DEA Special Agent Taylor Kennedy is a forensic accountant. She's worked long and hard to get where she is. All seems to go well until Dillon shows up. Dillon is a part of the past that she doesn't want to remember. He was her foster brother ... both in an abusive foster home when they were kids. Dillon stood up for her, kept her safe, and took a lot of beatings rather than see her hurt. She hasn't seen him in many years.

But here he is ... on her porch waiting for her. Dillon is a member of a vicious drug carter, the right hand man for one of the worst cartels known. As an Accountant, she's responsible for tracking the money from this particular group ... and Dillon has discovered she works for the DEA.

Dillon gets his orders straight from the top .... have her taken out one way or the other and preferably permanently. He hasn't forgotten what they shared, but he's been in the dark for way too long. He will make sure her death is relatively painless.

Logan Granger is a new member of FAST, taking down the cartels and relieving them of their product and money. He also has a huge attraction to the very quiet accountant. Taylor is also attracted to him, which is somewhat of a surprise for her.

They are opposites in almost every way ... she's quiet, likes evenings at home with her cat and puzzles. She keeps everything in it's place.. her way of control in her life. Logan is bigger than life ... loves the outdoors, white water rafting, almost anything that gets the adrenalin moving.

His protective mode comes to light when Taylor is the target of the cartel. But even having her in a safe house doesn't keep her safe. Dillon will find her and do what is asked of him.

This is a new author to me and I'm pleased to say I wasn't disappointed. The story premise is a good one and the characters are cleverly written. Taylor is a woman who has had to be strong, basically alone in the world with very few friends. Logan is a macho guy with a lot of softness when it comes to the lady in his life. I love how they interacted .. he doesn't push, but rather lets her come to trust him in her own time. The romance is very sweet, although very intense at times.

Many thanks to the author / Kaylea Cross Inc. / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Fast Kill is the story of 2 agents with the DEA who are about as opposite as they come. Taylor is quiet, introverted, and enjoys working with numbers in her cubicle. Logan is loud and flirtatious and wants to be in the heart of the action on an op. Despite their differences, Logan and Taylor find they are attracted to each other. Thankfully Logan isn't too shy to make the first move!

But, before they can have their first real date, Taylor gets a call from a man she used to know. A man who picked the wrong path in life and is into some dangerous stuff. Dillon is working with a drug cartel now. Taylor sees him on a surveillance video of a drug sting and doesn't identify him to her boss. She used to view Dillon as her 'knight in shining armor' and hopes that he isn't as involved as she fears.

Dillon is deeper than your average villain. He struggles with his personal connection Taylor; he genuinely did care for her when they were children. He also had promised her in the past he would "go straight" and get out of the drug game. Dillon is truly stuck in a bad place now: either follow orders from the cartel or protect Taylor. His love for Taylor might be strong, but his fear of the cartel is stronger.

One thing I have always enjoyed about Cross' books is the quick plot. She doesn't waste a lot time setting the stage so to speak. You learn about the characters in a more organic way as you read about their adventures. This type of writing allows me to feel more engaged in the action and suspense because there is nothing to slow it down. Cross also writes great characters. Even though you aren't TOLD everything about Taylor, as you learn about her, you really connect. For me, Taylor made sense!
She didn't expect an extrovert like Charlie to understand it, but she wanted her friend to at least try to respect that for Taylor, being around a group of people for more than half an hour was tantamount to having the life force sucked right out of her.

I have made this exact statement to many people in my life. I work with people all day as a teacher and by 3:00, I can't handle any more crowds or noise. The thought of having to stop at the store on my way home after enduring hours of socialization is punishment. So yeah, I 'get' Taylor. I also loved that Logan didn't try to change her. He wanted her to come out of her shell, but he didn't want her to be different. Coming out of your shell with people you care about is totally different than hitting up clubs every weekend and having lots of parties. So, kudos to Logan for understanding the difference. Logan and Taylor grow closer as Taylor finds herself in more danger and their relationship and feelings progress in what feels like a natural way. I thought Cross struck a good balance between mortal peril and sexy times (difficult to do in a romantic suspense sometimes!)

Fast Kill is engaging, timely, and realistic in its portrayal of the characters and the government agents who are fighting the war on drugs! If you enjoy romantic suspense that dives right into the story, Kaylea Cross' Fast Kill is the perfect pick for a weekend binge read or day at the beach or pool! Also, as is true in most Cross books, you get a peek at the couple that will be featured in the next book (well, at least who I think it will be!)!

I enjoy this series. Hot heroes, intelligent heroines, suspense and an action packed ending. But, it is all a bit formulaic for me.

DEA Special Agent Taylor Kennedy has hidden her past from her co-workers and friends. She is ashamed of it and has never shared it with anyone. That all comes to an abrupt end when Dillon makes contact with her after years of silence. Taylor and Dillon were in the same foster home and he protected her and became a surrogate big brother. Their paths diverged when he went to the dark side and she joined the DEA as a forensic accountant. When Taylor discovers that Dillon is part of the infamous Veneno Cartel more than her job is in danger.

FAST Bravo member Logan Granger is hot to get to know Taylor better. He is attracted by her straight-laced, all business attitude. He has to work hard to get Taylor to lower her barriers, but when she is in danger nothing can stop him from risking his life to save her.

Part of the Feel the Heat: 10 Steamy Romantic Suspense Novels collection.

Another SpecOps and sexy librarian combination, which KC does very well. I have not read the other books in this series. The bad guys are identified early, but there is a twist that makes it pretty tense. The rest of the FAST crew is present, mainly to provide the various skills needed to complete the job.

The MCs are on a slow build, and the H is a strong alpha, but they work through it all and there are some good sex scenes.

I'll probably read more stories in this series.

FAST KILL had great suspense and a wonderful romance. I adored Taylor especially but I also loved Logan. They might seem like opposites but the attraction creates an immediate connection for them to build off of; they were just so great together. I really loved the way Logan respected Taylor's space and seemed to understand that she wanted to go at a slower pace, but he also makes it clear that he's interested in a relationship.

Per Kaylea Cross’ usual, the action and suspense was intense and kept me reading to find out what would happen next. I especially liked the way Cross explored toxic relationships and how hard it is to realize that someone you idealized and loved as a child has become something you can't love as an adult. I'm looking forward to reading more about the FAST bravo team and getting all their stories.

Ms. Cross is a new-to-me author who was recommended, so when I got my hands on this book, I was eager to read it. I enjoyed it a lot. Loved the hero. Loved the villain. Loved the heroine's conflict--I thought it was absolutely unique. Sexual tension was there. Suspense was well-done.

But... I felt like something was missing. Maybe because the version I read had a different cover, I missed that this was the second book in her FAST Bravo series, and clearly I missed some plot setup and character development by not reading Book 1. Typically, I love stories with a community of characters--I could tell which couple were the H/h of the first book, and who is being set up to be the H/h of the next book. But this story, in and of itself, needed a little more background for me to know who some of the players were.

I will be reading Kaylea Cross again. But I will make sure I'm starting at the beginning. ;)

Opposites do attract in Kaylea Cross's 'Fast Kill' as Taylor Kennedy and Logan Granger - who have only known each other for a short time - are thrown together in a case that inadvertently drags Taylor into a mess. With the return of a childhood friend, Taylor's quiet, introverted life is upended and Logan finds that he'll do anything to help her pick up the pieces, even when it puts him at risk.

I do like 'Fast Kill's' storyline, even though I'm still more partial to Cross's military thrillers. Despite the focus on the drug war and cartels, the story is fast-paced, full of intrigue and as always, written around a central pairing that I did find believable and likeable. Taylor and Logan are express opposites in every way, from their careers to their hobbies, but I liked how they find common ground together, particularly when Logan never stops coaxing Taylor into doing things out of her comfort zone.

There's also a kind of sympathy that Cross builds up for the villain and that's the case here, particularly when he's also someone from Taylor's past who in fact, cared for and took care of her. It's a little hard to believe that he turned so evil at the blink of an eye, but it's this change that drives the conflict and indirectly, the relationship between Logan and Taylor.

Overall, I did find myself entertained, though part of me wishes for a continuation of her past series instead! Cross however, always delivers a HEA - whether it takes place immediately after the action or a few weeks or months down the road - and that kind of resolution goes a long way in cementing quite emphatically, how much a particular pairing ought to be together. In the case of Logan and Taylor, I didn't need much convincing.

This series hits you center mass!! Loved the journey through this book. It has friendship, betrayal, suspense, guns, knives, murder, you name it. I love that Kaylea has such strong plot lines. The romance builds during the story while twists and turns keep you turning page after page. This book shows you Taylor, the mild-mannered forensic accountant. Unsociable, preferring only a few friends at a time, disliking any large groups. She prefers to be buried in her spreadsheets, unlocking the financial secrets of the bad guys. She's a complete neat freak, needing everything in its place. Enter Logan, the adrenaline junkie. Preferring to risk it all for the greater good, leaving chaos and wet towels in his wake. After an awkward fake date, she can't deny the pull she has toward him. He hasn't felt this way about a woman since his divorce 3 years prior but can he break down the shelter she has built around herself? Can he protect her now that she is a target? Can she betray her childhood friend and protector, or will she lie to protect him? This one had me running the gamut of feels for sure! Can't wait for the next one!

This was an enjoyable story that drew me in from the start and kept me hooked throughout. Additionally, the two main characters Logan and Taylor were really likable and I loved the relationship that developed between them and this romance certainly proved that opposites do attract.

As for the story, it was a bit of a slow build with pockets of action, particularly towards the end. But overall I genuinely enjoyed the ride it took me on. So, I would happily recommend it to others, especially if you're a fan of this author or have read, and enjoyed Falling Fast the first in this DEA Fast Series.

**This ARC was given to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

I LOVE Kaylea Cross. She knows how to write action and suspense and she knows how to write romance and steamy love scenes. The combination is always satisfying.

That being said, this was an ok read for me, but of course I'm comparing this book to her other novels, which have been fantastic.

I liked the complexity of the characters, but the plot was not great. I'm not sure I understand why Taylor was such an important target. And I'm also not sure how the danger all of a sudden just ends. This book was entertaining...just not one of my favorites by this author.

Taylor Kennedy is a forensic account with the DEA. She was also a foster child that no one knows about, and now her past is coming in contact with her present. Her childhood friend who actually saved her when they were younger is now torn with the people he is working for the cartel and still wanting to protect her. Now though his life is in danger for not taking hers and while he is dealing with his emotions, there is a hit squad now in town to take them both out. Logan Granger who is a member of Bravo fast team. Has figured out that there is something wrong. He is wanting to keep her safe while still letting her know that he has feelings for her. The story is fast paced and is good for all of the action and two different story lines that are going on. A good book with good characters. Take a chance with this book to see how the book ends. This was an exceptional read! Hooray for Taylor and Logan. What a perfect complimentary couple. She's an introvert, OCD, neat person and Logan an ex-DEA agent, now a FAST Bravo agent, is an adrenaline junkie.
Could they work out, what with the both of them being so different? You'll have to read it to find out. Lol
Filled with suspense, an intense betrayal, murders, drug and secrets so deep into the Veneno cartel, this story picks up and continues from Falling Fast. I loved this one, way more than the first and that's saying a lot. Seeing that Jamie and Charlie's story was pretty awesome as well. Just a great read all around 4.5 stars

Talk about your past coming back to haunt you!

Taylor decides to defy her past and become a DEA agent determined to not let drugs effect others lives the way they impacted her childhood. She's not a field agent, instead she handles the data analysis portion of investigations.

When her former foster brother appears in a picture with a known drug lord her past immediately comes to the surface and threatens everything.

There's a great love story that blooms with Logan as well which adds to the story.

The ending was a little sudden for me but otherwise i loved the book!

Logan and Taylor rock!!

Logan is the newest DEA Fast team member and is injured in his first mission with his team, and moved to restricted duty until he is healed. Taylor is the DEA accounting guru with spreadsheets and since Charlie and Jamie's encounter with the Venero cartel she is more determined to help out. Logan and Taylor are attracted to each other but Taylor is very guarded due to her past, but he slowly inches his way around her shield. Fantastic read, didn't want to put it down. Absolutely eager for the next one, bring it on!!!

Logan was the sun to gloom that held onto Taylor for so long

I got to say I wasn’t sure that Taylor and Logan would work because they were so different. Somehow she made it work. I enjoyed that Logan never gave up and I enjoyed that Taylor was able to overcome her past though it cost her dearly and it wasn’t easy. I would’ve like if the author expanded on the romance a little but the suspense was decent though just like first book with exception of Logan, Taylor was kidnapped.

Fast Kill is the second title in the DEA Fast series, although I believe it can be read as a standalone, having not read the previous title, I in no way at any time felt lost with the story line. Fast Kill is a story full of action, intrigue, drama and suspense and features the evolving romance of Taylor Kennedy and Logan Granger. This pair are complete opposites, but Ms Cross creates a pair of characters that although very different one quite geeky, and the other a complete alpha they complement each other perfectly.

Taylor is a forensic accountant, she's incredibly intelligent, quiet and reserved, and has a propensity to be a neat freak, quite obsessive compulsive. She is really quite a loner who prefers her own company to that of others, particularly large groups cause anxiety to raise it's head.

Logan is the newest member of the FAST Bravo unit, who are responsible for taking down drug cartels. He's an adrenaline junkie at heart and loves adventures in the great outdoors. He's in no way a neat freak, but completely caring and protective.

This is a well written, and fast paced romance that is sweet, yet intense at times. The twists and turns and conflict based around friendship and betrayal, kept me completely enthralled. A great blend of action, intrigue and suspense, and I look forward to more titles in this series.

The purpose of Thrifty Thursday is to read a book which was free (at some point).

Overall rating 4.31 with 834 ratings and 95 reviews

I have enjoyed other series by this author who writes mostly in my favored romantic suspense genre.  Fast Kill is the second in the DEA FAST  series. It's unusual to get the second book, but it was in an anthology of romantic suspense stories - Feel the Heat - which is not longer available.

The characters and the team are familiar from the first book Falling Fast.  The guys on the DEA Fast team are the main guys in the books, which isn't surprising; each of the the women though, are also some kind of government agent.  As with most romantic suspense, there is a dangerous situation, where emotions are high, and the couple gets quickly involved.

I liked Logan and Taylor.  They were each smart and cared about others.  Their relationship built a bit slowly for this genre which was nice.  They each had things from the past which were difficult and Taylor's past came into play quickly.  I did notice in this series so far, the guy is committed first and pursues the relationship.  I wonder if it will continue.  I'm hoping I can continue in the series while all the characters are fresh in my mind.

There were many dangerous situations, for Taylor especially, and I can't really believe they would be over for her, but maybe the bad guys are too exposed to continue to go after her.  I always enjoy the heart-stopping action Kaylea Cross writes.

These are only Kindle freebies I get, or ones through author newsletters which anyone can sign up and get for free. I don't include things like Kindle Unlimited or Prime Free Reading (I do have it). Both Tantor and Audible have occasional free audios (to anyone) and I do include those.  Since I one-click on 1-2 freebies a day or probably at least 5 a week, I came up with this feature to make sure I start reading them.

So I have thought about doing a Thrifty Thursday Challenge someday. For now,  what I think would be fun is if you have read and reviewed  a freebie, link up to your review (Goodreads, blog, facebook or wherever) below.

A gripping, romantic suspense that's a definite must read! The story will capture you right from the start, and hold tight till the very end. With the unique storyline, complex characters that are easy to connect with, humor, an array of emotions, mystery, intense situations, danger, and intriguing twists, you won't be able to put this down till the last word is read. Another fantastic book by Kaylea Cross in this exciting new DEA FAST series!

Logan is the newest recruit to the DEA's FAST Bravo team, which is where he's wanted to be, after working undercover for the DEA the last several years. He loves doing outdoor activities, and is a definite adrenaline junkie, exactly the opposite of the woman who he's falling for.

Taylor has been with the DEA for the last 3 years, but doing what she loves, forensic accounting. After fighting hard to get over her past, she's just an introvert who likes to spend quite time by herself doing things that she loves. It catches her off guard when she starts having feelings for the sexy new FAST team member, especially since they are completely different from one another, but they say that opposites do attract.

When someone from her past shows up with little warning, especially since she has linked him to the cartel they're investigating, she's having mixed emotions, and doesn't know what to do. He used to be her hero as a child, but he's since gone and gotten involved with the wrong side of the law, only it's worse than she could have ever imagined. Will she learn to trust and open up to Logan before something bad happens to her? Can he and the DEA keep her safe from her former friend, and the cartel? Will Logan be able to convince Taylor that they are compatible, and to give them a chance? Will either be able to get the HEA they both deserve? You'll have to read this to find out!

Although I haven't read the first book in the series, I had no problems with understanding and keeping up with everything in this book. I do plan to go back and enjoy the first one, as I know that it will be a great read. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series, and can't wait to see where it goes from here.

I strongly recommend this book, series, and exceptional author!

Here's what I love about this book the most - Taylor is a character that I can identify with in many ways. She's introverted, likes things clean and tidy and loves her own space. She's also strong and independent, knowing that she doesn't need to depend on a man to get her through life.

Taylor had a rough life growing up. Her parents became addicts and eventually ended up in foster care where her life there was not any better. Except for her foster brother - Dillon. He protected her and often times took the brunt of their foster father's abuse in order to protect her. Years later, Taylor is working for the DEA and Dillon returns to her life. Though his return is not for the sake of simply catching up. He's with one of the world's biggest cartels and he's been ordered to kill her. While I personally didn't care for Dillon (and I don't think we were meant to), I could appreciate that he wanted to kill her himself to spare her from the ruthlessness that the cartel's hitmen would force her to endure.

Meanwhile, Taylor and Logan are becoming closer. She's hesitant to open up to him out of fear that the huge differences in personalities will only drive them apart. Logan finds himself falling for her and has a driving need to protect her...which ramps up into overdrive when Dillon makes his first attempt on Taylor's life.

As with most romantic suspense novels I read, the female always ends up getting captured near the end of the book and the climax ends with the big rescue. What I love about these novels is that while yes, the central male in each novel rides to the rescue, the female always ends up practically rescuing herself (granted with some assistance from the male). This was no different. Logan jumped in to save Taylor and she ended up taking the final shot in end.

Quick thought about Taylor and Logan as a couple. I love that they didn't try to change each other. Logan accepted Taylor for who she was and showed that by slowing down and taking things at her pace. Taylor in return chose to step outside her comfort zone and engage in a little adrenaline activities to show Logan that she accepted him for who he was. I love when two people that are polar opposites can come together and still remain themselves.

Now excuse me as I start DEA FAST #3...

4 Stars Fast Kill is an adult romantic suspense thriller by Kaylea Cross and the 2nd book in her DEA FAST series.

Packed with plenty of action, suspense and romance, Cross’s DEA FAST series focuses on the members of one of the DEA’s Foreign-Deployed Advisory and Support Teams: FAST Bravo. The series continues with forensic accountant SA Taylor Kennedy and FAST Bravo member SA Logan Granger—polar opposites in every way except that they both work for the same agency. But when Taylor becomes the target of the Veneno cartel—one of the most powerful and ruthless organizations in the Western hemisphere—Logan will risk everything to save her.

Raised in the foster system, Taylor worked hard to obtain a college degree and get hired by the DEA. But because of that unstable, frightening period of her life she’s become an expert at burying her emotions deep down inside where they can’t interfere with the controlled façade she works so hard to project to the rest of the world. Then Logan comes along and throws her safe, controlled world off kilter. He’s the opposite of safe and controlled; a true adrenaline junkie who’s determined to milk every ounce of excitement and action possible out of life. But despite what seems like extreme differences between the pair—she spends her days pouring over spreadsheets and following money trails, while he spends them kicking in doors and arresting the most dangerous criminals in the narcotics world—they make sense together as a couple...in the best possible way. Overall, Fast Kill was a well-written, action-packed, romantic story with a satisfying HEA. I look forward to reading Cross’s next book, Stand Fast.

If you are a fan of romantic suspense, FAST Kill will hit you center mass. FAST is the DEA’s version of a specialize tactics unit. This story has suspense, drama, and hot romance.

Logan Granger is the newest member of FAST Bravo unit. He joined the DEA straight out of college with the intent to join FAST at the first opportunity. In other words, he is focused on his career and is thrilled to be living the life. Taylor Kennedy is a DEA Special Agent specializing in forensic accounting. She is as brainy as they come and I love it. It would be easy to say that opposites attract, but it takes a special touch to get just the right balance of nerdiness to alpha goodness. Kaylea Cross does a great job in making the relationship between these two work.

The suspense element of the story revolves around the DEA investigation into a South American cartel. The overarching plot is familiar but I really enjoyed the added emotional element thrown in to Taylor’s character. Taylor is chasing the bad guys through mounds of paperwork. The unique twist is that the number two man for a high ranking lieutenant also happens to be Taylor’s foster brother. He is the one who protected her while in foster care. She has a special place in her heart for him. It is easy to imagine her conflict, especially since even today she finds it difficult to make deep connections with people. The added conflict gives this story another level of tension that kept me glued to the pages.

Every Member Of A Drug Cartel Is Pure Evil! .... Maybe Not!

This second installment of the DEA FAST series was a very thought-provoking, gut wrenching read on a very emotional level. The relationship between Dillon and Taylor broke my heart. Dillon is the poster boy for a struggling youth without his God given right to be loved, guided, and cared for and the long term consequences of this upbringing. I found myself literally hurting for him despite the knowledge of all the cruelty he inflicted and was responsible for.
I loved Taylor and was so happy for her and the relationship she built with the caring, patient alpha male Logan! No one could have been more suited for her. She was so deserving.
This story is worth the read even though it did not have the heart stopping action sequences that Book 1 graced us with. That was the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. The conclusion was uneventful too. It had the predictable HEA but it lacked substance and just seemed to end too abruptly.
I am looking forward to continue the series with the third installment. Thanks Ms. Cross! Love all your Series!!

Kaylea Cross needs no introduction and neither do her stories of war torn heroes, their trials and tribulations and their happily ever after.

Her latest DEA Fast Series g takes the readers into another team of military heroes as they battle the evil and finds love along the way. Second in the series, “Fast Kill” brings DEA special agent Taylor Kennedy and FAST Bravo agency Logan Granger together again as they battle Kennedy’s past that seems to threaten their future.

Kennedy’s shitty and violent childhood motivates her to go on a path to serve justice and that same past seems to bring danger to her door as her protector and savior from foster years ends up on the wrong side of the law. With a target on her head, from a deadly cartel, Kennedy gets under the protection of Logan and together they have to end the nightmare of violence, drugs and death.

Another fast paced read from Kaylea Cross, just enough passion and adrenaline to pleasure the readers.

Received an ARC from Kaylea Cross Inc. via NetGalley for an honest review.

Taylor and Logan in "Fast Kill" is a great romantic suspense read! This is my first read by Kaylea Cross, and I wonder with all the books I read, how I missed them. A fast paced story full of murder, action and some hot sexy parts, it will keep you turning the pages. The plot lines were detailed and complete and keeps the reader invested, especially in Taylor's story and heartbreak. It was hard to imagine that Taylor could have such a childhood background with Dillon protecting her while growing up, and then face a grownup Dillon that would be willing to kill her. Logan is just the DEA FAST agent to keep her safe while falling in love. Taylor and Logan fight their way for the good guys to win and get their HEA. I look forward to reading more in this series and I recommend this one if you love romantic suspense. I would like to thank NetGalley and the author for gifting me "Fast Kill". My opinion is my own. This is mine 4.5 Stars!
