Not Different Enough is the account of thirty years of living with my daughter, Kalisha. She has been diagnosed with autism, Asperger's and mild intellectual disabilities. There are many books available containing therapies, diets and magical 'cures' for autism. This book contains none of those...it is a view of daily life with an individual with those three labels. You will find a glimpse into our lives written with complete transparency and honesty. It contains humor, tears, faith and mistakes as Kalisha and I open up our lives to the reader.
This is a wonderful book. A wonderful journey. I would recommend it to all families who have a special needs child. Although it would be great for anyone who has children. Gloria has learned to pick her battles.
This a book from a terrible mother. Grappling her autistic daughter by a mass of her hair so that she stood up. I am certain that back then a lot of resources were not available but there is common sense. Making and keeping her daughter so fat did not makes matter better. She meant it well but she was very ignorant. If not this book shows you things you never have to do with an autistic child
A must read for anyone with a developmentally disabled child and for anyone who wants to know about what that life is like ... that means it's a must read for most of us.
