No just no.

The first book in this series was good but come on, I don't know how these two are even together. Her mom was alive when this all went down, yet there was no mention about whether Emily's mother was still alive. They didn't seem like they had a bad relationship. Usually family is the first thing I would think a person thinks of in a crisis like this I think.

Shes in love with him :D :D :D :D :D. How is this getting five stars. People who try to save her end up dying OH MY GOD!!!! and she has sex with Duke while he's covered in their blood lmao. I wonder what she's gonna tell her kid if she ever has one with him. "Yeeah about my side of the family, daddy was in charge of the warriors that killed everyone who could have been my family. That's why you have no grandparents. Yeeeah but we love him so its all good." lmao I can't.

I never rooted for main characters in a romance novel to die, and i hardly ever root for the humans, but come on humans its time to snipe a Bitch. Seriously no snipers in the buildings?????? Lets not forget that the A'LI-UUD are TRYING TO WIPE OUT HUMANITY!!! (HYPOCRITES) FOR NO REASON other what might happen in a made up future even though Ali-uud tech. is far superior. Omg i'm so bitter. i think i'm gonna call it quits on this one. Rant done. Good luck to all who venture forth.

Well, that was way shorter than I expected and had such an abrupt ending that I felt cheated out of a real end. On the plus side, it was at least more entertaining than the first one. Even though the "love" here is beyond ridiculously unbelievable. I've also read some reviews basically stating that the author must really hate humans or something along those longs. Personally, I just think she's being realistic and definitely has a great way of making these guys fight. So you go on and have your fun destroying us you big blue aliens, you.

I had a problem right away with this book. At the end of the first they let the humans go back to Earth and had to hope for the best. Now all of a sudden they're chomping at the bit to come and wipe us out of existence. And that's actually what they vote to do! I mean, I get it. But if this was going to happen all along, why even bother letting the humans leave Albaterra? It makes no sense. Or wait. Was it just to create a series here?

Duke decides that it is only right that one of the Elders goes along on this mission and leads their people in this fight. For as much as they preached about being a peace loving society, they all seemed awfully bloodthirsty to me. From the moment they arrive at Earth they set about killing any and all humans in their path with a disconcerting glee. Duke jumps into the wind once they land and happens to come across a lone female. For all his intentions to kill her, he can't do it. And now he finds himself in the same position Rex did, which infuriates him. Not being able to kill her, and not willing to let any of his men kill her, Duke kidnaps the female and locks in a cage on his ship.

Emily was out painting at a park one day when her mother's paranoid rambling actually came to be. For weeks the news has been abuzz with information about these aliens and while Emily isn't exactly scared of them, she's not jumping for a chance to meet them either. Too bad for her that's precisely what happens. But even after being taken and locked up for what she estimates to be about a month, she finds herself in love with her captor. I really, truly did not understand how. The two of them barely talked and he never let her out. She acknowledges that it's probably Stockholm syndrome, but not for long.

When humans find his ship and attack, Duke fights them off with a viciousness they can't hope to beat. Emily sees her chance to escape and takes it....but at the same time she doesn't actually want to be free. Which leaves her so incredibly conflicted. No worries though because Duke will not let her leave him. And after they both profess their love for each other, Emily is forced to pick a side. Duke's men have been captured and he vows to kill every human responsible and free them. I did like Emily more than Tabitha in this regard because Emily chose her side and did what she had to do to protect it.

In the end, Duke finds himself gravely injured and he makes a decision that will change his life and his brother's. Leading up to the next book.

I found myself laughing quite a bit here and not because anything was funny. It was more like so much of it just didn't makes sense and I couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. After finishing, I am left with so many questions, that I doubt will get answered too. But like I said, at the very least, I did enjoy this more than the first one.

Great story! Duke is in charge of the force coming to Earth to destroy all humanity. Emily sees his ship land and he takes her captive in his ship, unable to kill her. He struggles between his sense of duty and his growing feelings for her. Her reactions to learning about the cities being destroyed could have been better, but I guess she was under his spell? Can't wait for the next one!

Phew, I wasn't sure that I was going to finish this story but I'm so glad I persevered to the end. They say a sign of a good book is one that leaves you wanting more and this delivered. As I flicked to turn the last page, I found myself shouting "What the...." That's not to say this book is a cliffhanger, it's not but I just wanted more of their story and if you decide to read it (and I would recommend it) you will understand where I'm coming from.

Duke is a leader of the bloodthirsty aliens who come to Earth to eliminate the threat humans pose to their planet. As they land in the Mojave Desert, Duke encounters Emily, an artist and although there to wipe out mankind, something stops him and he is unable to harm her. Believing her to be magical, he whisks her away to his spacecraft and locks her in a cage for protection from other warriors, who he believes would have no difficulty completing the task. As time passes, Emily too, starts to develop feelings for Duke and she has conflicting emotions about this, mainly due to the fact that he wants to eliminate the whole human race. Will they overcome their differences to be together and can they even have a future?

The author has written the story well and the characters are interesting and engaging and shouldn't I be conflicted and unhappy that Duke is killing humans? Of course but no, I thought about it and dismissed it, because even after everything that's happening, I want these two to survive and live happily ever after, together.

This is the second book in the Albaterra series, Rex being the first. Although this could be read as a standalone, some characters are recurring and I think reading their stories always helps to you to fully appreciate and understand what is going on. (Added to the fact that Rex is a super read too and you can't go wrong.)

Well done Ms Hunt, a super book and now I'm hooked. Looking forward to reading Dane's book now and continuing the Albaterra story.

I guess I am the forever optimist to even give the chance to a second book in series, after being so utterly dissapointed by the first. Now ,I guess, the punishment was deserved, stupid me.I was inspired by several reviews that claimed how mutch better the second book is.To my utter horror,it is not.It is even more ridiculous than the first. So let me go over the things that are at the base of this reaction.

Imagine the Earth is invaded, humans are being slaughtered without distinction-military,civilians,woman,elderly,children...Cities are wiped out of any life. You are kidnapped by the leader of murderers, who without remorse tells you of this genocide and his intentions to continue it until you will be the last survivor of human race. And now imagine your reaction....I bet " I love you, let's fuck" is not what you got.Well,it is for our heroine, because the moment the met, they fell in love so deeply, that anything else stopped to matter. So deeply in love, that you are ready to kill humans to help the murdered. No reasoning,no good explanation besides your feelings for monster. And it all is nicely wrapped up and served as ultimate romance. So mutch so,that the first sex appiers while he is dripping blood from humans he mercilessly slaughtered, and heroine faints from orgasms. Some romance,huh?But...they deserve a HEA and can now get married without a worry of slaughter. It never even crosses a heroines mind to beg mercy for her race.So-all good, right? Soooooo romantic, I'm swooning....

But the best reasoning for this horrendity is the excuse, that humans react with violence and fear of unknown,so they should be wiped out, because the aliens do not understand them and don't know what they may do.Because THAT is what peace loving race should do ....Logical,right?

While I found the first book to be plain and boring, this book is ridiculous bordering crazy and insane.

And the writing is still shit....

Duke is one of the Council of Elders on Albaterra. He is angry that now the humans on Earth know of their existence and he believes that the A’li-uud should wipe them out in self-protection. He sees humans as greedy, dangerous and dishonorable. When the council votes to attack Eath, Duke goes with the troops even when being an Elder means he didn't have to go. He leads the attack fleet to Earth even after running into a military blockade in space. The A’li-uud ship destroy most of the ships and move onto Earth. Duke's ship lands in the desert.
Emily is a human and an artist. She is worried about the news of the aliens. She is spending the day in the desert painting when she sees an alien ship land. She is taken prisoner by Duke and brought back to the ship and placed in a cage. Over the month she is held there she becomes closer and closer to Duke. Duke was surprised by the feelings he has for Emily so much that he first thinks she is using magic. Will Duke be able to put aside his negative feelings for humans?
This is a good book but more violent than the first because of the war scenes. Duke is very prejudiced against humans and believes that their self defensive actions are planned. He forgets that humans know nothing about them while the A’li-uud knows much about the humans. It was nice to see him change his mind and he was much nicer at the end. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.

Duke: A Paranormal Scifi Alien Romance: Albaterra Mates Book 2
by Ashley L. Hunt
⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you are a fan of stories of first loves reuniting, then this book is for you!! Ashley L. Hunt never fails to give her readers those sexy yet great books that you will easy become addict to them. Ashley is one of my favorite authors because her books always put a smile on my face. This book has a nice pace and is a great read, I loved the chemistry that Ashley is able to showcase in Emily and Du’ciact aka Duke story. Emily works as a store clerk to take care of herself but what she rather be doing is a painting she is a artist. This is her off day but it turns out to be the most unexpected but terrifying day of her life. Duke is a great militant Elder on the A’li-uud council. But he is also eager to join the Albaterran warriors on their mission to destroy earth's humanity. This is Book 2 of Alien Romance Albaterra Mates. What a awesome, sexy, engaging story of a Paranormal Sci-Fi love. WOW! What hot steamy scenes with two mates one human and one alien at odds because of their attraction to each other. There is drama, passion, jealousy and a HEA. So if you are looking for a book, that will leave a smile on your face then look no further. This is a perfect Read that gives us the romance we want with characters that we like! I highly recommend this story and I voluntarily reviewed this book, because I love sharing my thoughts with my fellow readers.

Loved the characters and the story, stayed for the gratuitous violence, yeah baby!
This is such an exciting story of alien invasion from the other point of view! I mean, I know, I know, her aliens were portrayed as heroic, humans are the victims, she's glorifying the invaders, blah, blah, blah, whatever, the fight scenes are gross and violent and SO freaking awesome! Counter that with the sweet protectiveness that Emily gets from Duke, and dude, I'm not mad! This story is great fiction, period. I read some of the lower rated reviews that called into question the authors stand on genocide...of characters that she made up to entertain us, ludicrous projection by the way, when humans kill each other off every dang day! I just wanted to yell, IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU, SILLY RABBITS!!!! If you want to focus on stopping real genocide, I can give you some web sites to go to that sponsor human rights campaigns, be a real hero save the world in actuality and leave my fiction funky and let it be it's gnarly self. I don't need you to save me from literary genocide or apparent Stockholm syndrome gone amuck. Sheez, I breezed through this book and can't wait for the next one. I was entertained and my mind was refreshed from the view from the other side. Rock on Ms. Hunt, rock on!

This is book 2 in the Albaterra Mates Series. It can easily be read alone, however reading book 1 Rex would give you a better understanding of where this book takes us.
Duke is a fast paced book, filled with action, drama and adventures.
Dukes people have come to Earth to perform a pre-emptive strike against the human race, to protect their own people back home. Upon their arrival, they are met with brutal force in Earths hemisphere, and their warrior blood is stirred for revenge.
Emily has gone to the desert to paint. Unfortunately she has chosen the day that Dukes people have arrived. After watching a ship crash to the ground and the aliens disembarking from the ship, she realises that life as she knew it may be over.
When these two meet there is an instant attraction. They both fight the attraction, but as we all know, sooner or later the attraction becomes too strong and cannot be ignored.
Though enjoyable, this felt a little rushed towards the end. Add into that the fact that Emily doesn't seem to be struggling with the idea of the human race being wiped out, and you may find yourself scratching your head a little.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book

Duke is an A’li-uud Elder just like his father was. Everything is going well because there is peace in his kingdom and his warriors are well trained and deadly. However when they travel to Earth he finds he cannot kill one human woman called Emily because he is in love with her, even if that means he has to ignore his loathing for humans as well as betray his own troops.

This is a charming story on how love can strike at the most inopportune moments between two people who should be enemies. The story covered how he tried to not feel anything for her, but in the end had to give in. The ending nicely handed over to Duke who is in the next story and I hope there will be space for the rest of the story between Duke and Emily to be told as so much more can and probably will happen when they arrive on Albaterra. So it would have been nice for this book to contain more on that.

*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinion stated are solely my own and no one

I really enjoyed Rex's story but sadly, Duke's story didn't meet my expectations.

Emily and Duke are supposed to have a connection from the moment they meet but I didn't understand how can she can want someone who locked her in a cage like an animal.

I struggled to connect with the characters; their love blossoms at a time when Duke and his people are going around killing everyone. Emily is bothered but evidently not enough to voice her opinions.

The length of the book was disappointing because it ended at 50%. The ending felt rushed and there were too many loose ends that weren't addressed.

If I hadn't read book one I would be lost and would probably have disliked this book. All the world building is done in the first book, it sets the stage for any conflict, and lays the groundwork for the hard feelings and possibility of betrayal. Those hard feelings are only touched on and the betrayal thing doesn't really go anywhere.

Honestly, this book is far too short for everything that should be in here. The ending felt abrupt and unfinished. The rest of the series hopefully fills in gaps and connects everything together.

Overall there is a lot of promise and should definitely be read in the series order. There's not enough here to be a true standalone. I willingly read and reviewed an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems.

This book starts right after Rex: Albaterra Mates #1. As we learned in book 1, Duke is also an Albaterrian Elder. Still fearing the humans, an envoy of warriors is sent to Earth with Duke leading the mission. Upon landing on the Earth, Duke sees Emily and immediately detains her in a cage in his ship. There are A'li-uud ships in several places, Nevada, Mass. and New York. This book delves into the chaos behind fear of the unknown by both species and how love can change things. Each of these books can be read as a stand alone but for the full effect of the overall story, I suggest reading the entire series. Each story starts where the last ended. I went back and bought the whole series after I started the first one.

Duke has to go against his kind in order to save Emily. They're killing off humans - men, women, and children. It makes for a tough plot to write, but the focus was on Duke and his love for Emily. I've seen some of the comments about genocide, and I don't condone it, but it doesn't mean that people shouldn't write fictional books which broach the subject of children being killed. Be reminded that this is fiction, and even in real life, it's tragic, but the topic comes up. I try not to take this book too seriously. It's science fiction for a reason, and I enjoyed the romance aspect of it. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Duke is the only Elder to go with his warriors. I liked that it was simply important to him. Duke was the first to find an earthling and unable to understand what was happening. All around the world mayhem was going on. WAR had begun. It seems violent and bloody. However, during this time Duke has taken Emily back to his ship where they send a month solidifying the instant soul mate instincts they both felt at the time they met. I really liked this take the Author has made. I believe in soul mate. I was in love within month and married by 3 months, still going after 33 yes. Maybe this is a fictional story, but I like the grasp that one would do anything for their mate.

Duke

Another great book by Ms Hunt. This is a great series.I would hope that if I ever meet any Aliens that they are half as good as these....lol. Ms Hunt writes a great story and everyone needs to give this author try. She manages to get the characters so realistic with heart. Everyone should give this gifted author a try. You'll find her books fun, fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable

An alien romance that will put humans against the aliens. They fear humans because of our past wars and believe that we will attack them. Some want peace with humans but they are the minority. Duke believes all humans must be destroyed but it only takes one look at Emily and everything will change for them both. Lots of violence and one hot scene. Very interested to see how this war will go in the rest of the series.

Can't get behind mass murder and extinction

I just can't get behind the mass murder for no reason of an entire race. I don't see love being able to blossom when the alien keeps her in a cage for a month while he's destroying an entire planet of people. The author must not like humanity too much.

I loved what there was of this book. It ended so abruptly though that it felt unfinished and I wasn't 100 percent in love with the hero. There needed to be more growth for him, I mean he starts out as a genocidal a** and really doesn't seem much improved on that score at the end.

I don’t think it was as good as the first one. Still OK for an afternoon read. I got all the books together in one bundle and I’m really enjoying the ride these books take me. I’m already in the next one.
I love these aliens. I love there assholian ways. The way they are ruthless killers but when they are with their mates they are gentle and amazing lovers.

I can't believe that I'm saying this, but the first book was better.

The first book took place in Campestria and the majority of the second book took place on Earth.

Overall, an ok story line but it was a bit repetitive.

I really wanted to like this story more than I did. I just could not connect to the characters. If you read Rex, then you met Duke. He is a great warrior on his planet of Albaterra and one of the Council members. When the Council decides they will send warriors to earth to kill the humans, Duke decides that he will be going with his fighters.

Emily is an artist who works in a Mystic shop in Las Vegas. She goes out to the Mojave National Reserve to paint on her day off, only to find herself watching an alien space ship land. She watches in horror as the blue-skinned aliens run from the ship, and some of them head right for her.

Duke does his Elder wind-flyer thing and lands near Emily. When the two of them make eye contact they are both sure the other is using some kind of mind-control. Nothing else explains the way they are suddenly attracted to each other.

I thought there was very little substance to the story. I also didn't like the descriptions of the killing of the soldiers, or maybe that Emily didn't seem to have a problem with it. I feel that the story was short on the romance that I was expecting. I hope that the next one is a little less bloodthirsty and a little more romantic
