Trusting My Own Heart

Rate this book
Courtney Summers: girl with the seemingly perfect life. My parents were supportive, my social life was never dull, and my best friend, Jenna, was more than I could have ever hoped for. I really couldn't complain. Compared to others, like Jenna, I didn't really have anything to complain about. Except that I did. Keeping up appearances by being the perfect daughter and social butterfly was exhausting. The more I pretended, the more I lost myself, the more mistakes I made. Until I met Josh. He challenged me and saw right through my act. An act I couldn't drop because if I did people would get hurt. I couldn't let that happen. I wouldn't. My heart wasn't strong enough for it. But the truth always comes out, and no matter how hard I tried my truth wasn't going to stay hidden much longer.

We are first introduced to Courtney in Trusting The Surface. She is Jenna's best friend. Her only friend. On the outside Courtney seems well put together and has the “perfect life.” Meanwhile nothing is as it seems. Courtney is the kind of person who lives her life to make everyone happy, she doesn't want to make waves and suppresses her own feelings. She is the definition of selfless. I really liked this book and seeing the real Courtney. In the first book she comes off as strong but there was a whole other side to her in this story.Courtney did a lot of growing up and reflection in this book and realized what she needed to do to make herself happy. It's ok to be selfish, it's ok to put yourself first and it's ok to listen to your heart no matter where it leads you. I really enjoyed this book and seeing how far Courtney and Jenna came along. Rosie C has a way with words that hook you from the very beginning and I find myself not being able to put her books down.

Courtney has made sure she keeps a reputation of being a party girl, the popular girl that everyone wants to be friends with. The problem is she keeps that reputation for everyone else and not herself. Its not who she really is and its not who she really wants to be. Not everything in Courtneys life is what she thinks it is. This is a story of a teenage girls struggle to find herself and her place in this crazy world.
I really loved this story because it truly shows the struggles that a lot of teenagers face in this world. Theres ups and downs and some heartache that will bring tears to your eyes. You can't help but feel the emotions that Courtney and other characters in the story go through. This book was a really beautiful read full of teenage angst, discovery and even love.

I absolutely loved this book! I really wish I had read book 1 first, but I wasn't lost at all. This was my first book by Dominique Laura, I was hooked from the very begging. This is a book about a teenage girls struggle to find herself and her place in this large crazy world. Courtney had a reputation of being a party girl and the popular girl everyone want to be friends with. The problem is she keeps that reputation for everyone else and not herself. Things aren't always the way they seem. This story is full of ups and downs. Some heartache that will bring you to tears. You can't help but feel all the emotions that Courtney is feeling. This is beautiful must read! I recommend this book to everyone.

Just as the last books I’ve read by Dominique Laura, this book pulls at your heart strings. Courtney has a hard time filling a role that wasn’t who she was. Josh comes into the picture and that pull everyone wants is so intense. It is a book that young readers can read. There is some talk about committing suicide so that may be a trigger but this book makes you happy for the characters. The characters are very well rounded. They remind me of people I went to high school with. The only problem I had with the book was that in the beginning a couple thinks were mentioned I think too much. All in all, a great story.

Good story

Courtney is a high school kid playing the part of having the perfect life to help out her friend. This story is about helping others, putting others in front of yourself, but doing so without losing who you are in the process. Courtney had to take a break and find herself before she could love Josh. This was a good story to read.

This is kind of a different POV from Trusting the Surface. I liked the story it gave closure to the other story.
