Out of all the marriages I know, a depressing number of them broke up over the man cheating on his middle-aged wife (my parents included). However, my dad at least never tried to screw my mom out of whatever she was due after the divorce, which is exactly what happens to middle-aged Beth, whose checks bounce because her cheating, sleazy weasel of a husband cheated her in every possible way. Including trashing her to her own kids, so that Beth's daughter refuses to take her mother in, and is content to leave her in a roach-infested motel.

And then Beth runs out of money. She's going to a really dark place when Delilah comes recruiting from the "regional office"--offering thirty pieces of silver (actual silver, some of it ancient coins worth thousands) if she will tempt men three times a month. Hell, it seems, is having bureaucracy troubles, recruitment troubles and all the other troubles of modern times. Beth, meanwhile, would get a brand new body, a place to live, and expenses.

She tiptoes into the deal, still an emotional wreck, meets her new roommates . . . and in an early outing in her fine new body (the girls have to eat three thousand calories plus a day in order to keep slim) she sees her ex, who doesn't recognize her--and who tries to pick her up, though the new girlfriend is right there!

At that, Beth gets angry, and wants revenge.

The story takes off from there. It's no copy of First Wives Club or 9-to-5--the satire is there, the banter, and the magic, but what the story is really about is insight. Beth needs to do some emotional healing, and growing up, before the crazy, pulse-pounding end.

This resolves, though it's part of a series, each succeeding volume concerning one of the roommates. Each of their stories is very different--and I have my theory about who Delilah really is.

It's not quite romance, has too much emotional insight to be pure satire, so I'd say it's fantasy with an exhilarating dose of wish-fulfillment, making a fun, fast read. As for the real life parallels, I have a list of people I want to gift with this book.

I read it in draft three times, enjoying it more each time.

I gave this a shot, if only for the interesting premise: a woman done wrong finds a supernatural way to get some of her own back. And it was interesting . . . for a while. Unfortunately, Beth is driven almost entirely by self-hate and she lets that screw her up over. and over. and over, again. Which got tiresome enough that I gave up at about 75% in. The thing is, her fellow demons would have these interesting pep-talks and it'd look like Beth was paying attention and everything. Only then she'd revert right back to the self-hatred and stupidity that hadn't worked even before she turned all supernaturally pretty. And it turns out I have a hard time relating to (or sympathizing with) someone too learning impaired to digest a message after it's conveyed (in slightly different, but compelling ways) the dozenth time and counting.

So an interesting premise that kept putting me off with a one-note fail-fest that just got old.

Very few books make me actually laugh out loud. Even fewer make me laugh out loud so hard tears run down my face and I can't breathe. Jennifer Stevenson has accomplished both of those things with this book. This is a fun, sexy story about a woman who got the chance of a redo. She gets to be younger and thinner, while the rest of the world stays the same. She even gets paid! Who wouldn't want this?
I'm not exactly sure what genre I would place this in because it seems to blend so many different genres together perfectly. It is sexy, without being too graphic; humorous, without being silly; romantic, without being too mushy. The plot is very well developed and it flows at a good pace. The characters are realistic and it is easy to become invested in what happens to them. This is a wonderful story and I look forward to reading about the rest of the Coed Demon Sluts.

I absolutely loved this book and I just couldn’t put it down until it was finished. This is the first book to the series and the first one I’ve read from Jennifer Stevenson and now I’m a fan for life. It’s about a woman named Beth who gets screwed over by her husband in her life and the divorce, her daughter doesn’t believe a word she’s saying and Beth feels old and alone. Beth meets a succubi and she is granted a whole new look and body. Beth is after revenge against her ex husband and this story is about her adventures along the way. This book makes u want to shout out come on Beth just do it and makes u want to fight in her corner. Guaranteed to make u laugh and want to fight for the Under dog. I highly recommend this book and it’s well worth the read.

This was a fun, entertaining read.

To set the scene - Heaven ("The Home Office") disapproves of sex, so Hell ("The Regional Office") encourages sex, just to annoy The Home office. The Regional Office sends out recruiters to find likely candidates to become succubi, in order to tempt men into having sex or just inappropriate thoughts.

Beth Saunders is a 50ish housewife whose world has crumbled around her. Her husband has divorced her and is marrying a 19 year old, the check her ex-husband gave her as part of the divorce settlement bounced, her ex-husband claims he has no money. Beth is unable to find work, and since neither of her grown children will help her out, she is homeless. None of her so-called friends from the socialite world she had inhabited before the divorce want anything to do with her either. In a moment of drunken rage she meets a recruiter from The Regional Office and signs on to become a succubus. The benefits are good - she can choose what she looks like and change it to suit her will. She will be eternally young, and have all the money she needs. She can also eat and drink as much as she likes and still stay thin. The only thing she has two do is meet the monthly quota for sex or other acts of temptation. When she sobers up (looking like a hot 22-year old version of herself), she has to deal with the consequences of her drunken action, and that is where this book takes off. She joins a team of other succubi and starts getting training on what her new life now means. In the meantime, Beth Saunders is reported missing, and then possibly murdered, and Beth ends up embroiled in her own murder mystery. And there is also that thing about getting revenge on her ex-husband....

The book is told from two points of view, Beth and Pog (the team lead of the team of succubi), so you get the perspective of the bewildered newbie trying to adjust to the new situation and the long time professional trying to train a new recruit.

I found this book highly entertaining, and it is interesting to see the transformation in Beth as she deals with her past and present, and also her effect on the other succubi as they cope with explaining their way of life to someone new to the game (and recently mortal).

The tale is told

Loved!!

I loved reading this book. I laughed so hard. It was pure reading pleasure. I was captivated from the first page until the last.

Beth Saunders', 50, husband, Blake, left her for the young babysitter who used to sit for her OWN child when THEY were young. Now they are all grow up. One has their own family, the other his own business. The biggest problem is that Blake cheated Beth out of her settlement money from the divorce, her check bounced. For many, many years he had her convinced that he had fallen on hard times, and she foolishly believed him. He managed to convince his 2 kids to believe him over their own Mother. Telling them that he did INDEED pay her. So when Beth asked her daughter to stay with her after being thrown out of her own home, her daughter said NO. Beth moved into a cockroach infested motel. Convinced that the world would be better off without her in it, she goes to a cheap bar and plans to get drunk and then stand in the street to get hit by a bus. Thankfully at the bar she meets Delilah, a recruiter sex demon who works for Hell.

In exchange for room, board, all expenses paid, and the body of your dreams..(you can design it as many times as you want to). In exchange, you can 30 pieces of rare silver a month worth a min of $16,000-60,000 a piece. Plus bonuses. She has 4 roommates, including a house-boy.

Beth transforms herself 30 pounds skinner and, 30 years younger. She looks amazing. When she is picked up in a bar/restaurant by her drunk ex-husband who doesn't recognize her she's elated. When he stats spilling his guts out about his recent divorce and how he scammed his ex-wife, the only thing Beth is interested in is REVENGE on him. The 4 roommates work ruthlessly on accomplishing that goal.

A must read!!

I really enjoyed this book. It's serious and funny at the same time. The theme is that there is a group working for Hell. The women are termed sluts. They use their physical beauty to have sex with numerous men but they also have each other's back and when a new woman, Beth, joins the group they try to help her.

Beth's husband is a total low-life, leaving her for another woman (after screwing others), cheating her out of her settlement, passing himself off as broke when he's anything but and so on. It takes Beth a good while to stop blaming herself and to stop thinking the girls she are with are not good people at all.

They help her try to adjust to her new life and to finding a way to achieve closure with her old life but she has such a negative view of herself that it becomes hard for them to get through to her.

This is not an X-rated book, by the way. There is sex but it's of the type where someone says they had sex with such-and-such a guy and then they get to the serious things like redecorating the place they are living and, especially, what they are going to eat. (These women eat a tremendous amount and the reason is another of the many funny things in the book.)

It's also a very, very strong message about so many women being mistreated by their husbands in real life and the suffering they have to go through if they are lucky enough to get a divorce.

I did enjoy this, rather to my own surprise. The author is a friend of a friend of a friend or thereabouts and I thought (dubiously) I'd be supportive. But . . . first, why coed? Am I missing something? That sounds like college, and these babes are all out, ahem, working. I *loved* the set up--the standard Christian drill is *so* bad about sex, just as several characters remind us--and there is lots of riffing fun to be had. *Loved* that the fancy, gorgeous demon bodies have to eat like crazy, the more calories the better--and perhaps I should say I am both skinny and a Christian--although I felt there was a trick missed. I would have liked one of them to be the super-voluptuous, thunder thighs and magnificent behind as well as boobs to here, style instead of all the super thin standard fashion model type. Maybe this will change later in the series. And I agree with the other reviewers who say that Beth is a total pain in the arse. The way she keeps boomeranging back to self-hating misery was infuriating. But there still is a lot to enjoy here. I usually can't stop reading fast enough when books go on and on about food and fashion but here it is part of the guilty pleasure.

"Beth", first in the 'Coed Demon Sluts' series is a bit of a mess, mixing feminism, psychobabble and empowerment into a somewhat confusing concoction.
It's also a decent enough read.
The Beth of the title is a recently divorced woman who has lost everything, including her belief in herself. When suicide fails she signs up as a succubus (a sub-contractor for Hell (aka The Regional Office).
All she needs to do for her monthly payment of 30 pieces of silver (sometimes old silver coins that are worth a lot) is to sexually arouse three men, and she doesn't even have to hand over her soul.
But, even with a new body (and the ability to change it at will) she's still the old Beth at heart and finds it difficult to adapt to her new life.
Her fellow succubi Pog, Jee and Amanda, do their best to help but, ultimately, it is up to Beth herself to figure out who she really is.
The title of the series isn't really indicative of the content which while referencing a lot of sex doesn't actually go into detail. Sex, it's what succubi do, then they get back to normal things, like cooking, shopping, painting and cleaning.
I didn't like Jee's backstory - forced into prostitution as a child - as the general tone of the novel is light.
3.5 Stars, reduced to 3 Stars.

When I saw the title of this book I had only one question: Is it funny-terrible, or just plain terrible? It was free, so I decided to find out. Surprisingly, it's actually kind of good? I can't imagine who this title is intended to appeal to, but I guess it sort of worked on me? Except that I wouldn't have given it a second look if it cost any money at all.

Actually, the entire book has that problem, really. I'm not sure who it's supposed to appeal to. I certainly can't think of anyone I'd recommend it to. I think its main strength lies in the contrast between the title and the content. After setting your expectations incredibly low, the book surprises you by exceeding them. It's kind of a clever trick, although I suspect not a particularly effective one.

I won't be reading any more of the series, but I mostly enjoyed this one while I was reading it. It's got about the depth of a well-written video game (Shadowrun Hong Kong, for example) and it takes the protagonist an annoyingly long time to get a handle on her new life, but it's competently written and after a slow start it moves at a decent pace. It's short, it's moderately entertaining. Yeah, it's an OK book.

Between the cover and the title, I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. Was it going to be porn with just a hint of a story to hold it together? Demons exacting revenge? Silly shenanigans?

It turned out to be all of the above, and none of the above at the same time.

The story is about Beth, a devoted wife and mother who has always done the right thing, and always put herself second. What does she get for all her sacrifices? Divorced by her cheating husband, thrown out of her home, broke, and nowhere to go. With the last of her money, she decides to get drunk and throw herself in front of a bus. That's when she meets a recruiter, and things get really weird.

Beth wants revenge, but she has a lot of issues to deal with first. A lot of issues. Her team, Pog, Jee, and Amanda, put up with a lot from her. The book could have benefited from a couple fewer scenes of Beth moping around.

With that said, the writing is lively, at some points earnest, moves fairly quickly, and has a satisfying ending.

And there's porn. Not as much as I thought there would be, but a couple of scenes, and a lot more implied. Overall, a fun read.

This is a great story!! The author has quite an imagination and the characters are out of this world!! It has some humor and a little bit of sexy scenes, I was actually quite surprised there wasn't more of both! It's not light reading as I thought it would be, it follows Beth recently divorced, depressed, destitute thanks to her low life ex-husband. We meet her recruiter D** not supposed to say her name lol, plying her with drinks and telling her a bit about the job and life she could have. Beth wakes up with a hangover when the team come and get her to bring her to The Lair which will be her new home. Beth has a hard time with her new life and struggles throughout the book but finally at the end the light finally comes on and she sees through all the bs of her old life and embraces her new one. The author is quite brilliant creating her world of hinky Chicago and her characters are just that characters. I look forward to reading more about these funny, light hearted, broken and serious demon sluts. It's a great start and I'm loving it!!!

Glad this is over! This book was so frickin' ridiculous! I almost DNF {a couple of times) but I just had to see if revenge was ever going to happen!! I thought the blurb sounded really promising. Beth Saunders - In the beginning I sympathize with her, what she was going through. Goodness, the way the ex-husband and her children treated her! Smh! But DAMN after a while she got on my frickin' nerves! There where times I wanted to jump in my kindle and slap her! "Damn, woman, have some frickin' backbone!" But it just seem like she just complained and complained. {Oh, woe is me,. bullshit!} Then how the "3" sex demons had to keep explaining to her non-stop about what a succubus does. *pulling my hair out*

Sorry, If I was one of those sex demons, i would have sent her ass back to hell. Don't got time for drama. Just saying!

Might check out the other characters. I did enjoy them. Beth, absolutely NOT!

I read Amanda first and looked at the listing for the other books and saw that this one was free. I really enjoyed Amanda and this was a good book but if I'd started with this one then I probably wouldn't have gone on. It's well written and the characters are well drawn and lots of fun, but I don't like Beth. I could sympathize with her but not empathize with her. It's not that she's unrealistically naive, but she'd be too slow and bland of a person for me to ever really care about in real life. The book doesn't pretend that she's not annoying in that sense and, thankfully, half the chapters were from Pog's perspective, which I enjoyed a lot. If I didn't like the focal character as much, I really liked the supporting cast in this: they were as good as in Amanda. I suspect that I'll like the later books more, but I'm gong to keep them in reserve for when I feel the need for something fun that's a sure-thing to read.

Not Kindle Unlimited, interesting premise but some of the jokes or remarks or whatever start to wear thin after a while. Checked the page count and said this one was about 350 I think, but the others are more like 250, and at 99 cents per book and some priced at 4.99 and it basically being a series or more actually serialized that is going to add up high and fast for something like the 8 or 10 books already planned out to be released, with more probably due out. Not even sure at 99 cents if would get them all, that's $10 plus tax with the $4.99 being $5 and tax PER book and I rarely spend that even on my favorite type books would be talking $50 and just can't see doing that. Already paid out 6 months of ku plus have a little on amazon gc funds but can't figure out a way for buying these novelette/shorter stories at the highter price would make sense with the other/ku etc.

"Heav'n has no rage like love to hatred turn'd/ Nor Hell a fury, like a woman scorn'd" describes Beth. Her rage and fury at a sudden divorce after 28 years, and betrayal by her children, are channeled into revenge by her Team of succubi. The Team also helps her find her inner demon by helping her shed the persona imposed on her by society, the expectations of others, and her own sense of what she "should" do. This was an enjoyable fantasy, well written, balancing the pathos of youth lost and betrayed, with the perks of becoming a demon. Lots of clever dialog and interesting situations, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it is not suitable for prudes or those devoutly religious. I liked it so much, I got the Omnibus edition.

This book was well-written and entertaining. So why did I give it only three stars? Well, first, I'm pretty tough on books (see my history of ratings). Secondly, I had trouble relating to the character. She's an empty nester who just found out that her rich husband has been cheating on her for years. I don't think this is on the writer, but on me. As a thirty-something without kids (and who is definitely not rich), I just couldn't relate to the problems she was freaking out about. Add to that an obsession with designer clothes, handbags, and being young, thin, and beautiful, and the main character just wasn't for me. Even with all that, I enjoyed reading the book overall.

This is the first book I have read by Jennifer Stevenson and I have to say I am very impressed. This has humor, drama, suspense, a little mystery, and some hot scenes. There were times I was laughing my behind off. But, other times it was serious that shows how well thought out this book is. Beth tends to annoy me at times because of how down she thinks at times. She loosens up a little more towards the end so it makes her more enjoyable. The book is extremely well written and has a fantastic flow to the story. This is definitely worth reading.

Good introduction to a fun series. The bad guy was so OTT it got ridiculous, but I got pretty invested in the girls' lives by the end, and was surprised by how much substance there was to them. Yeah, they were living a very materialistic dream, but the sex and money and endless food were sort of background. The series poses the question: If all the obvious needs are taken care of, what is REALLY going on in your life? It's a bit popcorn and a quick read, but I liked it. And yeah, get that asshole, Beth!!

Interesting perspective about a good person just getting dealt a really crap hand in the game of life but she is offered an opportunity at a second chance with an actual clean slate if said person was willing to work for Hell. I like the unique way the character Beth has to learn more about her cheating husband and how to mend herself into her new life with the support of her newly found co-workers.

I'm still sort of baffled that I bought this book, never mind read it, but it was fun and interesting, if a trifle heavy-handed in its management of body image and sexual mores. (I mean, I agree with the points about the latter; unsure about the former.) I get why this would be the leading book in a series because of the way it introduces the reader to the world. And it's got a tasty revenge bit.

Most importantly, the author actually gets Chicago right, and I'll give points for that.

Not your average demon porn story :D

I really enjoyed this story, but occasionally a character (usually Beth) became a little TOO annoying, which was frustrating. If not for that, I would have given it 5 stars. All in all I was highly entertained. I look forward to more by this author

Semi-engaging. I expected this to be comedic but there isn’t much hardy har har to be found. A lot of POV changes between the 4 gals. I actually got confused in chapter 2 when Beth wasn’t the main focus. My main issue is Beth spends WAY too much time whining and not enough time embracing her new existence. Not sure I enjoyed this enough to continue the series.

An excellent story with mystery, action, and lots of humor. Beth has been dumped by her now ex-husband and her life isn’t going well. Enter Delilah with a proposition for Beth. Acceptance and then you add in three roommates and Reg. Stir well and let the fun begin as Beth learns her new live and seeks revenge on her ex. I enjoyed and and recommend the book as you will enjoy it as well!

Liked it so much I bought the omnibus!

Interesting concept. The focus of this story is Beth. Newly divorced, jobless, penniless and friendless. Not even her adult kids care about her! She is offered a job as a succubus and takes it. She has a lot to learn and her co-workers take care of the lessons. This touches on some serious issues with a good sense of humor.

Not What I Expected in a Great Way

A friend recommended this book, and it turned out they were right. The premise and the story take a lot of twists and turns that make it great to read. The writing is excellent, and the character development superb. Great read!
