting, using just couldn't put it down!

when the talk of this book started, I did not think I would be interested, as I do not care much for scary books. But glad I read The Quiet Type, to get the back ground on Timothy, now we know. I would like to see more!

Amazing!!!!

Wow is the 1st thing I have to say. This book is absolutely jaw dropping amazing. This is the story of Tim Eckels, who is a recurring character in 2 of Summer Prescott's cozy series. The book is dark and disturbing and I hope to see more thrillers from Summer. To say I enjoyed the book is an understatement, I loved it!!!!! I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily giving an honest review.

Leaf Me Be

Tim is a quiet introvert who keeps to himself and has no friends until he meets the one person in the entire world who just might be the only person to be as quiet as him. Is Susannah as quiet and introverted as Tim or does she keep secrets he could never believe or fathom from him. This is the first thriller by Summer Prescott Cozy author extraodaire. She's done it again and deserves way more than five stars. Seriously is there anything this woman can't write?!?

Scary Good!

Wow! What a book!! This is a good read that will leave you feeling a little creeped out and waiting to do what happens next! Even though this is a thriller, it fits in perfectly with the INNcredibly Sweet series by Summer Prescott. It's the backstory for the mortician turned coroner Timothy Eckles.

The Quiet Type is a superb book that will leave you wanting more. The backstory of Timothy Eckles is a great read and really let's you see why he is who he is. I love all of Summer Prescott's books a and this one is just as good as the rest, if not better. I would love to read more thrillers by Ms Prescott in the future.

I LOVED The Quiet Type and this book is anything but QUIET. This thriller explores the lives of Tim and Susannah. Tim is a quiet mortician and Susannah, well Susannah is a Serial Killer. YES! You read that right. OH how I do love a great serial killer thriller and this one is done SO well.

This psychological thriller featuring a female serial killer took me on the ride of my life and I loved every minute. I could not put it down!

If you want to delve even more into Tim and Susannah, I HIGHLY recommend the follow up book The Killing Girl.

I enjoyed the crossover of the Timothy Eckel's character from Summer Prescott's other series'. I liked hearing his horrid back story and about his life as a small town mortician. People who enjoy being inside the head of dangerous serial killer will enjoy this dark, twisted tale.
