I am an unapologetic romance lover. I read it. I write it. Enough said. Well..I also have a warrior way "Never give up on my dreams." I spend a copious amount of time drooling over Rick Grimes from Walking Dead, watching Japanese anime and playing video games with my love, Dusean.

Another solid HR by Stacy Reid that I enjoyed. Typically, her historicals take place in England, but in this book, she moves out to the intimidating American West in its early settlement days.

Sheridan is the neglected daughter of a titled gentleman in England; her father remarried when she was a young girl, and she was subsequently shipped off to boarding schools by her stepmother who did not care to have her underfoot. When she was given the chance to leave her lonely life at the young age of 18 when a charismatic man from Wyoming offered her everything she dreamed of, she jumped on it. She always wanted her own home where she felt she belonged, and the ranch her new husband purchased with her dowry gave her what she had long missed. Sheridan soon learned that her husband didn't really want HER; he wanted her substantial dowry and the subsequent annuities bestowed on her by her wealthy father, so he shuts her completely out of his life. Though she loved her new home and was involved in the management of the business and lands, Sheridan longed for the intimacy she has never known: the love of a good man.

Elijah Kincaid does not consider himself to be a good man --- at least not anymore. After losing his wife and child under mysterious but tragic circumstances (which are disclosed about halfway through the book), he swore that if he ever did marry again (emphasis on the IF), it would be to a hardy woman who could handle the uncertainty and trying times that are the only constant when it comes to living in the wild west. When he happens upon the ranch where he is part owner, he encounters a beautiful but delicate woman that he finds he cannot resist: Sheridan. They spend a few weeks of bliss together until Elijah finds out that she is someone else's woman: his partner. He felt betrayed and lied to, and in some ways relieved, as Sheridan who is a gentile and petite English lady in no way matches his new requirements if he were to take a wife. Without giving her a chance to explain, Elijah withdraws to his reclusive mountain home and is gone for over a year. When Sheridan's husband meets with an untimely death that at first glance seems accidental, a very powerful and cruel man moves in to claim her --- specifically, her wealth, to use for his own purposes. She knows there is only one man she can turn to in order to save her beloved home as well as rid her of the evil intentions by the man obsessed with possessing her, but will Elijah forgive Sheridan for her deception? If he does, can he possibly trust his heart to a woman who might break it simply by not being able to survive the harsh life of the American West?

What I liked:
--- Steamy goodness!
--- Excellent character development
--- Interesting plot with some twists and turns to keep it interesting

What I didn't like as much:
--- Unnecessary angst! I know some people like it angsty; I am not one of them --- had Elijah just listened and Sheridan MADE him listen, a lot of the back and forth drama could have been eliminated without detracting from the story line --- too drawn out; also, it was pretty hypocritical as he hid some significant info from her as well
--- Joshua (one of Elijah's brothers) is definitely an anti-hero; while I am sure there is more to the pieces of his story discussed in this book (setting up the next book in the series focused on Kincaid #2), the background we are given gave me the ickies and does not have me wanting to dive into the next book right away (I will read it, but I need some "cleanse the palate" time)

Overall, another really good historical romance from an author who consistently delivers a great plot with strong characters and steamy goodness early and often :)

Plot --- 4/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 3/5
Steam Level* --- 4/5
Language --- not egregious
Violence --- nothing graphic
POV --- 3rd

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild; 2/5 - sensual but nothing descriptive; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere; 4/5 - yes please! ; 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

Received ARC in return for an honest review, naughtiness 4*

This is the first of I am positive will be of many books written by Stacy that Il be reading and reviewing because I think this book is a brilliant read, I would say definitely more historical western than romance but definitely has a hero and heroine which the book is centred.

I never give spoilers but I will say this, this book is at times elating, at times heartbreaking and joyful, its action packed as well as fluffy in parts, by no means for the faint of heart due to their journey but the ending is very well earned, those who love western action romance will most definitely enjoy this.

Thank you so much Lady Stacy for writing it and I'm honoured to have read it the first of many 💖

Book Review For: Taming Elijah by Stacy Reid 'Taming Elijah" by Stacy Reid is book One in the new series called "The Kincaids". This is the story of Sheridan Wentworth and Elijah Kincaid. This book opens to drama that finds Sheridan being confronted by Mr. Jericho Sullivan who is an evil man who thinks he is the King of the area. Sullivan wants Sheridan and her money and he will stop at nothing to get it. So he threatens Beth and her son if Sheridan doesn't go along with him. Beth is Sheridan's sister inlaw and best friend. Sheridan had been married to Beth's brother but he was killed and it is just them. Sullivan says that he will be back the next day with the Preacher to marry them. Sheridan knows there is only one person that can help her...Elijah. Elijah and Sheridan had a brief affair before Elijah found out that Sheridan was married. So he walked away from her. Sheridan loves Elijah and didn't really mean to deceive him. But will Elijah help her now when she needs him so much? I will be honest Elijah had a chip on his shoulder and did treat Sheridan somewhat cold but he was protecting his heart. Elijah had lost if first wife and son to a tragedy that took their lives. So Elijah did push Sheridan away but nothing can stop love! I have read every book I think that Ms. Reid has wrote and her books just keep getting better. When you start to read one make sure you have plenty of time because you won't be wanting to put it down. I know I have never been able to yet! https://www.amazon.com/gp/profile/A2H... http://sissymaereads.blogspot.com/ https://romancebookreviewforyou.wordp... https://www.tumblr.com/blog/romancebo...

A heroine who begged, and I mean begged the hero to love/save/marry her, and a hero who was willing f*ck her (his words) and that's it. He keeps telling her to leave. Eventually he decides to help her. He still tells her to leave. But nothing else until 95%, and the heroine never stopped begging.

Heat 4 sizzling 🔥

Sheridan Wentworth has been unwanted since the time her mother passed away - a lonely child in the way of her fathers new wife and family, she was sent to boarding school and from there her first season, where she was betrothed to a man who took her to the wilds of America. Not wanted by her husband a marriage in name only Sheridan yearned for a family, her husband coveted her fortune not her.... his tastes were for men only. When she meets Elijah Kincaid their attraction was all consuming. Betrayal tore them apart and everything that Sheridan wanted slipped away. A widow with a vast fortune have men harassing her for her fortune and body, Sheridan has no choice but to ask the man she has loved for his help but will he be willing to help her, will he forgive her?

I loved loved this new series by Stacy Reid it will keep you mesmerized, and glued to every single sentence, and you'll be holding your breath through out the story so take a breath in the beginning although some scenes will leave you panting, and enjoy the ride! The complexity in Elijah and his anguish will have your heart bleeding for him his pain is an all consuming part of him, but he's so darn sexy in a wild rugged way you can't help but fall in love with him! Sheridan oh man I love her she's feisty fearless and she rocked Elijah's world chip by chip she brought him down, even though he truly tried to keep her at arms length,he tried and was cruel about it, she killed him with her love!
Stacy Reid delivered the goods with her new series it has everything in one sweet package, a roller coaster ride of emotions, action packed with nasty villains and a swoon worthy hero that will leave you breathless and wanting more! Well written and loved the secondary characters. This was by far my favourite Stacy Reid book and I adore all her books. Phenomenal! Epic! Awesome! Unputdownable! You get the picture 😍
One heart stopping exciting story that has a dashing hero a headstrong honourable loyal heroine who will fight for those she loves. Loved how he comes undone for her. Yes yes this was a sensational read that I highly recommend!

Although I enjoyed this story, I did feel like shaking Elijah at times. I can understand to a certain extent where he fears stemmed from but surely he realised not all women were the same. Sheridan was certainly persistent and knew what she wanted. I did feel sorry for her due to her early life, her marriage and Elijah’s stubbornness. It takes a number of dangerous events and some strong words before Elijah can come to terms with how he feels. This was an entertaining read.

It has been three years since Sheridan Wentworth married Thomas Galloway & left London’s polite society for the wild, savage west. She’s only been a widow for three months but already is harassed by unwanted suitors desiring both her body and her fortune. Sheridan turns to Elijah Kincaid for his protection, except he is determined to run from her perceived fragility, instead of toward her willing arms.
Wild west stories aren’t my favourite genre but I love the authors other books & I must say I’m converted. I couldn’t put it down & read it in an afternoon, albeit a long afternoon! The story flowed so well & I was engrossed, at times my heart was in my mouth & the pages flew by. The characters were well defined, I liked both Elijah & Sheridan even if I wanted to slap Elijah at times for not realising what he had. At last his eyes were opened even if it took a near disaster. I can’t wait for the other Kincaids to have their stories

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

This was an enjoyable western historical romance. The attraction between Elijah and Sheridan is very intense and hot. Their chemistry burns through the pages as the two struggle to deal with the pain & hurt caused by past mistakes and the underhanded threats and drama caused by an unwanted suitor. I really liked Sheridan. She was strong and feisty. I liked Elijah and I understood his anger, but often the things he said were too hurtful. I'm posting a completely honest, voluntary review after reading this book.

WHEN IT'S A STACY REID'S BOOK, I KNOW THAT I CAN TRUST HER TO MAKE IT A GOOD STORY.
THIS ONE WAS DEFINITELY ANGST-FUELED AND IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE PAGE TURNER.

MAY CONTAIN SPOILER [depending on what you think a spoiler contains]

I admit I was feeling very conflicted while I was reading this story. There are two kinds of angst for me - the one that leaves you feeling good and the other emotionally messed up. Halfway through the story I felt rather torn but I ventured on because I trust Ms.Reid to reward us a splendid ending at the end, and I'm glad not to be disappointed.

OUR HERO is the most stubborn man I have ever met. This story opened up without a definite or descriptive introduction to who the characters are, you will only learn about them throughout each chapter. It was a neat trick to make me (as a reader) devour the pages just to know WHO THE HELL IS ELIJAH.....and after that WHAT THE HECK is this simmering tension between the two...WHAT HAPPENED IN THEIR PAST!? When I discovered their back story, it was absolutely wickedly delicious, and I was like DAMN, Totally didn't expected that. I have read plenty of HR with similar plots like this but most authors certainly never placed their characters in such an adulterous scenario that it was simultaneously breathtaking and heart-wrenching. Adultery with other married man/woman/prostitutes? YEST. But not with each other...I felt absolutely sorry for the both of them, yet I was also rooting for them to freaking get together already! It's tiring to see how hard the heroine works to get into this grouchy bear's good side when I think she has already grovelled enough, and frankly if he's being dumb about it, then he doesn't deserve her. You have no idea how many time I wanted to yell at her to just LEAVE already just to test his honesty. Elijah's a very hard man...who strikes me as the kind who cannot accept change very easily, and men like him once their trust is broken...he can be an absolute pain in the ass. Do I like what he stands for? YES. Do I like the way he treats our Heroine? NOPE, not really. Although, if he didn't act like an ass...we wouldn't have gotten to experience the angst, so I guess my nitpicking is moot.

OUR HEROINE is a super tough, bad ass nut and I absolutely friggin' love her for her indomitable, fighting spirit. Like I mentioned, I wished Elijah had proven himself - to US that he deserves her. Okay, I'm not saying that Sheridan is without fault, they are both not perfect people riddled with scar of their past that is not pretty in the least. Both were played an unfair card by fate until they met each other and yet they can't be together ASAP. I'm not going to give away the main reason Elijah treats her as cold as Antarctica or acts like he resents the hell out of her, but let's just say it's partially well-deserved but the man can hold his grudge like a lil' bitch. When Sheridan is confronted by the town's bully, who has been hounding her and making his intent VERY CLEAR in the form of threats that HE WANTS TO MARRY HER (And possibly apply her for the town's gangbang session), she has no choice but to find Elijah for help, in order to protect herself, her home and Beth, her sister-in-law and her babe, Grayson. Sheridan certainly pulled out all the tricks even the oldest ones in her book, and Elijah was still barely responsive except their passion was so hot it could literally overcome the winter. After hearing Sherry's story, you will understand and sympathize with her, knowing why she wants and love Elijah with every fiber of her being. Born in the haute, glitzy ton of London but now far removed to the WEST, where life is tough on men, even tougher for women...I'd say her resoluteness and strength certainly makes her one amaze-balls heroine.

OVERALL this story isn't about rainbows and unicorns. It doesn't start out with a typical rakish hero trying to seduce a virginal heroine or an austere Duke falling in love with a wild child. These characters are scarred from within, each just trying to find their own slice of happiness and a place to belong. Reflecting upon it now, the angst may have made me quite mad but along the way, I just accepted it as it was and wished that E & S were just able to reconcile based on whatever sort of compromise they can give each other. I don't know if anyone feels the same but, this series is a little different from Ms.Reid's usual stories. So far, it's still enjoyable - different vibes and all, so my fingers are crossed that the next story would be mind-blowing. ;)

Stacy Reid Kincaid Series (Western)

4 stars (enjoy Jo Goodman Dennehy Sisters, Thorne Brothers, series, Pamela Clare MacKinnon Rangers series)

I usually don’t read Western historical romance novels as my first reading choice but I’m always open to a good series.

I love series around family members or a group of friends. I love the series even more when the author intertwines those characters throughout the book series (it’s a pet peeve when authors don’t do that because what’s the point of the series and introducing the characters if they are not going to interact throughout the series). You meet the family in all the books however not a lot interaction throughout.

The development and interest in main characters and secondary characters was enjoyable. I really did like the H/H for this book; very well paired as a couple.

I loved the writing around the women empowerment (it wasn’t over the top for me).

writing style is easy to follow, humorous moments, the give and take dialogue enjoyable.

the writing style has some modern wording/phrases use however that didn’t stop me from enjoying the book.

Romantic/sexual content (kissing, oral, love making scenes) was throughout the book. Nothing over the top; again nicely intertwined in the story. There are a few detailed written scenes and several just mentioning the act. 3/5 hotness and steam.

would recommend this book and the series.

Westerns are generally not my cup of tea, but Stacy Reid's Taming Elijah has me rethinking everything I thought I knew about this genre! I absolutely loved reading about the main character Sheridan Wentworth and her journey from timid society lady to fierce woman of the wilds of Wyoming. Taming Elijah is a wonderful "second-chance" romance and the tension between Elijah and Sheridan leaps off the page. Reid always delivers sizzling heat levels and the romance between the two main characters was undeniable and so, SO hot. I also loved the adventure aspect to this story, and the twists of the plot kept me flipping pages to the very end. One thing Reid does so well is her emotional arcs, and I found Elijah's story and what he had to overcome on his journey to accepting Sheridan for who she is so compelling. I would highly recommend this great Western romance, and I can't wait for the next installment!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25/6.
🌶️🌶️🌶️/5.

I read this in one sitting. This is also my first western i believe.
It was different from what i'm used to read but i still love it. It's more gruesome and "primal" and i really liked that. I liked the second chance romance and also why Sheridan decided she needed Elijah and only he would do for what she needed. It was also time for Elijah to give her a second chance or at least forgive her for what she did.
Sheridan & Elijah were quite captivating to me. Elijah was set on helping Sheridan and then get out of her life but that wasn't part of her plan so what did she do? She decided to court him as a man would a lady. It was quite adorable seeing Elijah react to her bringing him flowers and such. Sheridan was a strong mind woman and she was determined to gain his heart. I loved these two together and i'm definitely intrigued to continue this series.

CW: sexual harassment & assault; grieve;

Undecided

Not normally a fan of the west. However I am a huge fan of Stacy Reid. Elijah was just to much of a jerk for me. I just kept screaming “He’s just not that into you!” At Sheridan. Seriously she deserves so much better. Elijah May have been hot and rugged, but she should have taken her fortune and found a non tortured man somewhere else. Because he treated her like crap for most of the book. That being said I did like their love story a little bit. And I’m totally invested in the series.

Book one in The Kincaids series. Full length can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone with each book about a Kincaid sibling. It takes place in 1868 in Wyoming Territory. The area is lawless and violent especially for women. Elijah still has nightmares about his wife and son who he lost to such violence. Sheridan’s inheritance and ranch make her a desirable target. Elijah’s reluctant but Sheridan is persistent and much stronger than he believes!

My first Stacy Reid western

I'm a huge fan of Stacy Reid Highlander and Recency books. Huge. So I was excited to try this Western series. During the first half, I was close to DNF. It is book one but I felt lost. I felt like there must have been a prequel or a previous book. I continued and I'm glad I did because I had become involved enough to care about the outcome. I will now read book two and hope it's my usual Stacy Reid five star read.

Westward

There is tension, sexual tension, in Sheridan and Elijah's relationship. It's as rough and tumble as the ranching country they reside in. Through Sheridan's strength, Elijah learns to live and love again. If you like trials and justice you will like this novel. I surely did.

I don’t usually like historical romances set in the American west. Yet as a recently minted fan of Ms. Reid I wondered if her talent as a writer could change my mind. While I can’t vouch for the genre as a whole, this was a great read! There was adventure, a bit of mystery and a whole lot of sexy. It’s good!

OK book

I kept going to the book title thinking I must have missed book 1, it took me two to three chapters to figure out the characters. The story was OK a lot of the story was hard to believe. I put the book away 2 times but I have to finish to see if it gets better. I did enjoy the end , predictable ending but do not know what happened or how the villain ended.

Inconsistent character

I did did not like Elijah's character. He comes across as inconsistent. One minute he is demanding Sheridan should leave, next stay, then no kisses, before he is kissing her continuously. He is pettily upset with her because Sheridan admits her love for him, whilst he says he cannot trust her.

Thought provoking!

It was hard to put it down when at night I was so sleepy I couldn't keep my eyes open! The first thing in the morning when I woke up I got a cup of coffee and started in reading.
I had to stop reading sometimes when my emotions were boiling because of what was happening in the story.
It was the best book I have read in quite awhile

I have been loosing interest in historical romances as they have become extremely predictable an repetitive. But this one was a real gem.
I loved the main characters, the plot was believable and kept me interested and it just made sense. I love it when books aren't a convoluted mess...
This was a great start to a series that I can't wait to read more of.

good start for Sheridan & Elijah

I love strong heroines and this story gave me just that. Sheridan was not afraid of hard work. She wasn’t afraid to fight for what belonged to her, and she was financially responsible. Elijah was stubborn and pig headed but eventually couldn’t resist her love.
I look forward to Beth and Joshua’s story next

For a guy who didn't want marriage, Elijah wasn't doing too bad for himself, but Sheridan got under his skin and like an itch, kept at him, until..... Nope, I'm not giving that away!
Just know that this is such an easy to read story with passion abounding and a great ending and I enjoyed it so much.
