This is seriously so weird but I freaking love it! I'm wondering if Gwen is some sort of masochist because nobody can just see all that crazy gore and be completely fine with it...

I believe that we are all impacted by those around us and the interactions we have. Edwyn is a simple man that only wants to enjoy his time with his girl, Virginia. When he needs help getting her back he allows Gwen to tag along and get her own revenge. In the end, everyone changes and is shaped by this encounter.
