Age of Magic: The Rise of Magic #3

Rebellion: Kurtherian Gambit

Rate this book

When you sow tyranny, you better be prepared to reap the rebellion.

Hannah and Ezekiel dig deeper into the corruption of the Noble Quarter, and the sick truth of Adrien’s master plan becomes clear.

They need to call upon the diverse group of those loyal to the cause in order to stop the Chancellor’s reign of terror--before any more innocents die by his hand.

Meanwhile, Karl and Parker enlist a powerful ally to help them battle against the Prophet’s lies, and Gregory prepares for something far more dangerous than battle--a formal ball at his parent’s house.

Sometimes, rebels have all the fun.

Rebellion shows the heroes of Irth in action as they struggle against tyranny and work to put evil back in the box. Hannah and her friends must learn the power of teamwork in order to prevent the perils of unchecked ambition.

****4.5 Stars****

As this story progresses, I am sucked in and can't put the book down for a long period of time...I keep thanking my lucky stars that I am reading this during a long weekend so I can get pretty far in the series.

The story picks up with the crew back together along with some new members to help the rebellion against Adrien and his mysterious machine.

I so want Hannah and Parker to get to it and finally admit they have feelings for each other.

Off to the next book!! What a cliffhanger!

Book three was even better than I'd hoped for.

I'm so used to reading trilogies, that having a book three not finish the story for me, felt kind of weird. But with Michael's main BA story as the best example going, for a long-based telling of a character's journey, I quickly adjusted to this ending being just another pause in the story.

Reading the Author's Notes at the end of this, Chris was talking about the role of places in stories being as strong as character and plot, and I totally get this!

The Boulevard feels totally a part of the main plot to me. She might be old, and raddled, and very down at heel, but she is still a fighter, and a protector of all those lives born, and raised, within her walls.

That's the place that Hannah was born into, and where she grew up, knowing that this was the place to which she belonged. So it's no surprise to me that she is as fiercely protective of the people who live there, as she is. She has that same, deep, sense of belonging there, and will do all in her power to protect those who live there, as she can.

But Hannah comes to realise that a place can always come with you, wherever you go, and the ending of this book brings that home (pun intended), with enough force to fill another book!

This book had me laughing, and crying. It had my heart in my throat on occasions, too. It kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next and, although I wanted Adrien dead as much as Hannah did, I realised this was my impatience speaking - after all, what happens to a story that doesn't have conflict within it?

I definitely want to read about how Hannah develops, how Saul is going to change, how Ezekiel can bring Adrien down, if Hannah doesn't get him first - and how all of the people who are gathering together, to fight the evil Adrien has brought to them, manage to do so - and I think this story is going to stay just as riveting, and exciting, as this book was, and the two before this!

I really wish you could give more of a 5 out of 5 star rating to books like this - but then, I guess it's all reduced to the smallest amount of numbers in the end, and 5 out of 5 still means awesome reading!

you know what I think the worst thing is that a writer can do... is having an totally unbelievable story. I am not referring to the magic, although even that is rather haphazard in this book, but it is how the characters behave and how the people around them behave. In this book those two things have been bungled so far that I almost stopped the audio book (great narrator by the way).
for those that do not want to read spoilers... stop reading here. and please do not waste your time with this series...
Let me give you some examples.
- the only virtue the main character has is that she is powerful and beautiful and hence she is the leader of the rebellion and everyone looks up to her.
- all at once the whole boulevard adores her, while before she became powerful and thought of herself as beautiful she was a pickpocket. so those people that all at once adore her... are the people where she stole from.
- also the attitude from Hannah towards people just joining the group was really terrible... she actually is that beautiful girl in class that things the world about herself and things all the others should too... she was really that obnoxious...
the only redeeming quality in the book were some of the other characters, of which the introduction of Laurel is actually one of the more pleasant ones... still also here the setup does not make sense... nature lover falls head over heels for a dorky guy using science...
the whole book is just as superficial as the dick jokes being made left and right...
I understand the series consists of 7 books, but this will be the last I read.

I enjoyed it a bit more than the previous two because there was, finally, some fighting. That been said, the more I read, the more I feel like something's missing. Either that or there is just too much filling, I believe the first three books could've been mashed into one, without losing anything important.

Most of Rebellion was about preparation, gathering forces, finding -or trying to find- allies in order to fight Adrien. A whole lot of planning and a nice battle at the end, not so epic as I expected, but it was a start. Adrien seems to always be a step ahead, outsmarting his mentor and acting like a brat, despite his age.

I loved Gregory and Parker and the part they both played during the battle. As always, I expected Sal to actually do something other than stay there, napping and growing, but I know that he's still a baby dragon and he'll probably do enough in the future.

For a moment, I considered rating this one three stars, but I decided to give it four stars at the end since Hanna's words made me want to read the next book asap!

This review is for the first 5 books in the series. I tried to avoid spoilers.

It seems like there is no end to the flood of book series popping up in the Kurtherian universe. It has become a bit of a franchise actually. That’s not a bad thing in itself as long as quality is maintained. So far it has…more or less. The books, the ones that I have read at least, has been of varying quality that has to be said. However, the lowest rating I have given has been three stars with most of them in the four to five star range. The five star books have mostly been the ones written by Michael Anderle himself though.

This book series is another one of those “co-written” by some other author and Michael Anderle. Now I am pretty sure that Michael has had more of a consultant role than doing any actual writing. C.M. Raymond has been doing a pretty good job though.

The books series takes place in a time period after The Queen Bitch left Earth, for the second time, and Earth finally managed to screw up big time. So the world is now a post apocalyptic one with only remnants of science left. A medieval society with nanocyte-induced magic in it.

I quite like the story. The foundation is not really that original. Heroin discovers that she has magic, mysterious man pops up, tells her she is “special”, tutors her. Add a few weird new friends and of course a big bad guy with a diabolical plan, a wee bit of romance and we’re ready to go.

What makes the story a bit above the average thirteen on a dozen such stories is pretty good writing, some nice twists and a fairly interesting connection to the rest of the Kurtherian universe. One that gives plenty of opportunities for development in various directions.

As for the characters, they are quite likable. I do like the heroin. She goes through quite some development at a balanced pace. There’s her old mentor of course, a grumpy dwarf and a few other characters that makes for a quite merry team. Oh, and there is a quite cute little dragon as well of course. Did I say little? On second thought scratch the little part.

The first four books in the series are part of an overall story arc against the main bad guy introduced in the first book in the series. The fifth book hints at the first four being just a bit of warm up for our heroin and that an altogether new story arc with a much bigger and “badder” foe is starting. That doesn’t stop Hanna and her odd band of merry friends to solve a little side story on the way though.

Bottom line, it is fun books to read. It is fairly light reading but still, quite enjoyable.

Oh, one last thing. Should you happen to be the lucky owner of a dragon do NOT feed it coffee!

Most of the book was about preparing for the final battle with Adrien. It was about organizing everyone and getting supplies, which was kind of boring. There is a pretty epic fight on the airship where everyone was involved, but Adrien doesn't die there. Instead, after the airship fight, Ezekiel and Hannah have a confrontation with Adrien where Hannah just blasts Adrien to pieces, literally. There isn't much planning or cooperative teamwork involved. I would have preferred a more epic showdown with the main bad guy in the past 4 books in this series. Also there was very little romantic development between Hannah and Parker.

Rebellion: The Rise of Magic, Book 3 my third read/listen from author C.M. Raymond picks up where Books 1 & 2 left off. I love this incredible amazing fantasy. Reminiscent of The Lord of The Rings in scope, the personality of the characters and the voice inflections of the narrator add depth to the listening experience. Well developed characters, a story line that continues to grow on you as you continued until you couldn’t wait to read the finish. A problem with audio books is that you can’t just read faster as the excitement mounts to get to the end faster. I can’t wait to read book 4 in the series. I’m sure that author C.M. Raymond has more good writing waiting in the wings!

Book 3 continues the story of the fight to defeat Adrian and free the people of the boulevard from his reign of terror. Hannah and her crew are back together and have recruited some new members to help with the rebellion. I enjoy the rhetoric and humour that goes on between the characters and I love the chemistry developing between Parker and Hannah. There is intrigue, thrilling action, twists and some heartache in this book. The narrator does an excellent job of keeping the character voices consistent from book to book and bringing out the emotions and wit in the story. I look forward to seeing how Sal develops in the future and what adventures the next book brings.

Rebellions are A Bitch

Every time the fighting starts, things get messy and nothing ever winds up like you think it's gonna... the fight is on... A revolution is in full brew... the team gets better and better and is finally starting to work like a team... a new plan to take out an old foe is what's needed here... I imagine that one will develop... all in all it's a good read with a few surprises tossed in... well worth the time...

another great book on this saga, I love how many characters and authors can be part of one book, that's so great.

Gregory was so sweet I liked him so much and I can hear something cooking between Parker and Hannah that's interesting for the side development of the plot.

the story grew more in complexity in this one, and all the trials the characters has to face, it' s brilliant.

I'm hoping for the next book already.

Enjoyed this even more than the previous two...but hope the author was being silly when he claimed this would be a 20 part series. Worried he might be serious because there are a lot of books in this "Kutherian Universe" (guess you have to read others to understand that name).

Either way, while I would love to watch this on Netflix or tv, I don't think I eill be sticking around for 20 books... especially as they aren't all written already lol

I enjoyed this book, the story, I believe each time the series goes closest to 4 stars rate, it is a shame that you cannot give decimal points, because this is not a 3 stars. Anyway, I think the characters are growing more and more, Sal is getting bigger and evolving a lot, the same as Hanna. I enjoyed Gregory on the story, I want to see what role he plays on all the plot. I totally recommend the series, it is good fun!

Three out of three 👍. Enjoyed the third one as much as the first two.

Some corse language and violence, but doesn’t go into gory details.

Love the story and it characters.

Narrated by: Kate Rudd Does a wonderful job. She brings the characters alive with their own individual unique voice.

Can’t wait to see what happens in the new series.

Couldn't put it down.

My only problem with this book is: I realy need to read the next one and it isn't ready yet. Also, Greg's "Dad" needs to end badly.

I love all of the ebooks set in this world. I don't understand why a concept that started "you're dying, want to be a vampire?" upsets people when it turns full circle to "This tec acts like magic." I consider it genius.

This is the classic good verses evil. This series is so well written you can visualize the world they are in and feel like you are with the characters as they Grow and learn about their world. This is a series that you should read from book one, that way you know what is going on. You won't be disappointed with this series. Great Reading Everyone!

Audiobook review: The story starts where book 2 lets off. The team’s infiltration continues but the enemy is weary and.... There is a torture scene, that thankfully doesn’t go into the majority of the detail it could have. The underdogs are real, likable, and believable. The book nicely adds to the overall story arc. The narrator did a great job!

Just when you thought it was all over

Hannah, Zeke and the small band of rebels pull out an unlikely victory, partly Zeke's plan, but a good bit of luck sprinkled with magic helps out. You find yourself drawn into the fray as you pull for the rebels to just survive let alone turn the tide of the rebellion. Great read!

GO Hannah go

Hannah's power is growing and I can't wait for her dragon to grow to. Like all the spin off novels of Gambit universe this one stands just as strong as the main storyline.

Another fast-paced book in the series. I enjoyed it very much. Hannah and Ezekiel go further in their training, but Hannah now has to fight even harder than before. She, along with her loyal friends, are about to face down the crazies and zealots of Arcadia to try to stop Adrien’s evil plan.

Plotting the overthrow of Adrian's Arcadian city, the small troop of rebels infiltrate various places to accomplish their plan. Will it work? That is what this book is about. The story just keeps building and the end of it leaves the reader wanting more.

Best book of the series yet

I've struggled through the first two books wondering if I was ever going to really get into this series, but this book really turned things around. The rebellion has won and it's time for the revolution.
