Sri M was born in Trivandrum, Kerala. At the age of nineteen and a half, attracted by a strange and irresistible urge to go to the Himalayas, he left home. At the Vyasa Cave, beyond the Himalayan shrine of Badrinath, he met his Master and lived with him for three and a half years, wandering freely, the length and breadth of the snow clad Himalayan region. What he learnt from his Master Maheshwarnath Babaji, transformed his consciousness totally. Back in the plains, he, as instructed by his Master, lived a normal life, working for a living, fulfilling his social commitments and at the same time preparing himself to teach all that he had learnt and experienced. At a signal from his Master he entered the teaching phase of his life. Today, he travels all over the world to share his experiences and knowledge. Equally at home in the religious teachings of most major religions, Sri M, born as Mumtaz Ali Khan, says “Go to the core. Theories are of no use.” Sri M is married and has two children. During 2015-16 Sri M undertook the Walk of Hope, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir for 15 months covering a distance of 7500 kms, spreading the message of peace and harmony to restore the nation fit enough to be bequeathed to the future generations. He leads a simple life – teaching and heading the Satsang Foundation, a charitable concern promoting excellence in education. At present he lives in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, three hours drive from Bangalore.
Sri M (born Mumtaz Ali Khan), who was born a Muslim, was attracted to Vedic teachings at an early age. He met his Guru at the age of 9 and left home at 19 to live in the Himalayas, where he met many saints and sages before living with his Guru for three years. M has been associated with the famous Rishi Valley School as a former trustee of the Krishnamurti Foundation. Rather than choosing any specific religion or tradition, M teaches the universal essence of all religions.
M is founder of the Satsang Foundation. When asked about the Foundation and its purposes, he responded, “Satsang, which in Sanskrit, translates to holy company. Satsang is important because it is in keeping holy company that we overcome all circumstances and distractions, attain our true purpose of life, and uplift the world. By keeping holy company, not only with saints and sages and with other sincere spiritual seekers, but most importantly and with our True Self, our own Soul, we achieve deeper access and ultimate union with the Divine Essence. That is the goal of all prayer, meditation and spiritual practice, as well as all religions.”
He is a spiritual teacher and Guru to many and he teaches Kriya Yoga, the Upanishads and Sri Vidya Upasana. He lives in Madnapalle, Andhra Pradesh (near Bangalore) and travels around India and the World teaching and taking students on regular Yatras to sacred places.
Autobiography of a living yogi - It's not a type of book I usually read. However, when my friend recommended it in earnestly after telling me a story of her strange experience and how she related to this book so well, my curiosity won over and I decided to give it a try.
Sri M, the author born as Mumtaz Ali Khan in Kerala who took up the spiritual path and became the disciple of Sri Maheshwarnath Babaji; publishes this as his 4th book and a sequel to 'Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master'.
The book has been presented across 24 chapters which the author confirms that are not at all chronological, which gives the audience an option to pick and choose chapters to read. I must confess though that after years of conditioning, I still read the book chronologically, but across many days (I read the first 9-10 chapters in one day and took almost a day each for rest of the chapters). It doesn't mean that the further chapters were uninteresting; quite the opposite.
Written using simple words and detailed references to location and timelines, the book starts with a simple story which a guru may tell his disciple to convey a hidden message to facilitate easy recall. The initial chapters are all incidents from author's life which happen right from his childhood till his youth, which communicate the importance of Guru and why everything happens for a reason. For a reader, it could be also a test to assess his or her mind's capability to observe and trust, instead of doubt and disbelieve.
The easy writing in initial chapters prepares the reader for the detailed philosophical discussions between the disciple and his guru; where deep universal and spiritual questions are explained using examples and analogies. Topics range from - Is knowledge the basis for liberation? What's the limit of intellect? Why do some sages prefer to remain silent after realizing the ultimate truth? Why doesn't general public understand the existence of higher dimensions? Why is it said that the world is an illusion? What are the different states of consciousness? Why to activate cosmic energy within us through yoga? What's the importance of 'Faith'? Yoga's history and the qualities of a yogi
In the chapters between and after the above discussions, Sri M takes us on a ride through his past lives especially focusing on events where different gurus guided him / her towards the next life. There are written in heartfelt words allowing the reader to feel the joy, sorrow, dilemma and awe of the characters.
It's not a book for everyone, but easily readable by all. It may even prompt some to hunt for the prequel as well. However one may judge the book and its contents, the one thing which shines through is the author's honesty which in turn, makes the most cynical reader trust the writing.
A beautiful Classical-Yogic way of connecting the Divine Dots, earnestly seeking Oneness among the divided Minds by pure wisdom of experiences....Shiva, Rama, Krishna, Budha, Jesus, Mohammed, Maharshis, Sai Nath and several Great Souls till Maheswarnath Babaji are divinely dancing in this book.....Sri M (Babaji) has weaved a wonder carpet for all those who explore in the spiritual path to sit on and meditate, by interlacing the threads of various complex believe systems to One colour of "humanity". One can be a Hindu or Muslim or Christian or an Athiest and so on but real focus is to understand own limits and how to progress in the spiritual path. So those who understand the embeded quality of MIND of devotion and division that put us in a cage of 'some' group, shall certainly find ways to liberate the Self from the slavery of mind. So this book is shining like stars illuminating our souls!!
Sri M was born Mumtaz Ali Khan in Trivandrum, Kerala. At the age of 8, a strange man appeared in his backyard and asked him if he remembered anything. He didn't. Drawn to yoga and sanskrit early on, his life took interesting route as he met various mystics during his growing years.
Compelled by an irresistible urge to go to the Himalayas, he left home at the age of 19. After lot of pain and suffering when he was at the end of his rope and was contemplating suicide, his Guru, Babaji Maheshwarnath, appeared before him. Thus began Mumtaz Ali Khan's journey to becoming Madhukarnath, who today is with love and devotion called Sri M.
M sir's life is nothing short of miraculous. His autobiography is mind blowing because it takes us on a journey that cannot be comprehended or understood with the limitations of our simple five senses.
What drew me to him was his simplicity. In his interviews, he is humble, straight forward and compassionate. Often called the Yogi in jeans, he lives a simple life devoid of any paraphernalia associated with yogis. To his book, I will be eternally grateful for teaching me the difference between Hinduism as a Dharma and Hinduism as a religion. It helped open several blocks in my mind associated with Hindusim.
For an earnest , open minded seeker, this book would be a wonderful reading experience.
A sequel to an already amazing journey, this book through Sri M’s personal experiences touches every aspirants heart. A must read for every spiritual seeker, interested in the ancient Himalayan mysticism.
This sequel by Sri M to his first book "Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master" is astonishing and will perhaps have the reader first question the credibility of the details. But as we dwell into the deeper meaning of the details, it is evident that human beings have explored just a minuscule of their so called consciousness. Science has perhaps just touched the threshold of the vast reach & expanse of the human brain and its abilities. Man's quest for power, unfortunately driven by greed, lust etc. comes crashing when one knows the cause and effect or the law of karma. The book gives glimpses of what is the true meaning of a human birth and what should one's quest be. The book is definitely a "must read" for those interested in neurosciences, rebirth, spirituality, yoga and such subjects.
Whoever comes on this planet, comes for a purpose irrespective of the family background, religion that one's family pursues or one's economic background. Shri M's compilation of his discussions with Shri Babaji gives a very deep insight into the cultural heritage and belief in "Oneness" of this great country. While vested interests at times do try to sabotage the peace and tranquility of the society, those involved in such activities which are detrimental to the spirit of humanity also have to pay a price in the form of Karmas. I wish, hope and pray that many more such writings flow from Shri M.
Gratitude. Compassion. Kindness. These are the qualities one sees in a person who has attained spiritual enlightenment and touched the divine. And these are the qualities that shine throughout Sri M's The Journey Continues, the sequel to his autobiography Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master.
I have been meticulously following Sri M for quite some time now. My day begins with reading his daily quote on Instagram and listening to his videos on YouTube while doing pranayama. He is a gentle soul, dedicated to guide those who are genuine in their search for the truth. And this book reflects that.
When I completed his autobiography, i was eager to know more about his journey with Babaji and wished Sri M had delved deeper into the conversations they had on spiritual and vedantic topics. Fortunately for me, this sequel satisfied my wish. The book contains specific incidents and experiences of Sri M, each segregated into a separate chapter. The chapters related to his lengthy discourse with Babaji shed light on many deeper aspects of spirituality such as the significance or rather the insignificance of jnana, the limitations of our logic and reasoning and the instability of the foundations of our perception of physical matter. Anyone who has followed Sri M's talks will know that he generally uses stories and anecdotes to convey important learnings and teachings of spirituality. This must surely be a trait he picked from his beloved Babaji for he too demystifies complicated matters with the help of simple stories. Babaji's clear and concise interpretation of the shanti mantra, the different states of consciousness and the facets of tantra provided me much-needed insights into these topics and clarified some of the questions I had.
Apart from Babaji, Sri M elucidates his meetings with other enlightened souls, from Swami Satchidananda and Sri Ramakrishna to Buddha and Shri Krishna. He takes us on his journey to the distant past where he died in the battlefield of Kurukshetra to a time where he was born as a begum in the 18th century and a time where he attended Buddha's very first sermon at Sarnath.
Many of Sri M's experiences and encounters with great men bend and break the rules of science, as we know it. Keeping an open mind to the immense possibilities of our world and beyond and having faith in the ancient wisdom passed down through sages are key to walking on the path to realization. I found great joy in reading this book, just as I had while reading its prequel.
Though Sri M's simple language makes this book easy to read by anyone, I would recommend this book to those who are walking towards the truth with faith and conviction.
This book is a sequel to Sri M’s much appreciated and loved book “Apprenticed to Himalayan Master”. Like the previous book, this is a collection of Sri M’s spiritual journey, his interactions with Babaji laden with multiple spiritual discourses, his journey across the world and more importantly, his recollections of his previous births. For readers, this book could come across multiple hues based on their perspectives.
Human mind’s perception is shaped by its experiences and sensory perception. However, what remains unknown beyond the realms of human understanding is usually termed as extra-terrestrial or too fantastic to be true. Bharatha has a rich heritage of Rsis, Munis, Yogis who have explored and explained these dimensions typically unknown to the mankind. In this book, one would come across many such instances which would appear outlandish to the human thought, but could be a reality in the dominions of the unknown.
Though there are many chapters of interest, I would particularly like to highlight the chapter on Guruvayoorappan with references to Narayaneeyam and Jnanappana. The experience of Swami Satchidananda of Kanhangad is another experience of interest. There are some profound quotes stemming from the conversations of the author with Babaji. Quoting one such interesting one, “World is real only in relative sense, but it can’t be real in absolute sense”. The explanation of this concept through Colours, Shape, Mass is very education and informative.
For me, the highlight of the book is the portion on the explanation of the Upanishadic shanti mantra पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदं . This is one definite must read portion of the book. In the last chapter of the book, there are some additional books referred for reading only with a caution included that any practice should be performed under strict supervision of a guru. There are some speeches of Sri M included as an epilogue to the book which make for equally invigorating reading.
While the vedantic and spiritual concepts will pique the interest of many, some of the previous life experiences may not appeal to all. However, as the age old wisdom says, one needs to let go and be ready to accept the unthinkable, unacceptable for the reality may be quite different than what we think.
I would definitely recommend this book to everyone, specially to those who would like delve deeper into spirituality and mysticism and learn a little more about our Himalayan masters.
The journey continues is a sequel to Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master by the author Sri M. A journey to unite with eternal is described in this book, although I am bit disappointed compared to his previous book, where there was vast knowledge about metaphysics, previous birth etc. In this book his self appreciation is done by the author. Although I still appreciate this work, but the first one is far better. I am not that much into spirituality and don’t know how to meditate or go through previous birth etc, but sorry to say sometimes it seems like I am reading any script for the movie where repetition of babaji and projecting him as a supernatural hero is somewhat undigested.
But after completing both the books I came to conclusion that one should meditate to know the purpose of his life, why he/she came to this planet earth and what is motto of his life. I am very glad that the author is very fortunate to have such guru in his life and through him we got to know about the power of cosmos, meditation and spirituality.
Those who have read the first book must continue with this book, also I recommend this book to those who want to achieve higher spiritual path and curious mind. For this book a big no to the fresher’s and average thinkers.

"Imagination is not the sign of a diseased mind On the contrary it is the sign of a healthy and rich mind. Only when it is not control or is allowed to run a riot does it become harmful. Controlled and deliberate imagination is in fact the sign of a genius."
The best book read in recent time related to spirituality. Really enjoyed both the part, was able to connect few dots in my life. Definitely worth reading, the ultimate message that I take from the book is 'spirituality is something beyond any religion'.
"Bear in mind friends that that the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction and some yogis have even called the solid world we swear by an illusion, a construct of the mind"
"Concentration is not tension. On the contrary, it is possible only when the mind is relaxed but attentive."
"Let me warn you read but do not practice without guidance from a personal instructor for we are dealing with exact and precise techniques and one cannot afford wrong practice which may bring about negative effects"
This book did not come up to my expectations. Most of the chapters on the past lives of Sri M were like dreams and exceedingly difficult to accept for normal mortals with hardly any spiritual experience. One has to take them on faith. Having said that the book should be read after reading the apprenticed to a himalayan master to get the full impact. The conversations with His master, Babaji are very lucid and simple explanation of vedanta and easily understandable. The book makes out of body experience as very simple and trivial to experience but in reality it needs years of practice and meditation to reach that level. So in a way I felt by oversimplification, the book, probably is going to be a disappointment to many, when they cant achieve any spiritual or paranormal experience. Any way the language is very conversational and simple. Dont know if it can help beginers in spiritual path much.
I have great respect and love for SriMs work and have been following him very honestly for the last couple of years. But this book was a huge let down.
I remember reading the first part a few years back and how deeply it had inspired me. I was so desperately hoping to be inspired again but that didn't happen.
The book lacks depth. There are so many stories which are so conveniently placed that you can never question their credibility. It has such black and white characters and it never feels like he's describing real events. In fact it never felt the same person had written both these books. It seemed liked those cliche spiritual books like that of Robin Sharma which are so shallow in content. It makes me wonder if the book was written targeting a wider audience rather than the genuine seeker.
I was expecting too much from this book as i had read the prequel “apprentice to himalyan master”. I Loved that book to an extent that I researched so much about Sri M and his guru. This book on the contrary disappointed me as it contained just bits of his interaction with some masters and some of his dreams. I am not a non- believer but i was expecting more detailed information like in his first book. The chapters and moments written in this book were so brief that I couldn’t hold my interest till the end. It’s like random pieces of information which you can probably read any chapter at any time. I wanted to read more about Nityananda baba from Ganeshpuri or Neem karoli baba or swami sivananda but it was just too too brief. There wasn’t anything much to learn about kriya yoga or the experiences of kriya yoga .
"The Journey Continues" comprises a collection of short stories drawn from the life experiences of Sri M. It is recommended for those who have already delved into "Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master" as it enhances the depth of understanding in this book.
Since discovering Sri M, I have developed an enduring affection for his literary works. "The Journey Continues" follows the same pattern as his previous writings with its concise, standalone chapters. (Note that some chapters may be interrelated, as indicated by their titles.)
Among the standout chapters, two particularly noteworthy ones are those in which Sri M explores the themes of Krishna and the transition from the physical body. This book offers valuable insights and can be a source of multifaceted assistance, surpassing many self-help resources in its depth and wisdom.
This book by Sri M is continuation to his earlier book "Apprentice to Himalayan Master" and is fairly easy to read book and is full of stories. Every chapter of this book, does touch upon some aspect of his yogic journey. In essence this book, does cover lot of known spiritual yogis of India, even who are prior to author birth. Apart from stories, there are few chapters which were though provoking especially around Tantra, Mind & Matter and yoga, which did provide some tips as well. Sri M does very convincingly talks about his memoir of previous births and does cover lot of spiritual teachers and his interactions with them. All in all a good by Sri M touching various aspects of spiritual concepts and sharing stories from his journey.
Shri M continues to fascinate us with more recounts with his guru Shri Maheshwarnath Babaji and goes into an interesting chapter about about the workings of the brain and the mind where he narrates it through interactions which he had with his guru. One of the best chapters in the book.
Shri M is a revelation, a true seeker and a person who seems to be very transparent yet a sense of enigma revolves around him. Its a wonderful read for people who are spiritually inclined and an even better read for seekers who have realised that there are forces which exist in nature which is beyond our understanding.
Sri M spent just 3.5 years in Himalaya as an seeker. It is not enough time in which one can attain that much high spiritual level. He also included alien angle. Why should those spirituality advanced aliens would travel and die like this when Sri M can travel using teleportation? Sri M also see the aliens stuff like magnetic tapes and mummies in caves near Kailash parvat. If it is not enough, read first part in which Sri M joined party along with Shiva, Jesu and Ajmer khwaja! What business these abrahamic majahabs do with spirituality? Though book in entertaining.
Extras of leftovers but important Spiritual knowledge
This is the second book from the first of Sri M book. Talks of his master giving insight into fascinating knowledge of the divine and spiritual path. Very interesting and worth reading to know more about Sri M’s amazing guru and other things that occurred with Sri M that weren’t mentioned in the first book. Its like leftover information that didn’t make the first book, but nothing of little value whatsoever for this is very interesting talks between other spiritual people.
A terrific sequel to Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master. The chapter on Sri Ramakrishna was especially touching. Likewise the chapter on out of body travel, though I don’t wholly comprehend on how it is beneficial to the seeker.
The book feels lovely to feel and hold and I also liked the choice of font.
There’s no mention of the great Jnanavatar Swami Sri Yukteshwar Giri in either of the books. Would be keen to know Sri M ji’s thoughts on the great Kriya Master.
This book talk about the essence of all religion only if you are able to grasp it. There are things beyond our sensory organs can understand, but with proper understanding of this human body from gross to subtle layers, you would be able to understand everything outside. Your true nature and purpose. This book gave the glimpse of that long arduous journey to the TRUTH. Thank you Shri M for sharing this journey with us.
Blessed we are to read about the journey of a yogi like Sri M. Thank you Sir for sharing your experiences and iota of your knowledge through this book. This book sure has points that we can adapt in our life to not only move ahead spiritually but also to be a better human being. Thank you for writing this book.
I found this book as fascinating and heartwarming as the Himalayan heights. Just reading it will shift your consciousness into a more open state. There is also a lot of suspense within all these mysterious and esoteric experiences. I felt fortunate and honored to be given such a window into Sri M's journey. Profoundly captivating!
I read this book immediately after I read the first part and I enjoyed it. His usage of simple English made the concepts of out-of-body travel easier to grasp. The question and answer session was a refreshing change from his storytelling style in his previous book. The stories he shared was inspiring. It opened up a world of possibilities and a world full of limitations. A good read!
The book is in very simple easy to understand language just like the author Sri M. This book”happened” to me.. I believe that when one starts reading books on spiritual path the books would start revealing one after the other. One can start off with this book and proceed to Sadhgurus books and then Autobiography of a yogi.
If you are reading a book and can't put it down for it's so mesmerizing it deserves a 5star rating. 2) I would recommend this book to anyone who is on the spiritual path you will love it to it's core. This book by far is the most interested book I've ever read, writing was superb, thank you Sri M for writing this book it's given me hope 😊 Namaste 🙏
Unbelievable in many places still the conversations between the master and the apprentice are worth a read. I could relate a lot of material of Kriya Yoga from various sources that I have read or know to the conversations he had with his guru. A fitting second book to a truly amazing first story.
