All Dressed in White by Mary Higgins Clark and the 3rd book in the Under Suspicion Series, written in collaboration with Alafair Burke, featuring Laurie Moran, a television star, who has her own show that investigates cold cases.

Laurie is asked by a distraught mother, to investigate the disappearance of her daughter, Amanda Pierce, on the night before her wedding five years ago.
Labeled all those years ago as the Runaway Bride crime, it had never been resolved.

Laurie’s producer agrees to her doing the show, she immediately gets the wedding party from that event together at the place where the wedding was supposed to have taken place.

It felt a bit like an Agatha Christie novel…..get all the possible suspects together in one place and gather more information about the night of the bride’s disappearance.

Having accepted to appear in her show are the missing bride, Amanda Pierce’s parents, her groom who has since married Meghan White, her friend and bridesmaid, Charlotte Pierce, her sister, Kate Fulton, friend and bridesmaid, Henry Pierce, her brother and the groomsmen, Nick Young and Austin Pratt. All seem to be keeping secrets and grudges.
Revelations include family drama, deception, rivalry, money that ends in the most unexpected and shocking climax.

The writing style is smooth, clever misdirections about who could be the killer, great plot, likeable characters, fabulous location, romance, suspense, mystery…all adds up to another great read by these authors.

Book 3 brings another likable story with a wide range of characters and a classic "who-dunnit" premise. Really liking the plot and the outcomes of this series.

Under Suspicion had become very successful in the short time Laurie Moran had been running the show. When searching for their next cold case in the series to investigate, Laurie had been approached by Sandra Pierce, the mother of a young woman who had been touted in the media as “The Runaway Bride" – five years previously Amanda had been with her family and bridal party at The Grand Victoria Hotel in Palm Beach in the days before her big day. Then with only one full day left until the ceremony, Amanda had vanished.

As the Under Suspicion team researched and investigated, their preparations took them to the Florida hotel, where they were to recreate the night of Amanda’s disappearance. Even though the members of the original wedding party had moved on with their lives, they had all agreed to come together to try to discover what had happened. Along with Amanda’s fiancé now being married to her best friend, also a member of the wedding party, Laurie could tell the vibes from other people within the group were varied. The jealousy and blame, theories and speculations were intense – Laurie and her team, including host Alex Buckley knew this mystery would deepen; the lies would intensify, before the truth would hopefully be exposed…

When I read the first in this series, The Cinderella Murder by author Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke I thoroughly enjoyed it. Book #2, All Dressed in White is another gripping instalment; I’ll be continuing with this series! Filled with twists and turns that lead the reader first one way, then the next; I found I couldn’t put it down. All Dressed in White is a fabulous crime/mystery novel which I have no hesitation in recommending highly.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy to read and review.

Every now and then, I just want to sit back and be entertained. Mind you, I still want a good whodunit - I'm just not in the mood for blood and guts, big guns blasting in the desert or super-heroes (or heroines) who can take down a dozen martial arts professionals with one hand tied behind their back and the other in a cast.

Enter Mary Higgins Clark, who's pretty much guaranteed to come through on that score, and this one - the second in the Under Suspicion series co-written with Alafair Burke - fills the bill nicely. It's well written in what I'd call "civilized" language, has a well-thought-out plot and believable characters and held my attention throughout.

Like its predecessor, The Cinderella Murder (which earned 4 stars from me, BTW), this one features New York reality TV show producer Laurie Moran, who's trying to settle on the cold case to showcase in her next investigative series titled Under Suspicion. Just as she's about to make her pick, she's visited by the still-distraught mother of an almost-bride named Amanda who disappeared on the eve of her wedding in Palm Beach five years ago. The mother pleads with Laurie to do a show about her daughter, and after some checking around, Laurie agrees it's a great idea. So, she and her team head to Florida to recreate the pre-wedding activities at a posh hotel, reeling in members of the wedding party to be interviewed by show host (and Laurie's love interest) attorney Alex Buckley.

The actions and emotions of all the wedding participants are put under the microscope as Laurie, helped by her retired-cop father, start digging deeper into what really happened. As might be expected, just about every character comes under suspicion at one point or another right up to the end, when the murderer is revealed. I didn't guess the identity of the culprit beforehand, but neither was I surprised since they all had reason to at the very least dislike Amanda and most also had means, motive and opportunity.

If you like murder on the lighter side - even once in a while, like me - give this one a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

“If it's meant to be, it will happen naturally.”
― Mary Higgins Clark, All Dressed in White

I am a big Higgins Clark fan. One can always count on her to deliver a great mystery! Yet this book, All Dressed in White did not grab me at all and I am not sure why.

I liked the set up. A Bride mysteriously vanishes and years later, still unsolved, this mystery is being worked as a cold case.

In some ways, the book had a bit of intrigue as it was a genuine who done it. The issue for me was it seemed to move rather slowly and I just lost interest over time. Rather then becoming increasingly involved, I be came less so and wound up skimming.

It also was not scary or creepy in the slightest. It sort of felt like a cozy mystery.not my favorite genre.

All in all, It was not bad but not really for me. I prefer other Higgins Clark books. My all time favorite by her is "Loves music, loves to dance". That one moves so quickly and sucks you in.

For those who like "slow burn" mysteries, something I often like as well, this maybe a good pick.

I've been going through my eARCs and the best part is when I discover that my audiobook service has books I have had for a long time to read. Like this one. Confession, I have never read a Mary Higgins Clark book before, despite that she has written A LOT of books. So, this one was my first and I quite liked the book.

The book feels a bit like reading Murder she Wrote episode if you know what I mean. A crime has been committed and someone in the group around the person has committed the crime. Now the person investigating the crime, in this case, Laurie Moran who has a cold case TV series. I liked Laurie Moran, she is a good character and I liked how bringing all the people to a reenactment of the wedding finally gave some answers to the missing bride question.

This is not the most complex kind of story, but it's very pleasant. The narrator was good and I quite enjoyed this not too long story about a missing bride. Frankly, this book was so pleasant that when I found a Mary Higgins Clark book in the library at work, where we can leave and take books, did I bring it home with me. I liked the structure of the book and I definitely will read more Mary Higgins Clark books when I feel like I want something between heavier and more draining books.

I've been reading Mary Higgins Clark's mystery thrillers for a decade now, and I've read so many of them that I've already lost count. She is my go-to writer whenever I want a heart-pounding mystery. And this book did not disappoint in that aspect.

All Dressed in White is the second novel in her Under Suspicion series, which features our heroine, Laurie, as she tries to uncover the truth about Amanda Pierce's disappearance. Amanda went missing 5 years ago, just a day before her dream wedding. Everyone assumed that she had "cold feet," or she planned out the disappearance to get away from her family's overbearing presence in her life.

But of course, things are not as they appear. Everyone is a suspect, each having their own motive to silence Amanda. Lies are spoken, secrets revealed.

And the most terrifying thing about this story? Mary Higgins Clark narrates it in a way that draws you in the maelstrom of deceit, hatred and envy. You have no way of escaping.

So if it's such an emotionally compelling book, why the three stars? Well, the ending was underwhelming, and Laurie was not what I expected from Mary Higgins Clark's heroines. Some of the characters I absolutely hated (yeah, I'm a big stickler for morality and I just couldn't tolerate what they did). Plus, the romance between Laurie and Alex was handled rather poorly.

Would I read more of this series? I'm not really sure. I honestly prefer her stand-alone books.

Please don’t think I am heartless but Laurie still holding on after five years is getting a bit annoying. At this point she is being beyond selfish to Alex. The suspense and mystery plots were entertaining and kept me enrapt. I really love his series so far and can’t wait to go ahead and move on to the next installment.

My quick and simple overall: quick and entertaining.

"There was something comforting about certainty; a restoring of order."

°•*⁀➷

I will always love any book that mentions Derek Jeter and this one was no exception. I love that each book I read in this series seems to pick right back up from where the last lets up even with a time jump. The cases are interesting, and the love even more so. I think these were the perfect books to get me used to Mary Higgins Clark writing style because now all I want to do is go back and try others again.

She's just got a way about her.

I love watching Laurie grow in every story. To see her work through her grief from losing her husband and not push herself to love someone when she's not ready is so special, and so entirely realistic and mature. I cannot get over how much I'm loving watching her take on the world. I love that Alex has never pushed her to move on, nor does he blame her for not being able to do so at his pace. I can't wait to see where their relationship goes in book four, if time apart for their jobs will help Laurie to realize maybe she can fall for someone new.

And the case in this one was very interesting. Maybe not as exciting as the last two I've read, but watching it all come together in the end is so much fun. I do love the love that the love triangle was not even a tiny bit of a reason for murder, and that in the end, a happy beginning started.

What a great read.

Challenge Criteria (Popsugar): Two Female Authors

Book: All Dressed in White

Author: Mary Higgins Clark & Alafair Burke

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

Summary: Five years ago Amanda Pierce was excitedly preparing to marry her college sweetheart in a lavish ceremony at The Grand Victoria Hotel in Palm Beach. Then, with their guests and families on site, Amanda disappeared.

In present-day New York City, Laurie Moran realizes a missing bride is the perfect cold case for her investigative television series, Under Suspicion. She and her team set out to recreate the night of the disappearance at the Florida resort with Amanda’s friends and family in attendance, hoping to shed new light on the mystery as the series has done in past episodes. With a jealous sister, playboy groomsmen, Amanda’s former fiancé now married to a bridesmaid, and rumors about the “beloved” bride herself, Laurie and Under Suspicion host Alex Buckley quickly realize everyone has a theory about why Amanda vanished into thin air.

One thing is certain: whoever was behind Amanda’s disappearance plans to keep the truth hidden “until death do they part…”

________________________________________

What I Liked:

*Nothing? Honestly, I didn't care for the characters, the mystery was blah, and the writing style was not good in my opinion.

*Ok, the very end. The very end had me full of a little tension during the big showdown. I was a little surprised at who the bad guy was, but besides that, I didn't like it.

________________________________________

What I Didn't Like:

*Plot & Characters. The characters were nothing memorable. I've already forgotten most of their names. I didn't really feel for Sandra (the mother of the disappeared bride) that much. Her daughter, one moment while I go find her name, Amanda went missing a day before her wedding, and five years later, the case is cold but Sandra still wants to find her. So she goes to a reality TV show called Under Suspicion to help her find out what happened to Amanda. Her ex, Walter, her other daughter Charlotte, the rest of the bridal and groom parties all agree and at 45% into the book, they are JUST about to fly down to the resort in Florida where the wedding was to take place. 45% into the book???? I'm not entirely sure why I didn't DNF at that point.

*Writing Style.

She thought about the photographs Jeremy had given her. Did she finally know who killed Amanda?

Maybe.

That is literally the end of a chapter. It seriously grated on my nerves. Imagine your grandmother reading to you:

Grandma:She thought about the photographs Jeremy had given her. Did she finally know who killed Amanda? What do you think sweetheart?

(You tell her what you think)

She says: Maybe. Let's read on to find out.

That's how I felt. I didn't like it. It didn't work for me. And why would you end a chapter with "maybe"?!! I don't feel suspense. I don't feel thrilled. I feel frustrated!

*Queen of Suspense. Mary Higgins Clark is known as the Queen of Suspense. That means that she writes amazing books that have you turning pages into the wee hours of the morning. This book though, did not match my expectations. I wasn't thrilled, there wasn't any 'suspense', and it kind of felt like a Nancy Drew Files/Nancy Drew Girl Detective book without threats, high speed chases, and constant worry and fear. They flew down to the scene of the crime 45% into the book! They should have been there from like the second or third chapter, investigating, interrogating, and trying to pick out what happened. There are 74 chapters in this book with a pro and epilogue and they finally went to Florida in Chapter 32! I didn't feel any suspense, and since she is the Queen of Suspense, I expected a lot more than what I got.

________________________________________

That's the end of my little rant. I'm quite sorry to say that this was a one star. I did not like it. I will not recommend it. And I'm staying far away from any MHC books for a while.

Have you read All Dressed in White? What did you think? And have you read any other book by Ms. Clark? Did you enjoy it? Do you think I should try some of her other books? Let's chat in the comments!

Very, very tricky Ms. Clark...just when I start to complain (loudly) that you're losing you're wonderfully campy, melodramatic edge you up and start writing with the super fresh and super talented Alafair Burke!!!! Well played madame, well played...

If you've read any of my previous Mary Higgins Clark reviews (which I encourage as they are funny) you will know that I hold this lovely, perfectly coiffed (to the point where I am certain she shellacs her head every morning) maven of the soap opera mystery scene warmly in my little, mass market mystery loving heart. No where else will you find better looking heroines! No other author quite manages to describe in astoundingly minute detail every single piece of furniture in a room down to its builder and price, the exact paint shade of any wall, or each article of clothing each of the characters in a scene are wearing like Ms. Clark. There is simply no other author who quite lands the incredibly tricky "total psychopath murderer who murders people just cause!" trope like her!

But, but, but it must be said that her last several novels have missed the mark. Oh the heroines are as successful and well dressed as ever and the murderers are still murdering for no good reason but the spark has kind of gone out.

Until now!!!! I am pleased as punch to tell you all that the delightful Ms. Burke who's own The Ex so delighted me a few weeks ago, has breathed some much needed life back into the old girl! We still get all the Clark trademarts (overly described clothes and hairstyles and more characters than you'd find at a Duggar family reunion) but the plot is moving again! There's even some dramatic tension and I found myself full of a shocking amount of interest in whodunnit!?!?

All Dressed In White is actually the third in what they're calling the "Under Suspicion" series which began with a book I lambasted called I've Got You Under My Skin where a television "news" program called "Under Suspicion" under the direction of the (beautiful and well dressed and well off) Laurie investigates cold cases (and thus far conveniently solves all of them) by forcing everyone involved to relive the entire horrible sequence of events usually in the place their loved one either died or disappeared. But she's really nice to everyone while she forces them to relive their trauma so its okay.

In this case the TV crew is trying to solve the disappearance of Amanda who vanished five years previously on the eve of a destination wedding in Florida that she may not have wanted to go through with. Her family is torn between believing her dead and wondering if she started a new life somewhere else and there's a list of suspects a mile long. But, Laurie and her team are on the case and before we can say "Random Psycho" five times fast she's accused practically every character and stumbled onto some pretty obvious evidence actual police somehow missed and all comes to a happy end!!!! Well except for the dead people. And the psycho.

This was super fun, and trashy but (and I strongly suspect Ms. Burke's hand here) there was a surprising and totally uncharacteristic amount of depth and feeling to some of these characters and some hidden agenda's that went more than a little above and beyond the usual Clark "I'm just doing this cause I'm crrraaaazzzyyyyyy even though I've seemed totally normal up till now" plot. I sped right through this and was heartily entertained the whole way through!

Huzzah for trashy mysteries!!!!!

Getting your hands on the latest Mary Higgins Clark book is just like popping on an old pair of comfy pjs and knowing exactly what to expect, a cosy, easy to read, mystery. This author has written many books and her formula seems to work very well, a murder (or disappearance in this case) a cast of suspects who all seem to have something to hide, told in short chapters (just one more before I go to sleep!) with a neatly tied up ending.
This is the second novel about the Under Suspicion tv series that Mary has well-written with Alafair Burke (another favourite writer of crime mysteries). It is a stand alone that takes place after "The Cinderella Murder" and again features Laurie Moran who's husband Greg was murdered in "I've got you under my skin". Laurie is visited by Sandra Pierce, the mother of Amanda, who disappeared the day before her wedding 5 years ago. Known as The Runaway Bride, it is assumed she got cold feet but Laurie suspects foul play and gathers all those in the wedding party back to the luxury resort where the wedding was due to take place 5 years beforehand. With host Alex and the team they plan to film Under Suspicion and hopefully solve the mystery of what happened to Amanda.
Don't be put of by the addition of Alafair Burke here as this is a classic Mary Higgins Clark mystery, its formulaic approach to solving the crime is as its always been with the short, easy to read chapters. Laurie is a likeable heroine with her cute little boy Timmy and she again has the help of her dad Leo with both childcare and investigating. Her side story of a budding romance with Alex also continues, albeit as a very slow burner!
Recommended for fans of the old Mary Higgins Clark novels and for newcomers to this series.
I received a copy of the book via netgalley in return for an unbiased review.

Amanda is getting married, the day before her wedding she goes missing from the hotel of her destination wedding and not to be found. Five years later her mother contacts a TV program that specializes in unsolved crimes. They agree to get all potential witnesses back together at the hotel where the marriage was supposed to take place and do their own investigation.
This book kept me guessing with red herrings, shenanigans of family and friends that needed to be investigated. My guesses of who dunnit were constantly changing. Enjoyed this classic who dunnit that also included Mary Higgins Clark’s trademark suspense.

“All Dressed in White” by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke

“All Dressed in White” is the second book in the Under Suspicion series co-authored by the much esteemed Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke.
Laurie Moran’s wildly popular crime show, Under Suspicion, features profiles of cold cases in hopes of finding a resolution. Missing persons is not their usual forte, but when the mother of Amanda Pierce asks Laurie to help her uncover the truth about her daughter’s mysterious disappearance, Laurie agrees to look into the case.
Amanda and Jeff were the golden couple, all set to begin their life together. But, on the eve of their wedding, Amanda vanishes without a trace. Had she simply walked away or did someone murder her? Who stood to gain from her death? Who were her enemies? What secrets will float to the surface once Laurie and her team start digging around in the past? Will they find Amanda dead…or alive?
I love cold case mysteries more than any other type, so after reading “The Cinderella Murder,” I knew this series was for me. While the first book was very good, this second installment is even better.
It’s bad enough when someone is murdered and years pass without justice being served, but when someone disappears for five long years, it’s unlikely they simply ran away. Still, by now the details are murky, there is no body, no proof of a crime, and people have moved forward with their lives. But, bringing all the players back together to tape the show reveals a few cracks in the armor within Amanda’s own family, her friends, and with the all too perfect fiancé.
This story is absorbing and kept me guessing all the way to the bitter end. I loved it! The pacing is perfect, the story is compelling, the mystery is a real puzzler, and is written by two of my favorite female mystery writers. This is a clean mystery, without graphic details and the language is very mild, making this a story everyone can enjoy.  4.5 stars.

A very good thriller. Nice, solid entertainment and a huge surprise at the end. Never expected this figure to be the bad person who took all these lives. But I would have liked it very much to get to know a bit more about the relationship between Amanda and her elder sister Charlotte. But okay, you can't have everything.
I liked the way this thriller was written, very much. Fast, diversified, a great plot and characters who aren't what they seem to be at first sight. If you like Mary Higgins Clark in combination with Alafair Burke, you should read this book.

This has been my first MHC book I've read in years! Back in the day, I only read mysteries and she was always one of my top authors to read. I don't know why I stopped reading her books. Her books are easy fast reads but manage to capture your attention to keep you reading late into the night. What I like about MHC books is that its just simply a mystery. Not a lot of suspense and gore; just trying to solve the case. There's no intricate details either. It was a classic MHC story. I haven't read the first book in the series, The Cinderella Murder, but I'll be looking forward to getting to it soon.

I believe I'm correct in thinking this is my first MHC mystery. What was I waiting on? Strong characters, an intriguing plot, and an end I didn't see coming. Well done! I'll be checking out more books by this author, and I know there are a lot of them out there.

Note: Completely clean, no language, no violence (though it is a murder mystery).

As a longtime fan of Mary Higgins Clark I am always excited about reading her newest books. Honestly though her books lately have gotten predictable and not as exciting but her newest series Under Suspicion with Alafair Burke has helped returned her to her spot as the queen of suspense.
All Dressed in White like my other favorite Mary Higgins Clark books was hard to put down. I sped through it enjoying all the twist and turns that kept me caught up in the story and having to know what happened next. The moment you think you solved what happened to Amanda Pierce something new is added to send you back to square one. This is actually the first book in a long time that I did not figure out right away and left me surprised.

It's been while since i have read a Mary higgins clark book and now I remember why. I really do not like how she writes. The characters are in a dialogue things are interesting but then she stops to write the background of every character or rehash what i just read a chapter or two before and I hate that she does it throughout her novels. It doesn't flow for me and makes me lose my interest. I read the first 10-12 chapters, was absolutely bored and skipped toward the end; about 6 (short) chapters before it ended. What's funny is that I didn't miss a thing even though I skipped the majority of the novel because she keeps giving a summary of every event that happens throughout the book so I was able to catch up what i had missed in the middle.

It's been a very long time since I read a book by Mary Higgins Clarke. I received this one from netgalley and the publisher in return for an honest review. Many thanks to them.

This is the second book in the 'Under suspicion' series. It is again written as a suspense novel but this time Ms Clarke is co-writing with Alafair Burke.
Like all the others I've read this one did not disappoint. I loved the short snappy chapters. The storyline was very good. I suspected many people of committing the crime and I didn't figure it out until just before it was revealed in the book.

Mary Higgins Clark, the undisputed Queen of Suspense is back with a story that will once again have you guessing until the very end! The show Under Suspicion is back for a new season and this time Laurie Moran and her crew are working on a cold case about a missing bride. The question, if the young bride to be was murdered than where is her body? If she wasn't murdered than where could she be hiding? This story will leave you guessing until the very end! I highly recommend this book!
