Kaily Hart, a seemingly straight-laced mother of four left corporate America and a high-powered, lucrative career to be a stay at home mom. Ha! That lasted about four weeks, during which time she realized she had a deeply repressed dream - to write. Romance! By day, Kaily plays conservative wife and soccer mom, but at night crafts hot and steamy tales of romance and love with gorgeous heroes who wouldn’t dream of leaving the toilet set up. Ever. She’s smart and sassy, at least in her own mind, and is trying her best to bring the alpha male solidly back to contemporary romance. Two years ago she never would have thought she’d be doing this, but now that she is? It just feels so right.
Mediocre writing and characters. I loved the premise, but the execution was weak. The writing style did not work for me. I could not connect like I wanted to. You may love it. Reading is subjective.
An ex-SEAL is brought into the hospital after saving a little boy's life. Marina is his nurse who takes care of him. They share an attraction. Marina asks him later to just have a sexual relationship with her. She has only been with her ex-husband. They start a sex only "friendship" and the story continues from there.
I have really loved this series. When you read these books you know what to expect. Short, sexy, and full of hot Alpha Heroes.
I did think the insta-lust was a little sudden and I didn't quite feel the connection between the MCs like I have in the other books. But without comparing this to previous books, it stands well on its own and was a great read.
Kaily Hart has done it again. Given me a hero who doesn't fit any sane person's idea of a hero. And a heroine who is just a woman who hasn't had it easy but has stood up to life and isn't broken. Roarke and Marina are two amazing people, neither one looking for any kind of attachment or relationship. Yet, when they meet in the hospital after he does his natural hero thing, she's his nurse and their connection is unmistakeable. What I found refreshing about Ms. Hart's main characters was that she never gave complete descriptions of either one. He thought she was beautiful, she thought he was ripped and hot. But there was none of the "most gorgeous man alive" or "undiscovered model", just two people. And it was amazing that the way they interacted took front and center; their reactions to how the other smelled, how their eyes locked or the heat from just a touch, again, it was refreshing and made a huge impact on the story. As things progress and the sexual attraction amps up, their roles reverse. Marina becomes this strong, almost aggressive woman who knows what she wants, while Roarke, literally and figuratively, backs up and tries to get out of the whole sex thing. I found the story line deep and well thought out, the characters wonderfully complex and believable. Marina's daughter, Sam , was a gem and REALLY scared Roarke. The sex is hot but doesn't overwhelm the story by any means, as they both realize it's about more than just the physical. Their ups and downs, Roarke's "coming of age" so to speak, are just what makes this one of Ms. Hart's best. There were several typos in the writing, but they did not detract from it. My only complaint...there isn't another male character in this story that she can write about in book 5! I highly recommend this book and the other books in this series.
The Men out of Uniform series was the perfect break in reading for me. The characters pull you in just enough to get attached. The books are just short enough to read in one sitting. And there is just enough romance to remind me why I love this genre so much.
With that said, I don't think this series is for everyone. There is insta-love, frustrating men, strong women, and hot sex. I know, what's not to like? It isn't everyone's cup of tea, though, so keep that in mind heading in. I guess if you're on book four you already know the score though.
This has been the first in the series that left me wanting more. I mean it in a good way. I really love Roarke. I couldn't wait to read his book after he was introduced in book three. I am all for gruff hard men getting a chance at love. Marina is a great fit for Roarke, but I don't feel like there was as much character development with her... possibly because we got a little more Roarke in another book. Like I said, I wanted more between the two! However, in true men out of Uniform style, the book got right to the point and was wrapped up nicely.
It was my favorite out of the series, and I can't wait to read more from Kaily Hart.
Roarke Daniels is a former Navy SEAL, a loner, who runs a general contractor business flipping houses. He is dark, brooding, alpha, muscled, sexy and surly.
Marina Cole is a divorced mom who works as a nurse in the local hospital. She is working on building a life for her and her daughter. Her ex-husband is a deadbeat dad with a new family and she has no desire to start another relationship.
These two meet when Roarke saves a child from getting hit by a car and takes the brunt of the hit. Marina is his nurse in the hospital.
I loved how Marina called Roarke out on his bullshit, refusing to cower to his attitude and giving it right back to him. She stood toe to toe with him and didn’t back down.
This is definitely insta-love. I had a few issues with some of the medical stuff but if you can accept the story as is, not a bad read. What I like about this author’s writing is she doesn’t get caught up in extraneous details, like describing the rehabbing going on in the house, describing the exterior of the house, landscaping, etc. You get the interactions between the main characters, steamy scenes and it all moves quickly.
Rourke, ex SEAL turned general contractor, can't leave the hero in him behind. That's how he meets Marina, his nurse when he crashes his way into the hospital. Rourke is shut down, angry and an asshole. At least that's how he expects people to see him. Marina is a single mom (to her 9 year old Samantha) with a douchebag of an ex. She's struggling to keep her life together when she meets Rourke. He represents what she's never had and wants, and despite his best efforts she won't be intimidated. Kaily Hart has developed a strong, grumpy, loveable and sexy hero with Rourke. Marina is his perfect foil, not bowing to his temper or coldness. Helping him find his way back to feelings, his protectiveness never failing.. The scenes between him and Sam are precious and truly highlight the real Rourke. Delightful story of discovery and rediscovery in this journey of one man's recovery through an understanding woman's love. Sensual, humorous and exhilarating book.
Enjoyed all 4 books in this series. Book 2& 4 were my favorites. All 4 books are quick reads. For such short books the characters are well written & interesting. There are a couple reasons I didn’t give the 4 book series a 5 star rating. For one the second books male lead had no connection to the characters in the other 3 books besides being a former Seal. But book 2 was one of my favorites in the series! I wish the author would have tied them all together a little better. Another reason is the books weren’t quite long enough. I feel that with a couple more chapters the author could have expanded the characters more & wrapped up the story a little better. But overall I really enjoyed these books read all 4 one after the other. Would definitely recommend reading them. Especially if your looking for a quick & hot read!
Rourke will break your heart! A man so loyal and honorable you cry for what he thinks his life is and that it's all he deserves. A strong protective always do what's right kind of guy until it he doesn't anymore. His protective nature was born in him he didn't learn it and he can't change it. Only Kailey Hart can write a man so broken....and yet so redeemable. I love Rourke and Marina they are perfect. This story will make you smile, cry, and sigh with its good deep down love story. Rourke and Sam...possibly the most tender man getting to know new kid lines... ever. The Men out of Uniform series never fails to deliver...this one touched my heart. Don't miss it.
A broken man and a woman burned from love. Then there was Sam.
A hero in denial has frozen his feelings as a form of protection. Injured from saving a boy's life, Roarke finds himself in the care of a feisty take no crap nurse. Burned from a bad marriage, Marina now sees a man that might get her out of a 6 year slump. Boldly, she propositions him for just sex. From there, their lives roll on the heat from their chemistry. Drawn together to be together. With the ER taken hostage, Roarke, the Seal, takes action to save her. With Sam's help, Roarke finally tells Marina what she needed to hear and accepts his marriage proposal. A family is now whole.
Hart has written an excellent steamy (HOT!), romantic suspense with a ton of emotion. If you enjoyed any of the other Men Out of Uniform series, you have to read this one! It was definitely worth the wait.
A well-written story with imperfect characters make this a must read. Roarke is a broken hero who finds love when he absolutely does not want it. Marina and Sam are the perfect match for this wounded man.
I highly recommend this book to fans of the steamy romance genre.
Break Down is so good but too short. I wanted so much more from Roarke and Marina. Roarke is the leading male, he is sexy, tattooed, hard all over and is all alpha. Marina is the leading lady, she is strong willed, beautiful , she stands up to the ruff and tough Roarke. Marina will break though all his walls and he has no idea how to handle her. Break Down is my favorite story of the series and I hope Hart does something more with this couple or gives us the rest of the Daniels crew we had Raine and Roarke's story how about the twins?? Happy Reading!!!
Wow just wow. This book just kept getting better and better. Every page brought a deeper level and look into these two Roarke and Marina. From the start, their dynamic relationship is one that you can't help but want to cheer on and laugh with. Definitely my new favorite in the series and one of the best of the over 200 books that I have read this year.
## I really liked this book. It was short but good. The hero was hot as all get out and the heroine was honest and sweet. Do I wish she hadn't had to beg him for sex that first time? Hell yes. She should've had some pride and found someone else. Never a good sign when you have to talk a dude into having sex with you. But the rest was fantastic. The plot was good and their chemistry sizzling. Very quick but satisfying story that I will gladly read again.
The characters, Roarke and Marina, were so well developed. I felt like I knew them personally. Their story was a great read for me. He is so battle weary and she is so divorce worn. They find a new life together. I didn't read the other books so his apology and his relationship with his sister was out of context for me. I ignored it because the rest was so good. Theirs is as sexual relationship until it is more than that!!
Tess Summers This was the perfect end to the Men Out of Uniform series. Another great book by Kaily Hart. She does a great job of helping the reader get to know, and subsequently fall in love with, her characters - male and female. Loved the chemistry between the hero and the heroine, great plot, terrific ending. Loved every single book in the series.
This started out as a KU library read and my introduction to Kaily Hart. After finishing it, however, I purchased a copy for my e library and have Pin Down qued up to read next. It's definitely a wow- sexy, sassy, smart and savory with a warm, fuzzy HEA. I loved it and can't wait to begin book one, then book.....
Hot! Our hero is broody as heck with a bod to make a girl swoon. One touch reaches deeper than he was ready for. Our heroine is a take no crap kinda woman. Setting the rules upfront she tells him extents she wants and it straight to the point! Something he wasn’t ready for. Good solid read.
A big, tattooed, Alpha combat vet, trying to get back to a normal life, but just can’t stop saving people. Lands in the hospital with a nurse who seems to see inside him. They agree for no strings sex, very hot sex! But the strings wind around him like a spider web, and suddenly Rourke is starting to “feel” and Marina has him very frightened. A quick read; hot sexy and very entertaining!
I mistakenly read this book first, but it was good enough to hook me! Roark was an awesome and his character totally matched the cover photo in my mind. I can understand how Marina felt, I doubt I could pass up someone like Roark. Then there was Sam. I knew Roark was hooked from that first morning in the hall outside her mother’s room! Great book, can’t wait to start rest of series.
Such a fun read as each battle their battle scars. They each have scars, one mentally the other physically. Unexpected is the word I'd use as they are both surprised of the impact they both have on each other. Now to go back and read the others in this unexpected fantastic read! And new author. Thank you Ms Hart. Thank you.
Roarke, omg, I had tears in my eyes reading his story, partly because it's so true what these men in service have gone through keeping us safe. My hear melted for this hardened she'll of a man, and all it took was a nurse to break his walls and soften his heart. I loved this book so much, you have no idea. Thank you Kaily!!
Who doesn't love a book with a Navy Seal and a head strong nurse
I love the big tough seal guy that turns into the one who saves the heroine. Marina is strong and tells it like it and breaks down Rourke s frozen heart. The story was a quick read with the perfect amount of everything you need in a HEA. .
Wow just wow! If you love guarded, broody, sexy, alpha men then this is the book for you. I love how the woman was a take no crap, stand her ground, and read between the lines type. I could not put this one down it has all the feels but isnt sappy. Now I'm off to read the rest of the series.
WOW! Roarke is a beast with the strength to protect others! Who doesn’t want a man like that?
I enjoyed the way Marina is a strong woman and went after what she wanted with Roarke even if there was very hurtful words coming from his mouth. A very enjoyable book that I couldn’t put down once I started reading!
I give this book a high rating because it's an excellent example of the genre. The reader can feel the characters' emotions even though their concentrations on action. This is not the type of book that I would usually read because of some of the language, but I found it to be a solid good read for an afternoon diversion.
I love story with a strong female the vulnerability of both main characters added to the depth and made them two people you wanted to cheer for and glad they found each other
This is a new to me author, and I am very glad to read her! I really enjoyed this book. The dual POV and the upfront communication manner, as well as the sexytimes were awesome! I can't wait to read more in the Men out of Uniform series.
The icing on the cake, just what the Dr ordered. Roarke and Marina not only compliment but also complete each other. The storyline line was each to follow, the chemistry was sizzling, good read
Holy hotness this book was freaking awesome. I loved everything about it. I would absofreakinglutely recommended this book to everyone! If I could give it more than 5 starts, I definitely would!
What a great story. Roaurk emotionally shut down meets his nurse Marina and sparks fly. Suddenly he has feelings but can Marina break through years of un emotional attachments and feelings sweet story. Loved this book. Love the Men out of uniform!
