Set in 1969, Harry is the son of Collinwood servant Mrs. Johnson, and he was always up to shady dealings, eventually falling prey to Nicholas Blair. This story is about him finally leaving Collinwood (which happened off-screen on the show). Harry meets a sailor called Mordecai and cannot resist stealing the treasure that Mordecai has in his bag – but Harry gets more than he bargained for and must fight for his soul. Performed by Matthew Waterhouse (Adric on Doctor Who), this was a decent little story.
"The Scarlet Bride" by Ian Atkins
Set in 1973, Barnabas Collins reads letters from a woman named Agnes. Agnes is getting married but what should be the happiest time of her life is being spoiled by strange dreams of a scratching at her bedroom window. She dreams of a mysterious man trying to break into her room… A man who stares at her as she dreams… It details an event Barnabas has no memories of because a cabal of would-be sorcerers led by a centuries old witch has him captured. Julia is captured as well when she comes looking for him. This was my favorite story in the collection.
"On the Line" by Ian Farrington
Carolyn Stoddard, performed by Nancy Barrett, who played her on the TV show, is embracing her new life at university in 1973 (she apparently started college at 27 years old) but a mysterious telephone call is about to change everything. It's a call from herself, from the future (2017), giving her tips to make sure certain things do... or don't happen. But it's all a ruse. This was an interesting story. It's set both in 1973 and 2017.
"In a Broken Dream" by Penelope Faith
Amy Jennings has decided to put the past behind her and take up Elizabeth and Roger’s invitation of a visit to them in Paris, to relax, to see the sites and to reconnect with herself. Set in 1984, and performed well by Stephanie Ellyne, I struggled to really follow this one or get the point. Maybe I was tired while listening to it, but I didn't care for this story at all.
I recommend this for fans of the TV series "Dark Shadows," but they are not really accessible for people who haven't watched the show, or even followed along with the events of the audiobook series.
