After surviving the blood priests, Carth heads south with a renewed focus, determined to learn more about the Hjan before they gain too much strength and violate the accords.
They reach Asador as one of her crew suffers from a mysterious illness. Finding answers leads her deeper into an underworld she knew existed but had not expected to find so easily. Now she needs to help not only her friend but the many others within Asador who have been used. Carth discovers there are unexpected ways to counter her magic, and she must first save herself before she can help anyone else.
Finally giving up in this series. Just can't motivate myself to read the sixth and final book right now. This one was so disappointing. The main character is often clueless, sometimes she gets knocked unconscious super easily and other times she's easily defeating 6 armed men. But she almost never knows what's going on! Most disappointingly, the plot barely moved forward again. And really, for my taste, not enough action for a fantasy book. Really confusing too. Not sure about the ending or what even happened. Wanted to like it but I just don't. Plan on trying other books by this author since he's so prolific and popular.
This book meanders a bit much for my liking. It is well-written and the characters are well-fleshed out.
The author continues to have an issue where he is too verbose in rehashing stuff that happened before but nor verbose enough when the fighting starts
This is the worst in the final act, where we seem to stumble upon it, having stayed too long in the first act. The final act then begins and climaxes in 2 pages if so much. When we had about 10 pages talking about what happened already, the protagonist's constant second-guessing and her inability to use her skills at a strategic level.
I like the heroine, but the story does get a little repetitive. Carry is strong, carth is betrayed, carth is captured, carth learns, carth achieves victory, carth finds out that she didn’t really achieve victory. Repeat for each book....she gets captured too much and everyone seems to be ten steps ahead of her.
Book 5 was a fun read with errors throughout. Carth has grown well within the series and has learned much of herself and strategy. She has befriended many and has made enimies in book 5. I look forward to book 6.
Here is another series by this author that stands out, making you love the characters and story! This was a read that engages you and will hold you til the end. Great reading everyone!
Loved it. It’s a clean fantasy story about a young girl caught in the middle of what seems to be a slave trade. She makes it her mission to free the oppressed.
