The second half was better, starting with the 2000 Teen Titans. I did learn a bit about Batman's history, since the first half was from Teen Titans and Batman Family/ Detective Comics in the 70's. A decent introduction to Duella Dent/ Jokers Daughter. I do feel like there were a few more they could have included from New 52, such as the Catwoman she is advertised as appearing in and Suicide Squad.

3.4 Thought I’d be disappointed it’s mostly old school comics but it’s campy fun. Jokers Daughter looks just like him with blush but will disguise as any villain’s daughter. She has Totally Spy esque weapons like powder puffs and shooting lipsticks, very cute. It’s funny she often fights Robin who has to produce makeshift masks out of paper towels when he’s interrupted as Dick.

There’s a lot of mention but not much show of other Teen Titans. And there’s the bee girl I forgot from the cartoon. More Teen Titans stuff with not as much daughter, the character designs quite uninspired/ugly. No Starfire. There is Terra but they made her look so much like the Flash girl with the boy haircuts.

Then we have more modern issues like the revolting cover that surprisingly have some cuteness like fish and inter tubes. But the writing feels pretty amateur and not fleshed out nor shaved down enough, clunky. It’s not too novel the “I wanna make the world ugly like me” narrative and the women are too only esteemed for their looks thing could have been clearer. That girl isn’t the same Joker’s daughter character though. She’s just a sewer person who found his face from when he cut it off in the New 52 saga.

The second part of the end is better, where she wants to sort of find family in Joker, feeling his face chose to find her, and she sets up crimes like his so Bat will lead her to him on accident.

I only knew about Duela Dent from what I had read secondhand (like, Wikis and such). I knew she was a super minor character in the world. That being said... if a character is THIS minor... maybe not devote an entire collection to her? I mean, there are several issues in the middle of this collection that feature her like for two panels, and that's it. There was one four-issue arc that she appeared for a page in the first issue... and then like a panel or three in the second or third issue, and then in the last like four pages of the fourth issue. That's... it. But, I would like to note that (especially since I really prefer my Dark Knight stories dark) the issues from the New 52 at the end of this collection I found really great and intriguing.

Batman Arkham: Joker's Daughter is a compilation of some of the best representative of Joker's Daughter stories over the years centering one of the more unknown foes in the Batman Rouges. This collection features the Joker's Daughter in all her many incarnations throughout the years.

This trade paperback collects Batman Family #6, #8–9, #16, #19, Batman: Joker's Daughter #1, Batman: The Dark Knight #23, Detective Comics #482–483, Titans: Secret Files and Origins #2, and Teen Titans/Outsiders: Secret Files and Origins #1.

Duela Dent as the Joker's Daughter is a fictional (super)-villain created by Bob Rozakis, she first appeared in Batman Family #5 (August 1976). The character claims to be the child of many of Gotham City's most infamous super-villains, including Catwoman, Scarecrow, the Riddler, the Penguin, Two-Face, Doomsday, Dr. Light, Punch and Jewelee, and of course the Joker. With each unproven claims go with another alter ego, but the Joker's Daughter is the most prominent and often used.

As a whole, Batman Arkham: Joker's Daughter is a rather well collected anthology of the Joker's Daughter stories. In truth, before going into this anthology, I did not know much about the Joker's Daughter and frankly, when I think about Batman's Rogue Gallery – she is not on it. Furthermore, I do not think that she is used very often or popular enough to have her very own anthology. Regardless, it is a nice collection of stories and gives the reader a nice overview of the Joker's Daughter.

All in all, I think Batman Arkham: Joker's Daughter is a somewhat well selection of stories that gives a nice glimpse into the psyche of one of the most enigmatic villain in Batman's Rouge Gallery – Joker's Daughter. It is a good anthology for both the avid and subdued fan alike. However, for the newly initiated I would recommend a collection that is more substantial and cohesive.

Much like the character... the book is kind of scattershot. In fact, it is almost a 'Best of' collection of three different characters.

The first being the classic Teen Titans character Duela Dent. The 70s were an odd time for the Batbooks. Some writers were trying to hang on to the goofiness of the 50s and 60s Batman. Others were trying to set the stage for what Batman would become in the mid-80s. Bob Rozakis seems to trying to play both sides of the tracks. The stories was fun and whimsical without being stupid. Really, my problem with the format is that two or three of the story arcs in this book are incomplete because they only include the issues Duela was in. And it' only clear why two of them were included until you reach the end of the story.

Now, the two 90s-00s stories are a little different. Duela was one of those characters who got screwed over by crisis because at least as her second (or was it third) origin story from before Crisis couldn't possibly have occurred. Instead of letting her lay in limbo with the Inferior Five, Geoff Johns brought her out of retirement and made Duela Dent an alias and even she doesn't know her own origins beyound that she is related to a villain. And like many of Johns early Titans and JSA plot, he just sort of left them unresolved.

Then you have the actual Joker's Daughter stories which shared 'Girl Pretending to be Joker's Daughter' gimmick and little else. Duela Dent was a lovable impish prankster. The unknown girl under the mask is violent for the sake of being violent and the story goes out of the way to say she isn't crazy. The stories were well written but not enough so to give us a god damned reason to care about her as a character.

As an advertisement for reading other 70s Bob Rozakis Robin or Batgirl stories, this worked very well. I had a blast reading those old stories and might check out more of them in the future. It's a shame, I liked Duela as a hero with all her wacky gadgets, wish she got to stick around longer. But allegedly people working at DC didn't like her, so she was first given a new identity, then written out of the Robin series entirely. One of the stories in here, she only appears on one page, it's rough. And the stuff in second half of the book, I really didn't like, she went back to being a kooky villain in the early 2000s, and then the bloody edgelord new 52 issues are so bad.

Basically, if you're looking for a satisfying and cohesive graphic novel, this isn't one. But if you're interested in the history of the Joker's Daughter character with this book showing nearly all of her 70s appearances outside the teen titans and then a smattering of stories she's been in since, check it out.

Picking this up, I thought this was going to be much more about the cover art, the new Joker's Daughter arc that booted up in recent years. To my surprise, this features many different arcs, including some way back in the old(er) comics way back when. It was nice to actual visit them, as they are comic arcs I've never really had a chance to read them.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. The only reason I've dropped a star is not all of the stories in the set are about Duella, which is quite aggravating. You open a book called Joker's Daughter you kind of expect it to centre completely around her, especially when the blurb of the book promotes it.

Either way, the writing was really well done, I really enjoyed the artwork in each section. The only thing people should really be wary of is very few mentions of eating disorders and self harm, with one frame showing the latter.

If you enjoy the supervillains of the Batman universe, I thoroughly recommend reading this one.

this is a very weird showcase the titular character is barely there in like half the stories.

It also puts me in the unusual position of liking the silver age stories best because at least they had characterization? And yeah it's pretty basic characterization, but that's still better than the rest.

The first 90s story was just weird and pointless action panels, but the second had a certain amount of charm despite being weird. But you know- it still leaves too many questions unanswered.

the New 52 storyline is basically just another creepy gotham villain. Which you know, isn't reallyt bad in of itself but the first part of it was some real eyerollworthy shit which i think tried to show The Depths To Which Humans Can Sink To which seems excessive and pointless because the news already does that.

It's not one of the better Batman Arkham villain collections, for sure, largely because of the huge disparity between the old Joker's Daughter character and her new appearance during the New 52. Also, a bunch of the stories are included for completions' sake and BARELY even involve her, when it's supposed to be a book devoted to her appearances. But, let's face it, 'Duela Dent' hasn't had many. I did find it amusing that she once used the alias of 'Harlequin', and of course later on we got the Harley Quinn character from Batman: The Animated Series, and is now arguably the most popular DC female outside of Wonder Woman. But JD had the tag first, and you have to wonder if Timm and crew wrote Harley as a new version of her.

I read this while in the middle of Batman: Eternal to get a better understanding of Joker's Daughter. I guess I know who she is now? The first half felt unnecessarily long since the New 52 appearances retcon it all anyways.

To be fair though I much prefer the earlier interpretation of a Girl who can convince herself she's anybody's Daughter than the much edgier New 52 stuff. Nonetheless, this compilation was well put together and did technically give me a better understanding of this character.

For a book about Joker's Daughter, it really needs more Joker's Daughter. Several of the stories barely feature her, and one not at all. I don't like the newest take, but it was fun to see her original version. The in-between version was meh.

I guess if you're a hardcore Joker's Daughter fan (do those exist??) this is needed, but I'm not sure it's a great introduction to the character. Multiple different versions, but really only the first has spirit.

A compilation of stories involving the Joker's Daughter and a ton of her alter egos, like Sandcrone: The Scarecrow's Daughter. Stories were published between 1976 and 2014 and vary widely in tone and style.

These comics where either corny(which is understandable for when they were written, and I’m not hating, they just weren’t great) or super gross/weird/not interesting. Like gore for gores sake is dumb. Maybe I just think this character sucks. Especially because there was no continuity.

The worst of the Arkham collections I've read so far. There were maybe two issues I enjoyed enough to ever read again.
