There is no question that there are some great strengths to the DIR system of diving and this book provides a lot of valuable information for every diver. However, this book is written with quite a haughty, over-inflated opinion of the "correctness" of GUE practices and the "incorrectness" of any other diving practices. There are aspects of the DIR system that I and many other highly trained and experienced technical divers disagree with. Like any other system, DIR should be evaluated on its own merits. There are valuable pieces and detrimental pieces, and the diver should educate him or herself regarding the choices they make, rather than blindly do something because GUE told them to. This book can be a valuable part of that education, as can a GUE Fundamentals course (you certainly will get much more out of this course than you would get out of most recreational courses) but DIR is not the only way to do things (though aspects of it are certainly so useful that they really are the only way to do a certain thing in technical diving.)

Good review of diving fundamentals. It could be useful for recreation divers who are thinking about mastering their skills.
