Francine Paula Pascal was an American author best known for her Sweet Valley series of young adult novels. Sweet Valley High, the backbone of the collection, was made into a television series, which led to several spin-offs, including The Unicorn Club and Sweet Valley University. Although most of these books were published in the 1980s and 1990s, they remained so popular that several titles were re-released decades later.

Since I've been enjoying YA books I decided to go back to ones from my own youth. Maybe big mistake. It's not what I remember. I read all of the Sweet Valley books. I remember adoring and looking up to the twins. They were a crime busting duo! The original Veronica Mars. But this particular book was not what I remember of the twins. I hated both of them. One a bitch and the other a super serious bum just as into herself as her twin but in a different way. Like I get it Elizabeth you're in love w/ 2 guys an don't know who to choose. It's the only thing she thinks about the entire book. Like one of her best friends tries to tell her that she scored a super model as her date to the prom and Elizabeth has no reaction. She's in the world of her 2 guys. No matter how upset I am about my love life if my BFF told me that I'd snap the F out. I found them both insufferable. Which made me sad and think I probs shouldn't have reread it. I found one of my Sweet Valley University books and it's back to crime solving..so hopefully it's more what I remember. This was just because it was focused on their prom. Hopes~

Partly humorous - Lila and Jess make a list of the good and bad points of all the single boys at SVH which, unsurprisingly, doesn't go down too well when they find out!
Mostly boring - Liz is mind numbingly dull, she's in love with both Todd and Devon and gets jealous and hurt when Todd decides to date Courtney Kane again in a bid to make her jealous, she's moping around waiting for one or both of them to ask her to The Prom - oh please, just ask one of them yourself girl.
Enid doesn't come across as being very nice in this one with the way she views Tad Johnson.
Now I remember why I abandoned this book part way through when I read it a few years ago!!!

Nearing the end of the series, and man is it clear that the newer books were written in the hopes that the books could inspire tv episodes, and frankly, they kind of suck, with new characters nobody cares about and plot points that seem recycled and stale. The Wakefields and their besties don't have prom dates, except for Enid, who is being pursued by new character that no one cares about who is charmingly (definitely not) nicknamed Blubber, who she doesn't like, because of said... blubbering. It's bad. I'm glad they're almost done.
