Douglas Valder Duff was born in Rosario de Santa Fe in the Argentine where his father, Arthur Joseph Duff, was the British Consul. He was the eldest son of Arthur andhis wife Florence, nee Valder. His godfather was Roger Casement who later became notorious by being hanged for treason in the First World War.
He wrote over 80 books under his own name and also used the pseudonyms Douglas Stanhope, Alan Paxton, Leslie Savage, Peter Wicklow and 'Mainsail'.
1950s’ story for older children. Much of it based around boats and submarines, as is much of the author’s other novels. A spin on 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea with an alien instead of Captain Nemo. Not much sci-fi but plenty of middling adventure.
Cracking adventure. Can't wait to read this to my kids as they get a bit older. This is one of those books I feel like I have owned forever and I will still pick it up and give it a read. Harks back to simpler times and straight forward adventure and action. Enjoy it for what it is.
