Teenage assassin Gabriel Frost is back, and this time he’s going to find out the truth about his mysterious past. It’s been one year since the events of Shadow Born, and Gabriel has settled into his new life at Winschfield Manor as a field agent for the Top Secret organization known as D.A.S. Gabriel is on his first solo mission when something goes horribly wrong and the shadowfriends escape, not only with hostages, but also with a rare and unusual relic -an ancient gemstone statue.

Gabriel soon learns that the shadowfriends are collecting the statues because the artifacts have immense power, power that could change the world forever. But before D.A.S. can act, the Shadow attacks. Reeves and Julia are gone and the children are taken captive by a secret government agency. To make matters worse, Gabriel’s powers are growing rapidly and he can’t seem to control them. Just when his friends need him most, Gabriel may not be able to save anyone - not even himself.

What a spectacular book!! I’d like to thank the amazingly talented author Jamie Sedgwick for the opportunity to read her captivating novel “Shadow Rising”….

Gesh, where do I start?? Shadow Rising is a book so full of everything that it had my jaw dropping in awe when I was reading it. Although this is book #2 in the Shadow Born Trilogy, Shadow Born being book #1 (which I must read) it was so easy to jump or appear right into it and read this installment feeling like you never missed a thing, hmmm or did you? It could very well have been a stand alone book in it’s own right.

I have never read a book so FULL of as many characters or creatures as Shadow Rising!! In this book I feel that lovers of all things paranormal will be pleased as they read it too.
Just to name some of the characters/creatures that you will find in this book, there are humanoids, grimlocks, shadownkinds, dragons, griffons, trolls, werewolves, wargs-wolves, and that’s not even mentioning the human characters!! (see I told you that there was a bit of everything for everyone)

Gabriel Frost who is a teenage assassin working as a field agent for a Top Secret organization known as the D.A.S. or the Defense Against the Shadow is bound and determined to find the truth about his mysterious past. He carries the DNA of the Shadow although he’s human. Or is he?
He goes on his first solo mission when things go horribly wrong, and the shadow-friends escape with hostages, (his friends Pete‘s parents) but also with a rare unusual relic.. A ancient gemstone statue. (which happens to be made from fragments of the stars when they exploded)

These statue artifacts have a immense power. Once all the statues are collected and put together in the huge clock machine (the shawdowfriends want them too) collectively they produce the power that is needed to reverse a catastrophic wrong against the world that they have been living in.

What is this power from the clock machine you may be asking yourself?

Along time ago their world was plunged into darkness, and the shadowkind became the known ruler. Building a huge army formed when the shadow kind forced thousands into slavery… using the slaves families as leverage to force and make sure those who were now his slaves to stay under the Shadow Lords rule.

Gabriel and his friends fight against time and the shadows to ultimately collect all the statues, then to bring them and the massive clock machine to the pyramid. Placing the statues together inside the workings of the clock machine. The clock machine is set into motion, unleashing a powerful intense ray beam. This is the power that is needed to reverse the wrong…

What happens next, you’ll have to read “Shadow Rising” to find out for yourself (nope, I‘m not going to tell ya) And your not going to want to miss this book for sure. I enjoyed it, and I know you are going to as well. It’s an AWESOME READ.

Go and get your copy now, and while your at it pick up Shadow Born too!!

I receive this through a Goodreads Giveaway. It is a fast paced read with a good amount of action. I think it could have been a longer book with more character development and a more in depth explanation as to the motivation for certain things. But I look forward to seeing what else The Shadow gets up to in the third book!
