Copper Falls #3

Light's Shadow

Rate this book
Born of the Light. Corrupted by Shadow. After spending her entire life as a servant of the Light, Sophie Turner no longer knows where she fits into a world in which she’s been forced to become the very thing she’s come to hate. She doesn’t know herself anymore, and can’t seem to reconcile her strong belief in the tenets of Light as Shadow magic flows through her body, seducing her, tempting her to do the very things she swore she’d never do.At the same time, her relationship with Calder Turcotte, the man she’s loved for practically her entire life, is on shaky ground. The things she had to do to break his curse haunt them both, and there’s a distance between them now that she doesn’t know if they can ever bridge. All of that is bad enough, but when the alpha of the Copper Falls wolf pack ends up dead, Calder finds himself under suspicion for his murder, and it becomes abundantly clear that the quiet life Sophie and Calder crave is further from their reach than ever. When an ancient enemy returns to make his final move against Sophie, finally fulfilling his mission, she’ll be forced to rely on the tenuous alliances she’s made, as well as the Shadow magic she detests and distrusts, to save everything that matters to her.A story of eternal love, forgiveness, and strength, Light’s Shadow is the final book in the Copper Falls paranormal romance trilogy.

Finally. First off, I want to thank everyone who waited so patiently for this book. Giving Sophie and Calder (and Luc and Migisi) the ending they deserved was a process that took quite a bit longer than I thought it would, but I'm so happy to finally be able to share the culmination of their generations-spanning story with you. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm for this series -- Sophie holds a special place in my heart, and it's made me so happy to see how many of you love her, too.

Hands down 5 star read!

What a fabulous conclusion!! This book had it all, mystery, magic, suspense and romance (and boy did she nail those moments of romance!) I've waited, as we all have, for this conclusion of Sophie and Calder's story and I WAS NOT disappointed. I had no idea what to expect, and I was wonderfully surprised at every turn. Sophie is a fabulous heroine. She emulates both weakness and strength, and I personally believe that her strength is most times found in what others view as her weaknesses (especially Esme, a fabulous bad witch who is a fantastic good witch at the same moment-please don't tell her I said that because she'd probably throw me into a wall 😆)
A skill that I have noticed C.V. has is the capability of showing the integrity of her heroines through their actions in ways that others fail to me. Some heroines either seem only weak or strong to me, I either love them or hate them, but with her's there are so many layers. It's not so cut and dry, and I enjoyed that Sophie's mate, Calder, recognized it as well. Sophie is a complex woman who has lived a tragic life and through it all, and not without struggle, she manages to hold onto herself, her light.
When the final battle came, I was so happy with everything that happened. I didn't expect to love Migisi and Luc's story as much as I did, but how could I not? It all began with them, and I could just see the two twisted trees, embracing for eternity offering strength and protection for generations to come.
One last thing Colleen, I know you have only about 1,000 books on your plate, but I can totally see a little novella in the future that gives us a glimpse of Grace as well as Jon and Esme, just saying!
Thank you for this ending, it was a pleasure to read!

Great ending!

One of my favorite series by Colleen Vanderlinden. The final book in this series was everything I hoped it would be for the characters. What a great story about survival, family and sacrifice. This is one of those books I wish I could read for the first time all over again.

The end is here and what a way to go!!!! Sophie is just so yes in this one. Calder will always make you swoon and you just want these two to find a way to be together for life! My favorite part is where she is in the bar and claims her man! I laughed and loved it as much as Calder did!!! The ending was perfect and everything felt complete.

Perfect ending

This was just the way Sophie and Calder's story should end! No spoilers here, but I'm so glad that Sophie learned to be strong in her own way. I love how the present and the past blend seamlessly in this whole series.

This series is outstanding! If you enjoy paranormal fiction do not hesitate to read all three. Of course, once you have read the first book you will definitely be reading all three!

Light’s Shadow takes a story generations in the making to reach this final culmination. Book three in the Copper Falls series is Sophie and Calder’s final endeavors towards resolving the mistakes their ancestors made. Sophie is an amazing character – true to herself and what she holds as right even when, as a Shadow witch, she believes herself to be evil. And the ending was page-turning, hold-your-breath action.

It’s very difficult to review this book without spoilers, it’s just that good. I feel like I’ve crossed a million miles and traveled a thousand journeys with Sophie and Calder and this final book does that journey proud.

This book was so worth the wait!

I absolutely cannot imagine a better ending to this series. Well, it could have been slightly better if there had been a happier ending for Jayda but it was still pretty amazing. I'm not going to give anything away, you all just need to read the book for yourselves.

Perfect.

I've read just about everything you've published so far, I have to say you just keep getting better. This book was perfect. I enjoyed the surprises. So few stories actually surprise me. This book had a bit of everything; a touch of humor, a dash of horror, plenty of joy, lots of heartbreak, hope, anguish...everything. I look forward to reading your work for a very long time.

Wonderful ending to a series!

I am a huge fan of Colleen's, and I loved this series as I have all of her others. She has a expansive imagination, and she writes about her characters as though they are actually her family, and I know with Colleen's, they really are family. Love u Colleen's, and every book you have written!

Worth the Wait

This is the book I've waited for, and it was worth the wait! I love all of Colleen's books, but I've waited for the rest of the Sophie and Calder story. This was perfectly written and just the way their story needed to end. I'm sad it's over (I stayed up super late last night to finish). Another fantastic job well done!!!

Fantastic ending to an amazing series that I have been in love with since the beginning. The shadow witch series is so gripping and well written I haven't been able to put all 3 books down. I originally read the hidden series by Colleen then this series and I wasn't disappointed. I'm not going to ruin it for you. Take my advice. Read the series. You will not be disappointed!!!

An amazing end to the Copper Falls Series! I thoroughly enjoyed every book, and this finale did not disappoint. If you’ve read the previous books (Shadow Witch Rising and Shadow Sworn) then you know the warlock, Marshall, has been stalking Sophie’s ancestors and her for her entire life. He’s wicked, cruel, and takes delight in the suffering of others. He wanted Sophie for himself, but now he’s out for revenge.

We take a deeper look into Luc and Migisi’s past and discover what happened to them as their curses raged on through the years. It’s heartbreaking. My eyes watered as I read. Truly.

Calder is such an amazing, steadfast guy. No matter what happens between him and Sophie, he flat out loves her. And yes, I wondered why sometimes because she could be a pain in the ass. In Esme’s words, an ‘idiot’. But she has her reasons and its part of her character. She’s a strong woman, and she knows when she needs help. Their relationship is give and take, and sometimes, they need that reminder.

And Esme! I loved that woman. No matter how mean she came across, I couldn’t help but like her. I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll leave it at that.

I highly recommend this series, especially if you love witches and shifters. It was definitely a roller-coaster of emotions and hardships, but of course, you can’t have romance without a Happily Ever After…

Everything I he it would be

Love Collen Vanderlinden. She writes wonderful strong female characters surrounded by some pretty amazing men. The Copper Fall's series was excellent. Sophie and Calder were both such rich characters that were so relatable. I liked that it was rooted in the natural world. I've always felt the power and beauty of Nature. The world building here really built on that which I really enjoyed. A classic tale of good vs evil. Really enjoyed the HEA..

Wow! What a read - I'm exhausted and exhilarated all at the same time. I'm not going to lie, at times it was a painfully hard read. What Sophie and Calder had to go through to get their happy ever after was gut wrenchingly painful (thank you as ever for that Colleen!) and at times I had to put the book down just to recover a little. Sophie however has to be one of the most understatedly strong and powerful women I have read, complicated, introspective and powerful, and all she really wants is a peaceful life. The background story of Migisi and Luc, the ancestors to Sophie and Calder was even more heart breaking, knowing how they ended helped a little though. I hope that they can now rest in peace. However the strongest and must alluring pull of the book for me was the power of Light and Shadow, and has been from the first in the trilogy. Light, dark, life, death, none is independent of the other and how this lives in us and the characters of this beautiful book is both complex and simple. Utterly riveting. Another outstanding read from Colleen Vanderlinden.

Sophie has to learn to cope with and to use Shadow magic to her advantage, not just let it use and tempt her. She needs to discover how light and dark can work together, despite feeling like Shadow can never truly be a part of her as she keeps chasing the Light. This was a fantastic and satisfying end to the series. I was very glad to read the resolution to Migisi's and Luc's final days and how they finally found peace for themselves.
