A lifelong resident of northern New Jersey, Dawn Altieri has been scribbling stories practically since birth. After reaching a milestone birthday (she won’t say which one), she figured it was about time she took a shot at writing professionally.

With an overactive imagination and a slightly twisted mind, she enjoys reading dark and dangerous tales almost as much as writing them. When she’s not curled up on the sofa with her laptop, her latest story, a box of chocolates and a cup of tea (or a glass of wine, depending on the time of day), she can be found volunteering in the world of animal rescue. To keep a roof over her head, she works in the printing industry as a graphic production artist. She shares her home with her husband and daughter, and a menagerie of rescued fur-babies.

I received this advanced reader copy in exchange for a fair and honest review through netgalley.

This story followed twenty-four year old real-estate developer Chloe Addison, who in the beginning of the story finds herself in hot water when a development she is in charge of burns down under suspicious circumstances—her being the main and only suspect.

Later that night at a bar, Chloe runs into the twenty-six year old out-of-this-world hot fire-fighter, Ryan Monroe who is involved in the case.

As the two begin to get to know each other, they also have to fight the suspicion that Chloe is behind the string of arson attacks, all on her ex-boyfriend and boss’ buildings. This story was full of shifty people, relationship angst and lots and LOTS of secrets.

This book had me reading to the very last page to find out what happened, so many of the secrets that I had a feeling were there, took so long to be aired out but it only added to anticipation I felt throughout most of the book.

I found Chloe’s character to be extremely frustrating. Half the time I really enjoyed Chloe but the other half, she had me wanting to pull my hair out. There was a real imbalance with how she was portrayed, she was either meek and incapable of wiping her own ass without Ryan there to give her instructions or she was yelling at her boss and being an all-round badass. There just wasn’t enough cohesion; it was almost like two different characters.

This is also what I would call a traditional damsel in distress kind of romance story, with Chloe running to and relying on Ryan despite only knowing him for a week or two. I personally didn’t have a problem with this as I don’t mind a good damsel story, but I felt like this story really played into that and the insta-love trope.

Ryan was an extremely lovable (super hot fireman) character, he was humorous, protective and did I mention hot? Honestly though, he was probably one of my favourite characters and he always spiced up the boring parts with his dialog.

“His mom had called him a hopeless romantic. Jeremy had called him a hopeless idiot.”

I think this sums Ryan up pretty well, I think you would either see his actions as romantic or idiotic. And as much as I hate to say it, some of the time when I weighed the risks of their relationship and his actions, I thought Ryan seemed to be a little bit delusional—I mean he admitted that he was ‘falling in love’ with Chloe after knowing her for a week (all the while he was still internally debating whether or not she had set the fires).

The plot was pretty fast paced and interesting, with the whole mystery of who was really setting the fires and framing Chloe. It didn’t have me guessing to the end because I don’t think there was enough characters, with only three real possibilities, but I think the author did a good job of leaving false trails and creating doubt.

There wasn't too many other important character other than Ryan's best friend Jeremy and Chloe's best friend Lizzie.

“Lizzie released Chloe’s arm and stepped aside, smoothing her skirt as several of the employees turned to look in her direction. Her anxious movements convinced Chloe she was trying to avoid guilt by association.”

It frustrated me that Chloe was even friends with Lizzie from the beginning, she was a shallow and self-centred female character. I love to see strong female sticking up for each other, but Lizzie just fell a little flat, seeming to be more of a cliché than a character.

There was no real emphasise on female friendship and support throughout this book with Chloe and Lizzie being the only two female characters (there were a few other females mentioned briefly in a few chapters but they weren’t reoccurring characters) in a book filled to the brim with male characters. All male fire-fighters, police officers and high-ranking real-estate developers, I just wish there had been more female representation.

This was an enjoyable and cutesy read but not one I would probably pick up again, leaning a little too much onto the cliche and well ridden track.

HEA?

This book had the potential to be more. So much more. There is a good amount of angst and trying to figure out who could have been behind it keeps you on your toes. The author writes well and she keeps the story going without any hitch or anything. Add in a sexy firefighter and you are in heaven. Ryan is a fantastic Hero. There are twists and turns to the story.

Yet. The damsel in distress trope doesn’t always work. Here it did and it didn’t. There was so much push and pull between the main characters and well I guess there has to be to a certain extent but our heroine Chloe is a person of interest and Ryan’s boss is working the case and Ryan is also hoping to become a fire investigator. He puts his job on the line for a woman that he has known for a week he is an all-in kind of guy. He’s falling in love yet it still niggles him because she could be the arsonist. I felt like screaming get Reed from the BAU he’ll sort this shite right out.

Chloe also has her demons to fight and I stopped counting the amount of times she said that is a bad idea to date another man and that Ryan isn’t for her. It got tiresome after a while. Chloe as a heroine could have been depicted as stronger with more backbone. There were times where she was meek and then times where she came across as the heroine I wanted her to be.

I can see why this book worked for some and not for others unfortunately it didn’t quite work for me. There is also a lack of connection between the main characters and a lot of unnecessary misunderstanding between the two.

I won’t give up on this author as in my opinion she is an author to watch out for even if I'm not totally convinced of this book.

First: hot firefighters. I could end this review right here. LOL! But there just so happens to be a really good book involving the sexy firefighters. The story starts with a bang as Chloe Addison, hopeful and excited about her career and a new development project, is caught in a deliberately set fire. Ryan Monroe, fireman and arson investigator-in-training, shows up at the scene and is part of the team investigating the fire. Almost immediately, his superior is suspicious of Chloe, and as events unfold and more fires to her ex-boyfriend's properties are set, she becomes suspect number one. Yet, the attraction between Chloe and Ryan is--forgive me--combustible. Yes, I went there. :-D Even though his becoming involved with Chloe is a serious conflict of interest, Ryan can't help the pull he feels toward the beautiful, vulnerable yet strong woman. Chloe has suffered horribly in her past, and the violations have been inflicted by people she trusted. Therefore, she finds it hard to trust Ryan. But that still doesn't keep her away from him. Their relationship unfolds in the midst of this arson investigation, as well as the danger closing in, threatening their romance and their lives.

BURN is a romantic suspense, and it was done perfectly. I swear, I didn't guess who was behind the arson until it was revealed. It took everything in me not to skip ahead to find out! I love a suspense that has twists and keeps me on edge until the end, and this certainly accomplished both. Also, I loved Chloe and Ryan separately and together. Ryan had a tragic past as well, but he didn't let it hinder him in loving Chloe and letting her know it. I loved the way he loved her. He was ready to give his life for her...literally. They didn't allow their pasts to steal away their futures, although there were times when it seemed the two of them weren't going to be able to overcome them. Chloe especially. I think this is what made her strong in my eyes. No, she wasn't kicking ass or stabbing people with her stiletto, but emotionally, mentally? She was a true heroine for enduring such betrayals and pain, and still emerging as a capable, independent, beautiful woman. Usually, either the hero or the heroine steals the show for me, but I can honestly say they both were wonderfully flawed characters that I fell in love with. BURN is a great read, and I can't wait to see whose up next in the series!

The conflict of interest is apparent from the start and it was what pulled me in at first: Ryan is part of the arson investigation and Chloe a person-of-interest, but that doesn’t stop him from seeking her out. The former is still hurting from his previous relationship and the latter is a timid, broken woman intimidated by her boss (who’s also an abusive ex-lover) but unable to get anywhere in the current situation though she seems in sore need of a fresh, new start.

I wasn’t entirely sure how things would go, but it felt as though you could see the train crash coming from a mile away, especially with a malicious ex-boss still to contend with and several potential suspects that should amp up the mystery and the action. The plot isn’t exactly heart-pounding, and ‘Burn’ reads more like a cross between slow burn drama (punt sort of intended) and some instances of suspense.

There’s some adage somewhere that claims love makes fools of us all. Not that I fully disagree, but this seemed particularly true of both Chloe and Ryan. The mutual attraction and the push-pull aside, there was a fair bit of struggle on my part to feel the connection between Ryan and Chloe, which fell flat as they put a foot in and then took it out—something that pretty much went on for nearly half the book. I couldn’t get emotionally invested in them when for a long while, all I could see was just skin-deep attraction, which wasn’t helped much by their reluctant dancing around each other as they couldn’t even decide whether they were going on a date or not.

Chloe comes from a history of childhood abuse and to some extent, her behaviour around men is understandably skittish and wary. But her passive-aggressive stance and inability to decide whether she wanted in or out—first she’s painfully shy with Ryan then accuses him of ulterior motives later—irked me somehow and made it difficult to sympathise with all that she was handling. The cynical part of me had little patience for Chloe's low self-esteem that had her questioning her own desirability and her constant trodden down state as though needing the affirmation that Ryan could give her, then doing a turnabout by acting solely to protect her own interests by pushing him away and deciding she was better off alone. The constant denial of how good they’d be together but couldn't, aided by the self-pity that was evident in Chloe and the indecision that plagued Ryan didn’t help contribute to the UST but simply drew out this stuttering relationship way longer than I’d hoped.

In this aspect, ‘Burn’ disappointed me, sad to say, but it’s also my preference for stronger, less naive heroines that’s showing up here. I liked that Chloe and Ryan were forced to face their own demons, but perhaps more for Ryan, who once again, needed to rush into a burning building with Chloe’s life at stake, while I would have loved to see some more spine in Chloe instead of the fear that always tended to overtake her when the going got tough. The story, even if it’s not quite for me, would definitely work for those who like the alpha protector-sort who will against all odds, overcome his fears to save his damsel in distress.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this novel and I really enjoyed it! Chloe and Ryan are both trying to recover from tragic events in their past. When Chloe becomes a person of interest in an arson investigation, Ryan risks his job as a firefighter to help her. The chemistry between them is off the charts from the get-go, despite a number of twists and turns that threaten to break them apart. I also really liked the mystery in this book, which kept me guessing right up to the very end. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author!

Well I never expected THAT!

First of all, you will NEVER guess who was causing the explosions. I was so surprised!

Nextly, this was a great read! Chloe was a little down on herself and lacking self-esteem, which is understandable given the horrendous past she had to endure. But, she tried her best to be strong and carry on.

Enter Ryan, someone with an equally tragic past, depending on your viewpoint, and his loyalty to Chloe, in spite of the allegations of arson looming over her, was very endearing.

The only only ONLY only only thing I had a bit of an issue with is that if Ryan is essentially helping with the arson investigation in which Chloe is a person of interest, it seems incredibly unrealistic that he would openly date her AND bring her to firehouse social functions AND have a boss that essentially turned a blind eye to their relationship instead of citing Ryan for some sort of ethics violation.

But, aside from that, I liked the suspense and the story, and I would love to read a story about a certain casual couple I met in this book!

I loved BURN! I couldn't help but sympathize with Chloe. The poor woman had some issues with her self-esteem after being in an abusive relationship, and she was inundated by allegations of arson. Yikes! She was in big trouble. But who better to help her out of it than a hot firefighter, right? And even though Ryan had his own tragic past to deal with, he was all the things a hot firefighting hero should be: heroic, protective, caring, loyal, and sexy as all get-out! And the mystery was titillating. I couldn't wait to find out who was causing all the explosions. Then I read a sex scene between Ryan and Chloe and figured it had to be them because daaaaamn... ;)

Burn by Dawn Altieri is a contemporary romance novel, a stand-alone.
Meet Chloe Addison, assistant project manager of a development company and Ryan Monroe, firefighter and - inspector.
Chloe is person of interest in a fire investigation, her boss is an ex and not so nice.
She meet Ryan and sparks fly. She has a major crush on him, but what´s with Ryan? What is his intention?
Secrets and lies threaten to destroy their relationship. Is their love strong enough?
I liked Burn. I liked how both characters fell for each other. They have their issues, but they are so in love. And I liked their beautiful HEA.

BURN is a solid and entertaining debut novel by Dawn Altieri. What can be better than starting off with a story featuring hot and sexy firefighters?
Chloe's life has been a roller coaster lately. She loves her career, but her boss is her ex boyfriend who hasn't made things easy for her. He is a total jerk. One night after a meeting, she is nearly injured in a fire at a new development that they have been working on. After dealing with the authorities, she and her roommate go out for a drink and catch the eye of a couple of guys who turn out to be firefighters. She and Ryan strike hot and sexy sparks off each other, unfortunately Ryan is aiming to join the arson squad and Chloe becomes a person of interest.
Both Chloe and Ryan have some baggage but they can't seem to stay out of each others orbit and they both are wary of sharing their trust. Chloe continues to work her job, but more evidence is pointing in her direction. The sexy Ryan proves to be her white knight more than once as Chloe searches for a way to prove her innocence.
The story is full of suspense leaving you guessing who is setting the fires. While I liked Chloe, sometimes I questioned her judgement. There are a few things about the story that were a little hard to believe, but I did find the story enjoyable and fast paced. I don't know if this is going to be part of a series, but I would definitely look forward to another story by Ms Altieri.

Absolutely loved this! Debut author, but you'd never know it! Well written, tightly-plotted, perfectly paced, delicious romance! Altieri keeps you guessing until the very end about who might 'have done it' and honestly, I was rooting for more than one 'villain' to get what was coming to them! I don't know fire-fighting but it certainly seems the author did her research (or knows her stuff). I've already followed this author on amazon and look forward to more in this series!

Ahh! Writing this review was so hard becase I feel so contradictive about this book.

The story-line development was interesting. There was a serious background story present with both leads for example. And there was an interesting 'present day' story-line with some mystery woven into it, that keeps you guessing on how the plot will turn out in the end and that made it a fast-paced read from beginning until end.

The firefighter-elements were a joy to read about. I love to read about groups of men, first responders or military man or such, whom have a real comradery-feel present in a group like this. So reading about Ryan and his firefighter team was a joy and I'm really excited to read a next book in this series (hopefully about Jeremey?!). The firefighters fit perfectly within this story

Character-talk
I feel contradictive about both main characters. On the one hand; I really fell in love with Ryan, our hot firefighter male lead, because he is so incredibly sweet and I love a man who has this hero-complex-thing going on. I loved how he stood up for Chloe and wanted to be her hero, in every way possible. But at the same time that was also what was bothering me a bit about his character. He was sometimes so blindsided by his intense feelings towards Chloe that he sometimes made quite stupid decisions to be honest regarding himself - he's one of those characters who FALLS headfirst into something without thinking about the consequences, at all. Normally it doesn't bother me as much, but seeing this particular situation with him and Chloe both keeping secrest from one another, it bothered me a bit I guess. But despite that, I couldn't stop swooning because like I said; I love guys with hero-complexes, lol. He's sweet. He's a friggin hot firefighter?! So yeah; the scale tipped toward 'love' instead of 'hate' regarding this character, even though I had some remarks haha.

Chloe, on the other hand, didn't do much for me unfortunately as a lead character. In the beginning I really came to like and care for her. But when the story progressed and the romance between Ryan and Chloe developed, I became quite irritated with her at times. She blaims him for having trust issues and not telling her all of his secrets, while she's doing the Exact Same thing to him, but that's totally acceptable of course?! That really ticked me off, lol. After that, I found it hard to see Chloe the way Ryan does and everyone else around them; this friggin perfect woman. And normally I love realistic characters, with flaws. But unfortunately, Chloe is that kind of character that became a bit annoying to me.

romance developing and writing
Aside from experiencing that frustration regarding Chloe, I did experience some enthusiastic feelings regarding their developing romance in general, because it was just really beautifully written I think. I liked the slow-burn romance present. Them experiencing this insane attraction towards each other but giving each other time as well to get acquainted with each other on a more emotional level before acting upon their physical attraction was a great way to write this romance I think.

And of course, my remarks on this book are my opinion so please don't let it hold you back picking up this book. When you love firefighter romances with a swirl of mystery and lovable writing, you should really give this book a try! I'm definitely curious about the next book in this series and to see how this author grows regarding her character developments in next books - GIVE ME THEM FIREFIGHTERS, WHOOPWHOOP!

Received in exchange for a honest review.

This was good. I liked how even when Ryan had reason to doubt Chloe he still looked inside himself and trusted his gut and believed she was innocent. Can’t always say that about Chloe. She was not always that way when it came to Ryan but she did have some bad relationships in the past to bring her dow the wrong path and have her wary.

The story has two characters that you fall in love with in Ryan and Chloe. Ryan is trying to go further in his career and become a arson investigator. He loves his job and has reasons for what he does. Ryan has been through alot and you just feel for him from the beginning. He never wavers though on his belief in Chloe and is there behind her supporting her no matter what. They begin with a fun flirtation and go into a situation where Chloe is in danger from there. We see attraction from the beginning but circumstances do put a hold on them doing anything at first. I love how Chloe was in danger but was always fighting. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time and her boss was a idiot. He wanted control and didn’t really have it with her.

The story is alluring and sexy with the romance between Ryan and Chloe. The trust and faith Ryan shows Chloe is really sensual and intimate. When the situation becomes more dangerous, Ryan is there for Chloe trying to protect her even if it costs him his job. You can see his love and respect for her.

A very alluring story where you get clues as to who is behind the framing of Chloe and putting her life in danger but don’t truly know until the very end and are surprised. You smile at Ryan and his loyalty and fall in love with him and Chloe’s tenaciousness as well. A good story from beginning to end.

I am in two minds as to where I can pitch this review, for two reasons
1. Because I don’t want to give any of the storyline away because it is the depth of the story that is its biggest asset
2. If I am being honest I would have to say that because I struggled somewhat with the characters.
I appreciated not only what they had been through but also continued to experience but I wasn’t entirely sure whether I liked either of them.
I wanted to and I didn’t hate them, they just seemed a little too farfetched if that is even possible for a work of fiction. I found too much to raise an eyebrow at with their relationship and that made me question it more than I would have liked.
I mean Ryan really had me shaking my head by the way he was so willing to accept on nothing other than face value that Chloe was innocent no matter how much it appeared otherwise. And the fact that as a person of interest in an ongoing arson investigation, she was welcomed as his girlfriend by his management despite the fact he was the person investigating the arson she was potentially involved in…well that niggled me.
The author played this mystery very close to her chest and I found it almost impossible to get a handle on just who was to blame and that in itself was the force driving me from page to page.
There was so much potential and there was an awful lot that was right with the story that I would say give it a try, the mystery will have you hooked.

Burn. Just what to say about this book. First, it is well written with a great storyline that is intriguing in it mystery surrounding an arson investigation. The little problem comes in with the storyline between the two lead characters Chloe and Ryan. It was a bit too much angst, too much "should I, could I". There were times it just worked on my last nerve, but I did understand both their sides, I just wish they could have come to some sort of decision a bit quicker.

The mystery of "who done-it" was well kept by the author which is mainly what kept me reading because, well I had to know who this person was! That was a great job...gold star for the author!!

The characters were well written and well defined although I would have liked for Chloe to be a bit more of a stronger woman. Knowing her past I can understand some of her weaknesses, but would have loved to have seen her grown from her past and stiffen her backbone a bit more. Yes she could still have some weaknesses regarding her past, but I still would have liked to have seen her stronger, somewhat, because of it. She was a bit to wishy-washy, in my opinion.

This book had the potential to be more than five stars, but the main characters gave it a hit down the ladder. 4.5 stars for me, however some may find the characters likeable and really enjoy them, the mystery is a given...it is outstanding! I say give it a try, for the mystery if for nothing else, because it was well done!

Chloe Addison is working hard at a promising career in real estate development, when an explosion destroys her first major project, leaving her the prime suspect in an arson investigation. Now her career is at big risk, not to mention her life in danger. Ryan Monroe is a firefighter that is trying to get a position on the arson team when he meets Chloe. Now he's convinced that getting close to her is the best way to solve his first investigation. What he doesn't count on is his attraction to her, as the more time he spends with her the line between professional, and personal, starts to become very blurry. I cannot believe this is Dawn Altieri's first book, as her talented writing style had me completely invested cover to cover, with heart racing. The twists alone were perfect, as many came out of left field, leaving me dropping loud f-bombs. Chloe and Ryan were great together, while their past baggage made for great angst levels. There were some very funny well placed humor moments that kept me laughing, and steamy sexy scene goodness that I couldn't get enough of. Cannot wait to see what this author does next, but in the meantime, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND Burn to ALL!

** I received a copy of this book in a giveaway for a fair and honest review**

I actually really enjoyed this book despite not being huge into romance novels. The story kept me entertained from the first page to the last, and I loved that a mystery was added into the romance. As to who was starting the fires, I pointed the finger at several different people multiple times throughout the story, and could NOT believe the ending. I seriously didn't see it coming!!

I really enjoyed Ryan's character development as he stayed consistent throughout the entire book. However, Chloe's character got under my skin because she went from one extreme to the next over and over. I wanted to punch her when she kept "leaving" Ryan as i was very fond of him!

Overall, this book was great for a light read and has made me interested in reading a few more romance novels. I noticed that the book is called "Romance in Ridgeport #1", so I hope there will be a second one coming! Thanks for selecting me in your giveaway!

Chloe is a real estate developer and although she loves her job her boss/ex-boyfriend is someone she could do without. When the latest project she is working on goes up in smoke due to arson she is considered a suspect.

Ryan is a firefighter who is training to be an investigator. Although the Chief believes that Chloe may be responsible Ryan isn’t so sure.

They meet again through friends and their attraction and connection is immediate. Ryan has a tragic past and hasn’t been interested in being involved in a relationship with a woman, but Chloe may just change his mind. Chloe has learnt from past experience that men are not to be trusted but she is beginning to wonder if Ryan may be different. To further complicate things who is setting the fires to ex-boyfriend’s buildings and why do they want Chloe blamed?

This is an enjoyable storyline full of suspense, romance and twists. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

This was my first book by this Author. It was a suspsenseful and mysterious read with a hint or romance or two. Who is Chloe Addison? Who is Ryan Monroe? What do each of them do for a living? What happens with Chloe's work that puts her in the crosshairs of an investigation? When her past comes out, thanks to Zack, what does Ryan think? What does he do? What does she tell him if anything? Who is Christopher? What about Lizzie and Blake? This is really a good read. You're going to have to read to find out what is going on with Chloe and when Christopher tries to say Ryan is helping her, what does that do to his career? Does anyone believe what is happening? Read and see!

A first book by this author that I would consider romantic suspense. A woman with an abusive past is a suspect in arson fires. One of the firefighters with a past of his own falls for her...

Overall I liked this book and I would have given it a higher score except that I didn't feel right about Chloe, I felt like she should have a bit more emotional baggage or something... I don't know what just that she should be more messed up like her roommate. Just my opinion. I think many people will like this book due to a whirlwind romance and twists.

An intense ride that provides drama, surprises, heartbreak, and heartwarming romance. That's a lot packed into one story, but I can honestly say...it was a fantastic book from beginning to end.

The author has done a remarkable job of creating such realistic imagery that you can feel yourself experiencing the action first hand. I've enjoyed her writing and hope to find more of her books in the future.

This is the first story I've read by Ms. Altieri and I have mixed feelings about this book. I just couldn't really connect to Chloe. Ryan is a sexy firefighter with a protective streak and he is much more of a relatable character for me. I especially had a hard time investing in them as a couple with all the secrets they keep from each other and only giving a little tidbits of their past to each other. Overall I give the suspense factor an A+. For the sake of not giving anything away I didn't expect who was starting the fires.

Disclaimer: While I just couldn't connect to the book it was well written and I look forward to future works by this author.

I'm 100% a Romantic Suspense junkie and BURN fed my addiction very nicely! Threaded within the growing romance between Chloe and Ryan, is a wonderfully twisty plot that leaves you guessing all the way to the end.

Burn is a good story. It has suspenseful, intrique, and it flowed at a good pace, I read it all at once. It will keep you guessing till the end. The characters Ryan and Chloe were likeable, and they both had troubled pasts. Good entertaining read!

Although I had never read this author before, I requested an ARC of this novel from Net Galley primarily because Entangled is one of my favorite publishers. I tend to greatly prefer their Ignite series over the Select Suspense, but the description for this story sounded interesting. Chloe and Ryan are the main couple. They meet because Ryan is training to be a fire investigator while currently working as a fire fighter. Chloe is a person of interest in a fire investigation. They kind of immediately click, and Ryan decides to pursue Chloe. This was probably not the best decision career wise, but oh well, it's fiction. There are several ups and downs in their relationship, and Chloe can sometimes give off mixed signals, but it did hold my interest, and the villain revealed at the end was not anyone I suspected. Since I like a good surprise ending, I was pretty happy. Overall, it had a good bit of suspense, a little action, a lot of relationship drama, and plenty of chemistry.

3 Stars.....Ryan and Chloe........frustrated me. Well, mostly Chloe. Yes, both had some issues due to past relationships, but come on make up your mind. The back and forth was killing me.

Unfortunately for me, I wasn't invested in them as a couple and I did not feel the heat between them. As far as the mystery goes, it was kind of easy to guess who the culprit was. However, I did like Ryan, he was protective and sweet.

Even though this book didn't work for me, it would work for the reader looking for a quick read with a hot fireman and a little mystery.

As soon as I saw the cover to Burn, I knew I wanted to read it. It's so provocative. And the book itself is a joy to read!
First off, the characters Chloe and Ryan have so much chemistry it's a wonder they don't set the pages aflame.

Chloe is a small town girl with a big secret. She's trying to escape her past. Instead, once she meets fireman Ryan, she is forced to confront it.
Ryan is the epitome of how I see real-life firemen: heroes. He's brave, kind, selfless, and hot. But Ryan has a past he'd rather not remember. too.
Someone is blowing up buildings on town, and Chloe is always in the vicinity when they explode. Is she the arsonist, or a victim? Ryan needs to know, because he's falling for her in a big way.

I enjoyed the push and pull of Chloe and Ryan's attraction. It gave the story its needed conflict. I loved how realistic both characters appeared. They had flaws that were believable. The mystery of who was the arsonist remained a mystery until the very end, which is always a good thing.

There was enough action to continue drawing the reader in, and the sex scenes were PG-13, which is a plus to me. I don't need all the scientific names for body parts spelled out like a biology class.

Ms. Altieri knew her firehouse/firemen scenario. She did her homework, making the narrative realistic, yet not so technical that you feared for a test at the end. A perfect combination!

I highly recommend Burn to readers, because it has a suspenseful plot, attractive, human characters, and the writing style pulls you through the story at a pace that doesn't leave you out of breath, or snoring.

All in all, I look forward to more from Dawn Altieri, and you should, too.

Chloe is an up and coming real estate developer, escaping a troubled past. Ryan is a firefighter (and who doesn't love firefighters!) trying to leave the ghosts of his past mistakes behind. Can either of them learn to trust again?

The conflicts and the suspense were well done, the characters believable. Ms. Altieri gave us several red herrings as we had to guess "whodunit" and brought everything to a satisfying conclusion. Well done!

I'd issue a warning to those people who might be offended by profanity - I think the use of it was realistic given the characters' occupations, but there will be some readers who might be put off by it.
