A Dangerous Engagement

Rate this book
Just as merchant’s daughter Felicity Mayson is spurned once again because of her meager dowry, she receives an unexpected invitation to Lady Blackstone’s country home. Being introduced to the wealthy Oliver Ratley is an admitted delight, as is his rather heedless yet inviting proposal of marriage. Only when another of Lady Blackstone’s handsome guests catches Felicity’s attention does she realize that nothing is what it seems at Doverton Hall.

Government agent Philip McDowell is infiltrating a group of cutthroat revolutionaries led by none other than Lady Blackstone and Ratley. Their devious plot is to overthrow the monarchy, and their unwitting pawn is Felicity. Now Philip needs Felicity’s help in discovering the rebels’ secrets—by asking her to maintain cover as Ratley’s innocent bride-to-be.

Philip is duty bound. Felicity is game. Together they’re risking their lives—and gambling their hearts—to undo a traitorous conspiracy before their dangerous masquerade is exposed.

Ooooh, Felicity is a spy as well in this novel like Julia was in the first book of this series! While I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the second book, I did still really enjoy it! I was for sure hooked into the plot about two pages in because Felicity had already won me over completely due to that fact she’s learn Chinese and is thinking about the idea of becoming a missionary in China. Love her! I also thought it was interesting that she’s number 12 of 13 children in her family. The whole plot had adrenaline running throughout it, which kept me fully involved in the story. It was a bit kissy-er than other books by this author, but that was because of the dangerous engagement. ;)
I’m so sad that this series is over now, but it was such a pleasant and enjoyable series by Melanie Dickerson!

I'm going to start by saying that the title is perfect for this book! And could be a play on the word 'Engagement'. I'll let you read the book to think about that idea and come to your own conclusions. This is part of a series but I hadn't read any of the prior books before reading this one. I felt that it could work as a stand alone novel. So if anyone else is thinking about reading this one and hasn't read the other two books, I think you'll be just find reading this one without feeling completely clueless. I wasn't sure if that would be the case before I started it. I checked other reviews and didn't really see anyone mention it either way so I just decided to dive right in and see how it went. There are a few references that I think were from the other two books but I didn't feel lost or feel that those were necessary to understand what was going on.

I think the first part of the book would be more of a 3* read for me but the last half would be a 4* so I'm rounding up to 4* for my overall rating.

Felicity has had no luck in securing a suitor. She has no fortune and therefore, no real prospects at marriage. But when a distant aunt invites her and another aunt to a house party, Felicity's life is turned upside down, placed in grave danger and her heart will be tried at every turn. Can she match the wits of those around her or will one mistake risk her and her aunt's lives.

There's quite a bit of suspense and intrigue going on throughout the book. It kept a pretty fast pace for action and moments where I was nervous for some of the characters. Yes, my heart was pounding and I was for sure during several scenes that there was no way they'd not be caught. Sorry for being vague but I can't spoil it for you.

While I did enjoy the novel overall, it wasn't my favorite by Melanie Dickerson. I had a hard time connecting with Felicity. I'm not sure if it was my tired brain because sometimes that definitely makes it hard to connect or to always follow along with dialogue. But for me, the dialogue seemed a little rushed or a little too much at the beginning and scattered throughout. Felicity started off with almost a downtrodden heart, sad but still determined to make the best of her situation, almost a little skittish. But then it felt like she instantly become strong and bold and then back to skittish. I think I would have liked a little more build up of her becoming resolute in her situation. Then again being caught unawares and placed in the dangerous position she was in, you would either have to buck up or melt down. So I'm back and forth on my feelings for Felicity. I will say that the last part of the book really picked up more for me and I really liked her character.

I could be the only one feeling that way so if you're hesitant to read it because of my thoughts, I say go for it and decide for yourself. It was overall a fun read. The danger, peril, and suspense were tangible and kept the pace going. The evil/bad character(whatever you want to call them-I know there's a correct literary term but I like saying bad guy so that's why I'm using it) was kinda scary crazy. Lol. One moment that character would be all serene and welcoming and the next very calculating and watching everyone very closely. And then the next, out of nowhere you wouldn't want to be caught dead anywhere near them. Again, I'm being vague on purpose, can't ruin the surprise of it all for you.

Mr. Ratley, Mr. McDowell, Auntie, Lady Blackstone and several other side characters make up the cast for this novel. I thought they balanced each other out pretty well. I had my favorite character that I was cheering on, and let me just say that the last several chapters with him (yes I'll give a little hint here that the character is a him) were awesome! I really, really enjoyed the last 25 % or so of the book...like a lot.

I've rambled on and on enough now. If you're a Melanie Dickerson fan, then I think you'll really enjoy this one. If you haven't read any of her books, definitely grab whichever one really piques your interest and enjoy.

Oh, one last thought that I had for this book...if you are a stickler for Regency etiquette, this one doesn't quite follow all the rules. Just thought I'd throw that out there for those of you who want that in your novels.

Content: Peril, nothing graphic. A couple fights, talk of murder, stolen kisses but definitely overall clean. There are a couple small parts where Felicity prays asking for help in her situation but nothing preachy, I thought it fit in nicely and would definitely fit with how somebody in this time period acted.

I received a copy from the publisher, Waterfall Press, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Have I mentioned before that Melanie Dickerson is one of my favorite authors? Yes, I know I have a lot of favorites, but she is one of them and her newest book has a beautiful story, fantastic characters, and a gorgeous cover to boot! I am also a lover of all things Austen and this series has many nods to Jane Austen's works.

"A Dangerous Engagement" by Melanie Dickerson is the third installment in "The Regency Spies of London" series. This book can be read as a stand-alone novel, but characters from the other books in the series do make appearances. Ms. Dickerson has mentioned before that she has gotten inspiration from Jane Austen while writing the books in this series. "A Dangerous Engagement" seems to have a lot of similarities to "Northanger Abbey" in particular. There are also some characters that remind me of characters from "Pride and Prejudice" and a certain section of the story brings "Emma" to mind. Ms. Dickerson inserts these tidbits from Austen, yet manages to weave her own delightful and unique story. I love that she adds the whole concept of spies and mystery. While some may find it a little slower than the first two books, it is still very good in its own right. At points it is especially hard to put down, as many of the chapters end in cliff hangers or a suspenseful plot twist!

The characters in this book are my favorite part. They are so well written and I really grew to love many of them and despise others. Felicity, our heroine (who doesn't think she is one), is nervous and emotional in the beginning. Her character changes a lot over the course of the novel and she is able to become more bold and courageous. She is more interested in wanting to make something of her life and instead of obsessing over the latest fashion; she can be found studying Chinese to become a missionary in China and quoting Hannah More. She often prays and learns to trust in God and look to Him when she feels anxious. What a great character and encouragement for those of us who struggle with anxiety! Philip, the hero, is very noble and has strong faith and morals. I also have a feeling many of us bookworms will find a kindred spirit in Aunt Agnes (I don't want to say any more and risk giving spoilers).

"A Dangerous Engagement" is another terrific book by Melanie Dickerson! It's a great read that can be enjoyed by young and old alike!

Content: This is a clean read, suitable for middle grade to adult readers. There is a mention that a character curses, but the curse isn't written. There is an instance where a character hears that at some house parties men take “liberties” with women. There is a reference to the marriage bed.

Genre: Christian historical fiction; Regency; Romance

Rating: I give this book four stars.

I want to thank Melanie Dickerson, Netgalley, Waterfall Press and Brilliance Publishing for the complimentary copy of this book for review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I express in this review are my own. This is in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s CFR 16, Part 255.

A disappointing conclusion to an otherwise great series. Book #3 just did not stand up to the other 2 books.

The heroine was annoying and her logic grated on my nerves. I also felt the author left too many issues unresolved. The plot felt contrived with one coincidence after another. I found myself rolling my eyes more than once.

When most people think of Regency novels, they likely think of sedate, conversation-rich books like Pride and Prejudice or Persuasion. Well, throw is spies, revolutionaries, and murder and a Regency novel suddenly gets much more exciting! (NOTE: I am in no way bashing Jane Austen's books–I adore them. :))
I absolutely loved the first two books in this series, and this book did not let me down! In fact, the suspense was so intense that I could barely put this book down once I started it.
I loved getting to know Felicity better (since we only met her a few times in the previous books). She is in many ways the most unlikely of heroines, which in many ways makes her the most astounding of heroines. And of course Philip is a perfect hero (though he has a few flaws too–can't make your hero TOO perfect).
I absolutely loved reading this book and can't wait to see what Melanie writes next!

The final installment in this series doesn't disappoint. Felicity never could imagine what intrigue and danger await her when she goes to stay with a distant aunt. Felicity is the youngest daughter in a large family and believes that her lack of a dowery will means she want find love. In fact it causes her to make a rash decision that may cost her not only her freedom but her life!
Phillip is also the younger son who is not going to inherit a title or wealth and is looking to make a name for himself. He has been sent by the War Department to investigate a possible rebellion against the Crown.
Phillip not only finds the rebels at Felicity’s aunt estate but learns that she is in peril due to her aunt's matchmaking scheme.
Join Felicity and Phillip as the work together to thwart the rebellion against the Crown and possibly find love in the process.
I received an advanced copy of this book from Net Gallery and the author. This review is my honest opinion of the book and I was not required to leave a review.

This book was so good, I dreamed I was in it and woke up with people chasing me! Okay, so nightmares are not necessarily the way to rate a novel, but hey, it was great! I don't generally get so into a book that my dreams "morph" me into it. But it was a terrific and quick read!

I'm not really into historical fiction, but Dickerson is an exception to that for my reading tastes! I usually want to know the summary and read a few sample chapters before reading a Regency just to make sure it will keep my attention, I had NO TROUBLE liking this book without my "usual" in A Dangerous Engagement :) It starts a little slow at first, but the suspense and tension had my FULL ATTENTION early on.

I was confused initially because Felicity gets engaged early on and the whole situation was off for my liking. Also, was Merrick a good guy and someone to be trusted or up to no good? I didn't have to wait long for those questions to be answered. Loved that Felicity comes from a family of 13 children and how people respond to that in the narrative, I think my eyes grew a little when learning that fact also :)

Truly LOVED Aunt Agnes, without a doubt she was my FAVE character in this incredible story!

There's a character who tells on Felicity towards the end and all I had to put the book down, all the while thinking, "Why did you DO that?! Don't you realize how dangerous this is? Are you crazy?!" I literally wanted to smack this character in the face for being such a gossiper, but it was SO WELL WRITTEN that it helped make things more tense in the plot. I had to pick up the book about 20 minutes later just to see how Felicity got out of THAT problem (also had to charge my kindle and take a break).

Also, what's with all the fainting? Come on, Felicity, hold it together now! You can do this! LOL, for such a strong character, yes she was stressed out so I get that, but I don't think I've ever read a character fainting that much before and it was humorous.

Blackstone is a worthy villain, my eyes got wide every time she appears in the scene. Other than Darth Vader and a few other mentions, women make THE BEST villains and Blackstone was written so brilliantly. Her facial expressions, her house rules and controlling ways, her manipulation because everyone wants her approval, yet through it all she desperately wants to trust Felicity and even LISTENS to her in every suspicion. I really thought Ratley was more of a pathetic pet to Blackstone, hard to like him but easy to feel sorry for him.

Such a great ending and this author is such a gem because after everything she puts you through with the tense plot, she is good enough to include an epilogue and a little extra for her beloved readers to enjoy. Truly believe this is another masterpiece from Dickerson and my goodness how I love the cover!

I received this ebook from the author via Netgalley, the thoughts and comments are my own.

Finally! It took me a while to get around to reading this book, due to limited budgets. Apparently, I read the first book in this series in 2018, then took until February or March last year to read the second one, and finally got to this third one this month.

I admit that it took me a bit longer than I hoped to really get sucked into this, but I think that's my fault for waiting so long between books. Felicity appeared as a side character and friend of the main characters in both of the previous books, so we've already gotten to know her a little. But of course, since I read the previous book nearly a year ago, and the first one three years before that, she wasn't as fresh in my mind. This made me feel like there wasn't a lot of character development at the start and that we jumped a little too quickly into the action so that I had to wait a bit before I really felt connected to Felicity, but I DID finally connect to her, and I end up liking the story a lot.

Whereas I had a mild critique of the second book because there wasn't as much spying going on as the first book, this one had allll the spying. Definitely can't complain about a lack of that, or excitement.😉 It was pretty exciting, even if I did want to smack Felicity at first for not realizing Lady Blackstone was being a weird about pushing her and Mr. Ratley so hard to form a bond too fast. Of course, I knew from the synopsis that Blackstone was a dangerous revolutionary, while Felicity didn't and couldn't know, but still. Blackstone was sending all kinds of red flags. I also, of course, was a little frustrated at Felicity's becoming engaged to Mr. Ratley, while simultaneously understanding why she felt she had to. (To give her credit, she did quickly see the folly of her hasty decision.) As any Jane Austen fan knows, Regency Era marriage was just as often about convenience and money as love, and especially since Felicity had struggled with rejection even in the background of the previous books, I understood her reasoning. It frustrated me. But I understood.

But wow, this story really took off and never slowed down! I really liked our spy, Phillip. He was gallant, brave, and perfect for Felicity. I kinda wish he'd gotten the chance to punch Ratley in the nose. :p (Though I'll note that I felt Mr. Ratley was actually pretty well balanced as a character. Despite being a potentially dangerous revolutionary, he wasn't insidious like Lady Blackstone, and it seemed he did genuinely care for Felicity's well being, even if he was, unfortunately, very shallow and selfish in his affections, and easily manipulated by Blackstone, which is why we like Phillip better.)

I was often on the edge of my seat wondering if and when Phillip and Felicity would get caught in their spying. Blackstone was nutters enough to really feel like a threat even with her smiles and supposed friendliness. Like, she would give you tea but then give you a knife in the back just as fast if she even whiffed treachery. :p

I also liked what Dickerson did with Aunt Agnes' character. She wasn't that noticeable at first, but that turned out to be a good thing with the spying. It was fun to see this bookish little woman who Felicity was afraid to inform of the real danger they were in lest Agnes faint, get all enthusiastic about spying and eavesdropping because it was just like the adventures in the books she read. XD And she got her own adorable little romance, too! ❤

Though the faith content in this series isn't as overt as in Dickerson's medieval fairytale retelling series, her main characters are still believers, and sometimes even a small moment can still be used by God. I was actually having some anxiety about some real life stuff as I was reading the last chapters of this book and there was a moment where Felicity was having anxiety about her situation, but then she realized that worrying about things she can't control, even big scary things like being trapped in a house of dangerous revolutionaries would do no good. So she decided to find peace by handing her worries over to God, who is plenty big enough to take care of it. It was such a small moment in the book, but it felt like a gentle hug from my Heavenly Father reminding me that I need to lean on Him and give Him my own anxieties. It's not the first time He's used a Melanie Dickerson book that way with me and I'm sure it won't be the last.

So, despite having a little trouble connecting at the beginning due to the fast start, I did end up enjoying this story and am giving it 4.5 stars. Someday I'd like to return to this trilogy and reread all three back to back and see if that makes the fast start of this one land better for me. I suspect it will since their stories are tied together by the friend group of Julia, Leorah, and Felicity.

Our favorite regency ladies have been weighing the cost of waiting for love against the benefits of marrying for financial security since Lizzy and Jane. Unfortunately, not all gentlemen are Darcys and Bingleys, reader friends!

Felicity Mason is just about the sweetest girl-next-door y’all can imagine. She’s also a tad bit naive, bless her heart. Phillip McDowell is our resident undercover spy but he’s no James Bond. He’s a natural at keeping his cool, highly trained, and completely devoted to his monarch and country.

Dickerson draws readers into the suspenseful plot and softens the edges with a sweet romance. This is an excellent conclusion to a wonderful series!

I have long enjoyed Melanie Dickerson's reworking of old fairy tales into Christian themed stories. She does a fine job at that. And she has also proved she is very adept at changing genres, effortlessly moving into a great Regency. And not just a Regency, but a suspenseful one at that.

She takes us once again into danger during this third novel in her Regency Spies of London series. This one is suspenseful from beginning to end. Don't miss it.

Felicity's father is a successful merchant but with 13 children he is unable to have a very large dowry which really turns off the mother's of eligible young men. She is invited to visit Lady Blackstone who was once an aunt by marriage. All is not as it seems by the invitation. Aunt Agnes goes with her to chaperon. Felicity realizes at once there are few women and mostly men at the house party. The other women are married to some of the men. As soon as Felicity and Aunt Agnes are in the door she is introduced to a young man Lady Blackstone is pushing to make an engagement for Felicity. Not having had any offers she answers 'yes' when Mr. Ratley asks her. Then Mr. Merrick shows up and he seems different than the others. Much is going on here, like taking over the government. What can Felicity do?

A worthy conclusion to The Regency Spies of London series. This story is filled with the excitement one would expect when revolutionaries and spies are among the guests at a house party in the country.

Felicity Mayson finds more than she bargains for when she accepts an invitation to visit her aunt. Everything is not as it appears. The story starts out rather slow but as the suspense builds, Felicity displays tremendous backbone as she joins forces with one of the guests to uncover evidence of a plot against the British government.

I enjoyed the nods to Jane Austen's works as well.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from goodreads and the author/publisher. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Another fabulous book by Melanie Dickerson!
While I didn't quite enjoy this one as much as the first two in the series, I still loved it and loved the characters.
The mystery aspect was nice, but pretty easy to figure out. I did enjoy the plot though.
My main complaint is, some of the things that were said tended to be a bit repetitive at times.
But other than that, it was a enjoyable, quick read.

Started good, weakened, and ended rather poorly for me, but I was so happy to finally have tried this author after hearing about her for a long time! :)

So really the cover is just gorgeous!! If nothing else I would buy this book just so I could display the cover! I found the he simple style of writing refreshing, although this ended being annoying to me in the last half of the book. It makes it easier for younger readers, and not like the author is trying to confuse her readers with words we've never heard of before.

But it's just awful if you don't like the main character main character!! It was really sad, but I just felt like Felicity was so weak and went along with the flow of things without really thinking things through. Her decision toward the beginning of the book just made me be like, "Ooookay, wasn't that hasty?" :P Also, she did a TON of lying. While I can give her a benefit of the doubt in a general sense, I really think she went overboard in how she fabricated how she felt about everything. On a positive note, I DID think Felicity's interest in learning Chinese was epic, considering a lot of her character wasn't interesting.

The progress of the romance irked me a lot. Maybe I'm getting pickier and pickier, but I just didn't really feel the emotions the couple felt. Toward the end I really felt like both of them were basing things on what each other looked like, wanting to kiss each other, etc.

I was disappointed by the lack of spiritual content. There was a bit of prayer thrown throughout, talk about Providence, following God, and one instance the main character thinking that the Scripture said those who lied would have a place in hell. It just wasn't meaningful at all, and there was no mention of salvation (that I can recall).

I kind of felt like the ending was rushed. I would have liked more intense scenes and guns firing and fights and...well, things didn't quite go that way! And the bad guys were carted out of the story hastily.

All that to say, I think readers of Melanie Dickerson will enjoy this one, especially if they've read the rest of the series. I am still interested in trying out this author again in the future.

I have really enjoyed Melanie Dickerson's Regency spies books, and I was eagerly awaiting this 3rd one, so much so that I pre-ordered the audiobook, which was done by the same narrator as the other two.

I really enjoyed the suspense and action in this book, though I still think book 2 is my favorite of the series. I really liked the main guy and wished there were more scenes from his POV. I didn't feel like I got to know him quite as well as the main guys from the first two books.

Felicity drove me nuts during the first part of the book with her bad decisions. I probably would've liked her less, except that I can see some of her personality in me so I couldn't get too mad at her when I probably would have done some of the same things she did. Her fainting spells nearly also made me dislike her, but once I read a post by the author of how the author and her daughter suffer from similar dizzy and fainting spells for medical reasons such as low blood sugar and not drinking enough water and that was what the author based Felicity's fainting on, that made me look at it with a different light.

The narrator did a good job once again, though she struggles with the male characters.

I enjoyed this series and would recommend them especially for younger girls who like historical fiction but also want a bit more action than your average Christian historical.

Felicity is definitely in over her head, playing a very dangerous game, but at least she's constantly turning to the Lord for help. To be honest, she's not a good spy, and she's an even worse coquette, trying to string her fiance along without letting him take more than she wants to give. It's amazing she isn't called out long before, but at least she shows gumption in her spying.

I have trouble believing these particular insurrectionists could stage a mass uprising against the government; they just don't strike me as particularly effective or committed revolutionaries if they spend their evenings getting drunk and fighting with each other. I would think that if they were truly devoted (or that desperate for change), they would be more apt to exercise self-control. Outside of Lady Blackstone, they seem rather . . . inept. She and Ratley are the only members of the group with any kind of personality.

The story is not too deep, but it's fast-paced and full of suspense.

Thank you Waterfall and NetGalley for a free e-book. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions are my own.

This is the last book in this author's regency spy series. It was an enjoyable read, but probably my least favorite in the series. I liked the male lead character, and I despised all the criminals as I ought. However, I wasn't a fan of Felicity. She seemed weak at times, yet not all the time. At the beginning she was so resolved to wait to wed...then that seems to change which either was out of character or showed a weak character. I never really figured out which. For some reason her character remained an enigma to me throughout the book.

I enjoyed the short scenes of catching up with characters in previous books in the series.

The plot line being mentioned along side the French Revolution gave me a much better idea of the time period and how a revolution and revolutionaries would have been viewed. The story itself was intriguing. The chemistry between the two main characters could definitely be felt by the reader. The building of the relationship and the culmination of it are both very well done.

If you are a Regency fan, a romantic, or enjoy mystery reads, this book might be just for you!

A Dangerous Engagement was an enjoyable conclusion to The Regency Spies of London series. This installment featured Felicity, a character I really enjoyed in the first two books. Felicity finds herself not only stuck at a house party where all the guests are revolutionists planning to overthrow England’s government, but thanks to her conniving aunt’s matchmaking, she’s also trapped in an engagement with one of the leaders. She meets Philip, an agent trying to gather enough information to prevent these revolutionists’ scheme, and begins to secretly help him, during which the two fall in love.

I loved the Regency setting and found the story to be overall engaging, with a good balance between slow-moving, character development parts and suspense, although I did find the entire concept of the revolutionary plot a bit unrealistic. Despite that, it did provide an interesting set up for the romance.

I really liked both Felicity and Philip and thought their relationship was super cute, but unfortunately, due to their circumstances, they were unable to really develop it until towards the end of the book. Instead, the primary ‘romance’ was between Felicity and her pathetic and evil fiancé, whom she had to maintain the façade of being in love with in order to gain information and protect herself. While it made for a suspenseful plot, it didn’t satisfy my love of a good romance, considering most of the ‘romantic’ interactions were between those two rather than between the hero and heroine.

I really loved how Felicity's faith grew throughout the story as she learns to turn to God and trust in Him during her often frightening situation. Both her growth and the scenes where she was with Philip were my favorite in the book.

Overall, I did enjoy A Dangerous Engagement, and while it and the first in the series, A Spy's Devotion, are not books I'll likely reread (unlike the amazing The Viscount's Proposal), I'm glad I gave both a try, even though they're outside my usual genre.

A Dangerous Engagement ( The Regency Spies Of London #3 )
By: Melanie Dickerson
A Dangerous Engagement is book three and the last installment in The Regency Spies of London Series. I have really enjoyed this series , but I believe this one is my favorite. Even though this is part of a series it can be read as a stand-a-long with out any problems. Dickerson did not disappoint. This is a very suspenseful story and it will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to read faster to see what is going to happen next. The story and the characters are well developed. This is Felicity Mayson’s story. After Felicity is spured again because of her dowry she gets an invitation from Last Blackstone to come to her Country Home. Why would she get an invite from an aunt she does not know? There she meet a wealthy Oliver. Things move along really fast for Felicity. Things don't add up and are not what they seem to be. What will she do ?
I was given a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley, but was not told that I had to give a positive review.

'A Dangerous Engagement' is the third and final installment of 'The Regency Spies of London' series authored by Melanie Dickerson.

The thing I liked most about this book was the captivating cover.

I am not quite sure I could describe exactly why, but I found this book just was not my cup of tea. It wasn't really a bad read, I was just not interested in the content at the time I opted to commence the reading of it.

According to my records, I enjoyed the second book in the series. But this read found me yearning for something else and I eventually had to put this down in order for search of something else more satisfying for my current mood.

Some may find this an excellent choice and others may not. So, I did not rate it.

I'm quite new to the writings of Melanie Dickerson. I read the first book in this series and really enjoyed it. When I saw that the last book in the series was being offered, I jumped at the opportunity. I'm always up to read a regency or historical romance.

The heroine is this book is Felicity Mason. Felicity has been continually shunned by the opposite sex (in regards to proposals) because she is of little fortune. She is asked by her Aunt Lady Blackstone to a stay at Doverton Hall not knowing the coup that is transpiring there. Felicity and her Aunt Agnes go for a stay. In no time she accepts the proposal from Oliver Ratley. A weasel of a man that Lady Blackstone has coerced to marry Felicity for her own agenda.

Soon there after, Felicity meets Phillip who is trying to upend the wayward and dangerous rebels. Philip sees Felicity for all she is and wants to help her and her Aunt, but can't jeopardize his mission.
Felicity is all over the place in this book. One reviewer mentions she goes from skittish to brave back to skittish and I completely agree. She's so taken by Ratley's non judgmental view of her dowry that she immediately says yes to his proposal without knowing much about him. All the fainting.....

I enjoyed the read. Phillip was my favorite character. The reader was able to watch him fall in love with Felicity. I wish Felicity's character wasn't so bumbled because, when we see her progression at the end, she backslides so much I didn't know how to feel about it, I should've been cheering.

I was provided an eArc by Waterfall Press via Netgalley.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Seeing as how this book was written by Melanie Dickerson, I knew from page one I was in for a treat and she hasn't disappointed me yet.

Felicity is tired of being well, shunned by sociality. Without much drowry to her name, it is unlikely that she will ever find a husband. Reluctantly she agrees to travel with her aunt to a distant relative's home where a mysterious Mr. Radley, asks her to marry him at almost first sight. She agrees but can't help feeling that something is off. There are more men than woman where she is. Secrets lie around every corner and her fiancé is in on it.

Philip isn't quite sure about Felicity and her aunt and why they would be involved with rebels planning to taking down the government. But she doesn't seem to like with their plans and she may be an asset to him.

This was a brilliant book. I loved every paragraph, every sentence, every word.

I recommend this book for everyone.
