4.25 Stars! 2nd Edition This is book 2 in the Bear Kamp series, and is best enjoyed if you've read the novella Seduction of the Bear.
This is Emma and Jasper's story, and to say they have to fight for their HEA would be an understatement. But oh, does it make for an interesting story!
Emma is afraid of commitment. Her father left when she was younger, and her college boyfriend cheated on her. So, she guards her heart and usually only has one night stands. She focuses on her career and family and friends.
Jasper is a Bear shifter. He owns a successful construction company and has a bunch of very good friends he hangs out with at The Kamp. He's been waiting a very long time for his true mate, and he fears his Bear will go feral if he doesn't find her.
When they meet at The Kamp, Jasper knows right away that Emma is his mate. But he feels her resistance. He feels her disdain. He feels her desire. The two will have to battle through betrayal, family secrets, lies and lust to find their happiness. With these two, anything worth having is worth a good fight.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wealth of the Bear is a shifter romance that is at times frustrating and equal parts heartbreaking. Jasper has finally found his mate. This should be cause for celebration around the Kamp bar, especially since his friends Austin and Kate have found each other – life should be good. But it’s far from that easy for Jasper and Emma. Jasper may have discovered his mate at long last, but Emma wants no part of commitment or mating. A fast romp in the sheets, sure, but something more permanent… no way. Emma has been abandoned before so she knows how this song plays out… or so she thinks. Trouble is, she’s feeling the draw toward Jasper as well, but it’s sex, it cannot be more than sex, she simply will not allow it to be more.
One man’s determination and patience, which is quickly coming to an end – one woman’s fear and bullheadedness. Combine the two opposite ends and you have the emotional roller coaster of Wealth of the Bear. This story is sad and funny, full of banter and bittersweet, a true battle of the sexes and they both would win if one of them wasn’t so stubborn and refuses to believe in her man or herself. Yes, there is a reveal that will open Emma’s eyes to some unknown facts – yet, getting to that point is a true battle, and at times it seems that neither side is going to win. I enjoyed myself completely, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to (often) set Emma down for a serious chat. A happy ending that is hard fought for may be just a bit sweeter for the journey.
I’m always of the opinion that a series should be read in order for the enjoyment factor if nothing else. With this story, you’ll be spending a lot of time with Jasper and Emma’s friends, Austin and Kate – it’s going to help a lot in understanding what happened if you’ve read Seduction of the Bear before this story… in my opinion.
If you’re looking for a story that will tug at your heart as well as give you an entertaining story, then this one is a story you should be picking up real soon. A good story, likable characters, sexy moments, emotions on high alert and hints at what is to come in this series, I’d not hesitate to recommend Wealth of the Bear to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
I am really enjoying this series and it's so refreshing when an author listens to her readers and takes note of what their reviews say as I read and reviewed book 1 but I had to give it only 4 stars as, although the story was really good it was quite short, and this book is definitely longer without losing the story or padding it out with sex scenes, which is what some authors seem to be doing. And what a great twist towards the end of the book, certainly didn't see that one coming. Both books although stand alone, I feel you would be better off reading book 1 first as the characters of this book are part of book 1 and by reading both books it will make your reading experience more enjoyable, but I think series are always better read in order. I am hoping the author will make book 3 about Rick and Emma's mum (hint, hint) but who ever the characters are, I look forward to reading it. Emma has always known men don't stick around and shifters are no exception even with their fated mate after all her shifter father left both her and her mother who was his fated mate. So fearing commitment, she has learnt to guard her heart and only have one night stands So even though she knows Jasper is her true mate, after sleeping with him she walks out before morning. Jasper is a bear shifter that has waited to find his true mate and he's found it in Emma but doesn't know how he will get through to her that he's in it for the long run and he's not her father. WIll they work things out? well you're just going to have to read the book to find out, as I hate when reviewers give away to much of the story and spoil it for other readers. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
The second installment in the Bear Kamp series is yet another winner. While the author concentrated on adultery and abuse in the first storyline, this time the main subject is abandonment by the father which the heroine then applies to all men in the world - based on what children learn when they are young often follows them into adulthood. However, there is another quirky twist mixed in ... Having read a good few books by Rachel Robins, this writer has proven to have great writing skills. She tends to delve into and deal with everyday issues that make the reader think. The reader can't help but getting involved with the characters and wondering what might be happening next. While the genre is paranormal romance, the added mystery and suspense will keep everyone turning page after page from beginning to end.
Emma, Kate's best friend, loves the drinking and dancing at Bear Kamp, especially since shifters avoid any relationships that are not true mate pairings. Now that Kate is happily married to Austin, Emma feels more isolated than ever, even though Jasper is eyeing her with appreciation and possessiveness. She has been around shifters long enough to tell when a mate bond is forming. Her first impulse is denial. Her second is to run. This is the second book of the Bear Kamp series. Though it is Emma's story, it may be confusing on its own as it starts where we left off in book one. I like how Ms Robbins explores the uncertainties and fears of commitment. Her characters show vulnerability with strong inner strength. She gives an unexpected twist to the story when Emma goes home. I did not enjoy this as much as Kate's story. I just did not click with Emma and Jasper.
Jasper, a bear shifter has to figure out what to do when he finds his true mate in Emma, a girl that has been betrayed and is afraid to commit to their bond. Jasper knows how Emma feels and tires to be patient but bear shifters are not known for being patient and he knows he can't push her.
Emma finally realizes she needs to find her father, a shifter that left her and her mother when she was a child to figure out about he fear of commitment and find a way to make things work with Jasper. What she finds out is life changing when she confronts her mom and finds out the truth.
Jasper is a contractor and has monetary wealth but Emma finds the true Wealth of the Bear he is when she opens her heart and soul to him and his bear.
I borrowed Wealth of the Bear from the Kindle Unlimited leading program.
This was a quick read and very enjoyable. True love isn't always easy to see. Our past can be an obstacle we are unwilling to find a way around. But once truth is sought after we can forge ahead and gain the happily ever after. I found a few grammatical errors but nothing you wouldn't automatically fix in your head while reading. Frustration at one of the main characters did occur but only because I wanted to slap her to get her to wake up and see what she was doing. In the end she figures it out and comes to her senses. I am definitely curious to see what other stories come from this pack of shifters.
I really enjoyed the first book in the series. It was a great story, with good characters that belonged together. The ending of this perfect was a good, happily ever after ending, however, getting there was a hard read. I loved Jasper, he's a good, strong, loving hero who deserved better then what he got. I found Emma's character to be a trampy, spoiled, selfish person who blamed her poor choices on her past. She treated Jasper poorly throughout the story, and she's damn lucky that he took her back. Despite this, I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series, hopefully featuring Rick.
What a good story! Emma was distrustful of men, running away from a relationship before they could. She and Jasper were both aware they were mates, but her personal history caused her to seriously doubt the connection. The story is smooth flowing, with several twists. The characters are well developed and tightly woven between the books. Definitely recommend reading the series!
I felt so bad for Jasper in this book. Here is was this standup guy who hadn't done anything wrong suffering because of some other man/shifters actions. He knew he would have to go slow with Emma but everything he did he seemed to have to apologize for or have her angry at him for.
I liked Emma in certain parts of this book, but there were others I just couldn't get past. I know that she has baggage but yet her best friend was mated and could see that not all men left.
I bought this paperback back in 2017 so I understand it's been quite some time BUT this book should never have been published with the amount of errors in it. The errors include punctuation and many, many times using the wrong word. For example, "They past a group of workers" should be passed not past. Another example, "She's knew so go easy on her" should be new not knew. In fact, that error was used multiple times. The overall story is interesting but there were too many errors to enjoy it.
This was a good story of two mates - one all in and one too scared to commit. Fortunately, there wasn't too much of the 'it's not you, it's me, I'm just so damaged' before the explanations started and the book picked up. I really liked the extra characters in the book, and I hope we'll see them in book 3!
Book two in the series was even better then one. Both books can be read as a stand alones but their good so read them both. The book is full of Passion and drama with a wonderful HEA. If you like a good shifter romance get this book
What a wonderful world of magic! During war, sometimes we really do not know what they are fighting for! I thought this book took to account the pros and cons to using magic! But there was a happy ending and hardly any magic necessary!
Emma and Jasper are mates. She has commitment issues. There are things she doesn't know about her father. Emma cares for Jasper but her running is an issue for both of them.
*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*
This is about a 3.5 for me. I liked it, but a few things personally didn't click with me so while it was a fast read, the emotional roller coaster made it feel longer than it was. Ems is a complex character, so I could totally get behind that, but her constant back-and-forth was tiring for me. The end didn't make it worth all the things I went through but again, I think maybe this story just wasn't for me. The writing was pretty fun, a little long in the angst department but it was exciting and I did enjoy the parts that had a certain bear shifter. Overall, check it out if you've read the first book and like bear shifters with a little twist.
This is the second book in the Bear Kamp series. Emma, Kate’s friend from Book 1, is happy for the love Kate found with Austin. But Emma’s experience with males in her life has not been good. Her dad left her, her boyfriend cheated, her dates only want one thing. So she was not interested in a relationship; it wasn’t worth the pain. She did, however, take notice of Jasper, Austin’s friend and fellow bear shifter and knew she needed to stay away from him or risk losing her resolve. Unfortunately for her, Jasper had recognized her as his mate! With all the confidence of a bear, he would pursue her relentlessly!
When Jasper showed up at her home to console her after she lost her job, he saw another man leaving. He shifted in anger and would have attacked the man if Emma hadn’t stepped between. The man drove off, but Jasper smelled the man’s scent on her and angrily left. When he showed up at the bar, he bullied her over to his car so he could drive her home. He forcefully told her she was never to be with another man or let another touch her. This was a totally wrong approach! But inside, the part of Emma that cared about him fought with the anger she had dealt with over the years. Both were so stubborn! Would they be able to break down the walls of fear and mistrust that kept Emma from wanting a relationship? Would Jasper be able to adjust his approach to let her see that they were meant for each other?
This was another good story in this series. I enjoyed it very much. The story line and character development let the reader see the feelings Emma and Jasper were each struggling with. The frustrations and stubbornness at times seemed insurmountable. Will they find their HEA? Grab a copy of the book and see how it all turns out. There is so much more to come! I voluntarily read a review copy of this book and my comments reflect my honest opinion.
I was so excited to read this story, and was not disappointed. This book is about Emma, a woman who guards her heart to the extreme, and Jasper, a bear shifter, who is afraid his bear will go feral if he doesn't find his mate. Emma and Jasper are true soulmates. Emma has to conquer her past fears and Jasper has to give her space, but it is not so easy. They are truly hurting themselves not being together. Emma reveals some plot twist about her past that can truly help her open her heart, but she must speak to her mother, Stella. The book has a an ending that one might find shocking but wonderful. I don't want to reveal too much.
I hope there is more books coming out with this series, cause I swear there is something between Stella and Rick!
