I enjoyed this. It's now a bit dated as there are so many more long distance paths. I enjoyed the old school nature of this book though, giving me a better understanding of where the original long distance paths in England came from. I also really appreciated the natural history, wildlife and architecture the author mentions that you will see along the way. It was surprising to me that - with the excpetion of the two Downs Ways - I'm familiar with chunks of the more dramatic parts of these ways from climbing, so it was enjoyable to read about these iconic parts of the landscape. Would be nice to have included Scotland and Ireland also.

I just couldn't get into this book, even though it was about a subject I find interesting. It is also rather dated now and of little use to anyone wanting to use the paths described.
