Now you can find out how your mind really works - and what you can do about it! In 28 compelling and insightful essays, software engineer and self-help author Phillip J. Eby shows you how to understand the software that runs your life, the mental networks that control your actions, and the ways you can influence them to "give yourself an upgrade".

Inside, you'll

* Why it sometimes seems like you don't control your own actions
* Why the body is the key to the mind, and not the other way around!
* Why avoiding the things you dislike usually makes them worse, not better!
* Why achieving your goals will never make you really happy
* How to use your "mental time machine" to change the person you were, before trying to change the person you are
* How to overcome your resistance and procrastination, not by being harder on yourself, but by being gentler
* The real reason "resolutions" don't stick, and willpower doesn't work
* Why intelligent people are often far less happy with their lives than people of average intelligence, and what they can do to change this!
* The difference between visualizing to plan, and visualizing to act
* And much, much more!

This book had a profound impact on me. I had been reading his blog for a while, and anticipating the book version. The ideas he presented really helped me make some important changes in my life.

Phillip presents a model of how the mind works, and how to change the way the mind works using a few simple techniques. The short version is that the habits you follow can be rewritten and rewired if you take the time to discover how you first adopted those habits. Assuming they're bad habits you don't want to follow, you must address the source of the habit, heal the sore spot that led to adopting it, and decide how to modify the habit for your own good.
