As the Dating Guy on L.A.‘s top morning show, I give the single guy’s perspective on dating, love, and sex—and I give great advice. Everyone’s hooking up…well, except for me. Sure, I can get any woman I want, but I’ve got a “no relationship” clause in my contract and the only woman I want has “relationship” written all over her. Probably stamped on her ass, too. And wouldn’t I like to confirm that.
Unfortunately, she wants nothing to do with me. At all. Something about the next Ice Age might have even come up in her rebuttal. Adorable. Because she’s determined to ignore what one simple kiss proved: she wants me as badly as I want her.
Everything in me is screaming to go after her, but I’ve got a secret that I’m fairly certain will end up with her roasting my nuts over an open fire. So, job on the line? Check. Nuts on the line? Check. Can’t get her out of my head? Nail…meet coffin. But what a way to go…

Talk British to Me is book one in the Wherever You Go series by Robin Bielman. This is my very first book by this author. I won the paperback forever ago and it’s been sitting on my shelf all this time while I stared at the amazing abs on the cover. Finally, I took it down, dusted it off, and jumped in. What a ride it was!
Teague Watters is twenty two years old. She moved from a small town in Oregon to Los Angeles two months ago, with her best friend, Harper (who I loved) to start a new life independent from her loving but protective family. She is also still recuperating from a very broken heart. Teague is working in a coffee house but pretty much by accident, also ends up working as an assistant to a wedding planner. A job she ends up loving.
Mateo Gallagher is twenty three years old. His family is wealthy but his parents expect him to work. He kind of fell in to a job giving dating advice on the radio. The program has become wildly popular. But it’s in the contract that he has to remain anonymous. So he’s been given a fake name and he does the show in a British accent. His job is to literally date people and use his experiences for the show. Not one person except the people at the station know who he is, not even his family.
When Mateo and Teague first meet, we’ll just say it was rather explosive. Such as a platter of wings meeting up with a white shirt! But the connection was there instantly. That meeting of the eyes, that spark. And the next time they meet was almost as explosive, minus the chicken wings. But with Mateo’s big secret and the rules of his contract, he can’t even entertain an interest in the beautiful Teague, even if he wanted a relationship, which he doesn’t. And it’s obvious that Teague is not a one and done kind of girl.
“She’s my sugar rush. The sweet, insanely good thing I want to keep tasting, but I know will be bad for me in the long run. I’ll be bad for her, too.”
These two just can’t seem to stay away from each other. And every time they do see each other, the connection is harder to ignore. They are just so cute together. Teague is sweet and insanely smart. And Mateo is such a good guy. It just took them awhile to finally give in to what they were feeling.
“Falling. I’m falling so fast and hard that there is no chance of catching myself. This, whatever this is, is much bigger than either of us wants to admit.”
I enjoyed this book so much. I loved both Teague and Mateo. I love their names by the way. I thought Teague was the perfect mix of sweet and a little naïve, wicked smart, and just so brave. And Mateo was so swoony. I wanted him to figure things out a little sooner. But I knew he’d get there eventually. The next book in the series is called Lips Close to Mine and is Harper and Levi’s book.
3.5 British Talker / Good Guy Stars * * *1/2 Spoiler Free It's Live!! Ok, let's just say I am shallow... It's ok...I admit the draw to this book was the cover, the idea of a dirty talking Brit had me all excited to read this. Full disclosure, I always love all of that. The hiccup...this was an NA novel. Now those who adore NA will love this... all of the angst and figuring things out.
Because NA is not my thing... I came into this thinking it was about an older group...so MY BAD... I should have learned more about the book before reading
I loved this concept. Basically everything worked. Lots of smart dialogue, chemistry and story.
The drawback was the fella was 23 and I felt his maturity level was so high in many ways... it just didn't match the 23 in my head...Again me.
Those who love NA will enjoy it... Those who love romance will love it too. Give it a go because there is lots to like...Honest.

Talk British to Me- June 19, 2017
A gifted copy was provided by Entangled Publishing, LLC via NetGalley for an honest review.
It's no secret I'm a worshipper at the church of Robin Bielman and, if you've never had the pleasure—which trust me her writing is—then now is the time to put that right.
Flirty and charming, Mateo Gallagher is a huge hit with the ladies both as himself and his alter ego, radio presenter, Bennett. I'll be honest, it took me a little time for him to win me over, largely down to his cocky, self-confident ego which was perhaps exacerbated by the fact that Talk British to Me is written in the first person, from a his-and-her perspective, but win me over he did. Teague on the other hand, was quite the opposite.
"I can’t believe any girl would want to kiss you with all the bull crap that comes out of your mouth."
Quietly confident and smart with a sweeter yet no-mess nature, Teague isn't quite as quick to fall for Mateo's charms as he'd hope, and I flat out loved her. And, as they get to know one another, everything starts to click into place with you just knowing Robin is going to do what she does best: create relatable, memorable characters with a fantastic chemistry, bring the giggles, swoons and make you feel everything from frustration to those flutters brought on by a first kiss. Or in this case roving hands and a way with words.
Yes this is a slower burn romance but, in terms of NA, it's a breath of fresh air being light, low on the drama and angst, and giving you the chance to really get to know Mateo and Teague, whilst at the same time creating sexual tension and anticipation which is worth the wait. And when you add in their fabulous friends and, for those who've read the Secret Wishes series, the return of a few familiar and loved faces, Talk British to Me is a promising start to the Wherever You Go series leaving plenty of scope for more. I'll just be sat over here, impatiently waiting.

I thought this book would be some fun, a light romantic read. On the contrary, what a disappointment it was!
Something between 1 - 2 stars but my hand doesn't go to 2, sorry :(
*********************************************
There is this guy, Mateo, who runs a radio show as "The dating guy” and gives people relationship advice. His show name is Bennett and he fakes a British accent during the show and people love it.
His contract is based on him dating different girls each week and collect information about dating that he can use in his show. Having sex with them is up to him, so he sometimes does and sometimes doesn’t.
*********************************************
Then, he meets Teague one day and feels attracted to her. Teague is not a casual relationship girl, he knows that and although he can’t offer her commitment because of his contract and also because of his decision to live his twenties as a single guy and settle down later, he still flirts with her. It goes on and on for a long while.
First, they become friends that flirt with each other. Then, after a while, he finally makes her say yes to casually having sex with him. Teague is easily attached to people so she cannot manage to not grow feelings for Mateo. Although she feels hurt that he doesn’t want to date her only because she knows he has casual hook-ups, she still gives in and sleeps with him. Although he is sometimes MIA for a week or more, whenever he comes back, she lets him be close to her once again. And of course, when he understands that she has feelings for him, he breaks her heart.
*********************************************
Teague also works as the assistant to Mateo’s mother. She also lets that woman treat her badly. We can say that Teague doesn’t have a backbone. Despite her random sassy remarks, she is a person that finds it hard to say no to people so she is usually abused because of her kind heart.
Wow. Talk about rude. I should say no and walk away. I know I should. The problem is I suck at saying no.
*********************************************
Teague also cannot cuss and it is so annoying for me to read her stupid words like “oh my ducking God”. I mean, in my opinion, either cuss like you should or don't say anything at all!
*********************************************
The whole book is lame and boring. I don’t think it could be more boring than that. Nothing really happens. Mateo doesn’t even ask her to date him until the very end of the book. He keeps saying how important his job is and he cannot put his contract in danger. That bastard!
Well, so it is not a good romance, therefore, what you read is this kind of stuff:
- As Teague works for Mateo’s mother, who is a wedding planner, there are lots and lots of weddings, clients, work business. Brides becoming happy, or brides getting cheated on and being a runaway bride. Anything other than our couple!
- There are gatherings with friends, the neighbor, the neighbor’s six-year old daughter, sisters, brothers, one parent becoming ill etc.
All the mundane and every day stuff that are boring as hell.
- As Mateo gives advise as the Dating Guy, there are also stupid advice from his Bennet personality. His ego is so big that you can’t believe. I never liked him.
My face combined with an accent is like a gift from the gods. Hey, I’m just stating a fact. I’ve done the British thing a couple of times in bars, and the result is women want to worship me. On their knees in the nearest private spot. It’s a burden I have to live with.
And so, yes, the whole book is about some boring and lame stuff until the last 10-20 pages where he confesses his love, and finally asks her to date him.
THE END.
Safety: Although he dates many girls while he was also seeing Teague, he later said to her that he never slept with them after he started to feel attracted to Teague.
*********************************************
The book didn’t make me feel. I didn’t like their connection. I never felt anything in this so-called romance book other than boredom and annoyance.
Not recommended.

P.S. Also this following review sums it all up very well and I couldn't agree with the writer of this review more.
Robin Bielman delivers another outstanding read, and this time its with a new series for Entangled Publishings', Embrace imprint.
Talk British to Me the first book in the new Wherever You Go series took two completely different, but ambitious twenty somethings and put them in each other’s orbit in a series unexpected meetings, as well as a number of funny scenarios thrown in for good measure. Mateo is happy living his life one date at a time, whilst anonymously fronting a radio show about dating, Teague is very much the traditional dater, one-night-stands are not her MO.
Just because I hit it and quit it doesn’t mean I don’t treat my date like she walks on water…
So initially they agree to be friends, friends that flirt outrageously with each other and have off-the-charts chemistry, but friends nonetheless. The chemistry between the two of them and how Mateo constantly teased Teague about it was what carried this story for me. Robin excels at the banter, and it was stellar for everyone included in this book.
He’s a major heartbreak waiting to happen. And unfortunately I don’t know any other way to be than to lead with my heart…
I loved these two together, both were likeable, the story-line is light, agreeable and low on drama, the author introduces you to a great set of secondary characters who I expect to see more of in forthcoming books while giving Mateo and Teague, a sweet and funny story with lots going on and not a chance to get bored in its reading.
"When you’re ready to touch my lips… Let me know, and I promise I’ll touch yours back."
My only gripe and the reason it didn’t get a five star is the fact it’s written in first person POV. This isn’t a mark against the author as it was written really well, I just personally find it harder to get the emotional connection between a couple when they are talking to the reader. The dual POV is great in giving you the story from both of their perspectives though, I just struggled at points (especially in the first half) to get out to my head and into the story because of it. That said I still absolutely loved it, it was funny, fresh and vibrant, and I cannot wait for more books to be released following on from it.
ARC generously provided by the author, and it was my pleasure to provide the above honest review.
I had such a good time reading Talk British To Me by Robin Bielman.
The writing was well done, the storyline was engaging and the characters Mateo and Teague were likable and very relatable.
I loved watching them get to know each other, from their first meeting I knew these two were going to entertain me. I enjoyed their friendship, I loved watching them open up themselves to each other and how their friendship grew to love. These two might not have been looking for love but when you meet that special one you can't help but follow your heart.
It's no secret I'm a huge fan of author Robin Bielman and her writing. I love her passion, I love her storytelling and I love her beautiful heart. And for me she's once again delivered a heartwarming and entertaining read in Talk British to Me.
This was such a fun read. I love it when the authors take the time to develop an interesting and totally unique plot. This is not a run-of-the-mill romance story but it does lean into the chick-lit and even rom-com categories a bit.
I love the fact that this is a lighthearted read that is without a ton of drama and angst. The author took her time developing the characters along with a great deal of sexual tension and anticipation.
Robin Bielman never fails to deliver a engaging and captivating read. Sweet and saucy, this series is definitely going to be one to lighten your heart and enjoy to the fullest.
To be honest, the title of the book is what drew me in...I'm definitely a sucker for a hot, British talking guy. Unfortunately, that was a bit misleading.
Mateo is The Dating Guy, giving his opinions on the best way to date and win over women. He does a weekly (sometimes more) radio show that Teague and everyone at her work listen to religiously...there's just something about his voice.
But Mateo is very careful to keep his job secret so when Teague runs into him (literally) in a bar, she has no idea he is The Dating Guy; which is kind of nice because she gets to form her own opinion of him.
She happens to get an on the spot job that just happens to be with his mother who is a very popular wedding consultant. It's not really Teague's thing but she starts realizing how much she enjoys it...certain aspects anyway.
When she runs into Mateo again, they are both thrilled to reconnect and start hanging out pretty regularly. Unfortunately, they have a few things against them, namely Mateo's Mom and his secret radio job having a no relationship clause. (and Teague definitely wants a relationship.)
They really try to keep things as just friends but when a surprise weekend throws them together, they decide to throw caution to the wind and just enjoy the hell out of each other...for the weekend only.
However, it's hard to turn off your feelings and then when a traumatic situation occurs and Mateo is there for Teague, it's fairly obvious where her feelings have gone. Mateo doesn't know what to do and when he's called back home, that seems like the easiest way to let go.
Teague is trying to soldier on but when a wedding mishap throws them together again, she has a hard time staying strong. Mateo realizes what he wants and a little outing with his precocious six year neighbor affords him the perfect opportunity.
Thankfully, it works out rather well and I loved how their jobs aligned so well.
We get to know Teague's best friend, Harper, really well but Mateo's roommate, Levi, not so much. That's all going to change when their book comes out, Lips Close to Mine on November 13, 2017.
New-to-me author, Robin Bielman, completely swept me off my feet with this new adult romance. She brings us a light-hearted, fun, and swoony romance that was entertaining to the max. It was a flirty and unique story that kept me intrigued and giddy through the very end. Ms. Bielman gives us a slow burn romance that will keep you wanting more. Mateo and Teague were a great pair. Great chemistry with hilarious and flirtatious banter. This may have been my first read from this author, but it definitely will not be my last. I'm HOOKED!
REREAD: 3/2019--Just as fabulous as the first time.
5+ STARS!
A huge congratulations to Ms. Bielman on such a captivating romance. Bielman hooked me from page one. The characters are relatable, believable, and so compelling, I didn't want to leave them. Brilliant, charming, swoon-worthy and a wonderfully satisfying HEA. Can't WAIT to read Levi's story next. :)
I really liked Robin's books, but admittedly I struggled through this one. Maybe because of the extensive dialogue between Teague and Matteo and the number of times he just dumped her on her ass and his timing couldn't have been worse.
The book starts off great Teague and Harper are best friends who work in a coffeeshop together, they live in the guest house of Harpers Aunt and Uncles mansion, not too shabby and every day at 8 on the dot the whole coffee shop goes quiet as they listen to "the Dating Guy" on the radio. Complete with a british accent his sole job is to date and report on them ( what women like, what men like etc) and he also goes out with his friends to observe other couples also, using that as fodder for his radio show. Matteo is smart stupid, maybe he can make a living off a radio program but he scores a massive fail in his own private life.
Part of Teague's little coffee thing is to deliver up the street to an office which happens to be a wedding planner and a massive b%^&*!!!! Gabriella is demanding, bitchy and flat out controlling and mean ( and she's Matteo's mother) So when these two get together in their round about way she can't find out.
Teague and Harper were great together and had each others backs. Teague is close to her dad, she's the baby of the family, youngest of 4. Her family is close. The only this decent about Matteo's family is his Dad and we only see him for a couple lines. Matteo has a group of guys he played soccer with, they all live together and really seem supportive of each other. Matteo has only had one serious realtionship which trainwrecked when his girlfriend dumped him in his hospital room after he severely injured his leg and would never play soccer again.
Why am I telling you all this? To give you an idea of how convoluted the story gets. I think without all the side entertainment tossed in as a distraction, Matteo and Teague were enough to keep it going. She was good enough to fuck after a lengthy period of time on her part, but not good enough for him to take out on a date. Matteo gets the big thumbs down. Teague I really liked and Harper too. When I say I struggled with this it took my three days to excavate my way through this and that's a first.
**arc from NetGalley and Entangled in exchange for a fair review**
I adore this author, and I’ve read everything she’s ever written, but after this one I gotta say if you think you know Robin Bielman, think again. She’s upped her game to a whole ‘nother level with Talk British to Me! Hold on to your e-reader and prepare for a fun, sexy, bloody brilliant ride.
Mateo and Teague’s story sizzles with the thrills and angst of figuring out careers, friendship and love, Millennial-style. It’s complicated, right? But underneath the wild shenanigans, crazy bosses, and hot hook-ups, there’s a boy-meets-girl story as classic as the Union Jack.
Ah, Mateo. Cocky as hell, and charming as sin. You won’t be able to resist him. Here’s a glimpse as to why:
“I’m not kissing you.” “And you want to. You’re bummed you missed your chance.”
“I’ve done the British thing a couple of times in bars, and the result is women want to worship me. On their knees in the nearest private spot. It’s a burden I have to live with.”
And Teague gives it right back, in laugh-out-loud doses. She’s adorkable, and she knows it.
I hated to reach ‘The End,’ but the cast of secondary characters like Harper, Levi and Elliott give me hope there’s more sexy fun to come!
I was absolutely enthralled with Talk British To Me right from the first chapter. It was light, funny and outright adorable. Mateo and Teague were just perfect.
Mateo was egotistical, sexy as hell, sweet and just plain fun.
Teague was original, adorable. She was everything a girl should be all rolled into one.
Mateo was off-limits in more ways than one.
Teague knew Mateo was out of her reach but couldn’t help lusting after him.
Mateo had a secret.
Teague just wanted her own happily-ever-after.
Put all this together and you have the makings of a hell of a story with a storyline that was bright and interesting.
Between the banter at the coffee shop, the banter between Mateo and Teague, the comments about Bennett and everyone being totally in love with him, Mrs. Gallagher and the stream of demanding brides, and a little girl that had Tayo’s number … I laughed through a lot of this story. I do know that I didn’t stop smiling. I was thrilled with the way the story flowed and with all the characters. And, I would be totally remiss if I didn’t mention just how compatible everyone in the story was. There was not one character that I absolutely despised … Harper, Elliot, Levi, Madison, even Gabrielle didn’t really get under my skin. I loved the sexual innuendos by Mateo and Teagues come-backs. I loved how they just finally gave in and went for it knowing that it couldn’t go anywhere. I loved how Mateo was there just when Teague needed him and how her family greeted him with open arms, well, most of them. Most of all, I loved how, when it came down to it, Mateo realized what was missing in his life and decided to just go for it.
Robin Bielman is a new to me author and I really want to read more from her. She has a way with telling a story that really kept me invested in the characters and wondering just how she was going to bring them together. Her writing was fresh and witty – she knows how to write romance. Her characters were sexy and sweet – she knew just the right time to finally bring them together. The story was definitely over a little too quick for me and I hope to read a lot more of her books.
Eu gostei desse livro.
3.5-4 Stars! I didn't want to put this book down even though Mateo was very full of himself. Jeeeeeezzzzzz!! I wish he would of shut up sometimes! Haha! Loved Teague though!! Hope we are getting Harper and Levi's story next:))
Unpopular review ahead, which kills me because I like the author's other books.
My issues: 1) the heroine - dear God, grow a backbone. The hero flirts with other women, solidifies plans for other dates etc in front of her, and she still "just can't resist him". How is this realistic? What grown woman with an iota of self-respect would continue like a sad puppy drooling over this guy? Speaking of which... 2) the hero - just, no. Alpha is one thing. Confidence is good too. This guy? Total asshat that thinks he's God's gift to ALL women. His ego is ridiculous, his self-commentary on all the women he's satisfied is too much. Just no redeeming qualities, sorry. 3) plot - too many random side stories clearly being set up for future books. Also, almost no resolution with her boss (throughout the whole book it was a big deal that she was a bitch and the H/h relationship had to be a secret...then its wrapped up in one sentence that she just had to accept it....ummmm what?). 4) the writing - first let me say I really like Robin Bielman. Having said that, this book just didn't even read like it was hers. New Adult books are fine...this felt like I was reading about teenagers that were overindulged. Hero is rich with a job AND trust fund, but lives with pot-smoking friends to save money for a house "one day"? Just go buy the damn house!! All the main characters talked about was the hotness of the other. It got old...fast. Hanging out to play drinking games and get high? Nope, not my cup of tea.
Sorry to say I ended up skimming towards the end because it was that painful. I hate giving one star, but I just can't recommend this at all.

After reading the blurb, teasers, and a few reviews I was expecting a lot from TALK BRITISH TO ME. I have never read a book by Robin Bielman before, but I was expecting to be impressed. Not only was I not disappointed, my expectations were exceeded. LOVE. LOVE. LOVED Mateo and Teague... and Bennett. And Harper, and Briggs, and Zoe, and Elliott, and Erin, and the rest of Mateo's flirty friends who I hope to read more about soon.
Mateo Gallagher is flirty, charming, tall, dark, hot and sexy, and dirty talking and cocky -- completely full of himself in a very irresistible way. He adds a British accent to this and charms his way into the hearts of women over the radio anonymously as Bennett, the Dating Guy. That's right, it's his job to date numerous women and then give pointers to men and women about what to do and not to do out in the dating world to find their true love. Mateo loves his job and has no intentions of settling down with just one girl. Let me just say right here, one of my favorite aspects of the story was how staff and customers alike at Teague's coffee shop shushed and stopped what they were doing so everyone could hear the Dating Guy's broadcasts, and then the minute it was over the mute was off and the bustle back on.
Teague Watters has recently graduated from college and moved from a small town in Oregon hoping to make it as a travel writer in the big city of Los Angeles. She is as girl-next-door wholesome as they come. She may still be a relationship kind of girl, but she's already had her heart broken once and is not interested in a repeat. She knows Mateo is way out of her league and nothing but trouble the minute she runs into him, literally runs into him. I love that she doesn't fall for his lines or at his feet like so many other women do, and so does he. She's a breath of fresh air that he finds impossible to resist. Lucky for him they keep running into each other since she keeps blowing him off. Even though he knows he's all wrong for her, he gets her to at least agree to hang out as friends because he can't help wanting more and more time with her.
Mateo and Teague have chemistry to burn, but its a slow burn per the friendship restrictions they agree to even though both of them are falling hard. The author does a great job building the anticipation of when these two will finally get together. She throws in several twists and roadblocks. Gives us plenty of entertainment to keep us interested and busy, while we wait, not the least of which being "Tayo's" adorable little six year old neighbor, Zoe, who has him twisted around her little finger with her sassy, pull no punches attitude. But also the various bride drama (Teague gets a job as the assistant for a wedding consultant) and the hilarity that is Harper, Teague's best friend and roommate. Great character building and dialogue -- the banter is awesome! This story is well-rounded, hilarious, sexy, and romantic. Even Mateo, for all he goes on about what a serial dater he is, his broadcasts as Bennett are insightful and have that bit of romance about them. Great story! Highly recommend you read it. 4.5 stars
~Complimentary copy downloaded from NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I enjoyed this one a lot. It was a bit of a slow burn, but the end made it worth it. Great character development throughout, and you couldn't help but love Mateo a little.
Looking forward to what's coming next from Robin Bielman! Hopefully it's Harper and Levi's story.
Talking about intriguing characters and plotlines …. One of my latest reads comes to mind …
Talk British to Me (Wherever You Go #1) by Robin Bielman
When I read the Blurb I was not sure it sounded like a 50/50 chance of a plot that I would like. I read a book from that author before and liked her writing style so I gave the Plot the benefit of doubt and started reading it. AND it actually turned out to be more than I would have expected.
The plot does not sound like there could be much depth in the story – so please imagine my surprise at how the author gives the characters their own voice. I do not like to go into the storyline because once I start I know I will spoiler stuff and that is something I always try to avoid.
Lets just say the characters are great and have a lot of depth and their funny / witty dialogues will keep the reader entertained. The storyline is intriguing enough so the reader will not want to be disturbed while reading … ~Enjoy
The most important things you need to know about this book:
· It’s freaking adorable. I feel like I can't stress that enough. Freaking. ADORABLE. · The chemistry between Mateo & Teague is on point and full of that flirty, sparky energy I can never get enough of. · I smiled so hard and so dorkily for literally 90% of the story. · Talk British to Me was EVERYTHING and I couldn't get enough of it!
I can’t tell you the last time I enjoyed a book this much. I didn’t skim for a single moment. In fact, this was one of those books that made me want to slow down and draw it out as I neared the end because I wasn’t ready to let go of all these swoony, fuzzy feels. It’s actually impossible to express what I loved most about this book because it all blends together in this perfect, fun, seriously-so-adorable romantic little package.
Let’s start with Teague. Sometimes I felt like there was maybe a little too much emphasis on how perfect she was. But, I mean, she was pretty perfect, so I get it. She really was one of the kindest, strongest, smartest, most relatable heroines I’ve read in a long time. She was refreshingly innocent without being some sort of virginal caricature.
And…Mateo? Guh. GUH.
*ded*
No, seriously. I sometimes really wanted to not like him because I knew there were troubled waters ahead. I adored Teague so the idea that he would hurt her (and we all know that’s inevitable, right?) really grated on me. But he’s so freaking fantastic that I basically sat here googly eyed and twitterpated while he flirted and charmed his way directly into my heart. His sins were not unforgivable. They only made him human, flawed, and a little insecure in a way that I wasn’t exactly expecting but sort of endeared him to me all the more. In the end, he more than compensates for his wrongdoings and…GUHHHHHH. I am so crazy for him!
Crazy for this whole book, actually. The whole package. The fun secondary characters (who I'm hoping I'll get to spend a lot more time with in the future), and the warm natural-feeling relationships that were forged. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, but also heartfelt and emotional in a way that caused my chest to pinch and a pesky lump to form in the back of my throat. It was a nearly perfect reading experience for me, and my grabby hands are flapping around like crazy - ready for so much more where this came from! ~ Shelly, 5 Stars
Mateo knows women and passes on this knowledge across the airwaves every week on L. A.’s highest rated morning show. His job, with all its grind and perks, is to go on dates and give his report on-air. The only drawback is that he can’t reveal his true identity and can’t have a girlfriend. It’s written in his contract even. He loves his job and wouldn’t change it for the world, until he runs into the sweetest woman he’s ever laid eyes on. The only problem is that she won’t give him the time of day, especially when he reveals he’s her boss’ son. The more he’s around her, the more he starts to dislike his job and wants nothing more than to be Teague’s main squeeze. Him, the one man in Los Angeles who every woman wants to sleep with and every guy is envious of, is willing to throw it all away to be the man Teague deserves. Can he reveal his secret to her and will she love him anyway when she learns the truth or will she just love him for his fake British accent?
I’m a sucker for a man with a British accent so when I saw this on Netgalley, I knew I had to read it. It is my first Robin Bielman novel but more on that later.
This is a great new adult romance with a wide cast of characters. There’s Mateo, the sexy player who hides his mended heart until he meets a woman worthy. Then there’s Teague, our heroine and lovable friend. She’s left home to make it on her own in L.A. A chance meeting with the hottest wedding planner in the city gives her the career she’s always dreamt of. Then there’s Mateo’s roommates, the cutest little girl who helps Mateo see reason as well as Teague’s roommate. All combine to provide a laugh-a-minute dialogue peppered with sexual tension and a lesson in taking risks.
Talk British to Me is a scintillating yet refreshing take on romantic comedy and I loved every minute of it. I want more! Oh wait, there’s two more books. I’ll be reading those next.
If you’re looking for a flirty romantic comedy with depth, pick up Talk British to Me! Highly recommend!
Disclaimer: I received a copy from Entangled Publishing, LLC via Netgalley in the hopes I’d review it.
I loved this book. Hot sexy cocky confident Mateo, is one of those guys that will take a while for him to win you over. But even though you may not like his personality he will have you hooked. I absolutely loved Teague, as she didn't fall for Mateo's charms and made him work for it.
I enjoyed this book so much, awesome chemistry between these two, lots of laughing moments and just a book that will leave you wanting so much more.
This story is adorable. I absolutely loved it and enjoyed it so much. There were many laugh-out-loud moments. And not to mention swoon-worthy romance scenes. Teague and Matteo are just perfect. I highly recommend this book if you are a fan of romantic comedies, happily-ever-afters, and lighthearted stories.
Teague is loving her life in California. The only problem is that she is struggling with her rent. But she will make it. It's her first time living alone and it will take some time for her to get her bearings. For now she is working in a coffee shop along with her best friend. Everyone here loves her favourite radio show, but the who can blame them, after all Bennett's accent is to die for. He can talk all day and no one will tire of listening to him. Also his gives best dating advice.
Matteo can't reveal that he is in fact Bennett. His contract states that he must stay single and he must date. Which is fine by him because he loves to date and has absolutely no intention of settling down any time soon. But that all changes when he meets Teague, quite by accident I must add. Now he finds himself falling for one girl and he can't even commit to her. She will soon move on and then where would he be?
For now they are pretending to be 'just friends'. Spending as much time together as possible and falling for each other more, and more every day.
It's very well-written story. I loved all the characters. Teague & Matteo, and all of their friends are amazing. It's most definitely worth the read!
Teague is currently working as a barista and taking a few online classes as she can. Her dream is to be a travel blogger. After a morning coffee delivery to a big client, she suddenly has another job – assistant to a big wedding planner. Turns out her new boss is the mother of the guy she’s been eyeing at the coffee shop.
Mateo is a bit of a trust fund baby, and everyone thinks he’s helping out at a soccer camp for kids. Which, he is. But what no one knows is he’s also the Dating Guy on the popular radio talk show, giving out relationship advice from a guy’s perspective.
Here's the thing -- this one had potential. And for the most part, it was okay --- though I was somewhat bored and felt like everything was dragging on and going nowhere. But that alone is not enough for this rating.
Here’s what dragged my rating down.
First, the fact that his secret identity is not revealed to her until the last fucking chapter, and she doesn't even blink about being lied to or anything, she's just like "Oh, cool, now let's ride off into the sunset forever!". I hate when this happens, because I have a hard time trusting and believing in a couple’s HEA if one person has been lying or keeping a secret from the other until the very end. Nope nope nope.
Again, that alone isn’t enough to result in the final rating, but it definitely contributed to it!
But here was my biggest problem, and one that is treated like a throwaway comment and scene, which only pissed me off MORE because it’s a serious fucking problem: there's a scene where the hero cannot stay in the same room as the DRUNK, NAKED, AND SLEEPING heroine because he cannot "control" himself, so he has to leave, all while still thinking about what he wants to do to her.
Direct quote here for why he cannot get into the bed and GO TO SLEEP BESIDE HER OUT-COLD-DRUNK-ASS: “There Is no fucking way I can get into bed with her now and remain a gentleman.”
Fuck this shit, why does this still show up in romancelandia in 20-fucking-18? STOP IT.
And it’s not like this is the only book with this shit in it. Nope, just since I started doing the podcast, I know I’ve had this same rant at least two other times. In just over 6 months. AND THAT’S JUST FROM WHAT I AM READING, not from what is in the market overall.
Authors, readers, everyone: stop having your character battling for control – and losing – when they’re around their vulnerable, non-consenting partner. Because that’s just one heartbeat away from turning into a rape scene. Burn this type of scene to the ground and don’t let it come back, ever.
Ugh, I’ll stop there because I could yell about this some more but I’d just be repeating myself and rage screaming into the abyss. Neither of which are helpful.
Back to the book: The one saving grace, and probably the only reason I'm rounding up to 1 1/2 Stars, is the dirty talk, when the sex finally shows up, was pretty hot -- though I also wanted more of it. Here’s a little tease:
“Watch,” he says huskily, and slowly eases himself out. “Watch the way we fuck.” I want to cry when he draws back, but then I glance down to where our bodies meet and before he pulls fully out, he stops. Freezes. Actually looking at us so intimately connected is the most erotic thing I’ve ever seen. “Take a deep breath. Can you smell it?” he asks. Then he lazily pushes back in. Only to repeat the slow drag back out. I’m mesmerized. And so on fire, I need him buried to the hilt again. “The sex,” he adds, groaning. “Yes,” I say breathlessly. I can smell the sex. Smell it. See it. Taste it. I’m on sensory overload, and it feels incredible. Mateo feels incredible. “Now please bury your cock back inside me.” “Fuck, I love when you talk like that.” He pounds back into me, driving me wild."
With the exception of the “can’t control myself” scene, Talk British to Me wasn’t a full-on rage-inducing read. But this book had potential that was never reached and left me feeling like I had just wasted days of my life reading it. Oh, and I still want to kick Mateo in the nuts until he stops with his “I can’t control my dick” bullshit. That shit does not belong in our romances. Or in real life. Or anywhere else, for that matter. JUST STOP IT.
I'd like to thank Netgalley for approving me for an ARC. I'm very happy they did because this book was absolutely amazing.
Teague and Mateo are our main characters in this book. We get both POVs, which is awesome and always a plus when it comes to books. Especially, YA books. It's a perfect summer book for anyone who loves romance and young adult.
Now let's get to book reviewing!!!
Teague is a 22 year old who moved to California in pursuit of her dream job. Working in a coffee shop wasn't her idea of "dream" but she works there with her best friend Harper and every Monday, they listen to the dreamy British voice of Bennett. He gives dating advice and naturally, with an accent like that, everyone listens.
Mateo is 23. He has a secret job at the radio station. We get to meet him when Teague runs into him with a plate of hot chicken wings! I know, awesome way to run into a hot guy right?! Teague thinks it's the last that she sees of Mateo. So after a little flirty conversation and an awkward clean up of hot sauce, they go their separate ways.
Teague delivers coffee to a wedding planner named Gabrielle Gallagher. What Teague doesn't expect is a job offer as Gabrielle's assistant. I know this doesn't seem like vital information, but don't worry. I'm getting there.
On her away to work one day, Teague is carrying a few boxes and guess who she runs into?? MATEO
Turns out our handsome Mateo's last name is Gallagher... I'll let that sink in for a bit.
So. Mateo = Bennett AND Mateo = Gabrielle's son.
It's a recipe for disaster waiting to happen.
Our protagonists start to spend more and more time together, inevitably starting to have a connection. Only problem, she wants more and he doesn't. But boys in books tend to have the same mentality. Like they can do whatever they want but as soon as the girl shows interest in another guy, it's all alpha male and jealousy. But that's an issue for another day.
I have to say though, I loved this book. If you love YA and romance, you will no doubt love this book too. It's full of steamy tension and awkward encounters. It's fun and romantic and just really good! I received this as an ARC but I know for a fact that I will be buying the paperback to add to my shelves. It's the perfect summer read that you will no doubt enjoy!
Talk British to Me is the first book in the Wherever you Go series by author Robin Bielman. I have really enjoyed a lot of Robin's other books, so I was pretty set on reading this one when it came out. But then I read the summary for it and I was totally hooked. An American man that poses as a British dating guy to stay anonymous for his popular dating talk show. And a young lady who has a huge crush on said british talk show host, but meets the american version in real life and non-dating hijinks ensue. Umm, yes please!
Talk British to Me is told in dual narrative between Teague and Mateo. I really liked both of the main characters a lot. We got to know them each really well and I loved the slow burn of their relationship. They are great friends first and foremost, even if Mateo wanted to date her pretty much from day one. Well, maybe date is not the right word...
Teague is great. I loved that interwoven with the whole romance aspect of the story was Teague working for Mateo's mother- a very highly sought after wedding planner. That aspect of the story had a Devil Wears Prada kind of vibe going on that I really enjoyed. But the main focus was very character driven with our couple to be. I loved how lighthearted and fun the story was. I very much enjoyed their journey, their friendship and their banter. I didn't want their story to end. I think the series is going to be a group of interconnected standalones, each one focusing on a different couple. This is a model that will work well for Teague and Mateo's two groups of friends.
The only think I wish Talk British to Me had a little more of was the whole radio show host aspect. There wasn't much, if any, off air british talking. I would have liked for Mateo's two lives to have intersected a little more. A close call or two of him being found out would have been a lot of fun, especially if it involved Teague almost finding out. But sadly, that was not the case. It was very drama free, and largely stress free for Mateo in that regard.
Bottom line: Talk British To Me was a light hearted, fun summer romance that I gobbled up in one sitting. I really enjoyed this character driven story and I think you will too. If you are an old fan of Robin Bielman, you won't want to miss this novel, and if you are new to her work Talk British to Me is a fun sexy romance that you will want to check out.
I didn't have any expectations going into this book. But I really loved it!!! Would definitely make an excellent rom-com!!
Mateo Gallagher is cocky as hell (which I love), charming and complete book boyfriend material. When he was first introduced I wasn't expecting his alter ego to be Bennett the "British" radio host for dating show. Was slightly disappointed that he wasn't actually British but I'll live, because Mateo is...Mateo.
Teague on the other hand is your typical reserved, not very experienced with men, gorgeous but doesn't know it and super smart. Not really surprised she ends up being the type of girl to not fall for Mateo's tricks. But that just gives your more of a reason to like her.
The book starts off slow but ends with a sappy bang! I hope to see more come from these characters, particularly Teague's best friend. Yasssss, please!
I was given this book by Netgalley/author for an honest unbiased review!
