Personal Reaction:
Personally, I think this would be an invaluable resource to have within a classroom due to the fact that it covers not only the life of one of the biggest voices during the age of slavery, but also because of the important events it portrays and other important voices during that time. This book did a great job at immersing the reader into the time where slavery was everywhere by the language used and leaving open ended questions for the reader to contemplate.

Purpose/Use in Classroom:
The purpose of this particular book is to go more in depth on the early civil rights movement by investigating the life of the famous, Sojourner Truth, therefore this would be a great tool for a teacher to use during a social studies unit. This book would could be both read aloud as a class or independent, but would probably be best if it was read out loud. This is because it covers many delicate materials that the teacher must explain and answer students' questions during the reading. This book would fit great in a lesson over plot due since its based on a factual timeline that is even included at the end of the book.

Nonfiction Conventions:
Some important tools that could be used within this book is the glossary. This is useful because it helps students define words that they might not know otherwise. The book is also sorted chronologically and includes a accurate and detailed timeline that makes the life of Sojourner Truth easy to follow.
