Shiftr Dating App #1

Shiftr Swipe Left For Love (Dina) Hope Valley Dating App Romances Book 1

Rate this book
The first book in the new Hope Valley BBW dating app romance series

What if your fated mate was just an app swipe away?

Curvy Dina Taylor hates the idea of online dating. It’s something kids do, not 36-year old women, whose boyfriends have left them for the office intern. But her best friend Lauren has a secret she’s bursting to share: there are men out there who absolutely love voluptuous girls like her. All Dina has to do is tap Shiftr, the cute little paw-print app that Lauren has just installed on her phone.

In the time it takes Dina to get over her shock that there are guys who can shift into animals, she’s hit up by Logan – a dark-eyed bear-guy with a torso like sculpted marble and eyes like pools of lust. He tells her that he feels a magnetic connection to her, but before she can tell him that the feeling’s mutual, her clumsy thumb swipes the wrong way, and he’s gone.

Dina is distraught, but Tamika, the creator of Shiftr has a cunning plan that may just bring them together again. Will Dina find the sexy Logan in the midst of the eccentric matchmaker’s beautiful, opulent summer garden party? And will they discover that they’re fated to be together?

This is a short, sweet, steamy read, perfect for a lunch break, bath time, or a little dose of me-time, wherever you are. HEA and no cliffhanger!

A cute premise and not that badly written, but wayyy too much time focused on the heroine's insecurities and not enough time on the build up of the relationship. I just wasn't feeling it.

A dating app that allows shifters to locate curvy women, and hopefully their fated mates, insta-love/lust and this short read should have been a tasty little morsel, but honestly it was all just a tad MEH. There wasn’t enough build up and heat when it came to the relationship between Dina and hot bear shifter Connor.

I did find it slightly funny and questionable that the shifters who run the app thought a NDA would But then again, I’m 70% sure little leprechauns move things around in my room and hid a few watches (never found) when I was a kid, and they’re considered nothing more than a myth.

A pretty cliché and typical shifter romance but I still enjoyed it

~3.5 stars~

This was a quick read - only 66 pages, so I really didn’t expect a lot in regards to character development and story depth. Which I have to say, this read didn’t really have either of those, but it was still cute. It's perfect if you are looking for something short, no angst or drama, hot sex, and some insta-love. It's your typical shifter short story - BBW was never adored like she should have been - meets shifter who immediately wants to mate and share his life with her - the day they meet they both know this is what they want forever, some hot sex, and happily ever after. That’s about it. I never really had a strong grasp of either character and the story really didn’t have much going on. I will still likely read more of this writers work when I am in the mood for something simple and light (nothing serious or emotional occurs), and with some steam that I can read on my lunch break, waiting for an appt, etc. Great for easy reading.

It was ok. There's not alot here but a cute setup and the usual BBW shifter romance stuff - she's been self-conscious, he loves everything about her, insta-love then some sex. It was free, so if this is your gig and you just want a quick little read, it may work for you.

The couple: Logan and Dina

Romance trope: shifter; dating app
Series: Hope Valley BBW Online Dating App
Length: 88 pages

Plot: Dina is looking for love when a friend convinces her to give a secret shifter dating app a try. Even after a series of mistakes, she meets Logan and discovers that a bear is exactly the right shifter for her.

Commentary: Quick, little to no angst. Heavy on the "BBW is perfect for a shifter" trope. Lunch break read, diversion to pass the time.

Next book in the series: Kristin

Shifter stories -- this series in particular -- just make me smile. I've had the series for a while however just now getting around to reading it. Dina was a quick read for me...funny, DEFINITELY smexy, with lots of in-my-head eye candy. An enjoyable way to spend an evening.

I can not believe I waiting so long on reading this book. I kept reading one after another in this series and kept thinking I need to go and read book one. Well I finally did. The book was awesome. It was great to see read Dina and Logan’s story.

Lauren was such a good friend and Dina was lucky to have her as a friend. Lauren truly wanted Dina to be happy. She wants her to find the love that her and Connor have. I have to wonder what was going through Dina’s mind when she first found out shifters were real. Yeah that had to be a surprise but had to peek her interest as well.

I almost laughed Lauren and Dina going through the dating app and checking out all the hunks. Dina had this intuition on if the shifter she was looking at was the one for her.

I loved Logan but he was a little unsure of himself. He was determined to meet Dina. He felt if she got to know him she would like him. I love how attentive he was with Dina. He wanted to also make sure she was ready be mated. He did not pressure her.

I just loved how Logan and Dina clicked. There was so much chemistry between these two. I so enjoyed reading how these two got to know each other. It was a great story and glad I got a chance to read the book.

OH NO - BUT OH YES! DATING APP MISHAP !!!
I love it! Shiftr: Swipe Left for Love (Book One: Dina) is the first release in Ariana Hawkes' amazing new series, Hope Valley BBW Online Dating App Romances and it totally rocks! It is absolutely the cutest book ever and quite apropos considering the popularity of today's online dating scene. Online dating sites have quickly become the Mecca for the forlorn, love-lost souls seeking love or in this case a BFF seeking a mate for her bestie! Beautiful, curvaceous Dina has decided to give up on having a love life. She would concentrate on her career as an elementary school teacher and her afterschool project where she is a volunteer tutor to vulnerable kids who need a little extra support. It's gratifying and she loves it. She has never even tried having a real relationship after having her heart broken by her highschool sweetheart when he rejected her for a much younger woman. She had only had sex with him and it was certainly nothing to brag about. Hmmph! She doesn't need a man. She's independent and self sufficient! She'd just stick with her trusty vibrator and call it a day. Yep, that's her life-plan. But her best friend Lauren has a much better idea. She had recently met bear-shifter Connor, the love of her life, on a secret dating site using their Siftr App and now she's finally allowed to tell one person about it so they could sign up as well. And guess what? She wants Dina to sign up and post her profile immediately. There's just one little problem - Dina doesn't know about shifters - until now! Dina is very, very reluctant but her bestie Lauren is there to guide the way. Once Dina sees the pictures of all the hunky, muscled guys she has to choose from, she's definitely boarding the Shiftr train! All aboard! But while Lauren pops out for more wine, Dina has a mishap and swipes the wrong way and deletes the profile of the one guy she really wants to contact. Oh no! She only knows his first name is Logan and nothing else but there's just something about him. She can feel it - he's the one! What's a girl to do? I guess you'll have to read the book to find out but I will say this....Big, beautiful woman who secretly longs for a family of her own and a real forever love-check! Handsome, modest, kind and caring bear shifter who is looking for his true mate-check! A dating app mishap and the best friend a girl could ever have-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, heartwarming romance, a little heartbreaking angst and some steamy dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Buckle up my lovelies and climb aboard the Shiftr train! You'll love it! It's so much fun! The story is cute, sweet, humorous, fast-paced, light-hearted, fun, romantic, arousing and sexy as sin. Va..Va..Voom! The dialogue is smart, flows effortlessly and is exceptionally well written and well edited. The characters are funny, captivating, relatable and engaging. Hawkes skillfully combines these elements into a wonderfully entertaining paranormal romance. It is a stand alone short story with NO cliffhanger and a wonderfully sweet happily-ever-after ending.
My final verdict: Five Delectable Stars! Deliciously cute, seriously sexy and delightfully entertaining! I loved it. I can hardly wait to see who finds love next!

I absolutely fell in love with this story and the idea of an app for finding shifters their true mate. This book had a bit of humor and love between two best friends and the ones they meet. Lauren and Dina are the best friends that anyone would be happy to have, they keep each other going when things are looking down. Lauren is so energetic and lively while Dina has a strong, stubborn side to her. When Lauren introduces Dina to the dating app and explains everything to her Dina isn't so sure about it. Then she finds the one she feels is for her and she gets nervous and swipes the wrong way. I like the comical aspect of this story and the easy banter between everyone. Ariana Hawkes brought me into her story once again and kept me wanting more. I can't wait for more in this series.

I received this book for an honest review.

I soooo need this app!!
This is the 7th offering by Ariana Hawkes I’ve read and I can truthfully say I’ve loved each and every one of them. Her writing style, descriptive pictures of the characters & her story lines are a delight to read. If you love paranormal romance (especially shifters) with a very healthy dose of steaminess thrown into the mix, need a HEA and want a quick read, you cannot go wrong picking up a copy of SHIFTR: Swipe Left for Love.
I particularly loved the fact that the independent, smart BBW heroine makes a devastating error by simply “swiping” her telephone’s app screen the wrong way. How often have I done something similar & immediately gone “oh, no!!”? But, of course things work out … it’s a HEA! The fun is going along for the ride on the heroine’s journey to find her Mr Right bear.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. I made no guarantee of a favorable review.

I have completely fallen in love with Ariana's new series and am already looking forward to the next standalone book in the series. Dina hasn't had a significant other in a long time.

Thankfully, her best friend Lauren introduces her to a new dating app that's definitely not like others. It's an all shifter dating app where you can find your true mate! This story is well written, funny and full of shiftr love. Ariana Hawkes does it again and does not disappoint!!!

Swipe The Right Way!

I loved the concept of this book a dating app to find a shifter mate!!

I also adored Dina for being app challenged and messing up on that whole swiping thing lol. Seems like something a newbie to apps would do (that would be me too). She also happened to be a curvy woman who had some insecurities, again making her very relatable.

Logan and Dina's connection was that instant fated mate kind I love about shifter romances and their chemistry was off the charts!

Immature

This book reads like it was written by a12 year old. Like "Oh, hey, btw there are shifters, they love curvy women and are super devoted, but don't tell anyone." is the premise for the book. Then there's "Forgot how to use an app, almost missed out on my mate but the app developer will fix it with a party that I hope he comes to!" Really? No world building, no character development, no reason to care about the characters.

I wish this had gotten edited after Connor and Lauren's story came out. The author noted that was the prequel so that's where I started the series. However, she must've taken some creative liberties because there are inconsistencies with C&L's story as the prequel that I guess we're just supposed to ignore in this book (ex: Lauren never having met Logan before and Lauren waiting 2 years after the app was released to introduce her friends to the app).

This series is hopelessly chaotic. I think these books have changed names along with the covers. I’m really not sure what the name of the series is, nor the books. Nothing makes sense. That’s just for the “fuck yes I’m judging this by the cover” part of the book.

Then. There’s the book. Or the story. Such as it is. This is incredibly badly written. There is entirely too much telling, and not a whole lot of showing unless the author stumbled upon it.

The story itself holds a lot of promise, it’s just very badly executed. The idea is solid, this could have been an amazing story. But the characters fall flat on their faces. The heroine is whiny and annoying and basically hates herself and her life. The hero… I never felt we get to know the hero.

Their interactions. Awkward at best. The whole thing is too rushed. No character development, no growth, no real plot. No reason for me to care about these characters!

I wouldn’t even bother with these books as they stand now. There are a million better books on shifters than this on Amazon.

I love the idea of this whole series. Finding love on an app and its paranormal. When I first started the first book I had a feeling I would binge read.

I love how Dina wasn't your typical 20 something heroine. She has lived and had her heart broken and seeing her come out of this shell she put her self in was fun.

I wish Logan had been more gruff. I like that he was sweet and caring, but when I think shifter I think possessive and and alpha type. After a while we saw more gruff side; but I had wished for more.

This book isn't super long but I felt for the plot it was perfect. I wasn't left with a ache for more of these characters because the author wrapped it up nicely. The plot was instalove fates mates and I liked that there wasn't any drama. It was cute with some steam.

Overall, it was a cute story. I would read more in this series to see how the others ended up with mates. 4 stars #2OCCJD

Doesn't line up with first book

I might be too particular. The order of the books first (Lauren's book) does not line up with this book. It was frustrating that parts like telling Dina to make him work for it as Lauren did with her mate. However, Lauren went out with him after he just messaged her. He made her work for it when they had a conflict, but not at first. The first book also showed more of Logan's personality being second in command. This book really didn't show that. It showed he was caring and compassionate, but didn't seem to show his knowledge or loyalty to his leader. I also didn't like how the first book, Lauren met Logan. Those are the moments it showed his personality. This book though she didn't know him and that's why they had to go to the party. Lauren was already living with the clan in the first book, so how would she not know Logan? If it is a series, it should line up. I get it was a short book, but details should be the same.

Dina doesn't date and she's been out of the dating world for a while. Her friend, Laura, sets her up on some dating apps. There's one Shiftr that has super sexy guys on it. Shiftr is a secret app that you have to be invited too. Laura sets Dina up on there. Shiftr's secret is that it's a app her shifters to find their mate. Both Dina and Laura are down to earth girls. I loved their conversations when Dina was looking at different guys on the app. Dina see Logan on the app he's super sexy and a bear shifter. She feel the connection right from his picture. She presses the wrong button and his profile is gone. I was hooked into the story at this point and couldn't put it down until I found out whether they would meet and how it would end up. This is a great short read. If you have a little time to read, you should be able to read this one in one sitting.

Ok

If you like your love so instant you don't even actually have to meet, this book is for you. If you want your lovers to have sex the same day they meet, this is your book. If you want them married and expecting in short order...you know the rest. Nothing about the editing jumped out at me(which is good). I missed conflict, tension and mystery in this book. The emotional level is very surface. This is an example of a quote that confused me: " They’d already had a shifter-only ceremony in the forest with the clan. It had been ancient and mysterious, involving complicated rites.". It was like being at a party and being told, " This party is lame but the one you weren't invited to was awesome!". Why show me the boring event and tell me about the interesting one?

Entertaining short reads, with a fun concept.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

The first book was written last...? WILDLY different storyline.

I read the first book in this series, and thought it was ok--but then read this one. Apparently that first book was written last, and all I can say is that the author really should have reread the other books before writing it. 😕

The character of Lauren was NIGHT AND DAY different from how she was presented in this book. This Lauren was not nearly as likeable--and she isn't even the main female character this time.

Lots of details from the first book are missing, so there's a very jarring discordance you cannot ignore. The story felt sweet and hopeful before...now it shows a real lack of world building and is so shallow, you can see the bottom.

I think the underlying idea of the series is great, but these are showing their age....and could be greatly improved by some skillful rewrites.

A cute and sexy, fast past insta-love novella. Shy curvy heroine and a strong confident hero. I also love that this novella is about older more mature characters in their 30s.

Logan is a bear shifter looking for his one true mate. Dina finds Logan on a shifter dating site and sparks fly immediately when she sees his profile and picture. Oops! She she swipes right by accident. His profile is no longer available for her to view. Now Logan thinks she's not interested but will sparks rekindle at a members only party the site is hosting?

Pathetic and Shallow

Dina is so superficial. When she accidentally deletes Logan's profile, instead of mentioning how perfect, compatible or great he seemed she moaned that he was so hot. Then she spent the week planning kinky sex scenarios while she was supposed to be teaching school. She is also a pathetic drunk who thinks tequila is a classy drink.
They are supposed to know their perfect, forever mate right away. But despite this her friend encourages her to play games pretending she isn't interested.
Luckily Logan is a perfect, humble, shy, sexy doormat who wants her even when she jerks him around.
I won't bother finishing this book.

So I read Lauren’s book first which is the order they are listed on Amazon but on here it’s book 12. The problem with that is this book didn’t follow that one at all. I’m guessing Lauren’s book was written after.

She was telling Dina about all the romantic dates Connor took her on before they mated but Connor just shouted at her every time they met. She didn’t recognise Logan yet had full conversations with him. The whole concept of the book - the party cos she swiped the wrong way - should have been totally avoided by Lauren saying I’ll take you to him.

Because of that and some other things this just didn’t really do it for me. I would have liked some of Logan’s perspective too. Dina was a bit annoying.

The whole thing was just rushed and he didn’t bite her which was confusing as Connor definitely said they mark there mate.

Anyway it was just ok
