So the end of this volume seriously still has me holding my breath. No harm better come to Nina or I’m going to freak out. Also, can we please finally act on this sexual tension between Roy and Nina? Thanks!
Putting the same review for the first three volumes since I read them back to back. I couldn't put this down. It's a typical paranormal romance manga and I loved it. The characters are just so incredible! Each one has a unique personality and amazing character growth in some way. It's just so adorable to watch these characters live their lives and build friendships and maybe romantic relationships.
Beasts of Abigaile is a manga series about a girl who gets turned into a part-human part-wolf hybrid. But the humans who live in the kingdom have enslaved the wolf people, and now Nina must go to a prison-like school on Abigaile Island with the other wolf children to learn how to be an obedient slave. That school is much like a typical high school, and has all kinds of high school drama, but with the added layer of werewolf life.
Volume 3 is really about whether Nina has been accepted into werewolf society. She has to wear a special perfume, because otherwise the luga (werewolves) will smell that she’s human. But when Nina’s perfume is stolen, she’ll find out where she really stands, and if her friends will like her now that they know her secret. They’ve been hurt very badly by the humans, and so the real question is whether they’ll hold it against Nina that she was once one of them.
This is the first book in the series where I really started to like Roy, the alpha male werewolf/probable love interest who turned Nina into a wolf in the first place. In the other books, I thought he was an ass, but here, we see him give Nina the chance to prove herself. And I had thought that Giles (the nicer werewolf guy) was a good person because of the way he looked out for Nina in earlier books, but my impression of him is somewhat changed.
This is also the book where we figure out the secret of the student council, which leaves off on a giant cliffhanger.
I can’t get enough of this manga and the next one does’t come out till fall! Whatsoever shall I do??????
In this volume we get to see Roy the bad boy's soft side and Gilles the good boy looking tragic. Honestly I'd be happiest if this love triangle ended in polyamory, but I feel like Gilles has eyes for someone else. I'm not sure about that relationship yet. Eva got redeemed. (Although, she's lowkey transphobic, so her ass needs to get that sorted). Her obsession with Roy makes more sense. I'm glad she wasn't left to be the raging girlfriend(?)/ girl who's only motivation is liking a dude. I feel like any issues I have are quickly resolved (minus of course the whole timeline thing, but that's whatever). I love all these characters. I absolutely adore Nina. And the story got a little darker, which is delicious.
Nina had her perfume stolen and though others have found out, Roy tells her to prove herself that she's not like the other humans. They get in trouble but once Angelica the student council president invites Nina. Nina becomes hypnotized by Angelica and she doesn't seem herself anymore. I wonder how she will overcome this problem and how the other Luga will see her not as herself. I think that this story, throughout is all wonderful and unique in it's own way. I love each character and the plot how well it can make you want to read more. I give this book a 5 star because the ending makes me want to get the rest of the volumes. the romance and comedy too.
Dario is such a doll! Love them so much 💗 Loyal characters are always my favorite. Doesn't hurt that they are ✨ fabulous ✨
Nina is so sweet and I really like her character! She has strong beliefs and doesn't compromise on them even when everyone around her encourages her to accept things as they are. She is the trigger for the change in those around her, giving Dario and Gilles hope and as seen in this Volume, Poe courage. Poe always runs away or accepts what's given to him. Until now that is. We see for the first time, Poe take a stance when Nina is in danger, fighting to protect her. Her presence has irrevocably changed who he is, because he now has something that is deeply important to him, more than his painting.
Now Roy again...I hate to say it but I'm beginning to like him a bit. I am mad that he couldn't control Eva and his pack as well as I thought he would, which has led to unfortunate incidents, and how he has treated Nina since the beginning. But. In this Vol, we see more of Roy and his soft side, he openly admits that Nina is not the enemy here despite his reservations on giving her his trust. The whole 'we need to share body heat' trope takes place (Author I really want to know what Disney song you listened to while working on it lol) and he helps her when she's clearly sick and cold. Not to mention he's the one who saved her in the first place when no one else took the initiative to. And now I know Giles is there, but come on we all know he's just there to prop up Roy and give conflict about who Nina will choose. As a reader I have to say I prefer Roy, because he looks out for Nina and her safety multiple times, especially in this Vol. Giles already has something going on the with the student council president, and not something he's willing to let go of. The president even mentions Nina reminding her of her past self, which makes me even more wary of Giles. I just can't trust love interests whoses exes are compared somehow to the MC. Just gives me the ick.
But Roy, while continuously ragging on Nina being human, also doesn't seem to understand the full scope of what that means. He tries to stop her from going to The presidents tea party, because he knows nothing good will come of it. But his reasoning that she must to so because "he claimed her" is the wrong way to go about it. She was raised human, and is at the moment is part human, the weight of a "claim" doesn't mean much to her, and instead just comes off patronizing. I saw it the same way, and so I'm glad she stood up for herself and set a boundary, but also like GIRL COME ON ITS A CLEAR TRAP!!!! Just this once, I do kinda wish she had listened to Roy....
I'm was so happy to see the scene with Roy, Nina and the little lugas. Was so cute. It cleared up a bit what lugas view as 'playing' which puts Vol 2 into perspective. Simultaneously, it was a heartbreaking scene, knowing the current future and present for these children. The more I read of this series the more I see parallels to real life colonizations of people, and the structures put in place to reaffirm it. What Roy is doing is so important, reminding these children what it is to be luga, and not letting them lose their culture and identity.
This manga is too adorable! If you’ve read the prior two in the series, you probably already know if you’re into it or not. If you liked the first two, then you’ll like this one too.
I love the art style of this series. It’s too cute! And the content is light and fluffy. You know, aside from the imprisonment and abuse of the luga race. But Nina is an easy protagonist to root for. Typical sweet champion-of-the-underdog character. Roy is a great love interest too. Broody and rebellious, but secretly good. It seems like the main function of the accessory characters so far is to help show Nina’s good nature, but I look forward to seeing their development in the future. Though I still appreciate that the focus is on Nina and Roy. It is a shoujo manga after all!
The story is continuing to evolve, though slowly, but that’s typical of manga like this. We still have the mystery of the school’s management. All we know is that it is run by humans to groom luga to be the future workforce, but we don’t know who is really behind it. We still have no idea why our protagonist transformed into a luga in the first place. But we have some further development on what the student council is, and one human in charge is revealed by the end of the book.
An interesting continuation, though the cliffhanger is a tad frustrating. You’ll see!

I feel like this volume was the most action packed thus far (I mean, there's kidnapping, fights, A LITERAL CLIFFHANGER!) The first two were kind of like... the initial superhero movie: you had the obligatory origin story (brought about by a tragedy of sorts), intro to the love interests/side characters etc. But here, we are thrown straight into the action/conflict: Nina's perfume has been stolen (by Poe/inadvertently by Eva; whenever he talks in third person, it just breaks my heart, I don't know why) and everyone in her pack/Roy's pack finds out her human status. The reactions are surprising. Dario's in particular warms the heart (he doesn't care if she's human; her goodness is what matters). Prejudice lurks around every corner, and Nina's quest to prove "not all humans" is harrowing to watch. I love that romantic love is just a facet of the emotion Aoki Spica makes readers feel; there's the love/respect of your pack, as well as Luga/racial pride. That being said... I'm not mad at the love. Roy is like an onion; lots of layers. Does anyone else feel that his protection/love for Nina stems from responsibility for her lot (he did bite her unprovoked), as well as a kindred spirit in her fight for justice? At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, I do adore the attraction between those two; every panel with them words or no, is electric to say the least.

I have a love/hate relationship with this series. On the one hand, it's tropey as all heck and one romantic lead is pathetic bordering on invisible and the other is pushy to the point of sexual assault (It's okay though. 'Cause he sexy). On the other, the Luga backstory and lore is interesting and mostly well thought out, Nina cares more about her friends and the Luga's cause than romance, and the character introduced as a cringey gay bff has defied all stereotypes to become the best character in the book.
I'm still failing to see why absolutely everyone is obsessed with Nina, though. Even the people who hate her do it out of jealousy over how amazing they think she is and it's hard to ignore the fact that what the Luga's needed was a human savior to teach them to take pride in their race and stir up a rebellion against their human captors.
Aaaaaand, now we're trying to redeem Eva and Roy, despite each have done despicable things and have shown next to no redeeming qualities up to this point. I will say, Nina getting the froma for Poe and Dario standing up for Nina were both awesome moments and I adored each. However, Angelica and the Student Council were so cartoonishly wicked and sheep-like that it was hard to take them seriously. This is still a good series, but this volume isn't as great as its predecessors.
This volume I enjoyed more than the last . It felt like there was more going on which kept my attention . There were some heartfelt moments as usual , with Nina’s affect on the Lugas growing more through tests of her character . And there were some darker revelations about the inner workings of Abigaile. Like I said in my previous reviews I don’t usually read Shoujo but from what I know about it , this doesn’t let u down . Not really my thing but it’s cute and light . Art is well done and fun.
The gripping story and excellent art continue! Now Nina needs to recover her perfume lest the lugas learn she's originally human and not one of them. Who can she trust and who's behind the theft of the perfume? Everything keeps ramping up, careening towards a thrilling finish in the next volume. The LGBT characters are still poorly portrayed outside of Dario, but they some moments where they're more than just bad jokes.
Keeping it spoiler free from the first volumes, I felt this was a solid ending to the series. I was left with a lot of unanswered questions though. For being only 4 volumes, I think it was a solid story. I would have liked more from it in general and I know this could have been made into a longer series if some things would have gone more in depth, but it wasn’t bad for what it was.
I have been following this series since it premiered and I really like it. I don't think it is one that will get a ton of attention, which is a shame, because it is a good story, with interesting characters and world history. So far there are only three volumes, but I keep checking back for more.
Volume Review: 5/5 I find the story intriguing and the artwork spectacular. The plot is moving forward and I'm interested to see where it goes. I still like Gilles more, but Roy isreally hot kinda cool as well. I believe there is only one volume left. Looking forward to reading it!
I must say this was quite the interesting volume. New villain. New problems. I don't know who to ship with Nina. Definitely a fan of both the love interests. Can't say I will be mad either way.
I am in love with this series! ❤❤❤ I can't wait for more volumes! I feel as though I am consuming them as if they were the sweetest of treats! Beautifuly done.
