Apsara Chronicles #1

Immortal Bound

Rate this book
Against the rising horde of the underworld, the Gods have one weapon: Vee Shankar. Special Agent. Supernatural CSI.

Beneath New York’s cosmopolitan veneer lies a darker truth—a concrete jungle of the supernatural kind. But humanity is protected, their souls guarded by powerful ancient Gods.

Vee deals in death—demons, evil spirits, possessions, and even the odd rogue God or two. But Vee’s power to read life essences is both a gift and a curse. She’s a Warrior of the Gods, but she’s also in the crosshairs of powerful demonic forces. And from the shadows, dark things come, dogging her every step, threatening her every move.

Vee doesn’t know it, but her power means more than just a quirk of her DNA. Her true identity is a secret better left untold. But as both her alliance with a mystery informant and her strange powers grow, Vee must confront a truth that will make her question her very existence.

Before all hell breaks loose.

Literally.

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain crosseyed.

I love talking to my readers so email me if you have any questions or even if you just want to chat...

This book had a great mix of mythology and mystery, and is a very unique new Urban Fantasy that I stayed up all night to finish.

Vee is a very strong woman who fights back. She recognizes the negative, but doesn't let it rule everything; she is strong through everything that happens. Not only that but she has an awesome Hellhound by her side. Vee has a big battle ahead of her one she never expected to happen so she will need everything she has to defeat it.

This book is gruesome, I would not recommend to young readers due to blood and gore.

Vee is investigating a murder in this book that turns out to be a cult of shifters, but somehow it seems like more than that so she needs to find out what that is. While working on the case she is getting mysterious packages and notes that lead to a demon looking for revenge, but she has no idea why considering she doesn't remember having anything to do with this demon; or is it possible she just doesn't remember it all?

If you are looking for a book with a ton of action, and some mythology and magic mixed in then this is the book I would recommend.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader's copy of this book.

Did not finish

Got a third of the way through, but it was a real chore. Uninteresting when not confusing, and failed to hold my attention.

I really love all the different types of mythology Ayer uses in her works! We get to learn so much about different cultures and have fun spins on ancient tales. A lovely paranormal romance adventure book that I definitely can't wait to read more of in the future!

I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.

BOOK REVIEW : IMMORTAL BOUND (BOOK # 1 APARA CHRONICLES) T.G. AYER.

HINDUISM, GODS, GODDESSES, ASPARA BLOODLINES, DEMONS, A HELL HOUND,
A MYTHICAL SIRIN, LION SHIFTERS, GOD GIVEN GIFTS OF PROTECTION, COPS, FBI INFORMANTS, PORTALS, ALTERNATE UNIVERSES, AND PLENTY OF MAGIC, MAYHEM AND MADNESS.
WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT ALL WRAPPED UP IN 1 AMAZING BOOK?

While I love mythology and have read a diverse and wide range of cultures, I must admit this is my first fauré into an often over looked world and culture of Indian mythology in Fantasy, but I had major concerns, no matter how great the book sounded ... Namely Indian names and pronunciations EEKEEEE! Being a real stickler (when reading) for correct spelling, definitions pronunciations & grammar, I feared the constant use of checking would 'pull me out of character' therefore ruining the story, but to my astonishment / delight this was not the case and have to say, I friggin' Loved, Loved, Loved it and cant wait to go back!

I was scared I was beginning to lose my passion for reading, I seemed distracted and it was hard to stay in character "Skin Walking" while reading and not wanting to return from reading breaks, whilst reading the past couple of books, or that was until Immortal Bound came along! Book # 1 of the Aspara Chronicles was just meant to be a time fill as Ms Ayer had to postpone the release of Shadow Sight (Book # 4 Dark Sight Novel).
I don't see the point in rewriting the synopsis of the book as Tee has already done that for you, if you want to know what the book is about, read her's, after all she is the author and the reason you're reading it, so instead hears my thoughts and feeling and why I believe you should read this book.

I love all that we learn from an incredible book like this, plus there's so many life lessons involved, not only do we get to go on an awesome adventure with Vee, her family and friends clique, but we learn from it. The biggest meaning I took from this book is "Love"! There's a scene where a Demon tells Vee of the magic that runs through her blood's passed down through the Generations from woman to woman, Grandmother to Mother to Daughter (Vee) and the magic and strength that power bestows, and what can be accomplished, it's very powerful! The other big life meaning I take is "Doing the right thing", upholding the law and your on personal values and beliefs system, so just where would do you draw the line?

Ms Ayer has done it again, at this stage I should not be surprised by how amazed and engrossed I become in her novels, and she has quickly become one of my favourite Urban Fantasy Authors who knows how to write real people as characters, both main and secondary.
They're flawed, each hold secrets, their problematic and all have the capacity for good & bad.
Some are good, some bad and some are evil incarnate and all are fighting, some for love of family & friends, some for survival, some for power and some because it's fun and they can.
Some I love, some I want to love and some I love to hate, but all make me feel as if I'm right there in the thick of things, experiencing a crush, the fear of falling in love, or fighting for my life, as if I'm right there along side them in the scenes fighting the good fight!
I can not recommend this series highly enough & give Immortal Bound 4.8⭐️ out of 5⭐️.

I read an advanced reader's copy of this book & this is my fair & impartial honest review.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book and boy am I glad that I did. When I first started this story I really wasn't sure if I would like the story even though I love the authors other books that I have read. It was the first few chapters that I wasn't sold on but the main reason I read of this book the more I loved it and the more addicted I became to the story and what the outcome would be and the more I read the more the characters became alive in my heart and mind they became.

The thing that I loved most about this fact is that the deities and mythology within this book is not something that I have seen written in many novels and it gives a fresh and revitalising feeling to a story and I loved that and I would love to more about this mythology and the customs and deities involved it in. Apart from that part of it the storyline in this book is non stop action and that's another amazing thing to read about, there are so many thrilling and exciting aspects to this story!!! I am dying to read the next book!!!

I love that the Gods and Goddesses in this book are not fiction and abstract, you encounter them and you see both harsh and the kinder sides of them, both parts of them. Vee is an exciting character to read about, I love her strength and stubbornness, her inner fire that makes her so strong! She is able to push her insecurities to the side so you do see the softer side of her but you also see no matter the situation she is in, she is able to stay strong and true to who she is. There are so many characters I could mention about this book, it is filled with amazing readable characters! Want to know more? You need to read this book and that is something I would highly recommend, it is a brilliant book written by an extremely talented author. I only gave this book a four star rating instead of a five because it took me a while in the beginning to get into it.

TG Ayer really is an incredibly talented author and I've a strong hunch that the Apsara Chronicles will be her masterpiece. She's already shown in other series that she can write wonderful mashups of Greek and Norse mythology with urban fantasy. Others have done that to varying degrees (though usually with less success). Now she's taken on a true challenge (as it will involve something most readers won't be familiar with): an Indian mythology urban fantasy. From my perspective, as someone who travels to India fairly often for business reasons, such an urban fantasy if done well is long overdue. Based on the excellence of this book 1, Immortal Bound, I'm sure that test will be met.

I'm not going to do a plot summary, as others have done it well, but I will note that I love the heroine of this book, Vee, an apsara (an Indian mythological nymph). Her ability to see auras and reconstruct crime scenes after the fact is perfectly suited for the job she is intruduced in, that of a sort of CSI specialist working for the US FBI. Gotta love it - and gotta love the well crafted supporting cast of characters and well written plot in this book too. Frankly, there's lots to love in this book and I'm fully expecting the same from the series to come, which I will be eagerly awaiting.

Namaste TG Ayer, and thank you for this.

Highly recommended.

T.G. Ayer has done it again! I have read at least 1 book in 5 out the 9 series she currently has & I have never been disappointed! I read this book as an Advanced reader copy and now I am writing my honest review.

Vee was an interesting character, she is angry, protective and determined to end Supernatural crime in New York City. She has informative Vin/Karan that tips her off to the Crimes she can help with. She uses her supernatural powers to help reconstruct what happened at a crime scene and has earned a positive rep with the local PD and is part of s super secret Paranormal team of FIB agents.

Her family is complicated and do not get any less complicated as the book goes on. She meets new paranormals, gets aid from gods that come in the form of cool new weapons. She meets a hot Lion Shifter (mahabidala) alpha and is crushing pretty hard! I can't wait to see where that goes!

In the end she gains power she didn't know she had and suffered loss that will affect her more than she knows.

Looking forward to the next installment.

What a great read! This story wraps its arms around the reader and doesn't let go. Using a pantheon too often neglected, TG Ayer weaves a tale that is both masterfully written and beautifully told. Vee is an apsara, a nymph from Indian mythology with the power to see auras and reconstruct crime scenes after the fact. Working for the FBI, she is called to crime scenes that indicate the presence of magic, and in these cases, the involvement of shifters. What unfolds is a complicated story that reveals a battle for ultimate domination, and a revelation that Vee's true nature is more than even she knew. Well developed characters and descriptive narrative engage the reader thoroughly in a story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait for more. Ms Ayer has become a go-to author for me and The Aspara Chronicles cements her position there. Highly recommended.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, which I happily give.

Stories like Immortal Bound are refreshing to me. Here is a story that deals with Hindu ideology, a strong, yet flawed heroine in a supernatural landscape that wraps around your finger and ties itself to your conscious even after the last page had been read. Ms. Ayer knows how to tell a story, as I have read several of them. Immortal Bound and the whole Apsara Chronicles will be another one of the stories/series that I will look forward to every time a new installment is released. Vee is amazing and the theme of Hindu god(desses) when this ideology is, for the most part, over looked in the west in fiction is truly a sight for sore eyes and lead me to enjoy this story even more than I would have if it were dealing with another cultures religious ideologies. I am very much looking forward to reading what may come in the future.

A sensational read!

Vee is a weapon of the Gods...
Hidden under New York's surface lies a darker, sinister and powerful demonic entities...
Vee has to stop by confronting the truth, by confronting her powers...
Or else, all hell breaks loose...

I loved reading this book, especially the mythology. I loved reading about all the various gods and goddesses. I grew up reading and hearing about them and so it makes me extremely happy to read an author's take on Indian mythology.

Such brilliant writing! I loved the story - reading the book from all the different point of views and getting to know the characters. So intense!

Filled with gods, goddesses, demons, hellhounds, supernatural creatures, powers, secrets, suspense, mystery, allure, intrigue and danger.

Perfect for readers of Indian mythology.

T.G. Ayer is fast becoming among one of my favourite authors, she provides stories to occupy that space in your mind that let's you go places with just a thought, that thought takes shape the more you read, so hey.... don't stop!!

The story revolves around Vee, an FBI special agent supernatural CSI . Not only is Vee an agent she is an Apsara, someone who is referred to as being a warrior to the gods and goddesses, who takes on demons and dark entities. Vee is able to read auras to track down killers. We also get to meet Syama, a hell hound and Akil an owl, the are Vee's bodyguards able to go invisible.
Vee's character is one of a strong but likeable woman, she can hold her own but she still has feelings hidden. All characters and scenes are written in such a way that you can visualise them easily.

Great start to the series, looking forward to reading more.

Vee (Vaishnavism) Shankar was a member of the FBI paranormal division. Vee can read auras, and not just any auras but those at a crime scene. She can sorta see the murderer.
Now they have two murders. Both with their hearts torn out. Left in the wounds of both bodies are broken claws that appear to have come from a lion.
Vee seeks the help of the alpha lion shifter (from the Mahabidala clan) Nivaan Kailash to possibly identify the shifter involved in the murders.
While all this is going on an assassin for hire is after Vee. She is attacked by an Ayurvedic Golem, but doesn't know why. Then her grandmother is kidnapped and Vee and Devi (Vee's mother) receive messages about her dead father. Then comes the message to meet with the kidnappers stating that Vee killed his brother and must pay.
I received an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

The book was a little slow the first few chapters , explaining what was going on and who Vee Shankara is, after that it goes fast and fierce !! T.G. Ayer gives us tge beginning of the Apsara legends of India mythology, which I for one was unfamiliar with, but now I won't miss a book in the series and can't wait to learn more about the Gods and Goddesses of India . Vee is a wicked fierce fighter who reads aurus for the FBI as well as the India Deities. A great start to a newseries with excellent characters and powers that they wield. 4⭐'s . I recieved a gifted copy of the book from the author and have voluntarily chosen to write an unbiased and honest review . By the way, the alpha nale character us a hot lion shifter !!

I was gifted an early copy of this book and chose to review it.

Mythology is fascinating to me (my favorite book is The Odyssey of Homer) and given a chance to read urban fantasy mixed with Hindi mythology and I am so there!

Vee is an apsara from Indian mythology with the power to see auras and reconstruct crime scenes after the fact, a job she is more than suited for. She works with the FBI to find out if magic might have been part of the case. The “good vs evil” trophe that evolves does not seem overused as with other authors. Ayers breathes new life into it with her wonderful descriptions and a sharp intelligence that reflects an author excited by her stories. That excitement is catching....and I highly recommend this book and others that TJ Ayers has written. Brava

Power corrupts. With the gods that means absolute power, absolute chaos, absolute destruction. A girl is chosen as a weapon with unknown abilities bound since her childhood. Will she be pawn or warrior, savior or thrall? This book is exciting and riveting. Like the gods of Olympus these Hindu gods give gifts of power to those they favor. But a protective hellhound who prefers to walk as a smart mouthed teen girl? A fledgling owl shifter as defender? The unpredictability and wicked twists kept me enthralled and hopeful for more to come. Scenes are vivid, characters memorable. A great read both mystery and magic. And a whole new pantheon for me to enjoy

One thing is for sure with this author I can always count on her to capture my attention which she has with this one in this series. Looking for something different this would be the stop too. Liking strong female characters this one has it in the form of Vee. This one has a big job in the form that I like to read about. She also has some aspects of her character this author has picked our curiosity with that we stay glued to her and the drama that unfolds. The mystery that is twined in this also keeps you riveted with characters that will test her in all forms. Now that I have sped through this one I must see what is next.

This is an extremely well written tale of Gods, warriors, and battles with dark, unknown forces. In the midst of it all is our main character, Vee, whose own roots are yet to be discovered. With a seemingly unwilling hellhound by her side as a bodyguard, this tale captured my attention while I was lead down Vee's journey. The writing is flawless, the tale is unique, and I have no doubt all readers will be pleased escaping into this book that is shrouded in mystery and suspense. T.G. Ayer once again writes a flawless tale that I was able to fully escape into. This story flows seamlessly and is fast paced. The characters are well developed and relatable, I quickly became invested wanting to know more. Vee's journey is not easy but she is strong and has a Hellhound for a bodyguard so she can make it through anything (or can she??) - I don't do spoilers. Grab this book today - it is worth way more than the $.99 price tag at the time of this posting especially being almost 500 pages!! T.G. Ayer continues to be a 1-click Author to me.

This is a great story with wonderful characters. I really felt connected to the story from the very beginning and didn't stop until I got to the end. It is a rich story which is incredibly well-written. I loved all the twists and surprises. Vee is the strong female character that I really enjoy seeing featured. She is not afraid to take risks to keep the people she loves safe from harm. Her family situation is quite complicated. I am eager to read more.

I absolutely love the mythology in this book! This was my first introduction to Hindu mythology, and now I'm interested on reading up on it more. This story is full of wonderful characters, and amazing imagery. There is a lot going on, so I never got bored, in fact, I found myself trying to read faster because I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. This was an awesome saga. An epic battle between good and evil, demons and gods, and shifters, and loads of magic and fantasy. What more could you ask for in a great read. It also didn't hurt that there was a paranormal FBI group involved, and T G left us with just a hint of a possible romantic developing in the next book which I am eagerly anticipating to read. After the first chapter my overall feeling was puzzlement, I didn’t really understand what was going on. I started to get my head around Vee’s role then the story switched to a meeting of the ‘Gods’ and I began to think I had made a mistake in starting this book. After a load of names and inane discussions between the Gods, I decide to give Vee one last chance before ditching the book, but then we meet Karan and that’s it, I couldn’t stand anymore.

T.G.Ayer has done it again with immoral God mythology. Vee has the power to see aura and use this abily to reconstruct crime scenes. She works with the FBI determining if magic was used. This story revolves around Gods from India. .Right from the beginning we are drawn into the action as a murder of a women starts off a chain of supernatural events. I could see Vee in an episode of Supernatural tracking down demons. If you like the show Supernatural you will love this book!!!

Wow, I had a hard time putting this book down. The first 2 chapters were a little slow, but than the action started. There are all kinds of super naturals in this book. Vee does not know all her strength , but boy is she shocked when one comes out. And who is this Karan that knows so much, but does not say, oh so frustrating for Vee.
