I have always loved a good mystery. From my early years watching Murder She Wrote to more recent shows like Monk, Psych, and my absolute favorite BBC show ever, Sherlock, I have studied what it takes to make an entertaining mystery. I am truly blessed to be able to write and share my own mysteries with you. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I loved writing them :)
A twisted murder on a train which Rachel and Pippa must solve! One trying to be the voice of reason while the other is more rash and jumps into things before she thinks. Although the MC’s ego did start to grate on me a bit. The characters were diverse and made up for quite interesting suspects. An easy, quick read.
Murder Train is the tenth book in Stacey Alabaster's The Bakery Detectives mystery series. I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Having misplaced Murder Train I read Houses and Homicide (Book 11) first which I mentioned in the review for Houses and Homicide. I looked for my digital copy of Murder Train more aggressively after reading Houses and Homicide as there were few references appearing in the book regarding Murder Train that I didn't understand.
The Bakery Detectives series is one of my favorite cozy mystery series and Rachel and Pippa are quite entertaining. With that said, I was quite dissappointed after reading Murder Train.
In previous books in this series the "mystery" being explored by the protaganist and her sidekick, Rachel and Pippa had a logical place in the story. In Murder Train the "mystery" seemed secondary to the dialogue. It felt as though the main purpose of the book was to provide evidence of Rachel's competitive nature instead of solving a crime.
In previous books, Alabaster has delivered unique, entertaining and not always easy to solve crimes. In my opinion, she failed to deliver a great crime this time around.
Pippa & Rachel are on their way to the big city to meet up with Cheryl, who has offered to buy Rachel's bakery when the train that they are on grinds to a stop because a dead body turns up.
I have always enjoyed the Bakery detective series, but this one is not one of my favourites. In fact, I feel that Rachel acted a lot out of character, being silly and irresponsible about the meeting that they were going to. I can understand her apprehension about the merger/buy-out deal and therefore not rushing to meet with Cheryl, but all through this book, Rachel has been bull headed and not really like the character that I know. The mystery and its ending was good and unexpected as always. So 3 stars I am afraid
Rachel is wildly schizophrenic and unlikable in this one
I have to take a break from Stacey Alabaster's books for awhile. This is number ten and I have all of the series but I just can't deal with the changes in Rachael's personality. In this book Rachael was petty, jealous, conceited, and lied at every turn, even to Pippa. I was determined to finish the book and l am happy that I did because it got better. This just wasn't a good time for me, too frustrating to see lies to a best friend and a character that I loved slip away. Maybe number eleven will be another great story, but I won't be reading it for awhile. I have hundreds of books on my Kindle Fire that are waiting for me.
Rachael and Pippa are in the middle of a murder again. Though not as suspects this time, they had their hands full of suspects and stuck in the middle of nowhere. A two-hour train ride turns into several days of sleuthing and cooking. This story is very enjoyable and interesting. I could not put it down. The dilemma Rachael and Pippa were trying to solve with the bakery added to the depth of the mystery. The characters were so diverse, it made for quite an interesting gaggle of suspects. I cannot wait to see what exciting adventures Rachael and Pippa have in store in the next book. I highly recommend this book.
I’m a fan of the bakery detective mysteries. I love Rachael & Pippa and have all the books! But, with that being said... I was very disappointed with Rachael she was petty & jealous in this one. Rachael was more worried about the “amateur” detective on the train and what he knew before she did & her wanting to look better then him that she didn’t even seem to care about actually investigating the actual murder. Then, Worst of all she kept lying to Pippa! Not Cool! Murder Train only gets 2 ⭐️⭐️Stars from me. On a Happy note... Marcello’s Back & Pippa has some news I’m crossing my fingers on!
I received a free copy for an honest review. Rachel and Pippa are on their way to a big meeting in the city, when the train they are on is stopped in the middle of nowhere due to a murder. They are all trapped there while people are trying to figure out what happened and who the murderer is. It’s a little different than her other series. An easy, quick read.
I loved this book it is a great twisting cozy mystery. Stacey Alabaster is very good at what she does and I think this probably one of the hardest books to the murderer out other crowd of suspects.
Once again Rachael and Pippa stumble across another murder. Confusion, misdirection, and mayhem ensues. Add in a really annoying train passenger and you have a recipe for an entertaining story. I had fun reading this!
Well a big corporation had offered to purchase Rachel's Pastry shop. So Pippa and Rachel were on a train to the city, to meet with the corporate executives. Yes, you guessed it, there was a murder on the train and our amateur slueths are right in the middle of it.
Not as good as Stacey Alabaster's other books in the series -- disappointing since the suspense was lacking and there wasn't a lead-up to the ending. Usually I really enjoy her books
Rachael owns a bakery in a small town. Her best friend Pippa is also her work mate. Rumor has it a bakery chain is coming to town but turns out they want to buy Rachael's bakery. When Rachael and Pippa take a train to the city to discuss the buyout they are stopped in the middle of their trip by a murder. And then the fun begins.
It is always enjoyable following Rachel & Pippa to see what they will get into next. Their adventure on the train is no exception. Another fun book in this series.
another great book in the series. you won't be disappointed. racheal and Pippa are on a train heading to the city when as usual trouble seems to follow them about and they discover a body. the story is full of twists and and is a very enjoyable read . can't wait for the next one.
I love Staceys' books, I find them entertaining and enjoyable. Stacey writes with a style that flows with descriptions which allows you to develop the scenes in your imagination. You can almost smell the grass and feel it swishing against your legs as you walk, hear the rustling sounds that seem to follow you. Great atmospherics and character interaction too. This story is full of little twists and kinks in the plot that send you off in another direction
Imagine you are on a train with a friend going to a meeting in the city, one that you are not sure you want to got to or that you're going to like, when suddenly the train stops for no apparent reason. Whatever could of happened?
This is what happens to Rachel and Pippa, they decide to investigate and discover a body! The story leads you to conclusion through a series of twists and turns, some very unexpected, some that put Rachels' skills to the test. Lol. Also includes some laugh out loud humour. An escapade full of surprizes including another amateur sleuth!
Read and enjoy. Thank-you Stacey another good read.
In this story Rachel is enjoying a really good sales week when one of her customers tells her another bakery is coming to town. The Pastry Tree is a large bakery chain, and they have their eyes set on Rachel's town. She knows she can't compete with such a large chain and goes to the city council to try and stop it.That doesn't work. Then The Pastry Tree calls Rachel and tells her they want to buy her bakery. They are offering a enormous amount of money. Rachel and Pippa get on the train to go to The Pastry Tree's headquarters for a meeting. Then some one is killed on the train. This starts a whole lot of problems for them. Can they find the murderer and why? Do they make the meeting on time? What will happen if Rachel sells? Read the story to find out. I received an ARC of this book. The review is entirely voluntary
A crazy twisted murder on a train which Rachel and Pippa must solve!
A fast fun adventure once again with Rachel and Pippa. This series has been a fun read from the first book of the series through this one. I love the interaction between Rachel and Pippa and how well they play off of each other! One trying to be the voice of reason while the other is more rash and jumps into things before she thinks of any consequences. How much fun that is to follow. This 10th book in the series gives you even more twists and turns and crazy things happening than before. What will Rachel actually do with her pastry shop, what is the secret she just must tell Rachel? These are the cliff hangers we are left with once the murder is solved. Can't wait for book #11! I received a review copy of this book but the opinions here are stricly my own.
Follow Rachel and Pippa on a unique train trip. Filled with interesting characters and lots of twists and turns as they work to solve a murder. Another good read from Stacey Alabaster.
I requested and received an Advance Reader Copy of this book. My review is voluntary and the opinions my own.
I really enjoyed this book. It has so many twists and turns that it makes for a very different story of a murder on a train. As the story progresses so did i change my mind about who is the murderer. A really good read!!
